Speaker 2 (00:21):
Hello, my friends,
welcome to another episode of
Get the Hell Out of your Life.
Today we're diving into a topicthat's near and dear to my
heart love, laughter andadventure.
You know, in the book ofProverbs it says a cheerful
heart is good medicine, but acrushed spirit dries up the
bones.
Now I don't know about you, butI'd much rather be filled with
(00:45):
joy than feeling like a dried upsponge.
So get ready to uplift yourspirits as we explore how love
can ignite our hearts.
Laughter can lighten ourburdens, and adventure can take
us to unexpected places.
Let's embrace the joy that lifehas to offer.
So grab your favorite drink, kick back and let's embark on
(01:06):
this journey together.
As you hear from my guest, paulette Piper, the adventure,
the laughter and the fun that'sin her life all because of Jesus
.
Speaker 3 (01:17):
Life has handed me
some funny situations.
It sure has.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
Yeah, and we'll talk
about that, but first tell the
listeners a little bit about you.
Speaker 3 (01:26):
So I was born and
raised in Omaha, Nebraska.
We are Cornhusker fans.
Sorry, SEC, but I was raised.
My father was a teacher.
My mother, a very godly woman, was born and raised in northern
Minnesota and she, when she wasgrowing up, she just begged the
Lord, please don't leave me uphere in this winter barren
(01:49):
country.
So she would not date anyonefrom that region.
She wanted to live somewherewhere there were more than just
one season.
So she met my father in Lincoln, Nebraska, and they married and
lived in Omaha.
So I literally lived in thesame house I was born into until
(02:10):
I got married.
Speaker 2 (02:13):
What brought you down
south your?
Speaker 3 (02:15):
husband.
Yes, so I married thisincredible guy who moves up very
quickly in companies.
He's an aggressive dude, verytalented and very intelligent.
So he moves up very quickly incompanies.
He's an aggressive dude, verytalented and very intelligent,
so he moves up very quickly incompanies.
So once we got married, I thinkwe moved 10 times in 11 years
is what I counted.
10 times in 11 years we movedSome of them were just in the
(02:38):
same city, from one house toanother for lease reasons or
whatever, but other times it waslike our first move was to
Arkansas and then from Arkansaswe moved several times in that
state.
Then we moved to Florida andfrom Florida where we went to
Virginia.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
So you've been
everywhere.
Speaker 3 (02:56):
Oh, yes, and now
you're in Thailand.
And now I'm in Thailand.
Now we are in Thailand.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
What are you doing in
Thailand?
Speaker 3 (03:02):
Okay, so, so our.
So my husband and I becameempty nesters once our kids went
to college and I was takingcare of my father.
He was in his 90s and we hadstarted going on mission trips
to Thailand.
And boy, what a difference.
But what beautiful people.
We just fell in love with theThai people and the Lord began
(03:23):
to press on Doug's heart.
I would like you in Thailand.
I think that you need to comehere and start what we call
Project Paiow, which is plantinga church in Thailand, in
Northern Thailand.
Now, this province, paiowprovince, is up north, and the
people there are people oftribal and hill country and
(03:45):
mountain people, mountaindwellers.
99% of them have never heardthe name of Jesus, 99% of them.
So look at your typicalcongregation in church how many
people?
If you have 200 people, 600people.
Okay, so two out of thosepeople have heard the name of
Jesus.
What would that be like?
Speaker 2 (04:03):
What has been the
response, since you've been
there?
Speaker 3 (04:05):
Okay.
So we are absolutely seeing theLord move.
There are a lot of churches inthe Shanghai province, in
Shanghai itself Christianchurches.
This is a primarily Buddhistcountry.
However, their religion hasbeen animistic and Buddhist and
now we're seeing the influencesof the Hindus, and the Hindus
(04:28):
like to please their gods andthey always just add gods.
They never take any away, sothey're not real interested in
Jesus being the one and only.
They would like to just addJesus.
And it sounds an awful lot likethe way Rome was in its time.
They like to add gods, but wedon't serve just one, but 99% of
(04:52):
the Thai people have not heardthe name of Jesus.
So what I'm seeing now becausewe've gone to Thailand for so
many years on mission tripswe're seeing a big cultural
change.
We're seeing more and morepeople coming to Christ and
we're seeing single members offamilies coming to Christ and it
is creating a bit of a conflictbetween the Buddhists, the
(05:16):
families of Buddhism, and whentheir children become Christians
, there's this cultural thing.
It's like okay, well, how areyou going to take care of me
after life if you're a Christian?
You can't feed me, you can'tfeed my spirit if you become a
Christian.
Speaker 2 (05:33):
So it's creating this
so they have a belief that
after you die, your loved onesfeed the spirit.
Speaker 3 (05:40):
Yes, they have what's
called a spirit house in front
of most houses and they willdaily clean yesterday's food off
.
Mostly daily They'll cleanyesterday's food off.
They'll put new rice out.
If they're having a bigoccasion, they're going to put a
large dish of food out and thena soda sometimes a soda with a
(06:00):
straw coming out of it, so thatthe spirits can drink soda.
Because when we build something, we disrupt the spirits by
moving the ground, so we disruptthe spirits.
We may have angered them, sonow we must appease them.
So they're a very fearful group.
In the northern Thailandthey're a very fearful group of
people.
If anything bad happens, peoplewill generally leave that area
(06:25):
or leave that neighborhoodbecause we've upset the spirits
and so they'll just leave.
Speaker 2 (06:30):
Now, out of all the
hundreds of thousands of people
in the United States.
Why do you think God sent youand Doug to Thailand?
Speaker 3 (06:39):
I will say it's
because that's what we prayed
for when we asked for the Lord'smovement in our life.
When I would pray at night withmy children, I would always end
the prayers with Jesus.
Help us do our part to take thegospel of Jesus to all the
people in all the world, becauseit's the only thing that
(06:59):
matters.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
That's a beautiful
prayer.
Speaker 3 (07:02):
I pray that with my
kids every night, every time
they said, mom, will you comepray with me?
That is the end of the prayerand now look at you.
Speaker 2 (07:09):
you're in Thailand
and now you're over here for
just a couple of weeks.
You raise money and then you'llgo back.
Now is this for everything?
Speaker 3 (07:16):
Yes, doug, and I do
intend to stay there until.
Speaker 2 (07:20):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (07:20):
Yes, yes.
So we moved over there inDecember of 2023.
Our children had all left thehouse and gone to college, so we
sold everything and my fatherhad passed away the year and
gone to college.
So we sold everything and myfather had passed away the year
before.
Speaker 2 (07:33):
So you're really
committed to Jesus, absolutely
100%.
You put your money where yourmouth is.
Speaker 3 (07:38):
With every fiber of
who I am.
This is important.
Speaker 2 (07:42):
Amen.
Well, I've had the pleasure ofknowing you for quite a few
years and been with you forthree years on a mission trip up
in Canada.
For quite a few years and beenwith you for three years on a
mission trip up in Canada and,as I said earlier, you are a
funny person.
You can reach people.
Speaker 3 (07:59):
Do you get to use
your humor over in Thailand?
I do.
It's one of the things that asI'm learning Thai, okay, I'm
like.
Okay, what's the word for afunny person?
Oh, kondolok.
Okay, so I pa.
That means aunt condolok.
So I'm the funny person, yeah,so I try to.
Whenever I hang out with theThai people, I try to have fun
(08:21):
with the kids and we play a lot.
When the Thai kids come to ourhouse to hang out, we're playing
games, we're doing karaoke andwe're eating, because who
doesn't love to eat?
Speaker 2 (08:34):
I can see you doing
that so much.
Oh, yes, it's so much fun.
Speaker 3 (08:38):
It's so much fun and
the kids are enjoying themselves
.
They come over and if it's beenlike a month or so since
they've come over, they will askus in church.
They'll say isn't it time forus to come over?
Are you having a party thisweekend?
And oh, I guess we could Sure.
Okay, yeah.
Speaker 2 (08:58):
I've always been an
admirer of your funniness
because you can always tie theLord into things that you talk
about.
You and I were talking beforewe went on air that it just
seems there's not enough humorand laughing within the
Christian community.
We don't have enough fun.
You are a fun person.
Why do you think it is that weseem to be so many of us
(09:21):
Christians so uptight and wedon't laugh or look at funny
things?
Speaker 3 (09:25):
I'm not sure.
I was raised on Red Skelton andCarol Burnett show and I love
to imitate characters.
Well, give us one.
Speaker 4 (09:37):
Oh, Archie, you can't
do that.
Oh, you would hurt theirfeelings, Archie.
Speaker 3 (09:45):
Yeah, so we all love
Edith, don't we?
We do, we love Edith.
Speaker 2 (09:49):
Who's another?
Now you're on a roll.
What's another one you like, ohgoodness?
So let me say, okay, Edith iscoming in here to tell me about
Jesus.
So how would Edith?
Speaker 3 (10:00):
tell me about Jesus.
Oh, for heaven's sakes, ron,okay.
Speaker 4 (10:04):
Oh, Ron Myers, you
need the Lord.
You need to read Psalms 23.
The Lord will be with you inthe valley and in the high
places.
He will bring you to a spiritand bring you to the lake for
refreshing water.
(10:25):
Oh, God is so good all the timeI don't know that's good,
that's good.
Speaker 2 (10:33):
Oh God is so good all
the time.
I don't know that's good,that's good.
You know there is a proverbthat says laughter is like
medicine, and it really does.
They say it produces endorphinsand it kind of gets us in a
happy mood and I do think weneed some laughter out there,
yeah.
So what's the future?
You're down here to raise money, yes, and you're going to go
back there forever.
Speaker 3 (10:52):
Yes, yes, now we will
be coming back here and there,
family events and so on.
What about your kids?
Are they saying, mom and dad,are you coming back, boy?
That was tough.
That was tough.
That was tough on them.
And there were people who werelike God would never tell you to
leave your kids in a countryand go to the other side of the
world.
There were people who were likeGod would never tell you to
leave your kids in a country andgo to the other side of the
world.
There were people who said thatand we had to just go.
(11:15):
You know what?
You were not involved in thedecision making.
This was a conversation betweenus and God and I caution people
about their judgment when itcomes to people who are doing
the will of the Lord.
If they have had a conversationwith the Lord, who am I, who am
I to tell them otherwise?
That is between them and God.
(11:35):
Now, god will always direct youin a way that aligns with the
gospel and with the things thatalign in the direction of what
the Lord wants from you.
It's going to line upscripturally.
He's never going to tell you togo do something outside your
marriage.
Have a relationship.
That's going to line upscripturally.
He's never going to tell you togo do something outside your
marriage, have a relationship.
That's not godly thinking, that's selfish behavior.
(11:57):
But I always caution people andI caution myself when I may
tend to lead to a judgmentalattitude.
I was not involved in thedecision making between him and
God, between her and God.
That is, them and God.
I am responsible for my ownbehavior.
I am responsible to line upwhat my life does with what the
(12:19):
gospel says and what thetestament of our Lord says.
Speaker 2 (12:24):
Absolutely.
Speaker 3 (12:25):
It's always going to
be scripturally lined up.
Speaker 2 (12:27):
So well put.
Now I know, doug, your husband.
Yes, I played golf with him inCanada.
Is there golf courses inThailand?
Speaker 3 (12:34):
There are.
There really are Some very goodones, some very good ones.
Doug was able to go golfing onetime in Shanghai with another
kid.
I think they went on a collegecampus.
Wow, yes, so there's twocampuses, two college campuses
in Shanghai.
There's Ratchapot Universityand then there's Mefa Luang
(12:55):
campus, and both those areexcellent campuses.
I'm not sure which one hegolfed at, though.
Speaker 2 (13:00):
I do believe I've
told you this before that you
could be a standup comic, youcould be on the stage and make
money, but yet you are giving upyourself, your desires to go
help other people.
What motivates you?
Speaker 3 (13:14):
So when I opened
myself up to the Lord and his
will, doug started getting thefeeling that we needed to go to
Thailand.
And my initial response thefirst time he came back from
Thailand he talked about, oh,how wonderful it was and how
great the people were, and I sawthe pictures on Facebook about
what they were doing with theThai kids and I could see they
were having fun and so on.
(13:34):
But when I picked him up at thechurch off that flight, he said
you have got to go to Thailand, you have got to go.
And I said no way.
No way, buddy.
I have seen all the Rambomovies, I have seen all those
Southeast Asia movies and I amnot going to Southeast Asia.
(13:55):
There is no way.
But over the course of a year Icould see that Doug really meant
this and I was like all right, lord, here's the thing If you
want me to go, you're going tohave to change my heart.
Now, I'm not Pharaoh, I am nota Pharaoh, but you can change my
heart.
I'm giving you permission tochange my heart.
Now.
I'm not Pharaoh, I am not aPharaoh, but you can change my
heart.
I'm giving you permission tochange my heart, and over the
(14:16):
course of a year.
God was like you can do this.
Speaker 5 (14:19):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (14:19):
You can totally do
this, and pretty soon.
I was like, oh well, that's not.
You know, I really was notworried anymore about this 14
hour flight, or 12 hour flight,or eight hour flight, and there
were several of them.
Speaker 2 (14:33):
So what would you
tell someone listening right now
that is really kind of tornbecause they feel that they need
to go somewhere and dosomething for the Lord and
they're just not getting a lotof support from other people.
Speaker 3 (14:47):
I would say don't
listen to them.
I would say don't listen tothem, go, the Lord will carry
you.
If the Lord is with you, he'sgoing to be, he's going to carry
you through it.
And it's not going to be awful,it's not.
It's just not.
Everybody that has had thetrepidatious attitude that I had
, that has gone was like thatwas nothing, that was nothing,
(15:09):
that was great.
That was such a small part ofit.
It's not even worry.
Speaker 2 (15:13):
If people are
listening and say I want to know
more about you and your husband, your ministry maybe even make
a donation.
How could they do that?
Speaker 3 (15:22):
Okay, so
projectpyowcom, we work with a
NTIM, which is Northern ThailandImpact Ministry Team, which is
Northern Thailand ImpactMinistry Team, and NTIM is out
of Birmingham, alabama, butProject Payao is spelled
P-H-A-Y-A-O, project Payao, oryou can go to
(15:44):
wwwpipersintailandcom.
Speaker 2 (15:48):
And they can support
you.
Speaker 3 (15:49):
Yes, absolutely.
Speaker 2 (15:51):
Send you a donation.
Speaker 3 (15:53):
Yes, that'd be great,
and then when we do send out
letters, you'll be gettingupdates.
This last year and a half, wehave been in Thai school five
days a week, from 10 in themorning until 1130 in the
morning, and that's Thai time.
So here that's 10 pm.
So while we're here, we'reactually taking Thai classes at
night, which is proving to be achallenge.
Speaker 2 (16:15):
The title of this
show is called Get the Hell Out
of your Life.
So I want to ask Edith Edith, how do you get the hell out of
your life?
Speaker 4 (16:23):
Oh, you got to get
off of yourself and stop
listening to the flesh.
It's deceitfully, wicked,deceitfully.
So is the flesh flesh.
It's deceitfully, wicked,deceitfully.
So is the flesh.
Speaker 2 (16:35):
There you go, there
you go.
Humor, humor with Jesus, humorwith Paulette Piper, and thank
you.
Thank you for coming by andvisiting with us.
It's always good to see you andDoug, and there's somebody
listening that needs someencouragement.
They're just having a bad day.
Things are not going well intheir life.
(16:55):
Will you, Paulette, encouragethem?
Speaker 3 (16:58):
Yes, I would be
delighted to.
The Lord is with you and theLord loves you.
The Lord cares for you.
The Lord has a plan and apurpose for you, and I know that
some of you are tempted, solet's just pray First,
corinthians 10, 13,.
No temptation has overtaken you, but such as is common to man.
(17:20):
But God is faithful in that hewill provide a way of escape so
that you may be able to endureit.
There is a way out of sin.
There is a way out of sin.
I promise you.
Look for the door, look for theLord, call out to God and he
will provide a way of escape foryou.
I want you to be blessed.
(17:41):
We want you to understand thatour Father, our God, loves you
and he will not let you down.
His will is right, his will isperfect, his will is the way.
Project Payal.
Thank you, ron.
Speaker 2 (18:01):
When I return my epic
road trip to share Jesus.
Speaker 1 (18:06):
You're listening to
Get the Hell Out of your Life
with your host, ron Myers.
Real stories, real strugglesand real hope.
Speaker 7 (18:15):
Life is a gift, a
beautiful blend of love,
laughter and adventure.
My name is Mark and this is theJourney.
Quite often, the troubles inlife can rob us of our joy and
happiness if we allow them to.
But the Apostle Paul reminds usin 2 Corinthians, chapter 4,
that our light and momentarytroubles are achieving for us an
(18:38):
eternal glory that faroutweighs them all Verse 17.
This perspective does not denythe reality of hardship, but it
anchors us in a deeper truthwhat is seen is temporary, but
what is unseen is eternal.
When we pursue love, sharelaughter and embrace adventure,
we are not ignoring life'strials.
(18:59):
We are simply choosing to livein the freedom that comes from
trusting in God.
Our love for God and, moreimportantly, His unwavering love
for us, gives us the courage towalk through this life without
being crushed by its weight.
Trusting in God means we don'thave to carry every burden.
We can let joy find us, even inthe hard places.
(19:21):
We can laugh, not because lifeis easy, but because our hope in
Jesus is secure.
So seek love, because God islove.
Seek laughter, because joy is afruit of the Spirit, and seek
adventure, because faith callsus to walk where we cannot see.
Above all fix your eyes not onthe fleeting troubles of this
(19:44):
world, but on the eternalpromises of God through Jesus
Christ through Jesus Christ.
Speaker 2 (20:33):
Welcome back
listeners.
Get the hell out of your life.
Get the hell out of your life.
Welcome back listeners.
Well, now it's my turn to tellyou about my epic road trip, a
journey that was supposed to beall about sharing Jesus but
quickly turned into a series ofhilarious misadventures.
So here I was, full ofenthusiasm, ready to hit the
(20:55):
road and spread some good news.
I packed my car with everythingI thought I'd need A Bible,
some snacks and a dream.
I mean, who wouldn't want toshare the message of Jesus while
munching on trail mix?
Right, I thought I'd makefriends with strangers across
America.
Turns out I mostly made friendswith gas station snacks.
(21:15):
My first stop Tennessee.
I rolled into a small town andthought this is it.
I'll find someone to share mymessage with.
But as I began talking to folks, I realized I was in the land
of barbecue and sweet tea.
My first conversation wentsomething like this hey there,
have you heard about Jesus?
And they responded sure have, but have you tried our pulled
(21:38):
pork?
Suddenly, I was knee deep inbarbecue sauce and I think I
left with a new appreciation forribs rather than revelations.
Next, I stopped in a little townin Arkansas.
I rolled in excited to spreadthe good news and immediately
found myself at a diner calledHeavenly Bites.
I thought this must be a sign.
(22:00):
I ordered a burger and friesand let me tell you they were
divine, better than anything Icould have imagined.
I left with a full belly but alittle confused.
Was I there to share Jesus orjust indulge in heavenly cuisine
?
I made my way to my destinationin Iowa.
I walked into a church serviceand it was like stepping onto
(22:22):
the set of a reality show.
The choir was singing, peoplewere clapping and I thought this
is the moment I'm going toshare Jesus.
But then someone handed me atambourine and before I knew it
I was shaking it like I wasauditioning for a music video.
Let's just say my rhythm wasmore awkward penguin than gospel
groove.
(22:43):
But here's the twist During allthis chaos, I realized I was
missing the point.
It wasn't about the perfectpitch or the right audience, it
was all about the journey.
One night, after a long day, Ifound myself sitting in my car,
exhausted.
I closed my eyes and justtalked to Jesus like he was my
(23:05):
best friend.
And let me tell you, in thatmoment I felt a connection
deeper than anything I hadexperienced on my trip.
It was like Jesus was saying, ron, you know, I love you, even
if you can't carry a tune orshake a tambourine to save your
life.
And I thought, wow, if he canlove me through all my
(23:25):
misadventures, then I'm doingsomething right.
So while I might not haveconverted the entire country or
started a nationwide revival, Idid learn something invaluable
Sharing Jesus isn't always aboutthe grand gestures or the
perfect sermons.
Sometimes it's just about beingreal, having a laugh and letting
(23:48):
people see the joy of knowinghim, even if that joy comes with
a side of barbecue sauce and afew awkward dance moves.
So here's to the journey, tothe missteps, to the laughter
and the unexpected moments thatlead us to a more personal
relationship with Jesus.
And if you ever need someone toshare a funny story or a plate
(24:12):
of ribs, I'm your person.
How do you get the hell out ofyour life?
Speaker 4 (24:18):
Get on your knees and
cry out to the Lord.
He hears you, right, where youare.
How do you get the hell out ofyour life?
Well, your knees and cry out tothe Lord.
Speaker 2 (24:22):
He hears you, right
where you are, how to get the
hell out of your life?
Well, yeah, replace it withJesus.
We got to be born again, bornof the Spirit, and that's by
trusting Jesus Christ, turningfrom our sins and trusting Jesus
.
Speaker 7 (24:30):
You find out about
this man by the name of Jesus,
who went to the cross and gavehis life so that we will have a
life more abundantly.
And if you can receive thatlove, he will love that hell out
of you.
Speaker 5 (24:43):
You trust in him and
you let him love the hell right
out of you.
Speaker 2 (24:47):
How do you get the
hell out of your life?
Oh gosh, jesus, jesus, jesus.
Speaker 3 (24:50):
Jesus.
Speaker 7 (24:53):
Jesus is the way, the
truth and the life.
No one comes to the Fatherexcept through him.
Speaker 2 (25:01):
I hope today's show
has helped you get the hell out
of your life and as I wrap uptoday's episode, I want to
remind you to lighten up and letthat smile shine.
Life can get heavy, but whenyou know Jesus, it's like having
the ultimate joy booster rightby your side.
So take a moment, breathe andremember.
(25:21):
With Jesus, every day is anopportunity for laughter, love
and adventure.
After all, what could be moreenjoyable than a life filled
with joy, just you and Jesus?
Please help me promote thisshow.
It's called Get the Hell Out ofyour Life, available on all
podcast platforms Until nextweek.
(25:44):
This is Ron Myers, remindingyou that I love you, jesus loves
you, and when you give Jesusyour heart, you not only get the
hell out of your life.
Jesus will lead you to adestiny filled with love,
laughter and adventure.
Give the hell out.
Speaker 1 (26:03):
