Speaker 1 (00:00):
The managers out there.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Good morning, Bindy, good morning. How are you doing.

Speaker 3 (00:07):
Oh, we are so great. We are just thrilled that
you're on our show. We had Robert on the other
day because if I'mzelle, get me out of here. So
I feel like it's the Erwins year we've ever had.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
Oh, We're just we're just slowly going to infiltrate your life.
I'm sorry about that enough, it could be worse.

Speaker 3 (00:25):
We are such big fans. But congratulations, congratulations, you brought
on a new book. And and look, I feel like
you should just write books all the time about everything
that happens at Australia Zoo. Is this the start of
big things to come?

Speaker 2 (00:40):
Oh? Thank you? I loved I loved this experience so much,
and I didn't know how difficult it would be to
try to condense our whole world of conservation and life
at Australia Zoo into one children's book. It was a
it was a tricky journey, and I was really excited
about it. But no, I'm so happy that this book

(01:02):
has come together, and I hope it inspires the next
generation of wildlife warriors. And who knows, maybe another book
in the future. That would be fun. But we had
such a good time working on this one. I think
Grace had the most involvement, our beautiful daughter. She decided
every single animal that would be included in the book,
so really I can't take any credit. It was just

(01:24):
all her. She was telling me, you know, we have
to have Forest the giraffe, and Igloo the tortoise, and
don't miss Brandy the koala. And she's you know, she's
almost four now, so kids that age have have very
strong opinions, and thankfully we didn't miss a single animal
that every parent.

Speaker 1 (01:44):
Nodded and went with the adventures within the book like
it's the world is your oyster? Really, because you can
keep on sort of coming up with different adventures similarly
to what your dad did in person on his adventure
with different animals all around the world. Maybe the books,
if you do more, will have the same sort of impact.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
I hope, So I would really love that. I mean, Dad,
he was just a living hurricane. He was the human
a quote a little a hurricane, and he never stopped
moving and he was just so passionate about everything that
he did. And it is the honor of a lifetime
to get to continue on with his work and his

(02:29):
mission and hopefully make him proud and these these moments
in life, you know, like bringing out this book, it
means so much because you know, it's kind of remembering
Dad and remembering his legacy. He's actually part of the
book as well. We included some really special family photos
in the book and it's just really really nice. So

(02:52):
I hope I'm able to do more things like this
to be able to honor him as well. Well.

Speaker 3 (02:57):
And just you touched on all the different characters from
around the Zoo and Grace wanting them to be all included.
I mean, there is a book in every character, so
we're just telling you you need to do this, you
need to get this.

Speaker 2 (03:11):
I think we could definitely do a lot of stories.
We live a wild life put in the pun, but yes,
we really do. And it's so much fun because every
day is different, so I think it makes it really exciting.
And as Grace grows up, she's just more and more
involved in our world, so it's really fun telling our
story through her eyes because she is just in amongst

(03:34):
all of it. And it's a lot of fun. It's
a lot I mean, it's busy, but it's also really wonderful.

Speaker 3 (03:41):
How do you feel? I mean, we saw the Today
Show the other day you're promoting the book as well,
and you were talking about Grace and you were there
with your husband and you were saying that she's having
a very similar upbringing to you, which is wonderful because
you had such a great upbringing. Can I also how
do you feel sometimes about the whole world? I guess
knowing about you guys, how do you keep some privacy
for yourselves?

Speaker 2 (04:01):
Oh? Well, thank you. That's a really good question. I
think that we all need to keep some moments in
life just for us. I mean all of us do.
It's so easy, you know, in this day and age
where we all have a phone, we all have social media,
and it can be quite overwhelming and we're a little

(04:22):
too connected at time. So for us and our family,
we really try to take the end wherever we can
just to have time for us and usually that you know,
catching crocs in the middle of far North Queensland with
absolutely no phone service, or spending time out on the
Brigalow Belt and doing research with our beautiful, beautiful wildlife

(04:44):
out there on our conservation properties. And it's really important
to have times where you do disconnect and you do
spend time with the people that you love and just
have you time, because yeah, I think for us, we're
in this wonderful a new opportunity where our lives and
our conservation work it's intrinsically linked. You know, we live

(05:09):
work that we do. It's not just our job. It's
a part of who we are, and so it is
very easy for it to just you know, to share
our journey and our story. It's very special. But at
the same time, you're right, we all have to take
time just for us and we're really we're really lucky
in the fact that we do have so many different
projects that take us to very remote locations where you

(05:32):
literally can't connect with the world. And I love that.
We're actually planning Cana and I are taking Grace on
a four week road trip coming up, which is really
exciting throughout Australia and we're going to be completely not
connected and just spending time with her, and yeah, family
time is so important.

Speaker 1 (05:51):
Now, how's the zoo going. It's just such a part
of our landscape now, Like everyone in Australia that visits
this neck of the woods always goes up to visit.
A lot of locals go up repetitively, how's it going.

Speaker 2 (06:04):
Thank you? We were doing really good. It's been busy times.
We've actually just renovated our entire crocaceum, which is really exciting.
So it's it's it's taken. I've learned a lot. It's
so funny how you think you're working with wildlife, but
then it's also construction and marketing and horticulture and there's

(06:24):
so much that goes into Australia Zoo which is really special.
So learning how to renovate a crocaceum has been very exciting.
We also have our Crocodile Hunter Lodge which we've just
opened up some new cabins, and our Warrior Restaurant is
open for everybody to come and visit. So it's been
it's been really special. But I mean every day, every

(06:46):
day is exciting at the zoo. No two days are
the same. And we have to get you guys to
come and visit. You have to come to see us
and come, you know, cuddle some koalas and feed some rhinos.
We should across just from the zoo, all of us
together after zoo.

Speaker 3 (07:03):
We would love that. We'd love that benefit. My only
problem is with coming to the zoo, and we've done
this before. I've got two kids, once thirteen and one
six because like you, are having amitriosis, so I had
a lot of struggles having them. But every time I've
taken each of the children, they walk in and expect
to see you there at the door, like they honestly
think that one of the urwins is they're gonna show

(07:25):
them around. And so I have to go on days
when I know you guys are going to be there.
Is there a way for families to know that.

Speaker 2 (07:33):
Yes, absolutely so well, firstly, thank you. I wish I
wish I could be at the door. It's such a
I feel so torn all the time because you know,
we run Australia Zoo, so we are in charge of
all the things and it's very busy, which is great
but also hectic. And so we do croc shows throughout

(07:56):
most school holidays, so we'll be feeding crocs in there.
So you go to Australia Zoo dot com you can
check on the dates of school holidays. But yes, I
think our next croc shows of the family is coming
up in April, all right, so we'll be doing the
Easter holidays. Yes, let me know when you're coming and
we'll make sure.

Speaker 1 (08:14):
The irony is that EJ asked about you getting some
privacy and in the next sentence asked when you're going.

Speaker 3 (08:19):
To be there.

Speaker 2 (08:22):
I love it. It's okay, I got it.

Speaker 3 (08:25):
I feel every family feels that though when they go
to the zoo. It's such an exciting day to watch
their faces when they actually see it and they love
them so much.

Speaker 1 (08:33):
You need your own exhibit.

Speaker 2 (08:38):
Oh my gosh, let's sign rob it up to that.

Speaker 1 (08:43):
Beautiful. Yeah exactly.

Speaker 3 (08:45):
I like you, how are you coping with Roberts and
you found like, let's just say heart throb status and.

Speaker 2 (08:53):
All the ladies. I would see how you were to that.

Speaker 3 (08:58):
Like he transcends iterations right now, let's just say that.

Speaker 2 (09:03):
Oh my gosh, Oh my gosh, it is. It is
so funny. It's hard because I'm his like, what what
is happening? I actually I don't drive with him anywhere anymore, so,
you know, like we never write together because he'll stop
somewhere and these lovely, gorgeous girls come from just like

(09:27):
out of nowhere. It's like they just appear and they
converge on him, and I'm like, I'm not going anywhere
with you anymore, buddy.

Speaker 1 (09:35):
Like.

Speaker 2 (09:37):
This is scary. No, but he he is. He is
doing so well.

Speaker 1 (09:43):
I am.

Speaker 2 (09:43):
I am so proud of my brother. I love you.
Know what I love most about Robert is he is
the most incredible conservationist and he has found so many
different ways to bring the message of conservation to avenues
that I never expected, you know what I mean. He's
just he's opened up the world. He did a he
did a runway like fashion thing the other day and

(10:07):
I was like, this is so cool because you are
bringing the message of conservation to the run rate and
that is almosome. So he finds all these new and
different avenues and he takes that message and makes it
his own, and yeah, it is just it's so awesome
and also pretty funny. It's just this stuff.

Speaker 3 (10:27):
Always be your little brother. Yeah, you guys are doing
wonderful things for the world, and we are so proud
of you. Australia is so proud of you. We did
something on here the other day about if we had
our own royalty, who would they be? And your names
came up over and over again as the King and
Queen prince and princesses. So I hope you know and
feel that love.

Speaker 2 (10:48):
Thank you well, it is. It is just so greatly
appreciated the day. I'm so I'm so grateful and just
everything that we do is hopefully to share a little
love and light and positivity on the planet and inspire
more people to get involved and make a difference for conservation.
So we are incredibly grateful for the opportunity and I'm

(11:10):
so glad I get to talk to you guys today
and I genuinely mean it. Come to Australia Zoo. We'll
do some awesome things together and it'll be really fun.
But truly thank you, Thank you for your time, and
I hope everybody enjoys the book.

Speaker 3 (11:22):
We will. So it's Calleding You Are a Wildlife Warrior,
Saving Animals and the Planets. It's for sale at the Zoo,
but also I believe it's going to be you can
purchase online as well. So go and support this new
book and know that you're doing and making a difference.

Speaker 2 (11:39):
Thank you, Bindy, Thank you so much for your time,
and have a lovely day you too, Lindas, Bye bye.
