Speaker 1 (00:00):
Twenty six degrees of the Seaway right now, but an
extreme heat warning is in place for today, expected to
reach thirty five degrees plus on the Gold Coast, so
brace yourself for that. It's Gaily and Emily Jade at
one o ton on hot Tomato.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
We're heading into a public holiday, a long weekend for
a lot of people, a lot of people also working though,
and there's a press release that came out from Southern
University of Queensland saying that there's a lot of employers
now are allowing.

Speaker 3 (00:22):
People to take the public holiday when they want.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
So if they have a culturally significant day they want
to celebrate, whether they're a migrant or whether it's something religious,
that they're able to take it.

Speaker 3 (00:33):
When they want. And we just want to know is
this already happening in your work?

Speaker 4 (00:36):
Yeah? I want to take off Australia Day, a Good Friday, Easter, Monday,
and Zach Day, King's Birthday, and then have a week off,
an extra week.

Speaker 3 (00:44):
So you just want it all in one week.

Speaker 4 (00:46):
Then you get it an extra week holiday. Yeah, that's
how you do it, Okay, Like you think about it,
You work all those days and then you go to
an extra we got it tag it on on your
trip overseas.

Speaker 2 (00:57):
That's exactly right. Well, let's go to Louise. Do you
like this idea? Is it alveray happening at your workplace?

Speaker 5 (01:02):
So in my situation, I work most public holidays and
I get paid time and a half and then I
get seven and a half hours time and lose so
I can paint that time another day when I want it.

Speaker 3 (01:14):
So you already get that deal going.

Speaker 5 (01:16):
On, correct, I thought all the time, because otherwise the
person that would take over my job entering the phone
would be a casual.

Speaker 2 (01:23):
Person, and then they get even paid more because they're casual.

Speaker 3 (01:26):
So your work wants you to work.

Speaker 5 (01:28):
Yeah, because I'm saving the money and in the long run,
I take the time off when I want to instead
of on that particular day where we're not doing much anyway.

Speaker 4 (01:36):
And can you have that time broken down into the
you know, I just need to pop out for two
hours and then you can just take it in hours
or is it the full day?

Speaker 5 (01:44):
No? No, I can take it however I want to.

Speaker 3 (01:47):
That sounds like a great workplace. Absolutely, you don't work
for yourself, do you know?

Speaker 4 (01:54):
Can you say where you work for you?

Speaker 5 (01:55):
Owner. Yeah, I work for a SkyPoint. Oh do you
it's nice to hear that the endswer the phone.

Speaker 3 (02:03):
Yeah, that's nice to know they're looking at their employees
that way.

Speaker 5 (02:06):
And I'm always really busy on a public holiday with
the question of are you.

Speaker 3 (02:10):
Open of course, so you wouldn't want to casually.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
You would want someone that knows what they're doing really well.

Speaker 5 (02:17):
Correct. But that's today where I'm mainly in with an
operations manager and it's quid up.

Speaker 3 (02:22):
Oh great, Okay, that's good to hear. This is sounding great. Thanks.

Speaker 2 (02:27):
Let's go to Sean from tweedtheads. Is your workplace doing
this or do you like the idea of it?

Speaker 6 (02:32):
So all my workplace do pretty much allow us to
do it already within reason. For example, the best example
I can give is our office is Brisbane Base but
with the show days because we've got guys that cover
Gold Coast logan hipswitch, so they actually already allow us
all to take the show days that you want if
you you know, so it works best for you, especially

(02:54):
the Gold Coast won't being a Friday. Who ever wants
a one day off in the middle of the week,
you know in Brisbane, so.

Speaker 4 (03:00):
You choose your showdow so you have to work one
of them, but you'd choose which one you want.

Speaker 6 (03:05):
To take pretty much. Yeah, and then they're pretty good
with Like, we've got some guys who need to start later,
so they do actually work really good in with working
with people, are you. There's like one guy who got
a lot of family and young kids and that, so
he can't start till ten, so he goes ten till
much later in the evening, which works well. And then
and so they're pretty good like that. I've not actually

(03:28):
pasked them if we could do the shift of my
public holiday, but I reckon they'd do well until we
open to it.

Speaker 4 (03:32):
What's the line of work, Sean.

Speaker 6 (03:34):
Mate, company I work for, so, I'm an electrician, but
we look after like coffee machines and food equipment and
your coals and wullies and coffee machines in big corporations,
so you're you're busy all the time. You know, if
we could work, if we could work seven days a week,
they'd have us working seven days work and keep I was.

Speaker 2 (03:53):
Just thinking, Sean, you know those stores are open on
a lot of the public holidays, so your workplace would
probably want people managing the public holidays and some working
and some not so that they can keep servicing those equipments.

Speaker 6 (04:07):
Oh absolutely, and on with you, ej. I love working
Christmas because there's no traffic on the road and you
get really quick everywhere.

Speaker 3 (04:16):
I don't think we're stupid, we're not.

Speaker 4 (04:18):
They're going to be careful what we wish for though,
No way, I want to work this Christmas.

Speaker 1 (04:22):
Hey, Sean, We're going to flick you one hundred bucks
to spend at my jewelry shop in Nebby Beach. Your
engagement and wedding rings specialists to my jewely shop, Nobby
