(00:23):
together.
We're on a mission from God,from darkness to light and from
wrong to strong.
Hello everyone and welcome tothe Wrong to Strong Two Minute
Devotional.
My name's Omar Calvillo.
Today I'm gonna be reading fromMatthew 11:2-3.
It says, When John who was inprison heard about the deeds of
(00:43):
the Messiah, he sent hisdisciples to ask him, are you
the one who is to come, orshould we expect someone else?"
Have you ever gone through aseason so difficult that you
began to question what you onceknew for sure about God?
That's exactly where John theBaptist finds himself in this
passage.
The same man who boldlyproclaimed, Behold the lamb of
(01:05):
God, who takes away the sin ofthe world.
Is now behind prison wallswrestling with doubt.
Even the strong can struggle.
John wasn't just any prophet.
Jesus himself said that Amongthose born women, there has not
risen anyone greater than Johnthe Baptist."(Matthew 11:11) Yet
here he is confused andquestioning Why?
(01:26):
Because prison changes things, trials, suffering, isolation.
These things have a way ofshaking us.
This reminds us that faithdoesn't always mean the absence
of doubt, but the courage tobring those doubts to Jesus.
Remember what you've seen andheard just chapters earlier,
John witnessed the heavens open.
(01:47):
He heard the voice of the fathersay,"This is my son and whom I
am well pleased."(Mattew 3:17)He saw the Holy Spirit descend
like a dove, but now he's in adark cold cell.
Those memories are fading.
Isn't that just like life?
When we're on the mountain,God's presence is so clear, but
in the valley, we start toforget.
(02:08):
That's why we must build ourfaith on the truth of God's
word, not just our feelings orsurroundings.
We must rehearse what God hasalready shown us.
Take your doubts to Jesus.
What does John do when he'sstruggling?
He sends his disciples straightto Jesus, and Jesus doesn't
rebuke him.
He doesn't say, how dare youquestion me.
(02:30):
Instead, Jesus replies withevidence.
"Go back and report to John whatyou hear and see.
The blind received sight, thelame walk.
Those who have leprosy arecleansed."(Matthew 11:4-5) Jesus
is saying, look at what'shappening.
I am who I said I am.
When we are in doubt, don't runfrom Jesus.
(02:51):
Run to him.
Ask your questions.
He can handle your honesty.
Jesus ends his message with apowerful encouragement.
Blessed is anyone who does notstumble on account of me."
(Matthew 11:6) in other words, don't give up when life doesn't
make sense.
Don't fall away when the answerdoesn't come quickly.
(03:13):
Blessed is the one who keepsbelieving, especially in the
dark maybe you're in your ownprison today.
Maybe it's a physical prison ormaybe it's emotional, financial,
or spiritual.
You've seen God move before, butnow things feel quiet.
Doubt has crept in.
If that's you, you're not alone.
Even John the Baptist walkedthat road.
(03:36):
But here's the good news.
Jesus didn't change just becauseJohn's circumstances did, and he
won't change on you either.
Let us pray.
Heavenly Father, strengthen ourfaith in the midst of trials.
Help us to remember what you'vedone in the past and hold on to
the truth of who you are.
Even when life gets hard.
(03:56):
Like John May we take our doubtsto you and find peace in your
presence.
In Jesus' name, amen.
My name is Omar Calvillo, and Iam wrong to strong.
