Speaker 1 (00:00):
And of course that's hit the Gold Coast in the
last couple of days. Really, so there is a problem. Now.
We had Chris on earlier talking about a rule change
in late August, so.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
You can go to the government website and have a
look at thoseial changes. And the rule change really is
just that if you have an illegal bike that's going
too fast it actually looks like a motorbike, then you
have to have it registered. All You've got to be licensed.

Speaker 1 (00:22):
In some cases. Down in the tweet, Chris also said
that bikes have been confiscated and crushed even so, I
don't know what level that's new south West. Yeah, so
this is the thing. I mean, we've got to work
out if the kids they know they're doing the wrong thing,
if they're not going to do the right thing, we
have to have something in place where we go well

(00:43):
to punishment to confiscate your bike or whatever whatever it is.
We've got Dennis on the line, what would you do
with the e bike situation.

Speaker 3 (00:50):
Well, I'm a motorbike rider, have been since I was
a child, and would never ride on the roads except
for when I was registered and licensed. Basically, I've just
about run over a few by mistake. I've ended up
having to go to the police a couple of times.
They told me I have to make So basically, what
you're to do is you got to go around the
streets and get a petition written up and then they

(01:11):
may act on it. The other thing is, as they say,
they can't chase them. The other thing is that they
don't have the resources to bother with them. I almost
went outside of police station, went into the police station
and started talking to them. As I was down in
there two road pass, I says, at eight o'clock in
the morning, every morning they're going to school and you're
watching them, and they says, well, we can't do anything. Basically,

(01:32):
while I was talking to them in one road pass
and he goes, oh, at least they've got a helmet on.
So what I did is I went to the school.
It was a trade school, so they were like college
kids that join up and they go to a trade
school on the Gold Coast. I went into there and
made a complaint principal. Now, the principle was so happy
because he says, all we need is someone to come
in and act on it, because then they can act

(01:55):
on it. But until someone acts on it, they can't
act on it or make a formal complaint. Because I'm
made a formal complaint. They acted on it and those
kids were reprimanded because the law states once those kids
go into that school, they are liable for their health
and safety to get them home. So if these kids
are legally riding these motorbikes on the streets, it is
up to the schools to enforce the law to stop them.

Speaker 2 (02:17):
Okay, that's really good information, Dennis. So go to the school.
You know, if they were in a school uniform, you
know which school it is. What about you, Marie, what
do you think?

Speaker 4 (02:28):
I don't think they should be having them crushed in that.
I think parents pay a lot for these bikes, and
the reckless children that are doing bad things on them
and honing on them are recognid for the adults and
the other tagers getting through writing them and that are
with rectul and are good on them.

Speaker 1 (02:47):
Well, I was suggesting that for people that are getting
caught by using them in the wrong way. If you're
on one of those bikes damaging cars and trying rocks
at cars and everything, what you think they should have
a bike.

Speaker 4 (03:00):
Oh, that's a whole different, different matter. I'm just talking
about the ones that are just being respectful on them
and hooning around. But there's a big, big majority of
adults and you dad actually enjoy riding them.

Speaker 1 (03:12):
Yeah, I think leave them, leave them alone the right thing.

Speaker 2 (03:15):
We're not saying we're just going to walk up to
someone and say it's your bike because you've got one.
We're saying, if you're caught doing something wrong because they're
a minor, the police can't do anything, So why not
say your bike is compounded or compile whatever it is until.

Speaker 4 (03:30):
You go to the right and maybe maybe a fine
that Since when does someone have the right to go
and crush someone's property. That's gone a little bit too far.

Speaker 2 (03:38):
I think it hurts someone's property that they're throwing rocks
at people's cars.

Speaker 4 (03:43):
Well, then the parents need to step in there and
take over.

Speaker 1 (03:46):
It's not working, that's what's this is not happening.

Speaker 2 (03:50):
Thank you for calling, Darlphing.
