From Tragedy to ESPN Triumph with Lauren Sisler EP. 07

In this episode of the Get Over It Podcast, Mickey Bell speaks to Lauren Sisler, an ESPN College Football

reporter, keynote speaker, and author. Lauren began her love of sports as a gymnast while growing up

in Roanoke, Virginia. Her love of gymnastics hasn’t faded, and she speaks to her appreciation for Simone

Biles and the US Olympians.

Lauren attended Rutgers to study sports medicine, but she found herself failing her classes and realized

that she needed to change course. She moved into sports journalism, beginning a career path that

would eventually lead her to ESPN. She found a job reporting in Alabama and became a part of the

intense Alabama college football culture she covered.

Throughout this journey, Lauren dealt with extreme hardship. He parents both died from an overdose

on the same day, completely blindsiding. Lauren’s parents hid their addictions and did not act like

stereotypical addicts. They were extremely involved in Lauren’s life, and there were few signs that the

medicine they were prescribed by their doctors was anything more than normal pain management.

Now, Lauren has a successful career and a family of her own.
