Speaker 1 (00:02):
Lady, you have a special guest.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (00:05):
Love there.
Speaker 3 (00:07):
Palm.
Speaker 4 (00:08):
Good morning happily.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
Oh yeah, well we haven't seen you yet.
Speaker 4 (00:14):
Got to connect. We're all back on air. You're back
to work now.
Speaker 3 (00:17):
Did you have a good break, Yes, we did, we did,
Ruth and I. We just took a few days off
from Singapore, so very good.
Speaker 4 (00:24):
Now lost to unpack with you for the new year.
We obviously just had the Australian of the Year awards
and you're actually asking straight away for people to start
thinking about it and nominating again for next years.
Speaker 3 (00:35):
Oh. Absolutely, We've got so many extraordinary people helping people
in need. There's four categories, a Stream of the Year
award and then we had the Senior Sperien of the
Year and the Young Austream of the Year. It's between
sixteen and thirty and your local hero.
Speaker 4 (00:51):
We do well here on the Gold Coast because the
last couple of years we've actually had as they start
out as the rog Coaster, then they've become the Queenslander
of the U and then.
Speaker 1 (01:00):
They go all the way to Australian of the Year,
like twenty twenty three, our Gold Coaster Young Australian the
Year became young Australian the Year for the whole country.
Emma mcullen.
Speaker 4 (01:13):
That's right. We've had so many, so many and so.
Speaker 3 (01:16):
Right, Melinda Beasley went all the way. Oh yeah one of.
Speaker 4 (01:20):
Course of course, and Marco Renney as well, meant of business.
So look we've had.
Speaker 5 (01:26):
Look at these people.
Speaker 4 (01:27):
They're just such good people.
Speaker 2 (01:29):
It's excellent.
Speaker 4 (01:30):
So what do we need to do for this tom
Where do we enter and what are like? Do you
need a lot of people to nominate one person? What's
the whole deal?
Speaker 3 (01:39):
The deal is that you just tell us a bit
about the Gold Coaster who makes our community better for
our city, and I just get one in the seconder
and you can do it online City Gold Coast website
slash GC Awards.
Speaker 4 (01:57):
Now let's get onto that and talk about the good stuff.
But us a bit disappointed about what's going on with
the federal government pulling money from the tram and so
what we've been talking a bit about it on here.
Speaker 5 (02:06):
You're going to think about buses.
Speaker 3 (02:08):
Well, the idea is that when they blindsided you, I
didn't want to go back and go and just winge about.
I just want to go back. First up, why did
you drop the why did you drop myself when we
forced our hard to be on the priority list. I
want to know that first, and secondly, while i'm there,
I'm going to go, well, mate, there's other options. If
(02:30):
money is a problem, well there's there's a cheaper solution,
albeit it's not as good. I still prefer a light rail,
butte an option of doing nothing and dropping off on
the low priority is not an option. That's what we're
going to work on and drive the message home.
Speaker 2 (02:51):
So basically, what's the alternative you're signing to them? You
don't want to fund us for that, fund us for this?
This is cheaper.
Speaker 3 (02:57):
Yeah, that's it. That's it man. And I've looked at
the Metro, the Brisbane one, you know, the transfer between
two mostes on the one platform. You know it's not ideal,
but because we don't want the transfer, I just want
to sit there and relax and then all of a
sudden at the airport.
Speaker 4 (03:16):
What about the back train line like old heavy rail.
Speaker 3 (03:21):
Well, the population is along the coastal line, so that's
where the return on investment is and people will build
more accommodation along there, and you know, the council gets
more rates. The GST for the FED. So the business
case shows that going strack down on the coast is
a return on investment is much better than going the
(03:44):
back way and on the M one.
Speaker 4 (03:47):
I still feel that could build up that area as well.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
She's pushing it time she bangs on about it for
her friends in Kempsey to be able to come up
and visit people.
Speaker 4 (03:55):
Well, I just think rurally we've forgotten about a lot
of people trying to get here.
Speaker 3 (04:00):
I don't disagree, and but at the moment, uh, you know,
we've got we've got nothing on in the party, so
you know, you know how we work. We'll get this
on and then we'll go. Please, sir, may have some.
Speaker 5 (04:14):
More boy wanted more in Tom, Thanks so much for
joining us this morning.
Speaker 1 (04:27):
This morning from nine
