Ron Meyers (00:22):
Hello, my friends,
it is so good to be with you
today.
Today we're going to talk aboutovercoming adversity and
enjoying success with God's help.
Success is a concept thatresonates deeply with many of us
, whether it's in our careers, relationships or personal growth
.
But what does it mean toachieve success with God's help?
(00:45):
Well, my guest today is goingto share her story of how she
overcame adversity and today isenjoying success with God's help
.
Her name is Trudy, she lives inJacksonville, florida, and for
you to hear where God has takenher on her life journey is quite
empowering.
And later in the monologue, Iwill share five action steps to
(01:08):
help you overcome adversity andenjoy success with God.
But first, trudy, what's yourstory?
Trudy Toche (01:15):
Well, I've
definitely had a full life here.
Grew up in Gulfport, mississippi, native to
Mississippi Gulf Coast.
After graduating from theUniversity of South Alabama, you
know, I had a degree in thehealthcare field.
I worked a few years here at alocal hospital and then it was
time for my next move.
(01:36):
I had an opportunity to move toNew York City, and I was always
an adventurer, and so I tookthe opportunity, ended up in New
York City for a few years, newJersey for seven years.
That's where I kind of startedmy career and started a family.
And then, of course, you know, when family comes, life changes,
(01:58):
your priorities change and Iended up in Jacksonville Florida
.
Are you still married?
I'm not.
Jacksonville Florida.
Ron Meyers (02:03):
Are you still
married?
Trudy Toche (02:04):
I'm not.
I am currently single.
Ron Meyers (02:07):
You hold a
prestigious award, don't you,
with Mary Kay Cosmetics?
Trudy Toche (02:10):
Yes.
So life changes when you havechildren.
So in New York City daycare wasvery expensive and so I
reviewed kind of my life being anew mom and so I stepped away
from my career and was being amom.
But I loved my career.
I loved helping people in thehospital, and so Mary Kay
Cosmetics came into my life.
(02:31):
I went to just an event andfell in love with it.
I fell in love with thephilosophy.
It definitely aligned with myupbringing and so I started with
Mary Kay Cosmetics.
So I weaved it in and out of mylife for several years, just
you know, kind of playing aroundwith it.
And when the big life changehappened, I really sat down and
(02:56):
reviewed kind of where I was andI was like you know what, I'm
going to see, what this littlebusiness can really do.
And I set a big goal and it wasa really big goal and I was
number one in sales for Mary KayCosmetics out of 2.5 million
other women.
Ron Meyers (03:16):
That's awesome, but
before you got there, there was
probably a lot of low parts inyour life.
What is some of the adversitythat you've gone through and how
did you get past adversity todiscover success?
Trudy Toche (03:31):
Well, I have to say
I am truly, truly blessed to
have a humble background and youknow what.
I was always brought to church, you know, with my family, my
grandmother.
That was also just somethingthat was a part of our life
growing up here in Mississippi.
And you know, as you grow andget older you kind of go away
(03:52):
from it.
You know college age and stuff, but the seed had been planted.
That seed had been planted andI gave my life to Christ.
I think I was around 10, 12years old and so he was always
in my heart, 10, 12 years old,and so he was always in my heart
.
And so, as life kind of getstough, you kind of lean back to
God and Jesus and asking forhelp and guidance as you go
(04:14):
through the valleys of life.
I definitely my faith was superimportant and you know God will
carry you when you asked himfor help.
Ron Meyers (04:23):
Now you've got
children that are getting ready
to go off to college, right?
What kind of mom advice do yougive them to head out in the
world when mom and dad aren'taround them?
Trudy Toche (04:34):
Well, you know,
I've been a solo mom for 11
years.
I like to say solo mom.
I don't like the label ofsingle, because that's exactly
what I am.
Their dad lives several statesaway and it was up to me to take
care of business, and so that'sa reason that I love Mary Kay
so much, because it was freedomand flexibility to flex in and
(04:57):
around our really challenginglife of being a solo mom and not
having family.
My boys are I can't evenbelieve it they're 21 and 18.
The oldest is going into themilitary, the Marine Corps.
Yeah, and the youngest will begraduating in a few months and
he'll be headed off to college.
University of Florida is histop choice.
(05:18):
But I have always been able toreally to show the boys I've
always been an example of showthe boys that life is going to
get tough and so churches andgoing to church and having God
in our life has always been animportant part of our family
unit.
You know we do daily prayer, morning to night, and I do what
(05:40):
I can because it's tough,challenging, raising children,
boys period in this day and age,and so I really do try to just
sprinkle God and Jesus into ourlife because I know things are
going to get tough.
Ron Meyers (05:52):
You have been a solo
mom for what?
Eight years?
No for 11 years 11 years hasthat been a tough thing.
Trudy Toche (06:02):
It has faced.
Ron Meyers (06:03):
I've faced many,
much adversity and challenges,
just you know, raising kidstoday even you know Well and I
ask that because there are a lotof people listening right now
that are in that same boat Anyadvice or wisdom that you'd give
them.
Trudy Toche (06:16):
You know, for me,
that's where I really started to
lean in on God and I'm like, okay, lord, I thought my life
was going this direction andit's not.
So give me the strength andcourage, and that's what I would
pray every day.
It's like, lord, give me thestrength and courage to get to
the next day, and I think, asbeing a solo parent or a single
parent or any challenges thatyou have in life you really just
(06:47):
want to get to the next bestday, your next best step, and a
lot of worry and anxiety thatpeople have is worrying about
the past and you can't changethat, or worrying about the
future and it's not here yet,and so you really want to stay
in the present, because that'struly a gift.
Ron Meyers (06:55):
Is attitude
important?
Trudy Toche (06:57):
Well, I think for
me and my business.
I don't know how much you knowabout Mary Kay Cosmetics, but
Mary Kay was a devout Christianand she was a real person.
You know Betty Crocker was nota real person, but Mary Kay was,
and she was also a solo mom ofthree and everybody told her she
would not be successful.
She used her life savings midforties to start this company 61
years ago.
It's over 40 countriesworldwide and they're number one
(07:20):
in skincare, and so they really, really, really do a great job,
both on the research anddevelopment, the professionalism
, and we are a privately heldcompany based in Dallas, texas.
Our mission statement is to goon a roll do unto others, as you
have, do unto you.
And then Mary Kay really saidyou know, for all of our sales
force, really it's God first, family second, career third.
(07:41):
And then Mary Kay really saidyou know, for all of our sales
force, really it's God first, family second, career third.
And whether you're in Mary Kayor out of Mary Kay, when you
have those principles aligned, you can be successful in
whatever you do.
And so for me, I really look atMary Kay as a part of.
I feel like I'm a Mary Kaymissionary.
So when I do my work, of coursemoney's important and it's a
(08:03):
business model, but I don'treally place the business thing
first.
I placed with the opportunityto be a blessing over someone
else's life.
I'm going to help you look andfeel beautiful and I'm going to
coach you to that, or I andyou're going to hear about God,
because I pray with all myclients before any event.
Ron Meyers (08:21):
So you care about
your clients I do they become
family?
I tell people love what you do,do what you love and just care
about the people you are dealingwith and money just seems to
appear.
What advice do you give people,or maybe someone that is
thinking about starting abusiness, because it took you
quite a few years to get to havethe title you have now right?
Trudy Toche (08:44):
Yeah, I've been
with the company for 20 years
and, you know, until I reallyhad life adversity, like truly
life change, I started to sitdown and just evaluate kind of
where I was.
Now, because of this amazingcompany and the opportunity,
I've launched another business.
It's called PositivelyProfiling.
That is my speaking business.
(09:06):
I speak coach and that isanother avenue of a job that I
branched out of Mary Kay andbecause of the award and people
want to hear me train on salesdevelopment, speak coach.
Ron Meyers (09:22):
Okay, coach someone
out there.
They're having a rough time, they're thinking about quitting
their business and nothing isgoing well, even though they
have a great business.
You're the coach.
Tell them what do they need todo.
Trudy Toche (09:32):
So I sit down just
quickly and really evaluate kind
of where they're spending theirtime and their mindset.
You really do have to have aclear mindset and what your
priorities.
What are you spending your timeon?
And I say God is number one.
Like you got to have himingrained and threaded into your
life, because you cannot besuccessful in anything you do
(09:56):
without some type of connection, relationship with God.
Ron Meyers (10:01):
Yeah, that's a good
point.
And I tell people, winnersnever quit and quitters never
win.
And sometimes people are soclose to quitting and if they
would just hang in there alittle longer, the blessing and
everything comes.
Trudy Toche (10:18):
That's when the
breakthrough happens, on that
very, very pivotal point, towhere people just feel hopeless
and they want to give up.
If you just keep going and prayfor strength, courage, for
doors to open.
That's what I'm doing right nowin my season of life.
I'm like, okay, lord, where, after all of this that you've
(10:38):
given me and everything thatyou've brought me through now,
what do you want me to do, um,and how do you want me to show
up?
Because I'm here to serve you,to build the kingdom, um, and so
that's an exciting place to be,and so the door will open.
You know, he will open a doorthat no man can.
Ron Meyers (10:56):
So were you ever in
a position in your life where
you felt hopeless?
Trudy Toche (11:02):
I think for me, the
most challenging time was
during the divorce.
It was not planned.
I did not want to be divorced.
I prayed for many years forthings to be different and it
was not.
And so then, what happens withfor me?
During that time, my whole lifechanged Like okay, now where do
(11:24):
I go, what do I do, how do Ilive life, how do I proceed?
And literally I got in my kneesevery single day and ask God
for strength and courage and fordirection.
Ron Meyers (11:36):
That is so important
what you bring up, trudy,
strength and courage, because alot of people have great ideas
and they have great businessmodels, but they just don't have
the courage to follow it allthe way to the end.
They hit a bumpy road.
I know because this happened inmy life.
I've been on my own since I was15 years old and I've had a lot
(11:57):
of bumps, but I was alwaysfocused on where I want to go,
and that, as a successfulentrepreneur you are, is what I
tell people.
You've got to believe.
You've got to believe that youwill achieve it and, as you said
(12:18):
, have that strength and havethat courage.
So the days you don't want toget up, you don't want to make
another phone call, you don'twant to go to a meeting because
you think they're going to sayno to you, I tell them hey,
don't prejudge.
You know, sometimes theblessings come out of the things
that we avoided the most.
And then we do them and wethink, why was I so afraid of it
?
It turned out pretty good.
Trudy Toche (12:32):
Yeah, so one of the
great things that I tell my
children and people that I coachand you know just some great
advice is really going to take achecklist of who's in your
corner, who's around you.
You are a product of the fivepeople you hang out with, and so
that's a good point.
If you're hanging out withpeople who are naysayers, you're
going to be naysayers.
If you're hanging out withpeople who are going to jail
(12:55):
guess what You're going to jail.
And so on the positive note, ifyou are hanging out with people
who are goal setting umpositive moving forward in life,
you it rubs off on you.
Ron Meyers (13:08):
And you even went on
a mission trip, didn't you,
with Tim Tebow's father.
Trudy Toche (13:12):
I did.
I'm on my second trip Uh thefirst one during the life change
um and 2018, I had theopportunity to go with Mr Bob
Tebow to uh serve with him andhis ministry to the Philippines
for two weeks.
Speaker 4 (13:25):
Wow.
Trudy Toche (13:26):
And their mission
is how do you help thousands and
thousands and thousands andthousands of people that need
help?
It's through Jesus Christ andgiving them hope.
So I hiked in many villages, backpacks for the day, and
remote.
They'd never seen anyone fromthe US or light-skinned.
They didn't have running water, electricity, and that was
(13:49):
astounding to me.
I mean, I knew it happened, butwhen you experience it in the
flesh and for me to say that I'mhere to give you hope, and hope
is through Jesus Christ, isreally.
I cried every day.
Ron Meyers (14:03):
Wow, yeah, I think I
was really awestruck when you
told me about your experienceover there.
Maybe I'll go one day with MrTebow.
Trudy Toche (14:12):
What's the name of
his?
Ron Meyers (14:12):
mission.
Trudy Toche (14:14):
Mr Bob Tebow, you
can Google it, for cause Tim
also is his son and they don't.
They live very close to me inJacksonville, so it's wonderful
to be able to be so close tothem and their mission is Jesus
Christ.
And so I did get my calling, really when I was in the
Philippines after serving fortwo weeks.
So I really encourage people tovolunteer because you know what
(14:37):
you think you're going to helpthem and they end up blessing
you, and so when you serveothers, they end up blessing you
, and so for me, I was on aftercrying, you know, for two weeks
serving.
I was like Lord, what do youwant me to do now?
Like where do I go from here?
And he spoke to me on the beachin the area of Osiris in the
(15:01):
Philippines and it was like I'mtalking to you now.
He said rise up and say my name, be a light for others to
follow, and that's it.
Ron Meyers (15:10):
Well, and you've
done it.
And now with a platform ofbeing the top Mary Kay
salesperson out of 2.5 millionpeople, what a platform you have
.
You sell a lifestyle, a changein an attitude.
You help make over their wholeattitude and whole life, not
just their looks, right.
Trudy Toche (15:30):
Well, I think you
know anybody who's successful,
whether you're going to medicalschool, whether you're, you know
, going to be the top ininsurance or radio, or just fill
in the blank.
Things that you have to do onthe daily applies the same.
You have to get up early, gotto lead a healthy lifestyle.
You got to really be aroundpositive people.
You got to be spirit led, oryou have to believe in something
(15:52):
higher than you, and for meit's, of course, jesus Christ.
You got to have good sleep.
I mean, you've got to set yourgoals clearly in front of you,
you have to reevaluate yourgoals, and so those are the
types of things that you justthat any successful person needs
to have in their life.
I love it.
Ron Meyers (16:11):
I love it.
You're doing good.
I'm fired up just listening toyou.
Trudy, you said something to methat I thought was awesome
Happiness is an inside job.
What?
Trudy Toche (16:22):
do you mean?
Happiness comes from within.
So you really do have to eachand every day work on what is
making you happy, and for meit's living a God-filled life,
having positive people aroundyou, the things that really
matter, loving your family, yourhealth, and so no amount of
(16:43):
material things is going tofulfill a void for you.
And so, yes, it could bedesigner clothes or the fancy
cars, the house, and none ofthat stuff is important.
If you first do not have yourlife filled with God and the
love that he has for you and youhave for him, none of that
(17:05):
other stuff will ever ever beable to make you happy.
And so many people because withsocial media and what's out
there are really chasing thosethings.
And if anybody out there wouldlike to reach out to me to learn
more about my speaking coachingprograms, you can reach me on
IG at Trudy Positively Profiling.
Ron Meyers (17:27):
Well, listen time is
running out and before we go,
will you pray for our listenersplease?
Trudy Toche (17:33):
Sure.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank youso much for the blessings that
you give us each and every day.
Thank you for Ron and hismission and his listeners and
followers, his listeners andfollowers.
Lord God, I'm just so thankfulfor this opportunity to be able
to share your name and your wordwith others that are listening,
(17:54):
and you know, if we can justhelp one more person by being an
example for you know, forothers to follow, then we are
doing your work, and I just wantto bless all the listeners here
and just encourage them to keepgoing forward.
Seek you out, lord God, and Ijust hope that you open doors
(18:15):
and restore everything that youneed to do, and I just am so
thankful for this opportunityand who you created me to be, to
be sitting here, speaking, saying your name and building
your kingdom In Jesus' name,amen.
Ron Meyers (18:32):
When I return, five
action steps to help you
overcome adversity and achievesuccess with God's help.
Speaker 1 (18:40):
You're listening to
Get the Hell Out of your Life
with your host, ron Myers.
Real stories, real strugglesand real hope.
Speaker 5 (18:49):
We all go through our
days on earth with a plan and
many of us have long-range goalswe want to achieve, whether
it's business or personal.
My name is Mark and this is theJourney.
Inevitably, we will all runinto roadblocks on our path to
our goals.
Some roadblocks are minor,Others can be devastating,
life-altering events.
(19:10):
Proverbs 16 tells us that theheart of man plans his way, but
the Lord establishes our steps.
Proverbs 19, many are the plansin the mind of a man, but it is
the purpose of the Lord thatwill stand.
We will all face some adversityas we strive towards goals that
we've set for our life, but theBible is clear that when we
(19:31):
include God in our plans, we canand will experience success.
Proverbs 16 goes on commit yourwork to the Lord and your plans
will be established.
In the book of Job we see thatGod frustrates the plans of the
crafty person so that theirhands achieve no success.
It has been God's desire fromthe beginning of time to be a
(19:53):
part of our lives.
Jeremiah, chapter 29, remindsus that God has a plan for each
of us.
It's a plan to prosper us andnot harm us, to give us hope and
a future.
Matthew, chapter 6, Jesus saysit best Seek first the kingdom
of heaven, and everything youneed will be given to you.
As we make our plans for ourlife, on our journey to our
(20:17):
goals, let's remember to seekGod first and to honor Him with
our plans.
The Journey Him with our plans.
Speaker 4 (20:32):
Here's a refreshing
word from Ephesians 5, 1 and 2.
Therefore, be imitators of Godas dear children, and walk in
love, as Christ also has lovedus and given Himself for us.
Get the hell out of your life.
Speaker 1 (21:05):
Get the hell out of
your life.
Ron Meyers (21:08):
Get the hell out of
your life.
Welcome back listeners.
I want to share five actionsteps to help you overcome
adversity and achieve successwith God's help.
But first, it's important torecognize that God has uniquely
designed each of us withspecific talents, passions and
(21:28):
desires, and as we pursue ourgoals, we can find comfort in
knowing that, with God, he iswith us every step of the way.
Philippians 4.13 assures usthat we can do all things
through Christ, who strengthensus.
Now, this strength is not aboutjust physical or mental
endurance, but about thespiritual empowerment that comes
from our union with Christ.
(21:50):
Here are five action steps thatwill help you overcome
adversity and enjoy success withJesus.
Number one embrace your identityin Christ.
Recognize that you are a newcreation in Christ, fully
equipped to face any challenge.
Your identity is not defined byyour circumstances, but by who
(22:15):
you are in Him.
Number two depend on God'sstrength.
Trust in the power of Christwithin you to overcome adversity
.
Remember that his grace issufficient and his power is made
perfect in your weakness.
Number three renew your mind.
(22:37):
Focus on the truth of God'sword and allow it to transform
your thinking.
Meditate on scriptures thatremind you of God's promises and
his faithfulness.
Number four live by faith, notby sight, my friend, trusting
that God is working all thingstogether for your good, even
(23:00):
when circumstances seemchallenging.
Believe in his plan for yourlife.
Number five rely on the HolySpirit.
Allow the Holy Spirit to guideyou and produce his fruit in
your life, such as love, joy, peace and patience.
These qualities will help younavigate adversity with grace
(23:24):
and strength.
Remember, my friend you arecomplete in Christ and he is
with you every step of the way.
Your success is not measured byworldly standards, but by your
faithfulness and trust in Him.
If you need something more outof life than what you've already
experienced, if you need a newstart, a clean slate, if you
(23:46):
want to live life forever, youneed God in your life.
Trudy Toche (23:49):
If getting old has
you depressed, growing up
sometimes scares the daylightsout of you If you want to know
what the future holds.
Get in touch with the one whoholds the future.
Ron Meyers (23:57):
Stop wasting time
and get a hold of God.
Speaker 1 (23:59):
It's not about
earning points by being good.
It ain't about some boringchurch.
It's not about working your wayto heaven.
Trudy Toche (24:10):
Finding.
Speaker 1 (24:11):
God is not about
following some group who claims
to be the only way to God.
It's not about being religious.
It's not about religion.
It's all about God's only son.
Speaker 4 (24:14):
It's all about Jesus.
It's all about Jesus.
It's about Jesus Christ.
Jesus said I am the way, thetruth and the life.
No one comes to the Father, butby me.
Speaker 1 (24:30):
Well, someday, when I
stand before God and he asks me
why should I let you intoheaven?
All that's going to matter isif I knew Jesus or not, and
that's what it's all about.
Speaker 5 (24:39):
