Speaker 1 (00:00):
Thomas, Good morning, Good morning.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
Okay, so we've now broken up with Cyclone Alfred.

Speaker 1 (00:07):
He's ex tropical Cyclone Alfred.

Speaker 3 (00:11):
That's good news, I guess finally it's been a long time.
But I mean there is still obviously the potential for widespread,
very heavy rainfall today, which you know is just adding
to those effects from last night.

Speaker 4 (00:25):
Is that to be expected now, like really high rain?

Speaker 3 (00:30):
Yeah, we're seeing some really big totals on forecast data
for just the next twenty four hours, not even beyond that,
widespread falls of potentially two hundred to four hundred millimeters
isolated up to seven hundred on some data. So that's
an absolute ton of rain. Obviously, a lot of areas
through Logan and the Gold Coast last night already copped

(00:51):
a lot of rain. So that's kind of putting some
alert signs on taste, like the Logan and Albert rivers,
as well as back through the border Rangers.

Speaker 1 (01:02):
So how are you feeling about everything?

Speaker 2 (01:05):
Are you relieved that it wasn't as bad wind wise
as we expected.

Speaker 3 (01:12):
I've got a mixture of emotions at the moment, the
first one being how damn tired I am? It was
a very long night, and I'm sure a lot of
people had a very long night, certainly through our private
messages and everything all night we were getting that vibe.
But definitely glad that it wasn't I mean Cat two

(01:34):
even it was borderline KAT two when it went over
straighty Cat won through Morton, so we can really quickly,
I even think to some degree that was still a
little bit higher than what it probably was with those
strong winds. Staying offshore. Did get some really bad reports
out of some of the offshore islands like Russell Island
and Maclay Island, but we don't know much more through there.

(01:58):
In the big picture that it seemed like we we
really escape the potential for that higher in destruction.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
Well that's a good thing.

Speaker 4 (02:06):
It is a relief, isn't it. Even though there's this
anticipation some people are just going it's ended. But this
heavy rain in the next twenty four hours is the
thing that people have to contemplate with different sorts of
flooding that they're going to face.

Speaker 2 (02:20):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (02:20):
Look, there's a ton of trees down through the Gold Coast,
northern Rivers, even up through here in the scenic Room
and into Logan. There's just so many trees down. We're
getting private messages every couple of seconds at the moment,
and every second one seems to be a tree on
a house, a tree on a car, tree locking a road.
So there is that aspect. Three hundred thousand without power

(02:42):
as well. So it's not like we completely escaped a bullet,
but it certainly wasn't at levels that it could have
been where we were seeing, you know, the wind it
self causing destruction to homes and buildings. At the moment,
it seems to be all tree and power line related,
and hopefully a lot of that can get cleaned up
in the coming days when the weather does start to

(03:04):
ease a bit.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
Yeah, there's a flight vibe of oh, it wasn't as
bad as what we thought. Oh, everyone rolled us up
and they made us almost panic, and it hasn't been
as bad. But at the same time, if they didn't
do that and it was even worse, then we'd be
upset about that. So choose your hard I'd choose to
be prepared. I'd choose to have a fridge full of
food and be over prepared and safe rather than unprepared

(03:30):
and unsafe.

Speaker 3 (03:32):
Exactly. I've been religiously telling people over the last like
twenty four to forty eight hours. If it's underwhelming, that's
actually a really good thing. If it's underwhelming, that means
that you yourself didn't cop the full bront of it.
You didn't cop damage. You're okay, and that's what we
want out of it. We don't want to see houses

(03:53):
completely destroyed and lives turned upside down. I'm glad everyone
prepared for it. I think a lot of people have
probably upset too that the cyclone snack pile is probably
getting a bit low because of how drawn out this became.

Speaker 1 (04:08):
And that is the quote of the interview.

Speaker 4 (04:11):
You should have seen what we were eating just before
we actually spoke to you on the phone.

Speaker 1 (04:15):
We're eating the Saxon.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
I've got to say, last last night I did go
Oh I've now got out the emergency lasagna.

Speaker 1 (04:21):
We really do need to go back to the shops.

Speaker 3 (04:26):
My breakfast this morning has been the Allen's mixed pack
of Lolli. I'm just trying to get a sugar hit
at the moment.

Speaker 2 (04:33):
Well, you need to go to bed, So Thomas, thank
you for chatting to us and keeping everybody updated. People
truly really appreciate the Higgins stormchases.

Speaker 1 (04:42):
You accurately do the weather every single time.

Speaker 3 (04:47):
Thank you guys, and obviously I hope everyone is safe
from last night and safe over the next couple of
days during this raign.

Speaker 4 (04:55):
Thanks mate, well done.

Speaker 3 (04:57):
No worries.
