Basketball dreams are soaring beyond borders as East Henderson High School's Coach Marquintus Jones and star player Caiden Brewer prepare to represent the United States at the United World Games in Italy and Austria.

What began as a local success story has transformed into an international opportunity. Coach Jones shares how his six-year journey at East Henderson focused first on building relationships with players before chasing victories. That foundation led to an extraordinary season featuring a remarkable 27-game winning streak and an undefeated regular season record. The coach's philosophy proves that when players know how much you care, they'll invest in what you're teaching them—both on and off the court.

Caiden Brewer embodies this success as Henderson County's all-time leading scorer, two-time conference player of the year, and newly announced two-time North Carolina District 12 Player of the Year. Beyond his athletic prowess, Brewer ranks among the top 10 students in his class academically. His leadership extends to mentoring younger players, including his freshman brother Jalen who joined the team this year. For Caiden, the opportunity to travel internationally marks a first—"I've never been anywhere," he admits with excitement about taking his talents to Europe alongside the coach he's trusted for four years.

Their journey represents more than basketball excellence; it's a testament to what's possible when community, dedication, and relationship-building converge. You can support their European adventure through a special fundraiser as they prepare to showcase Henderson County talent on the global stage. Follow their journey and be part of sending these hometown heroes across the Atlantic to represent not just East Henderson, but America itself.

Yeah, especially this week.
We've been looking forward toour guests today.
But before we get to our guests, tell us a little bit about the
real estate market.

Speaker 2 (01:17):
Well, the real estate market continues to be strong.
I mean we're averaging 124single-family homes a month
selling in Henderson County, some 12 condos a month selling
in Henderson County.
So the condo market makes upabout 10% of the market.
The single-family home marketremains strong.
But the thing that's happeningis the inventory levels remain

(01:37):
low but because of the demand, prices still are remaining
higher.
Our average single-family homeprice in Henderson County is
$550,000.
$550,000.
But we're just seeing so muchactivity.
It's a great time of year, certainly going into the spring.
I mean real estate it's alwayswhen is it right for you?
It's right when it's right foryou.

(01:57):
It's not about the interestrate, it's not about the prices
or the economy.
I mean people buy and sellhomes around life.
Life happens and it could be areally beautiful, exciting
reason, a celebration you'rebuying or selling a home, or it
could be a challenging reason.

Speaker 1 (02:12):
Whatever it might be, we're there to walk alongside
with our clients and you guys dothat every single day from your
offices in Flat Rock and you dothat for the whole region.

Speaker 2 (02:22):

Speaker 1 (02:34):
Well, noah, join me in welcoming coach jones and uh
caden brewer to the mic today.
You, before you switch the micaway, you were the one who
actually brought this to ourattention here on the hometown
hero.

Speaker 2 (02:47):
Well, we are so grateful to have coach jones
here.
It was last year, I believe, and when you guys won the
conference championship and thenwhat an incredible season you
guys have had.
And there's also, I mean, andwe want to talk about, um, what
you guys have accomplished thisyear.
This year I unprecedented forEast Henderson.

Speaker 3 (03:07):
Yes, sir, Thank you all for having me and I'm so
happy to be here.
And, Mr George, I thank you forjust all that you've done for
East and just for you know, justnot only the basketball team
but for all sports at East.
So we really appreciate that.

Speaker 2 (03:21):
Absolutely, man.
We're so proud of our studentsand we're so grateful for the
program you guys have createdlet's talk about.
Well, and, by the way, there'ssome other incredible news you
guys were going to share abouttoday as well that we want to
talk about.
But, first off, let's talkabout the season you had, and
then let's talk about who youhave here with us this morning.

Speaker 3 (03:43):
Yeah, the season, I haven't really reflected on it
much, but having a 27-game winstreak, it was amazing.
Just having the guys fight andbe gritty each and every day and
taking the season one day at atime.
It was remarkable to witness, Itell you, just having Caden

(04:06):
Brewer here with me.
He's been an honor to coach thepast four years.
I tell myself each day I don'tknow what I'm going to do
without him.
He has taken our program by thehorns and actually just made it
to what I've been trying to dofor the past six years and he

(04:28):
has done an amazing job of justleading the way, especially his
sophomore, junior, senior year.
He's remarkable as a student,as a person and also as a player
, as you know.

Speaker 2 (04:41):
Yeah, and just an all-around leader.

Speaker 3 (04:44):
You know, academically, athletically, I
mean just uh, I mean it'sincredible yeah, I, I've never
coached um, I've been coachingfor 19 years, and 13 years of it
um at the collegiate level andI never coached a kid um like
caden.
Um, he, he experienced um, hisexperience in the classroom
being a a top 10 student at ourschool and just the person that

(05:07):
he is and where he come from, the parents and the household he
came from, and obviously theplayer everybody knows, just
all-time leading scorer inHenderson County, just two-time
Well, he just found this outyesterday.
I mean, obviously he was thetwo-time.
Well, he just found this outyesterday.
I mean, obviously he was thetwo-time player of the year in

(05:27):
our conference and now he's thetwo-time, uh, north carolina
district 12 uh, player of theyear.
Um, that was just named, Ithink maybe a day ago, um, so in
in last year he was the westernnorth carolina player of the
year and that award has not cameout yet, but I would be shocked
if he didn't win that againthis year.

Speaker 2 (05:46):
Significant.
On top of that, I was told, youguys were invited and selected
to compete in the United WorldGames.
Yeah, on top of everything youguys accomplished.

Speaker 3 (06:01):
Yes, that's another For me.
I was devastated the last gameof the season, of course, just
because I didn't think I wasgoing to get to coach him again.
But now being able to coach himin the United World Games
somewhere in another country,it's going to be awesome.

Speaker 2 (06:20):
I mean, let's talk about this.
Caden Brewer was selected tocompete in the United World
Games in Italy and Austria, representing the United States
on a global stage.
I mean incredible honor Threestraight conference
championships, deep playoff runsand then again your historic
season this past season andagain, as you mentioned, top 10

(06:40):
student in your class.
And then you were selected tocoach the under 19 us team as
well.
I mean, I mean incredible yeah,it's I.

Speaker 3 (06:50):
I'm still shocked.
I'm still shocked.
Um, I'm excited, I'm a littlenervous, um, but um, having came
by my side, it always makes mea better coach that's incredible
, any I mean again historicseason you guys had.

Speaker 2 (07:06):
This is your sixth season at east and again, from
where you began and to where youare right now, I mean it's
remarkable to look at theprogress you've made yeah, it's
um, I tend to look at it a lotum, because I want to continue
to have our program going in theright direction.

Speaker 3 (07:23):
When I took over, it wasn't about the wins and losses
.
It was about the relationshipsfor me with the guys, and the
more they knew how much I caredabout them, the more they were
going to invest into what I wastrying to teach them each day,
not only about basketball, butalso about life, and that's
where I think I get the mostgrowth out of our players off

(07:44):
the court and obviously ittrickles over to on the court
Incredible.

Speaker 1 (07:49):
Six years.
I can't believe you've beenthere because you came here to
the radio station, I believe, asyou were just coming on board,
and that was six years ago.
Yes, sir, time flies.

Speaker 2 (08:00):
Oh, man, and you coached at Limestone.
I did, were you a player thereas well.
I was a player there.

Speaker 3 (08:07):
Actually, in October I was inducted into the
Limestone Hall of Fame as aplayer.
In October I was inducted intothe Limestone Hall of Fame as a
player and after I finished myplaying career, I also coached
there for 13 years.
Incredible yes, sir.

Speaker 1 (08:19):
Swing the mic around to Caden.
Caden, we've been talking aboutyou.
Now we've got to talk to you.
How are you?
I'm good, I'm good, it's goodto have you here with us.
Tell us about how you feelabout all of this excitement.
Man, this is big stuff.

Speaker 4 (08:33):
Yeah, I mean yeah it's really exciting.
I've never been anywhere, honestly, never been really far
at all and to go overseas likego Europe and be able to do
something that I love

Speaker 1 (08:46):
to do and then be with my coach.

Speaker 4 (08:48):
You know it's obviously really exciting.

Speaker 1 (08:50):
You are a Hendersonville native?
Yeah, you know, it's obviouslyreally exciting.
You are a hendersonville native, yeah, and so uh, well, you
guys are in june gonna get onthe big bird and take off man.
Uh, there's a fundraising.
Uh drive underway to to helpyou guys.
This is not cheap.
Uh, those air flare tickets arenot cheap.
So uh, tell us about how folkscan contribute, how they can get

(09:12):
in touch.

Speaker 4 (09:13):
So there is a GoFundMe for me and Coach Jones
to just raise money, you know,to help cover some of the
expenses on the trip.
You know, like plane tickets, obviously the travel costs,
hotels food stuff like thatRight, you can find it, I think,
on Facebook probably.

(09:33):
You know a lot of placesInstagram, well we'll be sure to
include it.

Speaker 2 (09:38):
We will be podcasting this program.
We'll be sure to include thatinformation as well.
Absolutely, when you reflect Imean this is your senior year I
can imagine just bittersweet, Imean and again, the opportunity
to continue to play under CoachJones overseas is incredible.
Any reflection over the lastfour years, I mean

(10:00):
congratulations, You're a senior, right graduating, Thank you.
And any plans for college?
Where are you headed?

Speaker 4 (10:09):
I'm not really sure yet.
You know, still waiting it out, trying to make the best
decision possible.

Speaker 2 (10:13):
You know, keep waiting for the best opportunity
, but you know yeah, Did youthink at the beginning of the
season you guys were going tohave that undefeated record
through the regular season?
I mean, not exactly Like I knewit was possible, but like
that's not a common thing, liketeams don't just go undefeated.

Speaker 4 (10:32):
But like looking at our schedule, looking at our
team, like I knew we were goingto be good, but like all it
takes is one game to slip up andI mean that's a loss right
there.
But I mean, yeah, it'sincredible to go undefeated.

Speaker 2 (10:42):
It's incredible Talk about your teammates and the
group you have.

Speaker 4 (10:46):
Yeah, so I I mean, this is my senior class.
These are the kids I've beengoing to school with for 12
years my main guys, kyle Bailey, riley Adams and Caden Allison
we've been with each other sincefirst grade, second grade, I
mean.

Speaker 2 (11:02):
you've been playing basketball together with your
friends since you were inelementary school.

Speaker 4 (11:05):
Yeah, and then obviously brought in my brother
this year he was a freshman, jalen, he was really good for us
this year.
I mean, it was just fun.
It was something different.
I've never got to play with him, that was just.
It was really cool.
That's amazing.

Speaker 1 (11:19):
Well, coach Jones, let's talk about the future
without Caden, as you mentioneda minute ago and right now, you
guys are not just laying around, you're staying sharp, staying
busy, aren't you?

Speaker 3 (11:33):
Yes, sir, we are right now just planning on how
to pick up, just to stay inshape.
And so after spring break we'llstart back with some skill and
drill with the guys that we gotreturning and also with Caden,
just to keep him in shape, andhe's going to do a lot for us
the next couple months just byleading us, like he's done for

(11:54):
the last four years in skill anddrill, just trying to get our
guys better, just for theupcoming season.

Speaker 1 (12:00):
And work with the JVs and bringing out some new guys.

Speaker 3 (12:04):
Yeah, he's actually a part of my JV group as well.
He helps develop those youngguys.
They have a tremendous amountof respect for him and they love
caden and just for him to bearound to to help, you know,
sharpen their skills.
Um, it's, it's been, it's beena really good sight to see how
about your coaching staff?

Speaker 2 (12:24):
talk about the your coaching staff you have with you
.

Speaker 3 (12:26):
Yeah, um, I've been having uh, we lost coach white
side last year and he was a big,big part of of what we was
doing for the last four years.
But the last two years we'llhave Josh English, who he's not
an employee at school but he's ahuge, huge supporter of East.
He graduated from East.
His daughter is a senior on thegirls' basketball team.

(12:48):
He helps me out a lot with justthe basketball mind and being
able to talk legit basketball indepth.
I have Coach Saltz.
He's been with me just thissecond year and he's starting to
come into his own as a coach.
He's been doing a good job of alot of behind the scenes things

(13:09):
that a head coach really needshelp with on a day-to-day basis.
And we brought in anothervolunteer assistant, coach
Robinson, who has done a goodjob of just being around just to
help when things need it.

Speaker 2 (13:25):
What do you feel like the biggest challenge is moving
forward with your program.

Speaker 3 (13:30):
I just think just leadership.
I mean this guy, cadenSimberside.
He's been my leader forobviously the past three years
for sure.
Um, but you know our guys go ashe go, and now that he's gone
so I'm just looking for the nextguy, just to step up.

Speaker 2 (13:46):
There's a void to fill.

Speaker 3 (13:47):
Yeah, huge, huge void , and not only just with offense
and defense, just that voice tohave the coaches back.
And that's something that henever wavered in his four years.
But playing for me, he alwaystrusted me and that's a big, big
part of our relationship.

Speaker 1 (14:05):
Trust Always trusted me and that's a big, big part of
our relationship trust.
Well, congratulations to youboth on an incredible season and
on what we know is to come.
We mentioned a few minutes agothat there's a fundraiser in
effect so we can raise funds toget these guys to Europe and

(14:25):
play in the World Games in Italyand Austria.
You can find that informationon Venmo, paypal or Zelle and
use the link's World GameFundraiser.

them so much for coming by andthank you for nominating them
and bringing them on board withus.

Speaker 2 (14:47):
Well again, caden and Coach Jones, thank you guys so
much for all you've done for ourcommunity, and just I mean
inspiring story, I mean just aninspiring story, and I know the
