Official mascot for the Olympic Games.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
So we've got Lucy in the newsroom to have a
little chat about what is going to be named as
the mascot for the Olympic Games.

Speaker 3 (00:11):
Alright, you there, Sorry, I've rushed in. Sorry about that. Yeah,
this is some really breaking news. It's very exciting. We
have got breaking news that the Ian the Ibis has
been named the official mascot. I am not kidding of
the twenty thirty two Brisbane Olympics. So this is after

(00:32):
months of speculation. Obviously, Olympic officials have just unveiled Ian
in a ceremony at South Bank. They've described him as
a true symbol of resilience, adaptability and an impressive ability
to survive of discarded sausage rolls and hot chippies. Organizers
say the beloved bin Chicken is the obvious choice for

(00:53):
our mascot because just like the Olympic Spirit, you'll find
an Ibis in every part of Southeast Queensland, including here
on the Gold Coast plenty here the gold, at silver
and bronze medals. This is a big one. Will now
feature tiny Ibis engravings and spectators can expect plenty of
official in the Ibis merchandise sund Sale.

Speaker 4 (01:12):
I just saw the image of the mascot. Really it's
not what you think. It's actually a really cute it's
cute the mascot.

Speaker 5 (01:22):
So I was worried because the bin chicken is not.

Speaker 3 (01:25):
It's not a greasy bin chicken. It's a nice, clean
looking bin chip.

Speaker 5 (01:28):
Yeah it looks like from Disneyland.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
Yeah, yeah it does.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
Well, that's how you have to think about it, don't you,
Because it's going to be like marching all of the athletes,
so it's got to look happy.

Speaker 5 (01:38):
There's got to be more to the name Ian.

Speaker 1 (01:41):
I'm just thinking in the Ibis is cute, don't you.

strong ody name, don't you reckon?

Will be an influx of twenty thirty two babies, yeah exactly.

Speaker 1 (02:01):

Speaker 2 (02:01):
You know what, all the athletes that come here from
other countries that don't understand that it's quite a bogun
name will be like, oh, what's the Australian name?

Speaker 4 (02:09):
Olympic Games in twenty five years time, there will be
all these Ian's winning gold.

at Royal Pines.

about Ian? The ibis being named as our Olympic mascot.

kind of almost looks a bit like a crooker barrough
to be honest.

Speaker 5 (02:36):
But yeah, I like the way they've given him thongs
me too.

Speaker 4 (02:40):
That's that's so kind of reminds me of that opening
ceremony a little bit in Sydney when they had the
lawn mowers and everything, you know, the iconic Australian.

Speaker 5 (02:49):
On the thong, you know what I mean. Yes, so
I think they've done well there.
