In our first episode of The Millennials series, we welcome Andrew to the studio. Andrew reflects upon his upbringing in Maine, which included playing ice hockey in a cemetery using shoes for goals, lots of baseball and a very “GenX” childhood. Andrew was part of the first generation to experience the repercussions that can result from pictures posted online to social media, and shares with us the MySpace experience. Baseball led him to playing college ball, and he offers insight into the mindset and what is truly required to be a student-athlete in college. We learn about his experience working with nonverbal autistic students as he pursued a career in teaching, and how he still carries those moments with him to this day. Seeing what life holds beyond Maine led him to a move to south Florida, where he began and succeeded in a sales career. The birth of his daughter is without a doubt the highlight of his life, and we enjoyed his perspective of truly appreciating the things that matter most while raising his daughter. We reflect on the benefits of multigenerational living that have resulted from Andrew’s father’s declining health, and what a blessing it has been to have his mother living with him and his daughter. It was a pleasure to get to know Andrew through his story, and appreciate his general vibe of “This too shall pass”. We look forward to hosting him again in the future!
