Speaker 1 (00:00):
Grandwater Music Festival is coming up this weekend and someone
that we like very much who's playing there, is going
to be on the phone right now. It's Casey Barnes.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
Good morning, Hello, Hello, Oh my god.
Speaker 3 (00:12):
So you're playing at home? So what are you going
to do in the morning? Which cafe are going to
go to? Going to drop the kids to school?
Speaker 2 (00:18):
What's the story?
Speaker 1 (00:19):
I'll tell you what He'll do. Get up in the
morning and you'll go for a run at Curumbin and
you'll go on the where the all the sort of
decking is all the boards and that through the sort
of swampy sort of area and then come out through
the other side. And then he'll make sure he gets
to run along the beach to where there's a lot
of people so that he gets that feeling where people
might say, hey, is that Casey Barnes running on the beach,
(00:39):
So he gets a little bit of dopamine and vibe
from that, and then he gets home and does a
little bit of waits and some push ups and stuff,
and then he's ready to go take the kids to school.
Speaker 2 (00:48):
Actually, most of that's probably going to be pretty spot on. Actually,
it's funny. It will happen. It's not just me, mate,
there's another fellow Gold coach has a very similar routine.
I've run into Amy Shark that many times on that
exact same route, So maybe we're onto something I don't know. Well,
we reminisce about all the old times before everything happened,
(01:12):
and we used to do, you know, the little covers
gigs back at the Titans. Like this is like going
back newly twenty years ago when she was Amy Cushway
was that her name.
Speaker 1 (01:23):
I remember it because I introduced her at those the
power stage at the Titans. I was the ground the
ground announcer at the time.
Speaker 2 (01:30):
That's it. We were doing those gigs back back back
in the day. But it's actually good to see her.
We always have a bit of a chat.
Speaker 3 (01:36):
I know we should be talking about groundwater, but I've
just had an idea. I mean, Teddy Swims was okay
at the NRL Ground Final. If the Titans ever get
to a Grand Final, it's got to be you and
Amy on the stage. We need Gold Coast representing.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
You're right, it'd be nice to see more Ossiaks, you know,
getting that opportunity on a big platform like the NRL
or the AFL Grand Final. It doesn't get any any
bigger than and you know, yeah, every year that I
watch it, I'm always like, one day, you know, put
that on the bucket with it to be it would
be pretty special. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:08):
Would you ever off the back of Amy, would you
ever do the voice or one of those shows as
a judge.
Speaker 2 (02:13):
Yeah, I'd love to do something like that, especially I
guess that's where it all sort of started for me
back in two thousand and nine, So that'd be a
full circle moment.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
Yeah, you couldn't take a catch, mate, come on.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
Yeah, you put me to shame. Kick in the footy?
Speaker 3 (02:32):
Yeah, you got to share just quickly did the case?
People don't know that you helped Casey.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
Yeah, he wanted a few mates to kick the football
in the video for his video clip for Idle for Idle,
you know cases behind the scenes, and then we got
competitive and I just torched him.
Speaker 2 (02:49):
Now listen up gold Cases. You need to know I'm
a pretty competitive guy. But Paul Gaal puts me to shame.
He was he was wanting to take the big screen
so and did and literally did put me to shame.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
He's me thinking I could go all right, the director
came over and said, O, case can we just do
one where Casey takes a market in your spot a little?
Speaker 2 (03:16):
Did they know you?
Speaker 1 (03:18):
Well, look, we've Groundwater.
Speaker 3 (03:19):
We've not talked about, but everyone knows you and they
know you're going to be on stage on Friday night
and everyone's got to get there and support you because
it's so good.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
You're not supposed to have favorites, but it is. It's
it's one of my favorite festivals to play, and you
know the fact that it's here on the Gold Coast
makes it even better and you get a hometown crowd
and even you know where the main stage is there
on Surf Parade. For me, it's it holds so many memories,
not just from playing at the festival, but it's the
(03:49):
same place that I met my wife and I was
doing like little covers gigs twenty plus years ago, and yeah,
it's it's just such a special festival. And we've got
a big show plan for Friday, and Michelle is actually
going to be joining us on stage two, so it's
gonna be it's gonna be great.
Speaker 1 (04:04):
Casey Varnes, thank you for the chat. Groundwater Country Music
Festival on Embroady all this weekend, have a great show
and we'll talk to you soon.
Speaker 2 (04:11):
Casey, thanks you guys.
