Speaker 1 (00:00):
So, Matt, good morning, Good morning.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
Well don't you have a great job at the moment
you're looking after all the superstars coming to your venues.

Speaker 1 (00:07):
Yeah, it's been an exciting week, you know, something that
we get to do a fair bit of. But having
Drake has been a pretty surreal experience for us.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
My friend who knows you literally said you've become his bff.

Speaker 3 (00:18):
While he was here, you were practically brothers. Is that true?

Speaker 1 (00:23):
Look, I don't think i'd call us brothers, but yeah,
we did spend a lot of time together over the
past week, and I was fortunate enough to spend yeah, yeah,
like I said, a lot of time with him and
his team and down on the Gold Coat stand up
in Brisbane. So yeah, it was it was a great experience.
And he's a really nice guy, so yeah, it was great.

Speaker 4 (00:43):
Do you have any insight on why he had to
leave his tour here in Australia?

Speaker 1 (00:49):
Unfortunately that I don't. I can't talk about, but yeah,
I know obviously he did jet out early yesterday and
it was something that had come up. So yeah, I
can't talk about it, but that's a person. Hopefully it'll
be back, hopefully be back soon.

Speaker 3 (01:05):
So Yeah, there's lots of chat online.

Speaker 2 (01:07):
His mum's got Kansas, so people fans are worried about
that and then scheduling conflicts and then staging conflicts.

Speaker 3 (01:13):
So I guess the truth will reveal itself eventually.

Speaker 1 (01:16):
I'm sure at all come out.

Speaker 2 (01:17):
Yes, and you obviously know it. But Matt, how does
it work in your world? Like who who calls you
and says we've got a superstar that wants to eat
at your venue?

Speaker 1 (01:30):
Yes, So typically it's something like we do host a
lot of international artists and things like that all the time,
and so it's usually a referral networks. So they reach
out to people they can trust. They know. Their team
are charged with looking at venues on Instagram talking to
relevant people. So I was connected to his team through
another mutual contact and then sort of met with them,

(01:52):
had a conversation, shared them the venues. You know, they
look at the food and everything we've got on offer,
and they were like, hey, we've seen this online. It
looks like a perfect fit for him. You know, we
know you guys and how you operate, and we think,
you know, this will be a very smooth experience. We
all caught up. They loved it. Then he kind of
gives the final yes or no, and after that, you know,
the ball gets rolling. And once the first night was

(02:13):
kind of out of the way, he loved it so much,
he's like, hey, let's just do you know, let's just
do this in Brisbane with these guys the whole time.

Speaker 3 (02:19):
Great.

Speaker 5 (02:20):
So that's a good nod to you guys.

Speaker 2 (02:22):
No, and it's such national exposure that he's eating your restaurants.

Speaker 1 (02:27):
Yeah, look, it's something that is amazing for us publicity wise.
It's obviously great that one of the best referrals you
can kind of get, or I guess one of the
best references you can get all reviews. So yeah, when
you have an international superstar the level of Drake that
eats your place two nights in a row, and you
know parties are two nights in a row, I'd like
to think he's giving it a five star review, maybe

(02:48):
a four point five, four point seven.

Speaker 5 (02:50):
Now, who else are you mixing with? Mate?

Speaker 4 (02:53):
Who else have you looked after in the past and
who are you looking forward to maybe hosting.

Speaker 1 (02:58):
I mean we've looked after everyone from Justin Bieb, Josh Hartnett.
You know, there's there's there's just the list is pretty endless.
Whenever there's people out here touring, we typically will have
a conversation with someone on their team and then sometimes
it becomes quite public. In a situation with Drake where
he's obviously rolling with a relatively large entourage that starts

(03:19):
to get out quite quickly. Sometimes it's people that will
come in and have a private dinner with just them
and three four people. So yeah, it depends on It
depends on situation as to whether or not how widely
the publicity gets out there. But yeah, looking forward to
hosting more people through. Obviously we've got Kylie out here
at the moment, and we've also got ice Cube and

(03:39):
other people out here, so there's there's always a situation
where we're talking with their team and so you never
know who's going to be rolling through the door.

Speaker 5 (03:45):
Well, all the actors are here as well.

Speaker 2 (03:48):
It's Jack Blacking Tooxley there, So what's what's the Harry
pronounced the myss? That is it not throw and not not?
How do you say the name of the restaurant?

Speaker 1 (03:57):
So they were wonder well I'm talking about is up
in brit Spurn, which we own, which is time of
stuff a club and tapes office, which is where he
spent his last two nights. But yeah, down the oxolete Anse,
which is a friend of ours that we helped connect
them with.

Speaker 2 (04:12):
See Nortey, that's how you say it, right, I wasn't
sure how to say it.

Speaker 5 (04:15):
They went there and they were very not okay.

Speaker 3 (04:21):
Next question for you, Matt. Do they pay?

Speaker 1 (04:23):
They do? I mean that's not always the case. In
some other situations, artists will request, obviously, but it's just
a small gathering. They might say, hey, look, we're happy
to you last us out on our socials or something
in exchange for free meals or whatever it is. But
in the case of Draking his team, they pay the
whole bill and they're extremely generous. They also tip, and
they tip very well.

Speaker 2 (04:44):
Right now, let's talk about when he was at Brizzy.
So one of my girlfriends got in the door and
she was saying that they were only letting women in
and they confiscated all the phones.

Speaker 3 (04:53):
Is that true, Matt?

Speaker 1 (04:55):
Look, it is true. So it's a situation where obviously
the press gets a hold of photos, there can be
things that are interpreted or misconstrued, and so they do
confiscate everyone's phones just so that him and the rest
of the team can relax without having people with their
phones out. And it's not always. It's not that they're
worried about negative things, to be totally honest with, guys

(05:15):
just largely keep to themselves and hang out. But it's
one of those things where they don't want to have
people with their phones out, with their lights, you know,
flash on the whole night. You know. They they wind
down after a show and relax and they're not looking
to turn it into another concert with.

Speaker 4 (05:31):
Only women sort of going in as the guests. That
would have been tough work for some of the blogs
that were already outside with the girls and then being
told that they're not allowed in, but we're still is
their girl still goes in.

Speaker 1 (05:42):
It's like, yeah, yeah, I can say I saw quite
I saw a few girls that were quite happily leaving
what I assumed to be their boyfriend outside to come
inside and hang out with breaking his team. So yeah,
that would be a tough situation for the boyfriend that's
sitting outside.

Speaker 5 (05:58):
I don't think any of those people will get married.

Speaker 1 (06:02):
I mean, it's a tough conversation the next day, isn't
it right. I mean, the girls are waking up with
probably a little bit of a hangover and they're rolling
over and the boyfriend's you know, staring at them, being like,
what happened last night? And yeah, I don't know. I
don't know how that one goes personally. I'm I'm happy
I'm single.

Speaker 2 (06:17):
Put it that way, okay, Matt, Well, I know you
probably can't answer. It'll be much like why did he
go home? But did he like any of the aussy ladies?
Were there any lucky ossy ladies.

Speaker 1 (06:27):
I'm not going to confirm or anything. Yeah, I can,
I know, I know that's what you guys want to know.
You know, there's yeah, there's vaculations. That's ripe, I think.
And it's warming up around that already. And I have
no doubt that some people will break confidentiality and talk
about it. But yeah, that's something that we have with
our artists that you know, they they accept confidentiality from

(06:47):
us and on things like that. That's not the type
of thing I want to I want to feed you.

Speaker 4 (06:51):
Listen, tap twice on the phone for yes, and once
on the phone.

Speaker 1 (06:55):
You just keep saying names and see if you can
work out whether my no comment changes.

Speaker 5 (06:59):
Yeah, no comment.

Speaker 3 (07:04):
Influencers.

Speaker 2 (07:05):
And obviously he kind of put himself into the feud,
the TikTok feud between Anna Paul and MICHAELA.

Speaker 3 (07:11):
How'd that come about? That he found out about it
and then was wearing the T shirt.

Speaker 1 (07:15):
Look, I think obviously he's pretty on top of what's
going on and what's culturally relevant. And I think that
being on the Gold Coast and staying down here for
a couple of days and then having the Gone stuff
in Brisbane, he knew it was something that was relevant.
I don't know what it's that he saw and then
he thought would be funny or what the situation was.
But I mean, he's got his singer on the pulse

(07:35):
for that kind of stuff, So I suspect that he
knew that that was something that would blow up and
go viral. And you know, he's the center of the
kinds of controversy. So I guess this is a feud
with Kendrick. It's like, well, let's let's weigh in on
someone else's feud.

Speaker 4 (07:49):
Yeah, do you stay in touch with him now that
he's out of country, like catch up every now and
again and say how you going?

Speaker 1 (07:56):
Oh, look, I mean he's a pretty busy guy. He's
not look to you know, being my pen pal or
anything like that. I'm sure, but why not. Yeah, I
mean I'm happy to chat any time. So yeah, you
can reach out and you can reach out and have
a chat. But yeah, look, some of the guys do. Certainly.
It's one of those things where it's like if you're
out in country and you know, if you're out there

(08:17):
in the States or Toronto or something like that, and
they're around, and obviously you try and reach out to
them and say, hey, what's going on, Hey, you want
to catch up, Let's have a dinner. But but yeah,
it looks it's tough with those guys. They have such
hardcore schedules and obviously everyone's looking to be their best friend,
and so typically we kind of let them do their
ranking and you know, let them kind of run those

(08:39):
types of relationships rather than being the annoying hanger on
like everyone.

Speaker 5 (08:43):
Well we'll catch up with you, Matte.

Speaker 1 (08:45):
Yeah, out, I appreciate that. Yeah, so we'll talk again.
That's nice. Well, we'll reach out a call anytime for
you guys want to chat.

Speaker 4 (08:53):
Famous last words when we were texting you all the time,
you're like, oh my god, just leave me alone.

Speaker 1 (08:59):
Every oity again.

Speaker 2 (09:01):
It's Chris Stapleton coming and hanging out easier on the weekend.
Toot one more thing.

Speaker 3 (09:07):
So you he's postponed, he hasn't canceled.

Speaker 2 (09:11):
Will he contact you when he comes back, and could
you let him know that they don't let signs into
Boondle and that they are really mean about letting signs in.

Speaker 1 (09:20):
So when he goes to it on the second.

Speaker 3 (09:23):
Night, ah, is that why we're saying.

Speaker 1 (09:25):
I don't know if you guys saw, but he paid
for he paid for a lot of different people's trips
and things on the on the sorry on the Tuesday,
do I said, yes? Second night? Yeah, God, I'm running
on a little a little sleep here, you've been.

Speaker 3 (09:38):
Hanging out, but yeah, because on the first.

Speaker 1 (09:40):
Time, but yet I did let signs in the second night.
He paid for a guy's a group of guys Japan
trip he paid for. Yeah, he paid for he paid
for a heap of different stuff. On the second night
we were there, and yeah, it was honestly one of
the best concerts I've ever been to. And I'm not
just saying that because we were recently hanging out. It
actually was, and so.

Speaker 3 (09:59):
How does that happen?

Speaker 2 (10:00):
Does people run into the audience and go grab him
and go, right, oh, he's a check.

Speaker 1 (10:03):
What he So he walks around and basically he'll identify
people in the crowd. He'll look at their sign and
a lot of the time, if it's something that's sentimental
or it's something that he can resonate with, then he'll
point them out and then a member of his team
will then run up to them and then they grab them,
you know, and then they take them aside and then
sort it out whether it's a whether it's a check

(10:24):
for something, or you know, organizing something for them like
a one off experience like a meet and greet or
something like that. That's how they handle it.

Speaker 3 (10:30):
Pretty cool.

Speaker 1 (10:31):
Yeah, yeah, look, it's really cool and it's something that
not a lot of artists definitely do. The generosity that
came from him is something that's probably one of the
most Yeah, it's probably one of the highest amount of
generosity I've ever seen from an artist in terms of
the way that he operates and his generosity with just
general people. He's very humble, happy to meet people, you know,

(10:53):
doesn't he doesn't act like this snobbish you know SuperStar's Yeah,
he's a really humble guy. It's happy to sort of
mingle with the crowd and talk to people, and obviously
very generous with financial stuff as well.

Speaker 2 (11:07):
Well, then I hope he does come back and gives
people a chance.

Speaker 1 (11:10):
To get a sign going.

Speaker 2 (11:12):
Yeah, well, we tried to get one in on the
Monday night and it was confiscated. Oh no, they're not
nice about it at Boondle. I've got to say they
know they weren't.

Speaker 1 (11:22):
Well yeah, I mean I don't. I think I don't
know why that would have even happened, because I know
they were allowing signs into every day, but obviously they
must have found out about it on the on the
Monday and then demanded that it was allowed for the
Tuesday because they were all back on Tuesday.

Speaker 2 (11:33):
When you see him next, can you tell him that
My husband then took his shirt off, found a Nico
Penn wrote on it so that my daughter could hold
up a sign, which was Drake, will you come on
my podcast? Because she's got a teen podcast. So that's
what people will.

Speaker 1 (11:47):
I will definitely let them know when they come back. Yeah, hopefully, well,
hopefully we'll see them again and see them through the
venues again.

Speaker 3 (11:53):
Yeah, you just got to You just got to take
a swing, don't you.

Speaker 2 (11:55):
What if you're the guy, What if you're the guy
that gets Drake on a teenager's podcast.

Speaker 3 (12:00):
It's called move over, mama.

Speaker 1 (12:01):
Look, I'll see. I'll see what I can do. Otherwise,
next time they're up, if they're they're here and they're
coming through, whether they're going to Cali Tax Office or Tarma,
I'll get you guys an invite so you can come
and hang out.

Speaker 2 (12:13):
Oh my god, you're the best. Well, thank you so
much for joining us. And what a cool story to
tell the grandkids.

Speaker 1 (12:18):
All right, have a good morning.

Speaker 5 (12:19):
Guy, care Maddy. Bye bye bye bye
