and offering real hope.
Today's show will encourage, inspire and empower you to face
life's challenges with a boldconfidence and renewed hope.
Now let's join our host, ronMyers.
The promoter.

Ron Meyers (00:21):
Hello, my friends, it's so good to be with you
today.
Have you felt my prayers foryou?
That's right.
Every time I think about it, Ipray for my listeners because
this journey you and I are on,we have a lot more in common
than you probably realize.
And if you can hear stories, and I can share stories of
people that overcame strugglesand now walk with a peace, a

(00:46):
purpose and a passion, I have toshare that with you because you
deserve to have the very bestlife that God has created for
you.
But you know one thing thatgets in the way a lot is our
past.
Have you ever been guilty oryou felt shameful for things
that you did in the past?
You don't do them anymore.
In fact, maybe you follow Jesus, but yet the past just seems to

(01:07):
haunt you.
Well, today we are going to setsomeone free from their past.
Maybe it's you.
I met Michelle inside myChristmas City gift show.
She was one of my vendors.
She had a glow about her faceand after the Sunday morning
church service, her and I had aconversation and wow, she has a
story that you need to hear, especially if some of the

(01:29):
battles are the shame and guiltfrom your past and later the
monologue.
I want to help you rid thatshame and guilt that you may
carry with you and enjoy thelife that Jesus has waiting for
you a good life.
But first let's take a listento my conversation with Michelle
.
Well, michelle, I met you atChristmas City.

(01:50):
You were one of my vendors.
I could tell something aboutyou.
You have a friend named Jesus, don't you?

Michelle Fulkerson (01:57):
I do, I do, and it seems like the more.

Ron Meyers (01:58):
I got to talk to you and hear some of your story and
it seems like the more I got totalk to you and hear some of
your story, you told mesomething that somebody told you
one time that you need to openthe door to your future.

Michelle Fulkerson (02:14):
We were at a prayer meeting and I was there
with a lady named Cherie, who isactually the director of the
National Day of Prayer, and Iwas sitting on the side and she
was praying and the Holy Spiritjust came over her and she came
behind me and just wrapped herarms around me and she had me
stand in the center of thecircle and she said it's such a

(02:37):
beautiful prayer.
And she just said, michelle, the Holy Spirit just told me
that you have got to let go ofyour past.
You've got to let go of yourpast.
You've got to let go of yourpast.
You are forgiven.
You are so forgiven.
He has paid the price for you.
And she took off.
She had the most beautiful andI have it framed beautiful key.
It's adorned with rhinestones.

(02:59):
She took it off of her neck, she placed it over me and she
had me physically turn aroundand she said we are locking the
door to your path.
We are closing.
We are closing that door.
You are not to go back to yourpast.
You have been forgiven all ofyour sin, all of your shame, all
of your guilt.
It's all behind you.

(03:20):
And then she took her hand andas she prayed over me, she
turned me and faced the otherway and she said we are now
opening your door to your future.
And it was the most beautiful, beautiful moment.
And you know, and it justshowed me.
You know, I think sometimes wepray for forgiveness and we're

(03:41):
like, ok, we're forgiven, butthe enemy can be so loud and he
can attack any day, any givenmoment, sometimes during your
best moments, that you thinkyou're going forward.
And then that enemy, but shetold me.
She said I want you to keepthis key and it had been given
by somebody that loved herdearly.

(04:03):
And it is beautiful.
And I said are you sure youwant to give me your keys?
She said yes, because I don'tever want you to forget this
minute.
I don't ever want you to forgetthis moment that the Holy
Spirit loves you enough, wherehe just told me to give this to
you.
And I had that kind of lovebecause I was struggling so much
with my past at that point, somuch with my past at that point

(04:29):
I had gone through a very long, hurtful divorce where I was so
worried about my kids' futureand what I had done, and the
guilt just overwhelmed me.
It was like suffocating, and ithad been years, but I still was
holding on to it and it wasjust the most beautiful moment.
And so I do have a heart forother women that are going
through the same thing and I tryto.
I try to share that storybecause it was so.

(04:51):
It had nothing to do with me,but everything to do with God.
You know, when God loves us somuch that he will use somebody
else to speak to us, you know, just to Well, right now, right
now you're speaking to people onradio and through a podcast.

Ron Meyers (05:06):
So I agree, I think a lot of people that I've met
over my life, many hundreds ofpeople, they can't get past
their past.
So right now somebody listeningsays, wow, that sounds like me.
What would you tell that personthat cannot get past their past
.

Michelle Fulkerson (05:24):
That we all make mistakes.
We all make mistakes and knowthis.
The enemy is real.
The enemy is here on earth andhe does that you know.
You hear that he comes to kill, steal and destroy.
That is so true, that is sotrue.
And you have to get to the endof yourself, the end of your
hurt, the end of your pain, because it wasn't always this is

(05:47):
what I had to realize about me.
I was wallowing in my ownself-pity for so long and I
didn't even realize it.
You know it was over.
I did this, I did this, I didthis, I did this.
Yes, I did, I did.
I cannot take that back.
No matter how much I hurt, nomatter how much I hurt somebody
else, you can't take it back.
But God loves you so much, Godloves you so much.

(06:09):
And you have to get to the endof yourself where you realize
okay, I did make a mistake, Idid.

Ron Meyers (06:15):
I met you at the show Christmas City.
You had customers around you,you have a glow.
So when you opened your door tothe future, did you notice a
difference, even with yourrelationship?

Michelle Fulkerson (06:25):
with.

Ron Meyers (06:25):
Jesus.

Michelle Fulkerson (06:26):
Yes, yes.
So when you open the door tothe future, what you're doing,
when you feel guilt, you'restill letting that enemy in and
that's what he wants.
So you close that door and youopen the door and you're like,
okay, I'm here now, I'm with thepresence of God, I'm filled
with the Holy Spirit.
Here now, I'm with the presenceof God, I'm filled with the
Holy Spirit, and it is the mostremarkable feeling that you

(06:47):
could ever imagine to walk infreedom, to walk in peace, to
have that relationship with theHoly Spirit and just be in love
with your Heavenly Father, and Italk to Him all day long, every
day, every day.
And it's just such a walk infreedom.
You know, we on earth, we'renever going to be perfect.
That's just how it is Right.

(07:08):
But to know that now I have apurpose, and it's to minister to
other people, to tell themabout you, can be forgiven, you
can have a bright future, youknow, and and just all because
of the grace of God.
So I wear a t-shirt almostevery day because it's what I
believe.
On the happy butterfly and onthe front of it it says grace,
transformation, restoration.

(07:28):
The happy butterfly Becausethrough grace we can be
transformed and reformed, andthat's the story of the happy
butterfly.

Ron Meyers (07:36):
Part of my ministry has been for years of always
telling people that we have todiscover our destiny.
We have to discover our destiny, we have to discover our
purpose and we have to trust andbelieve with all our heart that
we are forgiven and that we canmove in to the future.
Because Jesus said there is noguilt, there is no condemnation
for those that are in him, andso guilt and condemnation is

(08:01):
something, like you said, theenemy wants to use on us.
Michelle, I was just speakingto someone the other day, a
gentleman who really has a hardtime getting past his past.
When you're forgiven, you'reforgiven, you're totally
forgiven.
You're a new creation in Christ, so maybe he's listening.
Could you tell him something?

Michelle Fulkerson (08:20):
I would just say the enemy has a hold of him
and that's what the enemy likesto do, and I've been with so
many people and heard so manystories.
But when you fully, fully, youcan believe in Christ.
That's one thing.
But when you fully give yourlife to Christ, when you fully
give your life to Christ, hewill experience a blessing like

(08:40):
no other.
He will experience forgiveness,he will experience peace.
So the enemy is still lyingvery loudly in his ear right now
and he's got to shut that door.

Ron Meyers (08:51):
We have to get him a key like your friend gave you.

Michelle Fulkerson (08:54):
Yes, and I'm telling you that when she did
that, because I believed in theLord, too right, I believed in
the Lord.
I believed in the Lord when Isinned.
I believed in the Lord when Ikept blaming myself.
But until Sheree prayed over methat day and physically turned
me and made me lock the door andthen turn back around and open
the door, I mean, and the HolySpirit was so filled that it was

(09:16):
like the enemy.
The enemy is answered, as Ialways say, he's real, like
people.
I think people believe in God,but they don't believe in satan.
They're.
They're both real, right, and Ithink, until we understand that
, that you have to physically, mentally, spiritually, like you
when you entertain the devillike he's still going to whisper
yes and I don't meanentertaining unlike

(09:38):
entertainment could be stillguilt and shame.
And it because he'll grab youand destroy you any way he can.
Because when you walk throughsomething like that, like what I
have, I'm a threat to the devil, because I'm going to tell your
friend and I'm going to tellyour person exactly what the
devil's doing and you've got toturn your back on him and you

(09:59):
don't look forward.
My friend, pam, is mypre-mentor, so I'm probably I
pray in tongues, I have a lot ofvisions, so I and she always
tells me you don't entertainthose visions, why do you think
you see them?
And I've seen, I've seen thedevil, I've seen spirits, and so

(10:19):
she always says you lookforward.
You grab under the garment andyou look forward, don't
entertain those thoughts, don'tentertain.
And I've had to really gothrough like why do I see them?
And it's always a warning toother people that you know, and
I think he plays with me toscare me, but it doesn't anymore
.
You know, I keep my visionstraight ahead.

(10:41):
You don't look to the side, because you know you're walking
in purpose.

Ron Meyers (10:45):
Yeah.

Michelle Fulkerson (10:45):
You know you're just, you're walking a
perfect and that's what I knowthat he loves to destroy.
You just close your door onthat path and just keep going,
Keep going.
And once he opens that door andhe forgives himself and he has a
relationship with Christ, youknow he's going to walk in such
freedom and he's going to have astory bigger than he ever

(11:09):
imagined, and so he just needsto get to that point.
The devil doesn't like us beingable to tell those stories
right.
He doesn't like us to get outand say what God has done and
what it's like.

Ron Meyers (11:19):
Well, and what we have?
To also remind ourselvescontinuously that we are
possessed by the Holy Spirit.
The devil has nothing to dowith this, he can't invade us,
he can't come into us, he canonly lie to us.
And that we have to do is justhear those thoughts, those and
say get behind me, I have thespirit inside of me and God has

(11:42):
a plan for me.
And right now a lot of peopleare out there missing, missing
things in life, because theyhave this spirit of fear.
And God said he has not givenus a spirit of fear but power
and love and sound mind.
Michelle, you have themicrophone now.
There are men and womenlistening that have not been
able to get past their past, andI know you have a very special

(12:05):
heart as a woman for other womenout there.
They're wearing a lot of hats, doing a lot of things, and yet
they don't seem to have a lot ofpeace in their life.

Michelle Fulkerson (12:15):
And it's a real feeling, isn't it?
Because life is so full ofstruggles daily, you know to
want to be enough for everybody, you know, and you get to feel
like you're getting pulled amillion miles apart.
And I think for women, especially if they have children
, you know they want to puttheir children first, as we all
do, you know, and sometimes itjust feels like you're never

(12:37):
enough.
I would say definitely maketime for yourself each day with
the Lord and just pray and talkto Him every day.
I have found that, as I prayevery morning and then at the
day, you know it's like okay, okay, god, what are we going to
do today?
And just constantly build thatrelationship with Him.
Okay, you know, and it might beso simple as okay, lord, let me

(13:00):
put on a happy face while I'mcooking dinner, but when you
make Him your best friendthroughout the day and you speak
positive, you know about yourlove for him and about yourself.
It just it makes your dayseasier.
It makes your days easier andyou become a role model for your
children and those peoplearound you too, when they see
you know the grace in you.

(13:21):
I remember when I talked to youthe first time and you said
you're different, you're, you're.
You can tell you have a passionand I do.
And it's not my business, it'sGod's, and it's because I'm so
passionate, because he loves meso much and I love him so much.
We're just in a wonderfulrelationship and he loves us all

(13:43):
, he loves us all.
And once you develop thatrelationship with him, him and
he becomes your passion everyday.
Like my work's not my passion,my that, my joy does not come
from painting, it comes from thelord and it's, and some days I
don't want to paint and I thinkabout okay, but what does he
have in store for me, you know, and it's, it's for women it's.

(14:05):
It's hard sometimes to findtheir own joy because they are
so spread, so thinly, andespecially the women that I've
talked to that have been rescuedfrom sex trafficking, they feel
worthless, you know.
They feel so worthless.

Ron Meyers (14:22):
We have a lot of people out there that are
hurting, but the good news isthere's people out there like
you and millions of others thatare doing life with Jesus.
Doing life.
I tell people listen, you know,we have to have oxygen to
breathe and to really thrive inlife.
To understand we have to dolife with Jesus.
He becomes the center of ourlife and everything from the

(14:46):
center then flows out.
You know, we don't have toworry about the future.
He's got the future.
We don't have to worry abouttomorrow.
He's got tomorrow.
He just wants us to do lifewith him.
Slow down a little bit andrelax and chill out, like I say,
and just enjoy yourself.
If someone asked you who isJesus to you personally,

(15:08):
michelle, what would you tellthem?

Michelle Fulkerson (15:10):
He's my best friend, lord and Savior, who
has loved me enough to forgive.
Took all my sin away so that Ican live in freedom.

Ron Meyers (15:17):
Before we close, I want to ask you will you pray
for my listeners?

Michelle Fulkerson (15:22):
I do, heavenly Father.
We just come to you, dear Lord, and just ask for everyone
listening to feel a completepeace in their lives, dear God,
and to know that their walk isnot a walk alone, and for them
just to know how loved they areand how forgiven they are and
there is a bright future.
God did not intend for you tobe sorrowful.
He did not intend for you to beunhappy.
He wants you to live infullness.

(15:44):
He wants you to live with joyand to live with purpose, and we
all have a purpose.
We all have such a strong, strong purpose, and if you
haven't found yours right now orat this time, it's okay.
It's okay.
Just lean on Him forunderstanding and ask Him and be
open to His Word and not to doit alone.
Sometimes we are our own worstenemy.
And, god, we just pray thateveryone has a heart full of

(16:09):
your joy and a mind to be openand to listen to your word.
Amen.

Ron Meyers (16:17):
When I return.
Five action steps to ridyourself of guilt and shame from
your past.

Speaker 1 (16:23):
Five action steps to rid yourself of guilt and shame
from your past.
You're listening to Get theHell Out of your Life with your
host, Ron Myers.

Speaker 4 (16:35):
Real stories, real struggles and real hope.
Whom?

Speaker 1 (16:38):
the Son sets free is free.
Indeed, I'm in the head ofencouragement.
This is the journey.

Speaker 4 (16:43):
My name is Mark and I want to encourage you today
that if you've asked Jesus toforgive you of your sins, you
are indeed forgiven.
The problem is we have troubleforgiving ourselves.
Once we come to Christ, we aresuddenly aware of all the things
we've done in our life.
Guilt rushes in and we becomeburdened by our shame.
But Jesus came that we mighthave life and have life more

(17:05):
abundantly.
This means understanding thatwhen you asked Jesus to forgive
you, he did.
In 2 Corinthians 3, Paulreminds us where the spirit of
the Lord is, there is freedom.
When Jesus set you free, hetook away the spiritual death
penalty you were facing beforeyou came to Christ.
But you can live your life infreedom today, knowing that God

(17:27):
has removed that sin from you asfar as the East is from the
West.
In a relationship with Jesus, you are forgiven and free.
Here's a refreshing word todayfrom Galatians For all the law
is fulfilled in one word, evenin this, you shall love your

(17:50):
neighbor as yourself.

Speaker 1 (17:57):
You're tired of how you're living.
We'll change it.

Ron Meyers (18:15):
You don't like where you're headed, rearrange it.
Welcome back listeners.
So we want to move on from ourpast, but our guilt and shame
just seem to stop us.
It is so tough.
I talk to a lot of people andthey are really wonderful people

(18:36):
doing some wonderful things, but sometimes that past, some of
the things they did, justhaunts them.
They can't get past it, justlike Michelle talked about.
So I want to share today someideas that can help you be free.
I know when I first startedfollowing Jesus, I had to remind
myself on a daily basis that Iam a new creation in Christ.

(18:58):
I am not the old Ron, I'm thenew Ron.
I'm defined now by who Jesussays I am.
I know I'm loved and I know Iam fully forgiven by Jesus.
The other thing I had to do wascontinually renew my mind, fill
my mind with scripture thattalked about God's grace, the
finished work of Christ.

(19:20):
I would memorize scripture andwhen I started thinking about
the past, I would just preach tomyself I am a new creation in
Christ and I have a new mind andnew desires.
And the other thing that Ireally had to do was trust God,
because when you're out theretrying to change your ways from

(19:40):
what you used to do.
You're always going to run intothose cynical friends that are
saying, oh God could really useyou with all what you used to do
.
They don't get it, they don'tunderstand it, so don't even
argue with them.
What I did is I just trusted inGod.
I told them.
Jesus says it's true, so I knowit's true, so let's not talk

(20:01):
about it anymore.
And then the other thing that Ihad to do is just walk in the
freedom of Christ, celebratethat freedom every day.
I was no longer under the lawbut under grace.
I was free to live a life thatreflects his love and grace and
friends.
That is a life of peace, powerand passion.

(20:23):
It really, really works.
Now I want to give you fivethings, five action steps to
help you develop a passion forJesus.
Because when you really developthat passion for Jesus, that
love, that trust, those pastthoughts and guilt and shame
they just go away because yourmind and your heart is filled

(20:46):
with Jesus.
Number one you have to recognizehis love and grace, reflect the
depth of Jesus' love for you.
You know, if you were the onlyperson on earth, he still would
have died for you on that cross.
That's how much he loves you,and understanding that can help
ignite a deep passion for him.

(21:07):
The other thing embrace youridentity in Christ.
You are a new creation.
Your past does not define youanymore.
Christ is your identity.
You are a new creation inChrist is your identity.
You are a new creation inChrist and the more you know him
, the more you love him.

(21:34):
Number three renewing your mindwith truth.
I say meditate on thescriptures that bring life to
you.
They just do something when youread them.
Focus on his love, his graceand his mercy.
And when you know the pastcomes to haunt you, you just
begin preaching to yourself.
Number four depend on the HolySpirit.
He is the GPS, he is the guidethat will reveal more and more

(21:55):
of Jesus to you every day.
He's your counselor and he willhelp you understand the depths
of Christ's love for you.
Love is the whole thing, and ifyou have the love and you
depend on the Holy Spirit, you're going to start being more
loving, more passionate aboutlife.
And then, number five, you'vegot to live from the heart.

(22:17):
Recognize that you have a newheart.
The old is gone, the new hascome in, and allow this new
heart to express Jesus throughyour actions, through your
thoughts, through your step, each and every day.
And when you fall, we all fall.
We make mistakes.
You just get up, say Lord, Ijust did a boneheaded thing.

(22:37):
Get me back to thinking aboutyou more and more.
And as we focus on the truthsthat Jesus is your answer, your
passion for Jesus will deepenand you will experience the joy
and fulfillment that comes fromknowing him more intimately.
How do you get the hell out ofyour life?

Speaker 5 (22:59):
Get on your knees and cry out to the Lord, he hears
you, right where you are.
How to get the hell out of yourlife?
Well, yeah, replace it withJesus.
We gotta be born again, born ofyour life.
Get on your knees and cry outto the Lord.
He hears you, right where youare.

Ron Meyers (23:04):
How to get the hell out of your life.
Well, yeah, replace it withJesus.

Speaker 4 (23:07):
We got to be born again born of the Spirit, and
that's by trusting Jesus Christ.

Michelle Fulkerson (23:10):
turning from our sins and trusting Jesus,
you find out about this man bythe name of Jesus, who went to
the cross and gave his life sothat we will have a life more
abundantly.
And if you can receive thatlove, he will love that hell out
of you.

Speaker 1 (23:26):
You trust in him and you let him love the hell right
out of you.

Ron Meyers (23:29):
How do you get the hell?

Michelle Fulkerson (23:33):
out of your life.
Oh gosh, jesus, jesus, jesus isthe way, the truth and the life
.
No one comes to the Fatherexcept through him.

Speaker 4 (23:41):
So how do you get the hell out of your life?
Record your answer in a voicememo and email it to info at the
promoterorg.
That's info at the promoterorg.

Speaker 5 (23:55):
Does God speak to us today?
If so, what does he sound like?
Thundering roars, crashingwaves, a booming megaphone?
Maybe, sometimes, but maybeit's not quite as Hollywood,
dramatic as all that.
Maybe it's a little more simple.
John 10, 27 says my sheep hearmy voice, I know them and they

(24:18):
follow me.
In the midst of all the noiseand questions, god is speaking
and we can hear his voice.
We just need to learn torecognize it.
So what does he sound like?
He sounds like love, likereconciliation, like kindness,
wisdom, hope, truth.

(24:38):
Do you know those sounds Then?
Maybe you hear his voice moreoften than you think.
Maybe you're being led by himmore than you realize.
Maybe God is speaking to youand you actually are listening.
You just didn't know it.

Speaker 4 (24:55):
Ron will be back in a moment to wrap up today's
conversation.
Did you know what Ron didbefore he discovered his destiny
?
He was a promoter of secularentertainment and, by his own
admission, he promoted anythinghe could make a buck at.
At the pinnacle of his success,he walked away from it all so
he could follow Jesus anddiscover his God-given destiny.

(25:15):
That was over 20 years ago andhe has never looked back.
Ron put his story in a novelentitled the Promoter and he
wants to give you a copy.
This book is a message of hope.
To request your free copy, visit our website at
thepromoterorg.
Now back to Ron.

Ron Meyers (25:36):
Well, friends, my time is up and I hope you have
enjoyed today's program.

check it out, because Jesus isfreedom.
Jesus is the guilt reliever oflife.
Jesus is freedom from your past.
Jesus is exactly what each ofus need, as much as we need

(25:58):
oxygen.
And when we put Jesus in ourlife, well, things begin to make
sense and we embark on ajourney that only God can show
you.
I'll be back next week withanother great episode and tell

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

I’m Jay Shetty host of On Purpose the worlds #1 Mental Health podcast and I’m so grateful you found us. I started this podcast 5 years ago to invite you into conversations and workshops that are designed to help make you happier, healthier and more healed. I believe that when you (yes you) feel seen, heard and understood you’re able to deal with relationship struggles, work challenges and life’s ups and downs with more ease and grace. I interview experts, celebrities, thought leaders and athletes so that we can grow our mindset, build better habits and uncover a side of them we’ve never seen before. New episodes every Monday and Friday. Your support means the world to me and I don’t take it for granted — click the follow button and leave a review to help us spread the love with On Purpose. I can’t wait for you to listen to your first or 500th episode!
