Eli was a priest and a man of God. However, despite him having a good spirit about him, he failed in his duties as priest by not restraining his sons. God wants a personal relationship with you. God keeps calling, but men keep refusing. How many times has God called you and you have returned to your normal activity? The Lord called unto Samuel and he at first did not recognize it was the Lord. Eli instructed Samuel to answer the Lord and to later tell him all that the Lord had said. The message from the Lord was to inform Eli that he and his house were finished in the priesthood because he had not done what he should have in restraining his sons. Eli failed to discipline his sons as he should have. They held positions as priests and continued to serve; even though they were messed up. Sermon by: Pastor Charles McKinney
Hophni and Phinehas, the sons of Eli were priests of the Lord. Though they held this position, they did not walk worthy, but did evil in the sight of the Lord. Their father Eli did not restrain them as he should have. As a result, they caused men to despise the offering of the Lord. God eventually brought about their death.
