Awesome Dre, the first national hip-hop artist from Detroit, signed a record deal with Priority Records in the late 1980s. His album "You Can't Hold Me Back" was released in 1989, featuring LL. Cool J and Kool Moe Dee with machine guns aimed at their heads on the cover. Since the release of his album, he has had an enduring influence on Detroit hip hop worldwide.
