Speaker 1 (00:00):
So I have obviously a Queensland driver's license, but I
also have an international driver's license. So I hire a
car because dealing with tiktooks and bartering and all that
not my jam. I doesn't want to get in the car.
I want to go get comfortable driving overseas. It's like fun,
is it? It's madness, but it's fun, right. So I
thought I'll go down to have some dinner. Yes, drive
the car. I'm not drinking, I'm eating. I'm having a

(00:22):
bit of a look around. Then I'm getting in the
car and going home. That all happened. Get in the
car to go home, and one hundred meters from where
I parked, there's like witch's hats all funneling this four
lane one way straight into one lane. I'm like, oh,
what's going on here? It's the police. It's a booze bus.
I'm like, cool, I haven't anything the drink. I'm totally fine.
I've got my international driver's license, a Queen's Land driver's license.

(00:45):
Would they require so your papers? Yep, I'm thinking, I'm cool.
There's no dramas here. No. So I pull up. He says,
can you talk into this stick, which is some kind
of breath testing thing. And then he says, oh, you're
going to have to go and talk to this guy
over here. So there's another guy I set up on
the back of his ute with just a bit of paperwork.
He's build his own office. Now I'm thinking, I said, oh,

(01:05):
what's the problem. He goes, just talk to that guy.
So over I go and I said, ah, old mate
over here sent me to talk to you. What's going on?
And he said, oh, you'll have to breathe into this.
And now he's got a proper, like a normal breath
test thing that we have here at Queensland in Queensland,
so I breathe into that. He's videoing me on his
phone at the same time, and then he goes, ah,
that's a problem. You're sixty. And I'm like, what's sixty.

(01:28):
He goes, you need to be fifty or under. And
I'm like, but I haven't had anything to drink, so
what do you mean. He goes, you're sixty. Okay, you
need to be fifty or under. I said, okay, so
what does that mean. Then he goes, you are now
under arrest. You'll be put in a police car and
taken to a tight prison where you will stay for

(01:48):
a maximum of thirty days. During this time, you'll go
in front of the judge and he will determine what
your punishment is for this crime. And I said what crime?
And he said, you're drunk. I said, I haven't had
anything to drink. He said, you're sixty. You need to
be under fifty. I'm like, but I haven't had anything
to drink. You are now under arrest. It was like

(02:08):
a script that he was reading out of his mind.
It was exactly the same the entire time. And I said, well,
we'll have to do the test again because I haven't
had anything to drink. I've done nothing wrong. You are
now under arrest. You will be placed in a police card,
take into a tie prison where you will stay for
a maximum I said, okay, what's that thing where I
pay money and I just leave because I've seen this
on Instagram before I left. That's not going to happen

(02:30):
to me.

Speaker 2 (02:30):
So this is happening.

Speaker 1 (02:31):
What was happening? And I'm like, keep in mind, there's
five or six other tourists in the same spot who
have already gone through this process. I've been pulled up too.
And I said okay. So I said, what's the money
thing where I pay? Because I'd seen it online? And
I go and he goes, oh that okay, you owe
us ten thousand Thai bart. So what's that works out?
I think it's about five hundred Australian dollars. And I

(02:53):
don't carry cards or anything in Thailand. I just take
the cash because everything's cash. Ye, I don't have ten
thousand tie bart in my pocket. And I'm like, my
hotel is an hour's drive from here. How's this going
to work? I said, mate, I don't have the cash.
He goes, cool, there's an ATM just up the road,
so they know where the ATMs are. Yeah, they only
want cash. I'm like, can I tap and go? Can

(03:13):
I pay for ridiculous? It's gone? This is madness, and
I'm thinking I don't want to go to Thailand prison.
That sounds ood. They want cash, they want cash. There's
no FOS facility. So up to the seven eleven I go.
I don't have a card, so I'm trying to get
my phone to get money out. I'm asking the seven
eleven person if they can give me money. No, no, no,
In the end, I just transferred money from my account

(03:33):
into some random guy who was also getting money out
because he was allegedly card he had his card luckily,
what a nice bloke. So he gives me the cash.
I go back and I say to the first guy, Hey,
I've got the money. He goes talk to that guy.
So over to that guy, I go, and he says, oh,
it's twenty thousand. Now, I'm like, mate, you just told
me it's ten. I don't have anymore. It's ten. And

(03:55):
he stands and he looks at me and he goes,
which one of you and to point to my license
on the back of the back of the ute. Yeah,
the police car apparently, And he go he takes the money,
counts it, and he goes, you're free to leave. And
I said, but what is their paperwork? What what you know?
You're free to leave. I'm like, but and I can drive.
I'm apparently drunk, but I can drive. He's like, Yep,

(04:16):
you're free to leave. Oh my god, my heart was racing.

Speaker 2 (04:20):
Yeah, would have been so because she's looking at like
the Bangkok Hilton, you know what I mean, those movies
that we all see. So that you ended up in
the car and then driving back and then do you
reckon you saw about three or four other ones there was.

Speaker 1 (04:36):
Yeah, there was four more booze busters on the way
homeway home, same deal.

Speaker 2 (04:41):
And did you get asked to pull over at any
of those?

Speaker 1 (04:43):
Well, the second one I came to, I just drive
straight through. I didn't stop. And did they They asked
me to stop and I said I'm not stopping. And
did they chase you? Yes?

Speaker 2 (04:52):
And so you were in a getaway car.

Speaker 1 (04:54):
Yes, I was high speeding through the back street.

Speaker 2 (04:57):
And did they give up the chase?

Speaker 1 (04:59):
Well, they are uncrappy sco oh, that's see you guys.
That's it. So let's talk about what happened to you overseas?

Speaker 2 (05:06):
Yeah, anything like that. Look, we'd love you to share
that with us. If you've traveled, what happened, what dodgy
things happened to you oversea?

Speaker 1 (05:13):
