In this episode, Stuart Haskin speaks with Mike Zabarsky, a senior deputy with the Ventura County Sheriff's Department. Mike is also highly involved with the Special Olympics program, and a very respected GET SAFE® trainer.
Mike gives Stuart his back story on how he got interested in helping the Special Olympics and relates how he has utilized his life experience through his involvement, as well as his training, to educate persons working in law enforcement to understand the personality traits of those living with intellectual and/or learning disabilities (IDD). They discuss the importance of the 9-8-8 crisis hotline, and why it is important to make the IDD population aware of its existence. Then Mike and Stuart discuss positive ways to de-escalate your own personal tension in times of extreme stress.
