I det andra avsnittet är temat vad vi hade innan den personliga assistansen, nämligen institutioner. Vad är en institution? Hur fungerar mobila institutioner? Och vad är egentligen skillnaden mellan att leva institutionellt mot att leva självbestämt?
Pionjärerna berättar om överkörda intimitetsgränser, orimliga väntetider, makthierarkier och depression. Med mobila institutioner kunde man kanske överleva, men det var först med den personliga assistansen vi faktiskt fick leva.
