Speaker 1 (00:00):
And we have to say props to Trent Dalton.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
We spoke to him late last year because he wrote
the book and it's a best selling book, World best
selling book, and we spoke to him and he gave
us a little snippet of some of how some of
the way he thought about the Netflix series.

Speaker 3 (00:18):
It was so powerful that my eldest daughter started weeping
at the great Simon Baker, incredibly handsome man who's taken
somewhat of a glowdown to play my dad essentially. And
I said, hey, are you okay? I can stop it
if it's too sad, and she said, no, Dad, it's
too beautiful. You know, my dad died when she was
like nine, so she didn't really get to know him
that well. And she's gotten to know this guy through

(00:41):
a Netflix television show. If you live in Southeast Queensland,
if you lived in Southeast Queensland in the nineteen eighties,
you will feel seen. You will know this world and
it's like nothing I've ever seen. And I can't wait
for Australia to see this thing.

Speaker 1 (00:56):
Such a good fella.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
Now he was talking, Simon Baker, You've never seen a
more vulnerable role for him to play, so he's normally
like a leading man. He plays a broken human and
he just nails it. And of course Travis forgot his
surname Nan. You know, the guy from Vikings, he's the
Australian guy. He plays the stepdad again, just smashes the role.

(01:22):
But the highlights were the two kids. The two kid actors.
One of them doesn't have much dialogue in it at all.
He doesn't speak in the first couple of episodes. Just
amazing acting without being able to have dialogue, just to
use his eyes and so forth. And then the youngest
kid just nails it.

Speaker 1 (01:42):
It's one of those shows.

Speaker 2 (01:44):
It's not four Kids, by the way, just a highlight,
even though there are kids in the movie. It's not
four kids. But it's just taken the world by storm
now this show. So you've got to check it out.
And there is a lot of that Queensland pride.

Speaker 4 (01:57):
Yeah, you know, it's interesting. You said that people have
watched like the first episode and then not being able
to watch the rest, and you're not the first person
to tell me that. But that's also the same with
the book. The book is a hard read in the beginning,
and then if you push through the book. You cannot
put the book down. So it's interesting that the two
like the book and then the TV show has a

(02:19):
very similar start that it's hard to push through that beginning,
but then you push through and then you cannot stop.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
Yeah, it's well, it's well worth it. You've got to
check it out.

Speaker 2 (02:27):
So we thought we'd open the phones today because we've
had a break. Some people who had two weeks off,
some people three four? What have you been binge watching?
I mean I was lucky enough to watch ted Lasso
thanks to EJ. So that was a excellent watch. So
those two for me are the best watches.

Speaker 4 (02:46):
You've got to say thanks to EJ.

Speaker 1 (02:47):
What that means? Oh no, everyone listened yesterday.

Speaker 2 (02:50):
I watched it on her Apple TV because I don't
have Apple, so it as a bonus.

Speaker 4 (02:56):
So if you haven't watched ted lasson, you want to
just come to my house.

Speaker 2 (02:59):
Yep, she's selling tickets double five, seven, one, one oh
two nine.

Speaker 1 (03:03):
Hit us up.

Speaker 5 (03:03):
What have you been binge watching over the summer holidays?

Speaker 1 (03:07):
You could?

Speaker 5 (03:07):

been binge watching stuff, you'll enjoy this prize. Dandy Cineam

familyfilms dandy dot com dot Au.

Speaker 1 (03:15):
