Scotty McLeod's powerful testimony unfolds like a masterclass in divine redemption. From the depths of addiction and homelessness to leading a ministry that transforms lives, his journey demonstrates how rock bottom can become the foundation for extraordinary purpose.

Growing up with a legacy of Southern Baptist preachers, Scotty's early commitment to faith at age ten eventually gave way to years of substance abuse and homelessness. It was only when he completely surrendered that everything changed. "There was hell in my life that just kept piling up until finally I gave up," Scotty shares with disarming honesty, "and when I did, it was the greatest thing that could have possibly happened."

Following his father's passing—who remarkably recorded his own funeral message from inside a coffin before his death—Scotty stepped into leadership at Our Father's Arms ministry in Jacksonville, Alabama. The transition wasn't without challenges. Operating without fundraisers or direct solicitation, the ministry relies entirely on divine provision, something that tested Scotty's faith early on when resources temporarily disappeared before God miraculously supplied exactly what was needed.

The heart of Scotty's work lies in restoration. He recounts the moving story of finding a jaundiced, emaciated man living in a shed who had been rejected by his family due to addiction. After bringing him to the ministry and witnessing his physical recovery, Scotty orchestrated a surprise reunion between this man and his estranged daughter. Two years later, they speak daily—a testament to God's healing power.

What makes Scotty's perspective so compelling is his belief that our greatest struggles can become our greatest testimony. "God takes the cross and makes it a plus," he explains. "When bad things happen to us, if they bring us back to God, then they're the greatest thing that ever could have happened."

Ready to experience transformation in your own life? Scotty offers this simple yet profound advice: "Surrender all that you have, all that you are, and all that you hope to be into the arms of our loving Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ."

Hello my friends, it is so good to be with you today
.
Another inspirational show foryou.
Scotty McLeod joins me fromAlabama and friends, what a
story.
You're going to be encouraged, empowered and inspired.

(00:47):
Scotty told me something that Ilove God takes the cross and
makes it a plus, fromhomelessness and addiction to
running a ministry thattransforms lives.
Scotty McLeod, his journeyshows how rock bottom can become
the foundation for anextraordinary life of service.
Scotty McLeod, thank you fortaking time to share your story
with the listeners.
So, scotty, what's your?

Scotty McLeod (01:08):
When I .
As I grew a little older, Igave my life 10 years old, I
gave my heart to Jesus.
I was young.
I got off the path.
So I come from a long line ofpreachers.
Actually they were all SouthernBaptists, and until my dad, who
was a Baptist, too, Baptist buthe went off in a little bit of

(01:29):
a different direction.
But there and I got into theworld, I got to doing drugs,
drinking, and at one time Iended up homeless and I was on
bottom and there was hell in mylife and that hell just kept
piling up and piling up andpiling up until finally I gave
up and surrendered and when Idid it was the greatest thing

(01:51):
could have possibly happened.
So my dad had started aministry the name of the
ministry is Broken StoneMinistries and there's been a
lot of shoot offs from that andone of those is called Our
Father's Arms and we have twohomes for men and we have a free
medical clinic located inJacksonville, alabama, and my
dad was building all this up,ended up with a music hall, had

(02:15):
Christian artists on there.
It's called Duggar MountainMusic Hall.
It played public television andactually like 80 stations
across the world, and it's justbeen one thing after another.
How God has blessed this andkept it all going.
So in the back of my mind.
Even when I was living wild andin my sin, I knew God had a

(02:36):
plan.
So I found out my dad had ananeurysm and they said it was
inoperable.
So I started going to churchwith him and then God just
started working on me, a littlebit at a time, and when I'd go
to family dinner I'd saysomething about Jesus and I'd
say, daddy, turn and look at me,say, daddy knew he was about to
pass and I had told myself that, ah, he could have had this for

(03:00):
years, you know.
But daddy knew better than that.
And he comes to my house and hebrings me his Bible and my
granddad's Bible and I thought,well, that's cool, you know.
And then he leaves and within aweek he had a stroke and passed
preaching a graveside service.
He went down right there besidethe grave while he was
consoling the family and I wasthinking, wow, that's amazing,

(03:23):
you know that God would allowhim to go serving.
And I was thinking, wow, that'samazing, you know that God
would allow him to go serving.
And I was sitting.
It was hard on me, you know.
The first week or two I was in afog and then it dawned on me
that daddy had told me 15 yearsbefore that that when he passed
a friend of his in Tennessee hadsome stuff for me.
So I got in touch with a friendin Tennessee and I drove up

(03:46):
there and the friend gave me abunch of teaching tapes,
teaching CDs and tapes, and hegave me a DVD.
And I wasn't sure what the DVDwas, but when I got back I put
it in the DVD player.
And there's a little funeralhome close to here.
It's called KL Brown's FuneralHome and daddy would always
preach funerals for people thatdidn't have money.

(04:07):
They could always call daddyand he would come in there and
do it.
So all of a sudden the cameracomes in the front door at KL
Brown and there's this musicplaying like funeral music.
The camera comes in and it goesto the coffin and a preacher in
a suit opens the coffin andthen daddy sits up in the coffin
and a preacher in a suit opensthe coffin and then daddy sits
up in the coffin and startstalking about how awesome it is

(04:28):
to be in heaven.

Ron Meyers (04:29):
Wow, well, I bet you did.
I bet you did a little two-step, you'll.
You see that on the dvd and yousee your dad pop up out of a
coffin I did did.

Scotty McLeod (04:44):
At first I started crying and then I
started shouting, you know, andwe ended up playing that it is
Celebration of Life and whenthey first opened it was during
COVID, but there was a lot ofpeople there.
When the coffin first opened, everybody went ah.
But then, when he smiled andstarted talking about heaven,
everybody started cheering andit was amazing and I know he

(05:05):
hadn't gone too far.

Ron Meyers (05:07):
What did he tell the audience about heaven?

Scotty McLeod (05:10):
As always, we try to keep our focus completely on
Jesus.
He just started talking abouthow great it is We'll see
everybody again, and he had asong called Christians Never Say
Goodbye.
Just so long, for a littlewhile, and he was quoting that
song and just talking about thelove of Jesus.
And you know, 1 Corinthians 13,8 tells us love never fails and

(05:34):
that's just the motto he livedby and that's the motto we're
living by Now.
Sometimes I think he's stillhere with us.
You know, I started going to thejuvenile detention center close
to here and playing and singingsongs for the kids down there
and daddy had went down thereand done it years ago and they
called us in at Christmas andthey were going to give us this

(05:56):
little award and certificate.
You know, and it was all theday I go, at night and all the
daytime.
People were the ones giving outthe certificates.
So I'm sitting there andthey're calling people were the
ones giving out the certificates.
So I'm sitting there andthey're calling people up and
they're asking their name.
You know, they're calling thename out and the person goes up
and gets their award and theycall my dad's name out and I
look at my friend and my friendlooks at me and they call

(06:16):
daddy's name out again and I goget his award.
You know it's those little Godblinks.
You know God talks to you andif you're looking, you know it's
those little God blinks.
You know God talks to you andif you're looking you can hear
it?

Ron Meyers (06:25):
He sure does.
So you've picked up the mantleof his legacy of, in my Father's
Arms, your ministry.
So you're running the show now, right?

Scotty McLeod (06:35):
I'm one of them, my mother and my cousin.
There's several of us that workwith the ministry and, you know
, through the years there's beena constant flow of healthy
community coming through to workwith the guys, the guys who
have either been in prison or ondrugs or on the street.
And God just keeps sending theright people at the right time
and it's just amazing to watchwhat he does.

(06:57):
You know, we've never had afundraiser or asked for money at
all, wow.
And God's just kept supplyingthe money and the funds to keep
it going and he can close itdown anytime he wants to.
You know, we're not a it's notlike we're out trying to make
money or anything like that, matter of fact.
We're all most of us arevolunteers, but he just keeps
supplying the funds.

(07:19):
You know, when I first took overthe part I'm taking, I took
over I was praying to God and Iwas thinking, lord, do you want
to keep it going without Daddyhere?
And I was nervous and I wasfearful, and that fear will,
it'll, completely mess you up.
So the first thing God did, Iasked him for a sign and the
first thing he did was he,almost immediately he pulled

(07:41):
some resources from us and I wasthinking, lord, do you want to
shut it down?
But in my heart I knew hedidn't.
And then I went and played andsang up in Tennessee at a
retreat and when I got back fromthe retreat there was enough
money to keep it going for a fewmore months.
So it was just God put it onsomebody's heart and there it
was.

Ron Meyers (08:00):
Wow, god's never late and he's never early.
But he's always on time, isn'the?
That's right, god's never lateand he's never early, but he's
always on time, isn't he?

Scotty McLeod (08:05):
That's right.
It's an uncomfortable piece.
You know you got to trust himand if you trust him you can
walk in peace and joy.
But if you're trusting inyourself, it's never going to
work.

Ron Meyers (08:21):
Well, scotty, it is obvious your love, the calling
on your life to love the hellout of other people.
It is contagious Right now.
We have a lot of strugglingpeople in this world, don't we?

Scotty McLeod (08:30):
It's amazing how many there are.
You know used to back in the90s, when we first started the
men's homes, you know there waspeople that had problems and
there were people that werestruggling, but now it has
touched every family.
Like every family you talk to,there has been a member of that
family that has suffered onaccount of drugs or you know

(08:52):
different reasons.
And God came and he said hey,you know, I'll bless you, even
despite what you've been throughor whatever you've done, it
does not matter, I love you andI came to make a way for you.
And, man, when somebody gets agrasp of that how much Jesus
loves them, it turns everythingaround.

Ron Meyers (09:11):
And I'm sure you've seen so many stories and
people's lives change.
Can you give an example ofmaybe one of your favorite?
I know they're all yourfavorite, but is there one that
really stands out of somebodythat just went from a lot of
hell in their life to you know?
Whatever?

Scotty McLeod (09:28):
Yes, sir, I'll tell you back.
You know, in the very beginningI was telling myself you know,
well, maybe God doesn't want meto do this.
You know how the enemy willsend out.
And a fellow walked up to myhouse on foot and he was yellow

(09:48):
and I had met him years before,25 years before, and he was a
stocky guy and he was shriveledup to nothing, he was yellow,
His eyes were yellow, he wasjaundiced, and he asked me for a
ride and I gave him a ride andI went home and I was praying
about it and I felt like God wastelling me that I was going to
see this fellow again.
So I was coming home, a way.
I do not usually come home, maybe a month later, and I come

(10:08):
around the curve and there'sthat guy standing on the side of
the road and I stopped and Isaid are you doing okay, man?
And he said no.
And I said do you need a ride?
And he said I do.
And he got in the car and Istarted taking him to town,
wherever it was.
He told me he wanted to go andI asked him.

(10:31):
I said, friend, have you everdecided to try to get help or
have you ever wanted to get help.
And he started crying and hesaid if I only had a chance.
And I said well, God can giveyou a chance Would you consider
coming and staying with us atour father's arms?
And he teared up and he said, please.
And I took him back to thelawnmower shed.
He had been living in thelawnmower shed, didn't have
power, there was just a bunch ofjunk in there.

(10:51):
We got what little bit he had.
We took him out to our father'sarms.
He was telling me about how hiskids told him, told him they
didn't want anything to do withhim anymore.
Come to find out, my wife hadtaught his daughter in Sunday
school and knew her.
So this is amazing.
This is amazing.
So I go to the house one dayand I say, hey, man, you want to

(11:14):
go ride with me to my house?
And he's like sure.
But what I didn't tell him wasthat his daughter knew how good
he'd been doing and how he putsome weight back on and his
color had come back.
And we were riding back to myhouse and I seen her van, his
daughter's van, sitting at thehouse.
My wife had lined it up whereshe was, at our house and she

(11:35):
was waiting on him to come andsee her, but I didn't tell him
that what was about to happen.
So we get to the house.
I got a split level house.
He walks up the stairs.
They see each other and theyrun and hug each other and start
crying.
That's been over two years agoand they're on the phone 30
minutes to an hour every day.
I mean, that's what God does.

(11:55):
He restores families.

Ron Meyers (11:57):
You know I just get goosebumps when you say that
story.
You know, obviously you are theman to take over what your
father has done.
You have a love and a passionthat I can just hear it in your
voice, Scotty, and somebodyright now is listening and can
relate to the story you justtold, but they have no hope.

(12:17):
They don't think it can everhappen to them.
Would you give that listenersome hope right now?

Scotty McLeod (12:22):
God is bigger than.
God is bigger than the Big bang.
He's bigger than the big bomb.
He's bigger than all ourproblems.
God is bigger than and you justgot to let him love you.
Get yourself out of the way.
It never was about us anyway.
It's about him.
And when we surrender ourkingdom over to him and we start

(12:45):
living in his kingdom, then hestarts speaking to us and our
life starts transforming and webecome a light to other people.
We're no longer in darkness andhe just loves us.
He loves the hell out of us.

Ron Meyers (12:59):
He sure does.
He sure does, scotty, and whileyou are, I am excited about
your ministry.
I'm excited that I have thepleasure, the honor to talk to
someone like you that is in thetrenches and you've learned from
a legacy of grandfathers, fathers, and your mom and all
these people around you, and youjust love the hell out of

(13:19):
people.
And isn't that all Jesus wantsus to do?
Because, if was it, love bringsa person to repentance.
It's the love that draws peopleto Christ.

Scotty McLeod (13:29):
Yes, sir, and actually you know you have to be
attitudes.
Blessed are the poor in spirit,Blessed are the poor.
Blessed are those when theymourn and it turns everything
the world thinks upside down.
So God uses the bad.
He takes the cross and he makesit a plus.
He takes the cross and he makesit a plus.
He takes a minus and he makesit a plus.
When bad things happen to us,if they bring us back to God,

(13:53):
then they're the greatest thingthat ever could have happened to
us.
I never would have made it.
I had to go through all that, the drugs, the jail, you know.
I had to go through that to beable to get to a point to where
I was willing to surrender toGod.
Those bad things can be good.
He uses them for the good.

(14:15):
Romans 8, 28.

Ron Meyers (14:16):
Yeah, he sure does.
For the listeners out there, tell them how they could find
some information about OurFather's Arms.

Scotty McLeod (14:24):
Our Father's Arms is in Jacksonville, alabama.
We're on Facebook.
We're actually.
We have a website that we'regoing to be updating pretty soon
.
Or you can write us at 45Pinewood Street, jacksonville,
alabama, 36265.
Or you can write us at 389Dogwood Lane, jacksonville,
alabama, 36265.

Ron Meyers (14:46):
That's amazing, and it made me think that there
might be somebody out there nowthat just wants to send a card
or some encouragement to some ofthe folks that are there, and
I'm sure you would love to havethings like that right Amen.

Scotty McLeod (15:00):
Well, that'd be wonderful.

Ron Meyers (15:01):
Hey, scotty, tell us about your international
ministry.
You are doing work all over theworld.

Scotty McLeod (15:07):
Yes, there's a preacher from Southampton,
england, named Vic Jacobson andback in the 80s when my dad
first turned his life around, vic was coming to this little
country church once a year bythe house and daddy was fired up
for Jesus, you know.
So he started calling Vic longdistance over in England and Vic
was kind of his mentor andanyway, you know, daddy wrote

(15:30):
these songs and daddy's songshave played in England, ukraine.
But Vic and Daddy's friendshipblossomed and Vic ran a ministry
out of Ukraine and Englandcalled Hope.
Now, well, vic knows all thesepeople in Ukraine, so Daddy
starts going over there andsharing and ministering to the
people in Ukraine and him andVic started working together.

(15:52):
So when Daddy passed away, vicand him and Vic started working
together.
So when Daddy passed away, viccalled me and Vic became my
mentor and we've ended up goingto visit Ukraine before the war,
visiting the orphanages there, and now we raise money to send
the families of wounded soldiersand we still have a little

(16:13):
church here by the house.
They helped build a church inUkraine, cherkassy, ukraine, and
we just got stuff going allover God's hand's all in it.

Ron Meyers (16:20):
God's on the move, Scotty.
The name of the show is Get theHell Out of your Life, and I
want to ask you how do you getthe hell out of your life?

Scotty McLeod (16:30):
By surrendering all that you have, all that you
are and all that you hope to beinto the arms of our loving Lord
and Savior, jesus Christ.

Ron Meyers (16:40):
Amen.
Now, as we conclude ourconversation, would you close us
out in a prayer to thelisteners listening?

Scotty McLeod (16:48):
Yes, sir, I would , Lord, thank you for all you've
done for us.
Thank you for loving us inspite of all we've done.
Thank you for loving us inspite of the sin that's in us.
Lord, Thank you for loving thehell out of us.
Lord, we thank you, we love youand we praise you In Jesus'
name, amen.

Ron Meyers (17:12):
When I return my commentary.
Jesus wants his reputation back.

Speaker 1 (17:18):
You're listening to Get the Hell Out of your Life
with your host, ron Myers.
Real stories, real strugglesand real hope.

Speaker 4 (17:27):
Get the hell out of your life with Ron Myers.

Ron Meyers (17:31):
I think there are a lot of people that are sitting
in churches right now, or maybesitting in coffee shops, that
have a story to tell of whatGod's done in their life, but
they're never going to get thepulpit, they're never going to
get a microphone, they're nevergoing to get an opportunity to
share their story with the world.
Well, that's where we come in.
We will interview these peopleand we will have the platform in

(17:54):
place and share their story infilm and in written material
across the world.
And so I got pills that wereonce again laced with fentanyl
and Xanax and I blacked outwhile I was driving my truck
down the interstate.

Scotty McLeod (18:08):
I've seen so many people that have been set free.

Speaker 5 (18:09):
You know that's just surrendered, you know,
surrendered to God, God's way,God's direction.
Life with Jesus is better thanwhat I could have ever expected
it to be.

Ron Meyers (18:21):
You know I have peace.
We will be a voice for thesilent that say hey, let me tell
my story of what God's done forme.

Speaker 4 (18:33):
Let me tell my story of what God's done for me.
Listen to other episodes ofthis podcast at thepromoterorg
or wherever you get yourpodcasts.

Speaker 6 (18:43):
Here's a refreshing word for you today from
Galatians, chapter 2, 20.
I have been crucified withChrist and I no longer live, but
Christ lives in me, the life Ilive in the body.
I live by faith in the Son ofGod, who loved me and gave
himself for me.
Jesus wants his reputation back.

Ron Meyers (19:29):
That is the title of my commentary today.
Reputation Back.
That is the title of mycommentary today.
I once told an atheist that Ibelieve you are an atheist
because nobody has really evertold you about the true
character and nature of Jesus, and he said that could be true.
You see, friends, we live in aworld where Jesus is often
misrepresented and the truthabout what he did on the cross

(19:50):
is distorted.
So Jesus wants his reputationback.
At the heart of Jesus' missionwas the intention to reveal the
nature of God as a loving, relational and gracious God.
The cross stands as theultimate testament to this truth
, a symbol of sacrifice thattranscends human understanding.
Yet in many circles, thismessage has been overshadowed by

(20:14):
legalism, fear and a portrayalof Jesus as an angry judge
rather than a loving,compassionate Savior.
This misrepresentation distortsthe beauty, the awesome beauty,
of the gospel and createsbarriers that prevent
individuals from experiencingthe fullness of his love.
Jesus does not want us to livein guilt or shame.

(20:37):
Rather, he invites us into arelationship marked by his
extravagant grace and freedom.
His finished work on the crosssignifies that the debt of sin
has been paid, offering us apathway to reconciliation with
God and to suggest that Jesus ismad at us is to undermine the
very essence of his sacrificeand the depth of his love.

(20:59):
Instead, we are encouraged tosee him as the one who embraces
us in our brokenness, offeringrestoration and hope.
This intimate relationship thatJesus desires with each of us is
characterized by trust andvulnerability.
He longs for us to approach himnot as distant subjects bound

(21:20):
by rules, but as belovedchildren, welcomed into his
presence, inviting us to shareour hearts with him, to seek his
guidance and to experience theunspeakable joy of walking in
fellowship with him.
This relationship is not Irepeat, is not contingent upon

(21:43):
our performance, but is rootedin his grace, which is
sufficient for all our needs.
As we reflect on what it meansfor Jesus to reclaim his
reputation, we are called toembody his love in our actions
and interactions.
We must strive to communicatethe truth of the gospel with
clarity and compassion, ensuringthat those around us see the

(22:06):
Jesus who loves unconditionallyand desires a personal
relationship with them.
This means breaking down thebarriers of judgment and
condemnation that have beenerected in his name and
replacing them with the messagesof hope, forgiveness,
acceptance and grace.
So, in conclusion, today I wantyou to think about this Jesus

(22:30):
wants his reputation back, notas a distant deity demanding
perfection, but as a lovingSavior who will meet you where
you are, and he invites you eachand every day into a
transformative relationship.
He wants us to understand thatwe are not defined by our
failures or shortcomings, but byhis unfailing love and grace.

(22:55):
So let's embrace this truth andshare it with the world,
allowing the true character ofJesus to shine brightly through
our lives.
In doing so, we not only honorhis sacrifice, but also invite
others to experience the freedomand intimacy that come from
knowing him.

(23:15):
And when we let our shine inthis dark world and we tell
people why we have the hope inus that is playing our part in
helping to restore thereputation of Jesus.

Speaker 7 (23:30):
Jesus, Jesus, what do you think of when you hear that
name?
Jesus, Jesus, love, life, hope, joy, peace, friend, companion,
confidant, savior.
The God of the universe lives, and he lives in the form of a

(23:52):
man.
That man is Jesus Christ, ForGod so loved the world that he
gave his only son that whosoeverbelieves in him shall have
eternal life.
Jesus, what will you do withhim?
He knocks on the door of yourheart.
When you open that door, yourlife will change forever.

(24:14):
It came that the world may havelife and may have it more
abundantly.
Ask Jesus into your heart anddiscover what living is all
about.
