Embark on a soul-stirring journey with me, Ron Myers, as we traverse the landscapes of faith and entrepreneurship, guided by the experiences of our remarkable guest, Jesse McBride. After Hurricane Katrina uprooted his life, Jesse didn't just rebuild—he answered a higher call to become a missionary, supporting pastors worldwide. Through his narrative and our conversations, we unearth the joy and challenges of aligning vocation with divine purpose. Together, we dissect the fabric of everyday faith, contrasting the American perspective on illness with that of countries where spiritual sustenance often prevails over medical intervention.

As spring heralds a time of renewal, we reflect on the enduring lessons of service and spirituality post-Hurricane Katrina, where the embrace of human kindness shone brightest amid devastation. The episode is replete with powerful anecdotes, including my own mission work in Belize, that illuminate the transformative impact of literacy and education in experiencing God's word. We delve into Para Ministries' vital role in Latin America, offering guidance and hope to those in spiritual need. Join us in this celebration of faith, where the partnership with Jesus promises not only eternal solace but also fulfillment in the here and now.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
Hello, my friends, it is so good to be with you once
again.
How do you like this springweather?
It's beautiful and it is socolorful.
I think this is my favoritetime of the year.
Also, I do want to give a shoutout to my little kitty cats
outside.

(00:46):
I know they can't hear me, butmaybe they can through the walls
.
But I've got a flood of catsaround my office, but I do leave
food out there for them.
They are so cute, especiallywhen I dangle that little food
in front of them.
I do want to answer a question Ireceived from a listener Am I a

(01:08):
minister?
And if I am, where is my church?
No, I'm not a minister and I donot have a church.
I am a Christian entrepreneur,a businessman, who has just
really lived life by pursuing mydreams, following Jesus and

(01:28):
having a great time in life.
I think we need more Christianbusinessmen, entrepreneurs, to
share their stories, to sharetheir faith, and that's what
this show is all about.
And this week my guest is JesseMcBride.
Now he is a missionary, now heis a minister and he has a

(01:52):
church all over the world, wherever he goes or wherever God
sends him.
And today he's going to sharehis story and you're going to
find out when you listen toJesse's story that he was at a
point in life where he reallydidn't know what he wanted to do
.
He had dabbled in this anddabbled in that, but one day he

(02:14):
received a little prompting, alittle nudge inside that well,
kind of led him to his destiny, and he's going to tell you all
about it.
Jesse, so glad you're in thestudios.
I would call you a awesomemissionary.

Speaker 3 (02:31):
When?
Caveat in that I think we'reall called to be missionaries.
We're all called.
You know, in the GreatCommission I said go and make
disciples, and that wasn't justfor what we call missionaries or
just for pastors.
We're all supposed to in ourgoing live on life, on mission,
and so I would.
I'd say we're all.
We're all real lifemissionaries.
But yeah, so I'm originallyfrom the Washington DC area and

(02:52):
so I was.
I was born in Germany, my dadwas military, I was born in
Germany, my sister was born inWashington state and we were
both delivered by the samedoctor.
There's a lot of people here onthe coast that have been born
in the same hospital, not by thesame doctor, but lived in
Washington DC, right outside ofWashington DC, for about 20
years.
Hurricane Katrina hit.
We came me, my mother, my fatherand sister came down here in

(03:14):
2007 to volunteer.
We all, at different points, felt like the Lord was saying
hey, this is where we, I wantyou to be.
And so we kind of someone Idon't remember who the first
person was said hey, what if wemove down there?
And the someone else said Ithought the same thing, I
thought the same thing, Ithought the same thing and so
say, well, let's pray about it.
We had come down in Februaryand so one one act of wisdom,

(03:36):
discernment, we said let's godown in July just to make sure
that we can survive the heat.
And so we came down again inJuly to volunteer and we said
this this is where God's callingour family.
And so my dad had aconstruction company that I was
working for him at the time hehad two years of work lined up
and Close his business up inNorthern Virginia.
My sister was an architect, mymom was a teacher.

(03:57):
Parents sold their house, soldeverything, moved down here.
We ran a volunteer organizationin Paskas Jan for about a year
and a half and then that closed, closed down and we stayed here.
That idea of you know, findingGod's purpose for us in life, I
just I knew that I wasn't doingwhat God had created me to do.
I also wasn't, I was not livinga full God honoring life for

(04:22):
several years.
But part of that I just knew, like God, I know there's
something.
And so I applied to vet school,I applied to nursing school.
I put all sorts of things.
I thought about military and Iwas able to.
I led a mission trip with thechurch that I was at at the time
and it was during that missiontrip I really felt like I was
starting to put on my heart this, this is what I have for you,

(04:44):
and so kind of ran from that fora while but also was praying
about it.
And there was, through a youth,a youth event here on the coast
.
It was probably the loudestthat I ever felt God, god, speak
to me.
I wasn't an audible voice, butthe Holy Spirit was standing in
the back of the room in a soundbooth looking out over these
youth and the Holy Spirit justput on my heart, said this is it

(05:06):
, this is what I have for you,and I was like what, like no one
in my family had ever been inministry, any of those things,
and so all I had to say.
I Still kind of ran from thatfor a little bit, but thankfully
there were some people in mylife that really spoke into me
and God did a huge change in mylife.
For me, I felt like a step ofobedience in that path was to go

(05:28):
back to seminary.
So I went to seminary and ThenI was a youth pastor for six
years and then also a part-timewith a church development and
missions organization and didboth of those part-time until
2020, went into full-timeMissions and then, a couple
years ago, my wife and I startedour own ministry, and so we

(05:48):
live here on the coast, reallyare my God has really called me
as a pastor to pastors, and sowe do that here on the coast,
but then also internationally.
We go down, mainly right now,to Central America, training
pastors, caring for pastors, raising up leaders, and we have
a team down there that continuesto walk through life with these
pastors and leaders a lot ofpastors are leaving the ministry

(06:12):
because they're just tired inburnout.

Speaker 2 (06:15):
Is that true?

Speaker 3 (06:16):
Absolutely, and the world is just heavy and pastors
are not immune to that and so alot of times pastors we don't
have time to get too much intothe conversation, but just
church oftentimes in the US isbuilt in a way that it's a
pastor doesn't have a lot ofclose relationships with their

(06:37):
people in their church.
Oftentimes the pastor sometimesthere's so much pressure and
expectation on them, on theirkids, that oftentimes a pastor
doesn't feel safe to be able togo to someone and say, hey, I'm
really struggling for that withthis, and not just a sin, that's
with sin.
I'm talking about just anxiety.
You know it, there with Barnaand Lifeway are the kind of the

(06:58):
two leading church researchgroups out there and they've
they've both put out there thatrelease COVID.
The spikes of depression andanxiety and loneliness spiked so
high during COVID for pastorsbecause instantly it injected so
much division within a church.
So for every person in a churchthat felt during COVID the

(07:20):
churches should shut their doorsto truly show love to people.
There was someone else on theother side of the proverbial
aisle that said no, we, if wetruly love Jesus, we'll keep our
doors open.
And a pastor is leading boththose people.
How does a pastor minister tothese people that feel very
strongly on both sides?
And then not to mention all thepolitical and then just the

(07:41):
cultural divisions that we haveand so many times that those
influences come into the churchand pastors have to minister to
all those people and so thatleads to stress or anxiety or
depression.
One of the life way it waseither the Lifeway or Barna
studies it said over the lastyear, have you, over the last
six months, have you thought ofgetting out of ministry?

(08:02):
And they did it in beginning of2020 and 2020, beginning of
2021 and 2021 and 2022.
And each time there was like afour to 8% jump of pastors that
said yes in the last.
in the last six months, I'vethought of getting out of
ministry and the three greatestreasons was loneliness,
political divisions within thechurch and stress.

Speaker 2 (08:27):
I want you to share with the listeners some of the
stories in the success thatyou're having in Belize.

Speaker 3 (08:33):
We're in Belize, in Mexico, and working in Guatemala
, and just just beginning towork in Honduras as well.
It seems like there's a littlemore of an openness in the
church there, and I think partof it is because there's a
there's a hunger there's ahunger for the word of God and
for who Jesus is.
And we've you and I have alreadytalked a lot about this because
for for many of these people, jesus is all they have.

(08:55):
And the reality is, ron, jesusis all I have, jesus is all you
have.
But oftentimes here in the U?
S, when we get sick, what do wedo?
We go to the doctor, or we goto our medicine cabinet or we
whatever.
In some of these third, in someof these countries, what do
they do when they're sick?
They pray, wow, they pray.
And so I'm not discountingmedical science.

(09:16):
God has given doctors in themedical field the wisdom to be
able to help people and thosethings.
But here in the U?
S we are.
So we have so much around us,we have so much to quote,
unquote, fix all our problemsthat oftentimes and I use a term
called sound bite theology, where it's so easy just to take

(09:37):
a sound bite and then build awhole theology or cancel someone
or whatever so when I'm aboutto say it'd be easy to take just
this, but here in the U?
S we don't need Jesus, we don't, because if we have a mental
issue, we just go to this mentalprofessional and again, I'm not
there's no.

Speaker 2 (09:53):
You're bringing up a very good point.

Speaker 3 (09:55):
But if we have a physical health issue, we go to
this doctor.
We have so many specializeddoctors.
There's there's finger doctorsand wrist doctors, and you know
I mean every specific part ofour body.
There's a specific medicalfield for that.
And so when we're sick, we goto this doctor.
When we, you know, when wesomething breaks in our home, we

(10:16):
just get on Amazon or we canjust get it fixed almost
whatever, and if it's not therewithin two days, we freak out
because I pay for Amazon Prime,it should be here within two
days, and so all those things.
I think that even comes withinthe church.
We don't see some of whatreally I believe Jesus wants for
the church, because we're nottruly living in the power of the
Holy Spirit, of the power ofwhat Jesus meant the church to

(10:40):
be so.

Speaker 2 (10:41):
when you went to Belize, were you ever in or with
a group of community down therethat they were hearing about
Jesus from you?

Speaker 3 (10:49):
I'm not sure if I've been in that setting down there
where it's the first timethey've ever heard about Jesus.
I do believe there's been lotsof times where people have said,
wow, I've never heard that andI'm just reading from from
scripture.
And so there have been a lot of, and part of that is to there's
.
There's a biblical literacyproblem, here in the church

(11:10):
certainly, but down there, literally there is a literacy
problem.
So, specifically in Belize, school is mandatory but it costs
.
But the law is that if a familycan't pay that they can't be
denied the education.
But that's up to what we wouldequate as eighth grade.
And so, because there's a lotof poverty there, parents say,

(11:31):
well, if I don't have to pay forschool, why would I pay for
school?
But the?
The issue is that at eighthgrade they have to pay their
balance and full to be able togo to what we would call ninth
grade, and then if parentshaven't been paying for, you
know, 13 years, they'recertainly not going to be able
to suddenly be able to pay forthat.
So I say all that, say there's,there is a.
Actually in Belize there's likean education efficiency past

(11:55):
what we would say in eighthgrade, and so I say there's
there's just not a lot ofengagement with God's word,
literally reading the word, when, when the Holy Spirit just
reveals himself in a real way.
You know, jesus says I am theway, the truth in the life.
And so when someone encountersthat in a way that is new, there
is a joy to that.
It's that that joy of when wefirst believed, and it's that,

(12:18):
that joy that that Jesus came togive us, and it's not it's not
this just a feeling of hey, I'vegot this, but it's a great
realization that I am saved, that I am no, I'm no longer in
bondage to some of these things, that I can walk in that freedom
of of who, of who Christ is andwho he has designed me to be.

Speaker 2 (12:41):
Listeners, if you just tuned in, I'm speaking with
Jesse McBride.
Missionary, you go to Belizeand you're going to Honduras, is
it?

Speaker 3 (12:49):
Right now we're in Belize.
In April we'll be down therefor in Belize, in Mexico, and
then, either the summer or laterthis year, will be in Honduras
and we're also working inGuatemala.

Speaker 2 (12:59):
Now, what's the name of your ministry of?
People want to find out moreabout you.
How can they find out so?

Speaker 3 (13:04):
it's para ministries.
So para is just PA RA.
Para just means in Greek justmeans alongside.
So that's our heart is to comealongside pastors in like
parallel.
And so it's para ministries isthe name of our ministry and
that's that's our desire to comealongside pastors and church
leaders to to be able to behealthy, to be able to know the

(13:31):
Word of God, to teach the Wordof God, to be able to make
disciples and to to be able tobe in their communities and have
an impact that the guys designthem to.

Speaker 2 (13:43):
So now we have you in here, what would you tell
someone out there that'slistening, that isn't really
sure about Jesus or if they wanta relationship with Jesus?

Speaker 3 (13:51):
I think if, if someone's listening right now
and they're not sure about Jesusbut they're listening to that's
this podcast, there's somethingin them that is causing them to
seek Jesus, and I believe God'sWord teaches us that's the Holy
Spirit drawing.
Getting to your question, thereality is is we don't have to
be in a church, we don't have tobe at a revival, we don't have

(14:13):
to be in any specific settingfor the Holy Spirit to draw us,
for Jesus to transform our lives.
And so, whether we're drivingdown the street, whether we're
working out in the yard, whetherwe're in a bar, whether we're
at a strip club, the Holy Spirit, his power, is not limited to a
specific location, a specificpurpose, a specific place.

(14:35):
And so someone that islistening to this, as I don't
know about this whole, thiswhole Jesus thing, just even
even saying that, I think, ispowerful to say Jesus.
I don't know.
I don't Know what that means.
I don't know who you are.
Would you just reveal yourselfto me.

Speaker 2 (14:54):
There you go.

Speaker 3 (14:55):
Would you make yourself known to me, because
Jesus wants to reveal himself tous.
She just wants to make himselfknown, and that's why I say
we're all missionaries.
Is that that could?
So someone right now might belistening in the car and they're
about to walk into a retailstore and that cashier that's

(15:15):
checking them out they might besomeone that has a personal
relationship with Jesus Christand that cashier might just
speak to them in a way thatshows them love, or that Cashier
might just be able to sharesomething that that touches them
in a way that points themcloser to Jesus, and so that
cashier wouldn't say they'remissionary, but they are you

(15:36):
being used by Jesus to ministerto someone so, in other words,
they're expressing Jesus ineverything they do.

Speaker 2 (15:42):
That's right.
When you're doing life withJesus, it's just.
It comes out and that's what Iwant people to get, because we
know a lot of you are Strugglingand it is tough out there, but
there is someone that can takeyour problems and he can begin
showing you how to do life withhim, and that is Jesus and Jesse

(16:02):
.
We're almost out of time.
I would like you to pray forour listeners anyone listening
now and Listener before Jesseprays.
I want you to bring to yourmind something that you're
dealing with in your life.

Speaker 3 (16:15):
Well, thanks for the opportunity and, again, those of
you that are listening, if youare Feeling something and living
for Jesus and the Holy Spiritis much more than a feeling, but
he draws us and oftentimes thatis we're feeling or thinking
something that we've never feltor thought before, and that's
the Holy Spirit Drawing to justpress into that.
And whether you've been hurt bya church or have no church
experience, jesus loves you.

(16:37):
Jesus has a plan for you.
In in Ephesians it says thatthat he created us to do good
works, to to live for him, tolive on purpose for him, to live
on Mission for him, and in thatis freedom, in that is
abundance and in that is onlytrue joy is being found in
living a life that is on missionfor Jesus.

(16:58):
Let's pray, god.
I just thank you for today, lord.
I thank you for thisopportunity, lord, and I Got.
I don't know who's listening,lord, but even if there's just
one person listening right now, god, that just is at the end of
themselves, that is saying Idon't know I hear you saying
this, but I've tried Jesusbefore, I've tried church, I've

(17:19):
tried this and that, and I'vealways been disappointed.
I've been broken, I've beenhurt.
Lord, those things are not ofyou, and so, lord, I just pray.
I pray for spiritual healing, Ipray for relational healing for
anyone that might be listeningright now, god, just that you
would reveal yourself to them injust a mighty and powerful way,

(17:39):
lord, that they might even Justopen your word for the first
time and, just as because it'sliving and breathing that you
would come alive to them, lord, that maybe they would just call
someone.
Maybe, though, they they'llcall up Ron and just say hey, I
don't know what this means, butcan you share more with me, lord
?
Just, whatever that looks like, lord, that is, as someone is
listening right now and Is beingdrawn by your Holy Spirit, or

(18:03):
that they would just press in,they would just press into you,
and they would know that, thatyou love them and that they are
loved, and they are created fora specific purpose, because you
are creator, you are the Godthat created all things and
uphold all things.
Let me just thank you, and so,god, I just I also pray for
those that are listening, thatthat are followers of you, god,

(18:24):
that, lord, that that they wouldnot be content with just going
to church, that they would Justbe seeking you of God.
How do you want to use me in my, in my office, in my family, in
my community?
Lord, just through that, as asyour followers, just here in
Mississippi, on the coast, lord, just live in a way that that
that is on fire for you, that isbeing used by you just, or that

(18:47):
things would happen.
God is as as your people beginto love, begin to live in a way
that is Transformative and justsuch such a powerful way.
So, god, again, I just thankyou for who you are.
I thank you for this ministryand For those that are listening
, lord, that they, you wouldjust draw them to you and pray
these things in your name.

Speaker 2 (19:10):
I want to thank Jesse for sharing his story.
You know, jesse story remindsus that God is in the moving
business.
That's right.
When he wants to move us into anew assignment or to promote us
in life, it begins withprompting.
In other words, our spiritbegins to sense a change is

(19:32):
coming.
Maybe you get a little restless, maybe you can't sleep at night
, but you can't put your fingeron it.
But something is about tochange in your life and that is
God trying to get your attention.
Now, when that happens, you cando one of two things.
You can ignore them,self-medicate yourself and hope
the promptings will go away.

(19:53):
Or you can do the excitingthing, the thing that Jesus
wants you to do, and that is tobe still and listen and know
that God is about to downloadsome awesome assignment in your
life.
Jesse and his family came to theGulf Coast to help us residents
after Hurricane Katrina'sdevastation.

(20:15):
Now, friends, just in case youwere not here, along the Gulf
Coast, it was terrible.
Katrina leveled the entire GulfCoast, from New Orleans to
Mobile, alabama.
Personally, my house had eightfeet of water.
I was also living my dream as aChristian radio station manager
and you know things were goinggood until Katrina and then all

(20:37):
of a sudden I had to balance mylife with rebuilding my house
and the radio station.
But the radio station wasawesome because we had radio
station personnel all over theGulf Coast, helping, praying,
dropping off supplies, and eachafternoon I had the pleasure to
interview individuals who cameto the coast to help us.

(21:00):
When I say they came, they camefrom the north, the south, the
east and the west.
But here's something I reallywant to share with you today Two
incredible life lessons Ilearned from these wonderful
people that came here to help us.
One was they were at home, minding their own business,

(21:20):
doing live as a family would dolife.
They saw the news and theycould feel the promptings.
Go to the Gulf Coast.
People need help and most ofall they need love and friends.
They came and they came andthank God they came with love,

(21:44):
supplies and compassion.
The other lesson was theunexpected blessings of the
volunteers.
They said they just listened aspeople told them what happened
to them during Katrina.
They said, ron, we neverexpected to be so blessed by
people who lost everything.

(22:05):
We came here to minister tothem and they are ministering to
us.
It caused many of them, justlike Jesse and his family, to
pick up and move to the GulfCoast forever.
Friends, what they describedwere the fruits of living life

(22:28):
with Jesus, because when you aredoing life with Jesus, not only
do you understand thepromptings, but the promptings
will always be love, kindness, compassion, the fruits of the
spirit.
That's the way you want to dolife.
That's where life is fun andrewarding.
So now, today, what about you?

(22:50):
Do you feel something stirringwithin your spirit?
Perhaps a change is on the way.
Maybe God is ready to downloada brand new assignment, a new
direction into your life.
Have you been praying for achange?
Are you looking for a change?

(23:11):
Then I suggest to do what I do.
I take some quiet time, I getalone and then I have my daily
conversation with Jesus and I'mopen, I'm honest and I'm
transparent.
See, that's what Jesus needsfrom us An open, willing heart

(23:31):
to listen Someone that doesn'tknow all the answers.
And then I listen to the Spirit.
I'll read in the Bible, I'll dowhatever it takes to hear, and
when you hear from God and theprompting, friends, it does
something.
I call it the fountain of youthbecause it just ignites a

(23:51):
passion inside of you that youare going to pursue.
Jesse's story today is areminder that the promptings and
the stirrings that we mayreceive from God when he wants
to move or promote us cannot betaken lightly.
His story also highlights theimportance of helping and

(24:12):
supporting others, especially myfriend, in times of need.
Today can be the best day ofyour life if you're willing to
trust Jesus.
That's right, trust thefinished work of Jesus.
He did it all on the cross soyou and I can have fellowship,

(24:34):
forgiveness and faith in him24-7.
Simply call upon the name ofJesus and invite him into your
heart and you will get the hellout of your life.

I would not even be here if it wasn't for the good
Lord and, yes, he wants you, your business, your marriage, he
wants everything you do to besuccessful.
God is a God of success and Godhas planned for you to have
success in life when you do lifewith Jesus.

(26:20):
Why is that so important?
I am so glad you asked becauseif God designed you, jesus knows
you like every bit of theblueprint that's in your DNA.
Well then, doesn't it makesense that if you want success
in your marriage, in your family, in your business, in your

(26:42):
personal relationships, well, goto the Creator, the one that
has the blueprint, the one thattruly knows every doubt, every
fear, every joy, everythingabout you.
It's you and Jesus.
Period.
That's the recipe for abeautiful, wonderful life.
