Hello, my friends,
it is so good to be with you
today.
I'm Ron Myers.
I'm the host of this show.
It is so good to be with youtoday.
I'm Ron Myers.
I'm the host of this show.
It's called Get the Hell Out ofyour Life.
And yes, yes, yes, we all needto keep the hell out of our life
.
God has a plan.
There are places to go, peopleto see, things to do, but we
(00:47):
can't do that with a lot of hellin our life, and that's why
this show is all about faith, freedom and discovering who you
were created to become.
It's all about Jesus, my guests.
They share their stories ofwhat Jesus did in their life and
they offer you encouragement, hope and faith.
What better place to hear fromreal people sharing real
struggles and real hope?
My guest today helped metremendously.
(01:07):
Years ago, I was terminated froma job I absolutely loved.
I was involved in Christianradio for almost 10 years and
one day they closed the doors.
I was devastated, but I raninto Jerry at the gym.
I told him the situation and hesaid, ron, I have something you
need to read.
He gave me a book and, yes, itwas in his gym bag, and the
(01:30):
first words I read.
God is in the business ofplacing us in the right place at
the right time.
Even though it may seem likethe wrong place and the wrong
time, those were true words.
God's divine timing changed mydestiny.
I'll talk more about divinedestiny in the monologue, but
(01:51):
first Jerry's story.
It's a good story, in fact.
He created the title Don't Letthe Shark Eat the Trout.
I know you're going to beencouraged and empowered and
inspired by Jerry Caffey.
Take a listen to ourconversation.
Jerry Caffee (02:06):
Well, we live on
the Gulf Coast and I love the
fish and a trout is a highlyspecialized fish that we love to
fish for here on the coast.
So the video I showed onYouTube was my son catching a
beautiful trout and a big sharkcame up and snagged that trout
and started eating it.
So it was really a surpriseevent, you know.
(02:29):
So I was just sharing about mylife, about what happened with
my interview, with cancer and mysituation and how that came
about.
So that's that's the wholethesis of the shark eating your
trout.
You know, today we have peopleout there that have things.
(02:53):
They're chasing hopes anddreams and then out of the blue
comes a shark or fear, somethingthat just consumes their hopes,
and that's a little bit what itwas about.
Ron Meyers (03:02):
We can be doing
everything just right in life,
and that's a little bit what itwas about.
We can be doing everything justright in life, everything can
be going well, and then, all ofa sudden, a shark comes in to
take away our hopes, our dream,or we get a bad diagnosis.
Isn't that right?
Jerry Caffee (03:17):
Oh, it's so true.
I know a little bit of historyhere.
In the 10th grade of highschool, 40 years ago, I had a
shoulder injury and it waspretty bad.
I was in traction.
I remember the surgeon tellingme when you get to be your 50s,
you're going to have to haveshoulder surgery.
And he was wrong.
It was my 60s.
So I've been living withshoulder pain for 40 years and
(03:38):
you know, just kind of beatthrough it like everybody else.
You don't want to complain, youwant to be the bravado kind of
guy who guts it out.
And uh, and November 3rd I wasscheduled to get a shoulder
replacement.
And uh, I had to get my bloodlabs drawn in my creatinine.
Creatinine levels were high.
(03:59):
I didn't think too much aboutit.
I thought, well, maybe I'm justworking out too hard or, um,
eating too much protein.
Come to find out I have amalignant tumor, or I had a
malignant tumor, three poundsattached to my kidney.
So my nephrologist, rightbefore he, was going to clear me
for shoulder surgery, which was, you know, I really wanted to
(04:19):
get that shoulder surgerybecause it hurt so bad.
I couldn't sleep at night.
The shark in my life was cancer.
And to sit there and hear adoctor tell you you've got
cancer and it's malignant, andit's three pounds or you're
going to lose your kidney, ispretty daunting.
And you know, I just had tostruggle.
I had to lay in bed at night.
Do I have three weeks left tolive?
(04:40):
Do I have three months?
Do I have three years?
Do I have 30 years?
I didn't know.
And your fear comes upon us likea wave.
It's like a massive sharktaking something you prized
possession away.
And I was in a battle and Ilike to say I was full of faith.
But the reality was I struggled, you know, in the middle of the
night, in the wee hours of themorning.
(05:01):
That's when fear would come andI had to learn to push it back.
And although the story has agood ending, I think many of you
viewers out there are facingstruggles and difficulty and
trials and they don't know whatto do.
Well, the end of the story is Ihad a PET-CT scan done last
(05:24):
week and they found no cancer, none at all.
It was totally encased in thethis, you know kidney comes
wrapped in like a shrink wrap.
And uh, the doctor, thenephrologist, told me, you know
it was two millimeters away frommy chest, the size of my whole
body, and he said have you notbeen found out with?
You know, it was prettydaunting, and now I see that,
(05:53):
the thing that I hope for, thefear and the word cancer.
It's just like a consuming sharkand it was scaring the hell out
of me to be honest with you,but I'd like to tell you on your
show's something we want toface up straight up.
(06:16):
You know that God is able todeliver us.
He is able to be a provider.
Many of our friends andcoworkers go through things and
now I have the ability to be alittle more compassionate, have
empathy, have understanding andjust to walk with people.
And, you know, have a tool inmy pocket like a book for you.
We always need to be lookingfor those God type moments,
(06:39):
don't we?
Ron Meyers (06:40):
Yeah, we sure do,
jerry, and I'm so glad to hear
that the cancer isn't there andnow you're going to have some
shoulder surgery.
But you know, jerry, I thinkthis year I've lost more friends
and people this year than Ithink I have in a long time,
whether it be cancer, it beCOVID, it be surprise heart
(07:04):
attacks, and a lot of thesepeople are, you know, 40s and
50s and you know you thinkyou're going to live to be 70
and 80, 90 years old, but thetruth is that I think the Bible
even tells us that we're noteven promised a tomorrow.
So, and when you are kind ofaware that life is so fragile,
(07:27):
you begin to intentionally liveand look for opportunities of
purpose.
Jerry Caffee (07:32):
Well, so true, Ron
.
You know what you're talkingabout is living a life with
purpose.
And having a diagnosis likecancer actually has a benefit.
There's something verystartling and very striking when
you realize you may only havethree weeks left to live, but
three months the reality isnobody gets out alive.
Yeah, and I was at Starbuckstoday and I was going through
(07:57):
the line and I guess I was on myphone and just to show you how
God works in my life, sometimesI was on my phone, I wasn't
paying attention and the personbehind me was a little irate and
they were blowing the horn andI realized it was my fault.
Ron Meyers (08:13):
It was probably me
blowing the horn.
No, no, it probably was.
Jerry Caffee (08:17):
It could be
anybody, it could be me on a bad
day, but you know that happensto us and I wanted to get
aggravated and get mad.
And I heard that quiet voice, because I was in front of them
Go ahead and pay for theirStarbucks, wow.
And so I thought you know, know, I'm going to do that.
(08:38):
So that was for me, that was achoice I made, uh, because you
know life is short and, uh, wejust have these everyday moments
with God.
We have to, we have to choose.
You know, I've done a lot in mylife.
I make a lot of money, I'velost a lot of money, I've had a
successful business, um, I'vedone mission trips all over the
world, but I really think itcomes down to living with
purpose in the quiet moments, inthe detailed moments, in the
(09:01):
slow moments, in the fearfulmoments Sometimes a lot.
When you walk into fear, youknow and you trust God in the
dark wee hours of the morning.
That's maybe your greatest, thegreatest moment of faith we
have.
Ron Meyers (09:15):
Yeah, yeah, so well
put, I agree.
And somebody out there rightnow, jerry, they're so glad they
tuned in because that shark offear has entered their life and
it could be with a spouse with ajob, with money, with finances,
and you're the master fisherman.
(09:35):
Now what do they do?
How do they get rid of thatshark in their life that wants
to take away their dreams andhope?
Jerry Caffee (09:41):
Yeah, scripture
tells us, do not be afraid of
sudden fear, nor be on the sideof the wicked.
And I have to catch myself, because when you get a sudden
fear, your child is lost, yourjob is gone, your cancer is on
you, it comes on and it robs us,it steals our joy.
We're real people, we reallydeal with these things and we
(10:04):
have to gather our wits and say, lord, I bring it to you.
And you have to push back fearand choose faith.
Sometimes what I have to do isjust bathe myself in his
promises.
God is faithful, he's true,he's loving on his son, he cares
for me, he loves me no matterwhat.
He's my great resource, he hasall the resources I need, he's
(10:29):
my provider, nothing'simpossible with him.
And just on and on, and on andon, till my spirit catches up
with my spirit.
That's dealing with fear.
Ron Meyers (10:38):
And then we do have
to put on the faith of christ
yeah, even though sometimes itmay be a little dark in front of
us, to hold on, have faith.
There is light at the end ofthe tunnel and, yes, with god,
it is going to be okay you know,I have one thing to that it's
(10:59):
going to be okay.
It's what I've learned is it'sgoing to be okay, and if it's
not okay, it's still okay andit's important in this time, in
this time in this world, thatpeople really have that
relationship with God.
Jerry, I don't know how peoplethat have no faith and no belief
(11:24):
in God, I don't know how theyget through each day.
Jerry Caffee (11:30):
Well, we weren't
made to be lone wolves.
God designed the body of Christ.
When I first posted aboutcancer, I had so many people
reach out to me, people I hadn'theard from 40 and 50 years, and
they ministered to me and Ibegan to recognize the face of
God through people.
And you know, people often saybecause I love to fish and I
(11:51):
love to be on the water and Ilove to wave fish, catch trout
and redfish, A lot of my fishingbuddies who are non-believers
say, well, I don't need church,I don't need that, I don't have
to be in church to be alone withGod.
I said but you need the body.
We're not made to walk thisworld alone.
What are you going to do whenyou get cancer?
What are you going to do?
(12:11):
when your baby's in a car wreck.
What are you going to do whenyou hear horrible news?
You need real hands, realpeople, real lives, real
soothing words, and that's howGod operates on us.
He brings the body of Christand I'm so thankful for it.
Sometimes I've gone in thechurch with the hope of Lord.
I just need to be encouragedJust someone to encourage me and
often that happens More oftenthan not it happens.
(12:32):
But what I realize, what Godoften speaks to me, is look,
I've got some people here whoyou need to encourage, and the
encourager becomes encouragedwhen he encourages.
And that's what you're doing, ron, on your radio show.
That's why people are coming, that's why they're listening.
They want hope.
Hope is a powerful thing.
A lot of people it's easy tohave, not easy, but faith is
(12:53):
something that some.
It's possible to have faith andnot have hope.
Uh, just hope is a powerful, powerful, uh, emotion and
feeling and the reality in ourlives.
Ron Meyers (13:06):
You know, Jerry,
somebody asked me Ron, are you
always so optimistic and youhave hope?
I mean, is it real or is itjust a show for people?
And I tell them, no, it's real, because I've been on the other
end.
I know what the alternative iswhen you don't have hope and
when you don't have any optimismin life.
(13:28):
But, Jerry, there was somethingthat happened to me about
probably about six years ago.
It was the word grace and whereI've always heard about grace.
But something hit me one daythat grace is nothing I can do
for myself, but what God can dofor me.
(13:49):
I made a decision, whether itbe a show that I'm doing or a
project, that I turn it all overto God.
Jerry Caffee (14:00):
God tells us not
to labor, but there's one area
he tells us to labor and hetells us to work hard at it, and
it's to labor to enter into hisrest.
And I also thought that was odd, because why do we have to labor
to enter into his rest?
It's because we're not madethat way.
We're made to fix it ourselves.
We want to take care of theproblem, we want to fix the
(14:21):
problem.
And now, with the shouldersurgery and being laid up with
cancer, I've got amultimillion-dollar business I'm
running and I can't run it.
I can't micromanage, I can't bea.
On top of that, I got somecervical myopathy on my neck,
which makes my hand from thesurgery, makes my hand hard to
write, so a lot of the thingsthat I'm used to doing in my own
(14:42):
flesh have been taken away fromme.
Speaker 1 (14:44):
Wow.
Jerry Caffee (14:45):
And you know it's
a but it's a wonderful place of
grace because what I can't do hecan do.
And even today, as we'retalking, I agree with you, ron.
There's some people listeningtoday.
They don't know what to do.
They haven't experienced God'sgrace and his hope, and I
believe today that's the purposeof this podcast is that God
(15:07):
would issue forth hope.
You know, ron, as you're talking, let me just speak this to you
you know you're a wellspring ofhope and encouragement, whether
you hear it back or not.
You'll never know, and that'show God operates.
You know you'll never know theencouragement you give someone
on the radio.
You may never know it untilyou're in heaven.
Matter of fact, I can forgetgood things I've done or good
(15:30):
things you've done, but he saysGod is not unjust as to begin
your work for the saints andthat's so encouraging.
You know you never know who'sdriving today, who's in there, a
mother who's got screaminglittle kids around and just
needs some hope, needs some rest.
You know God's not a respecterof persons.
He doesn't do something goodfor me and not do it for you.
(15:51):
He doesn't take a prejudiceover one person over the next.
He is a God of the impossible.
So if God healed me from cancer, he can heal you.
If God can take me out offinancial dilemma in a
supernatural way, he can do itfor you, and that's happened in
my life.
So you know, in scripturesPsalms says that he is the God
(16:12):
of many deliverances, and Ioften thought it has an S on it.
It's not like deliverance.
He's the God of deliverances.
Many of the afflictions are therighteous, but the Lord
delivers them out of them all.
We have a great God, don't we?
Ron?
Ron Meyers (16:27):
We have a great God.
We have a great God and I wantto thank you for taking time and
visiting with me today and ourlisteners, hey.
Jerry Caffee (16:37):
Ron.
Yes sir, Can I do something?
Can I pray for your viewers oryour listeners today?
Ron Meyers (16:41):
Yes, absolutely.
Jerry Caffee (16:43):
Heavenly Father.
I know that this message goesout to a lot of people, and
right now as we pray.
I know there's a mother whodoesn't know what to do, there's
a husband who doesn't know whatto do, there's a child who's
lost, there's finances that arebeyond recompense, there's taxes
(17:04):
due, there's cancer.
There's a bad report, and wewant to believe your report.
I pray, father, that you wouldminister your great power, that
you would bring hope, like ablanket of hope, around the
hurting today, that you wouldwrap your loving arms so
tenderly and tightly that therecouldn't be any other
(17:25):
explanation but the hand of God.
Thank you that you've deliveredme.
You don't treat me special.
You treat me special becauseI'm your son, but you're willing
to give your gifts to anyonewho's willing to seek you out.
Father, we're so thankful.
We're just like beggars whofound bread and we want to share
.
I pray you'll minister to thesepeople, father, and you'll love
(17:45):
them and show them your love ina tangible way, whether it's
fishing or promotion or whateverthe vernacular they need to
hear it in that you would speakto them today, father.
Bless you, jesus, amen.
Ron Meyers (18:01):

The Journey (18:47):
Have you ever
experienced a quote-unquote
coincidence that seemed just tooperfect to be random?
My name is Mark and this is theJourney.
I believe that God puts peopleand opportunities in our life on
purpose, according to His planfor each of us.
It's happened to me numeroustimes.
I would be praying for anoutcome that I desperately
(19:08):
needed and then, interestingly, the right person or opportunity
just appeared.
The Bible suggests that thesemoments are not accidents but
divine appointments.
Throughout the Bible, we seeone example after another where
God orchestrated the events inthe lives of His people.
Think about young David'sjourney in the Bible.
As a young shepherd, he wassent by his father, jesse, to
(19:30):
bring food to his brothers atthe battlefield 1 Samuel,
chapter 17.
It seemed like a simple errand, but in reality, god was
positioning David for hisgreatest moment defeating the
Philistine giant Goliath.
What appeared to be chance wasin fact, part of God's perfect
plan to elevate David to hisdestiny.
(19:52):
Then, later, god orchestratedthe events of David's life to
place him in the king's court, preparing him for future
leadership.
When we walk with God, nothingin our lives is random.
He is always at work behind thescenes, weaving together
circumstances for his purpose.
What may seem like acoincidence to us is often God's
(20:13):
way of guiding, teaching orblessing us.
Remember that Psalm 37 remindsus the Lord directs the steps of
the godly.
He delights in every detail oftheir lives.
Speaker 1 (20:26):
You're tired of how
you're living.
We'll change it.
You don't like where you'reheaded?
Rearrange it.
You're sick of being let downand you want to turn your life
around.
If you want to start livingright, Get the hell out of your
(20:49):
life, Get the hell out of yourlife.
Ron Meyers (20:54):
Get the hell out of
your life.
Welcome back listeners.
You know there's a saying thatGod places us in the right place
at the right time.
But how often do we findourselves questioning that?
How often do we feel lost, trapped in what seems like the
wrong place at the wrong time?
I'm sure we've all been there, sitting in traffic when we're
(21:17):
late for a meeting, or stuck ina job that feels like a dead end
, watching life pass us by.
At those moments it's easy todoubt, to think that we're on
some path that leads nowhere.
But what if?
Just what if?
This is exactly where we needto be?
(21:38):
I've come to believe that everyexperience, every setback, every
delay is part of a greater plan, one that we may not understand
at the moment.
Think about it Every person wemeet, every challenge we face,
shapes us in ways we can'talways see.
(21:59):
It's in those uncomfortablesituations that we learn
resilience, empathy and strength.
Perhaps God has placed us hereto teach us something we didn't
know we needed to learn, becauseit's all part of the grand
scheme of things, and that isdiscovering your destiny.
(22:22):
Imagine the times when you feltlike giving up, yet somehow you
found the strength to carry on.
Those moments of perseveranceoften lead to the most profound
growth.
It's in the struggle that wediscover who we truly are.
So the next time you findyourself questioning your
(22:45):
circumstances, remember this.
Sometimes the right place mayfeel wrong and the timing might
seem off, but it's in those verymoments that we are being
prepared for something greaterTrust that each twist and turn
is a stepping stone leading youtoward a purpose, a destiny that
(23:10):
is uniquely yours.
A purpose, a destiny that isuniquely yours.
So today, I conclude with thisEmbrace the uncertainty of life,
embrace the journey.
Rest in the finished works ofJesus, because in the grand
tapestry of life, every threadcounts, even the ones that seem
(23:31):
out of place.
If you need something, seem outof God.
Speaker 1 (23:51):
It's not about
earning points by being good.
It ain't about some boringchurch, it's not about working
your way to heaven.
Finding God is not aboutfollowing some group who claims
to be the only way to God.
Jerry Caffee (24:00):
It's not about
being religious.
Speaker 1 (24:01):
It's not about
religion.
It's all about God's only son.
It's all about Jesus.
The Journey (24:06):
It's all about
Jesus.
Speaker 1 (24:12):
It's about Jesus.
Speaker 5 (24:14):
Christ.
Christ Jesus said I am the way,the truth and the life.
No one comes to the father, butby me.
Speaker 1 (24:22):
Well, someday, when I
stand before God and he asks me
why should I let you intoheaven?
The Journey (24:29):
All that's going to
matter is if I knew Jesus or
not, and that's what it's allabout, Ron.
We'll be back in a moment towrap up today's conversation.
We want to encourage you todaywith God's promise to you.
It comes from the book ofJeremiah, chapter 29, verse 11.
For I know the plans I have foryou, declares the Lord.
Plans to prosper you and not toharm you.
(24:52):
Plans to give you hope and thefuture.
That's God's promise to youwhen you choose to commit your
plans and future to him.
Now back to Ron.
Ron Meyers (25:06):
Well, friends, my
time is up and I have thoroughly
enjoyed visiting with you today.
I want to talk to the oneperson out there that is
thinking that, well, life sucks, life is no fun.
People use me, they abuse me,they lied to me and no one
really cares.
Well, let me tell you thisJesus cares and he wants to
invite you to his desert island.
(25:26):
That's right.
It's just you and Jesus.
There's no church, there's nopodcast, there's no radio,
there's no Bible.
It's just you and Jesus cominginto your heart, giving you new
thoughts, new desires, erasingall your sin, giving you total
forgiveness and everlasting life.
And then, friends, you not onlybegin to thrive, you begin to
(25:49):
smile again, you begin to havejoy in your heart.
It's only about Jesus.
Only Jesus can give you whatyou're looking for.
Not a building or adenomination, it's all about
Jesus.
Will you do me a favor and tellyour friends?
