Speaker 1 (00:00):
Eight hot tomato. Now talking about partying. Our young people

(00:02):
deserve to party safely in this city and they deserve
to get home safe and alive, and that didn't happen
last weekend. And Burly businesses they deserve to be able
to operate safely. And our families need to be able
to live without fear. In Burley, they need more police presence,
as we have heard over the last few days talking
about what happened over the weekend in Burley. So what
are our politicians going to do about it? Now? Police

(00:23):
is a state issue. We are heading to a state
election and at the moment the state MP there is
Michael Hart for Burley, but he is retiring and the
person that is opting to take his place is Herman Foster,
who we all know has been a counselor. So he's
joining us on the phone this morning. Good morning Herman,
Good morning guys. Hey, what's your title right now? Because
you're a counselor but now you're not and you could

(00:44):
be the MP for Burley but you're not. So what's
your actual title right now? Herman?

Speaker 2 (00:53):
I'm Herman the LMP candidate for Burley, but yeah, you're
quite right. It used to be the counselor looked after
Burley Water's varsity.

Speaker 1 (01:00):
Okay, great, So look, we've been talking about what's going
on in Burley. Tragically, a young gold coaster has lost
his life and there is calls for a police station
to be put in Burley. If you were to get in,
what are you going to do about it?

Speaker 2 (01:12):
Look, I've got some good news for those who are
calling for a police beat, and that is just yesterday
the Olympia announced that if government changes, we will deliver
that police beat for Burley. But not just that. We're
going to kick in two million dollars for more police,
a million dollars for improved nighttime safety with a community
led liquor coord But what's going to blanket the area

(01:33):
with CCTV with five hundred thousand dollars for council to
expand that program?

Speaker 1 (01:38):
So I hadn't happened before Because you're replacing Michael Hart,
who is the same persuasion, a liberal member. Why didn't
it happen before? Oh?

Speaker 2 (01:46):
Well, we've had a labor government since twenty twenty fifteen
and we've been begging and pleading for action. The community
has run several campaigns we've had town halls, they've been
in charge of the treasury benchers and they've decided not
to spend money Burley. But if government changes, that will change.
And we've got four point one million dollars ready to
go to Burley.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
Is there a rumbling around the whole community that this
is just a must.

Speaker 2 (02:11):
Look one hundred percent. I've knocked on thousands of doors
and long term locals in Burley feel absolutely excluded from
their backyard. They don't feel safe walking to their cars
at night. They worry about their kids venturing into Burley.
If you walk down the esplanade, even during the day,
you're at risk of assault. Beautiful Burley is at a crossroads.
It's got to change. We've got to look after Burley.

Speaker 1 (02:34):
We really do, because on my hair dresses there and
I don't want to make it about me, but you
just didn't. I just honestly, the other day, my daughter
and I went to the hairdressers and we were walking
back to our car, and I'm just going to say
how it is. There was a guy, very scary, homeless
walking around and he was harassing people. And there is
nothing worse than have you twelve year old all of

(02:55):
a sudden cuddle right into you. Actually scared in the
middle of the day walking past the balls club. That
should not be happening. No.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
Look, I spoke to a young lady owns this great
business on James Street and she had to shut up
shop early because somebody with huge struggles walked in began
terrorizing staff and customers. Not only did it cost her
the day's trade, it robbed her of a sense that
it was safe coming to work. And that has to

(03:24):
change because every tourism campaign for Australia that we see
showcases burly and if it's not safe, we're putting more
than safety at risk, we're putting the economy at risk
as well.

Speaker 1 (03:34):
Well, that's a good way to look at it. Good
on your herman. Thanks for your time mate. Well, actually,
before you go, what did you think of the debate
last night? I mean, obviously you've got to say David
chris A fully won. But it was it was an
interesting hour, wasn't it.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
What did you think? Look, I think it was all.
I think it was all in the title. It was
a great debate. There was a lot of substance there
and looked from my perspective, I think Queenslanders have got
a real choice to make, and you know, I'm fully
backed and I hope the government changes because, as he
talked about crime, crime, crime, crime's gone up, the only

(04:06):
way to reverse it it was change of government and
that's what he offered.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
Okay, well that's a lot of money that you've promised,
so that I just will your hope it happens.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
Also, well we can all make it happen. On October
twenty sixth.

Speaker 1 (04:17):
Thanks Herman, and miss do you miss working in counsel Herman?

Speaker 2 (04:21):
Oh, look, I love that job. I love that job.
But you know, I got so tired of talking about
crime as a counselor. It's just brilliant to be potentially
in position to actually solve it.

Speaker 1 (04:33):
Yeah, great, nice work, right, look at it? Thanks Herman.

Speaker 2 (04:36):
Thanks guys,
