What happens when a 20-year meth addiction culminates in a trailer explosion? For Rodney Williams, it became the catalyst for an extraordinary life transformation that continues to impact thousands.

"On meth, you're fasting to the devil," Rodney explains in this raw, powerful episode. His unflinching account takes us from childhood sexual trauma through two decades of methamphetamine addiction that stripped away everything – his marriage, home, career, and hope. But the real story begins in an ambulance after his meth lab erupted in flames, leaving him with severe burns and a moment of desperate clarity.

Rodney's unconditional surrender in that ambulance marks a turning point that defies the typical addiction narrative. "I wanted to go to heaven, I just wanted to live like hell," he admits, differentiating between his previous surface-level religious gestures and the profound spiritual transformation that finally occurred. His description of recovery as "a bucket full of dirt" gradually cleansed by "the washing of the water of the word" offers a visceral metaphor for the healing process.

Now 23 years sober, Rodney has distributed over 100,000 copies of his books "Club Meth to Christ" and "Once an Addict, Now Free" to addicts and inmates across the country. His morning routine of "having coffee with Jesus" provides a simple yet profound template for spiritual growth that anyone can apply. When host Ron Myers asks about maintaining sobriety in this "crazy upside-down world," Rodney's answer cuts through religious jargon: "Everything I was looking for, I found in Him. I'm satisfied, I'm complete."

Whether you're battling addiction yourself, supporting someone who is, or simply seeking inspiration from an authentic story of transformation, Rodney's journey demonstrates that rock bottom can become the foundation for an entirely new life. As he puts it, "After 23 years of serving Jesus, I'm a satisfied customer."

Today's guest is Rodney Williams, who told me he said Ron, on
meth, you're fasting to the.
He had an addiction to meth forover 20 years and then one day
he was cooking meth in histrailer and it blew .
.
Well, he made a decision in theambulance on the way to the .

(01:25):
.
He's got a great story andyou'll love it, .
.
Welcome to the .
.
And Rodney, what in the world isyour story?

Rodney Williams (01:34):
Well, as a young child.
Of course my mom and them tookme to church.
But at a young age, beingsexually molested by a sick man,
and I turned to this Jesus theyhad told me about and God spoke
to me.
I had childlike faith.
God spoke to me.
He told me that he wouldprotect me and one day I would
preach his word.
And of course I had hurts, pains and issues, and drugs and

(01:54):
alcohol become my solution andit numbed the pain, made me
forget about it.
And the Bible says pleasuresends for a season.
It was fun, we had a good time, you know.
But you know I always tellpeople you know you can choose
to jump out of a 10-story window, but you can't choose your
consequences when you hit theground.
Through many car wrecks, in andout of jail, broken marriage,

(02:16):
just a life of destruction, youknow, is what addiction led me
into.
And this is over 20 years ofaddiction.
My whole life was centeredaround the drugs and alcohol,
the party life.
That was my whole life, it wasmy God, that's what I was
pursuing, that's what I wasseeking.
And then rehabs.
I went to different rehabs, went to the Home of Grace one

(02:37):
time Left out of there Went backinto meth.
Meth was a big thing, methamphetamines Going 10 or
more days without eating orsleeping.
I always tell people on uh, onmeth, you are fasting to the
devil.
You know saying when you're noteating, you're not sleeping.
Open up the gates, your mindand becoming one with the
demonic realm.
But uh, june 19, 2002 is whatchanged everything.

(02:58):
I'd lost everything, lost myhome, lost.
My job was just going fromplace to place cooking the
methamphetamines.
Uh, and this night, uh, I'm ina small trailer, the fumes had
built up and in my mind there'spolice in the trees, police
under the trailer, just geekingout, you know, and just want to
get high, but I'm not going toget any higher than what I
already am.
And as I'm cooking the meth andthe fumes had built up and no

(03:22):
ventilation, a spark went offthe heat lamp and the whole
trailer ignites.
And then I'm trying to get outof the trailer.
You know what I'm saying, because I had the doors bolted
down because of fear andparanoia.
I run outside when the doorscome open with second,
third-degree burns.
At 2 o'clock in the morning,I'm waking these people up and
they're shocked.
I'm standing there all burnt upand throw a blanket around me

(03:43):
and began rushing me to thehospital.
All the times I've been in andout of jail, I'd always cry out
to God.
I always believed in God.
I believe in one God that'll dous well.
The devils also believe introuble.
I always tell people I wantedto go to heaven.
I just wanted to live like hell.
I made professions of faith, Igot baptized as a kid, but I had
no intention of turning from mysin and trusting Christ, you

(04:03):
know.
And I never got born again.
I never became a child of Godbecause I had no true repentance
.
But this night things wasdifferent.
I hated the life that I wasliving, the things that I
thought would satisfy me.
That did not and I cried out toGod.
I said God, you can take my eye, ear, whatever you want,
whatever's left, I'm going toserve you.
And I made an unconditionalsurrender to the Lord Jesus
Christ that night and that'swhere God's regeneration took

(04:25):
place.
I became a child of God thatnight and that's where God began
the journey of my life.
Second, third degree burns.
I got the skin grafts, woundcare at South Alabama Burn
Center and I said God, I'm tooweak to do this, but I'll do
anything you tell me to do.
And God spoke to me just asplain as day, just like when I
was a little kid.
He spoke to me for the firsttime and told me to go back to

(04:48):
the home of grace.
And I went back to the home ofgrace and that's where God began
to triumph for me, change me.
I always tell people it's likeI was 37 years old with a bucket
full of dirt, the washing ofthe water of the word, taking a
water hose and going andallowing that water to go in the
dirt, and the dirt begins tocome out.
Come out, come out.
Eventually got clear, cleanwater.
That's what God does with you.
Through the washing of thewater of his word, the

(05:09):
transformation was taking place.
And then one night, I gotfilled with the Holy Spirit and
I realized my goodness, this iswhat I've been looking for all
my life, you know so youliterally blew up to meet Jesus,
amen, and you did it in anambulance.

Ron Meyers (05:25):
Now, how did your family and your friends react to
this?

Rodney Williams (05:30):
Well, even though I was born again a child
of God, I got to the hospital.
I always tell people it tookthree days to get Israel out of
Egypt, 40 years in thewilderness to get Egypt out of
them.
I'm still full of the world.
So I'm still cussing.
I'm about to wear the morphinebutton.
Now no change is taking place.
But I had really given my lifeto the Lord and I'm saying I

(05:51):
give my blankety-blank life toJesus and they're yeah, right,
we've heard that before.
So they didn't have a whole lotof confidence in what I was
saying, you know.

Ron Meyers (05:57):
But God had a plan for you the whole time, and I
think that's what is soimportant.
I try to emphasize every week, through this show and through my
guests, that we can have allthe hell in our life that we can
possibly imagine, and more ontop of it, but God will search
and search and knock at our doorand he will find us and try to

(06:17):
say, hey, I need you.
And he never gives up on us,does he?
Yes?

Rodney Williams (06:21):
that's right.
And, like I said he told me, asa young child I preach his word
and I've been preaching hisword for some 22 years now.
So God is faithful, you know, and I didn't.
I had no hope.
I mean it was.
I remember the promise God hadmade me, but I was so in such
darkness there was no way thatGod could ever bring me out of
it.

Ron Meyers (06:38):
And he did when I fully surrendered to my will and
my plans, to his plan, God wasable to work with me then.
Well, Rodney, I know youpersonally and I see what you've
done, and we'll talk about yourbook that you've sent out
100,000 copies in just a littlebit.
But how do you maintain yoursobriety and continue to grow
your faith in this crazy upsidedown world?

Rodney Williams (07:00):
Well, that's through the renewing of the mind
, you know, through the Word ofGod and in the relationship that
I have with Christ man, I'msatisfied, I'm complete.
The Bible says, for it pleasedthe Father, that in him should
all fullness dwell.
Jesus is the fullness, thecompleteness.
Everything we're looking for inthe world is found in Christ
Jesus, in this relationship, andthat's what I found.
Everything I was looking for Ifound in him.
I'm satisfied, I'm satisfied,I'm complete.

(07:22):
And now I got to stay in theword.
I got to stay in thisrelationship, just like a
husband and wife.
You've got to take her on dates.
You got to spend quality timewith your wife, and same thing
with Jesus.
You got to spend that qualitytime with him, to get to know
him.
And it takes time, it's aprocess.

Ron Meyers (07:40):
I love to have my coffee with Jesus every morning
and I tell people, you know theone thing a lot of us
approaching Jesus, they think, well, I have to be in a church
or I have to be religious.
And I tell people no, just openup your heart.
If you want to yell, you wantto complain, whatever it is,
have a conversation with Jesusand then shut up for a few
minutes and that still quietvoice will begin speaking and it

(08:04):
can change your life, just likeit did for me.
He saved me, he saved you.
Amen, and life is good withJesus isn't it?

Rodney Williams (08:12):
Amen, it is.
I can't see how I lived withouthim all those years, you know.

Ron Meyers (08:17):
But if you didn't have all the hell in your life,
you couldn't be such a greatpromoter of Jesus today because
you've been there, done that, have the t-shirt and now you're
telling people how you got free.
So, speaking on that, whatadvice would you give someone
listening right now that'sstruggling with addiction and

(08:38):
they just don't know what to doand they can't go to home of
grace because they have no money?

Rodney Williams (08:42):
Yeah, Well, like I said, I searched
everything in the world had tooffer, tried all the things I
thought would satisfy me andcome up empty.
And then I know where you're atright now.
You've lost hope.
You've tried many things to getto quit, to change on your own
and you just can't do it.
But you've got to come to apoint where you just hate, hate
the life, hate the sin, and youdie from it.

(09:03):
That's when you turn and youcry out to God and just ask him
to forgive you and come and beLord of your life, master your
life and come and change you,and he will.
And he begins a process and itis a process of him transforming
your change.
I always tell people I'm notwhere I want to be, but I ain't
where I used to be 23 years ago.
I'm a totally different, a newcreation in Christ, but used to

(09:26):
be 23 years ago.
I'm a totally different, a newcreation in Christ, but I'm
totally changed from where I wasand I'm a work in progress.
You know I'm not perfect, butI'm in the process.

Ron Meyers (09:31):
Well, you said something a minute ago that you
just have to begin to hate yourlife.
I say you will.
You don't have to hate yourlife, because you will begin to
hate your life and that is thedecision part of your life.
Do you turn to the world, doyou turn to Mohammed, do you
turn to the Koran or do you turnto Jesus, the name above all

(09:53):
names?
And obviously I'm going topromote Jesus 24, seven, every
day of the week, because Jesuscame to this world for you and I
, for all of our listeners, sowe could become the person he
created us to be.
And I talk about destiny a loton this show because I believe
that we will never be fulfilled,we'll never have peace, we'll

(10:15):
never enjoy with the fruits ofwhat God has given us if we
don't discover our purpose.
So, rodney Williams, what'syour destiny in this world?
Purpose?

Rodney Williams (10:26):
So, rodney Williams, what's your destiny in
this world?
What's your purpose, rodneyWilliams?
My purpose is to go out andshare the freedom that I found
in Christ Jesus.
There's a lost world out here, living in darkness, just like I
was, in addiction, just in sin,and they're looking for
something.
They just don't know whatthey're looking for.
And what we're looking for isJesus.
That was God's plan from thevery beginning of the foundation

(10:46):
of the world that Jesus, thelight of the world, that he
would send in to save us fromour sin and from the curse that
we're all under, and would setus free and give us the liberty,
the freedom that we're alllooking for, the relationship
that we're looking for.
We're all designed to be inrelationship with God, you know,
and he wants a relationshipwith every one of us, but he

(11:10):
gave us free will that you canchoose.
Choose to continue living theway you're living and be
miserable, or choose to followand serve him, and what God has
for you is everything you'relooking for.
I tell people, after 23 yearsof serving Jesus, I'm a
satisfied customer.

Ron Meyers (11:20):
You know, and if you're listening and you wonder
about Jesus, you want to knowmore about Jesus.
Talk to people like Rodney, meand the other thousands of
people around you that discoverJesus and ask them how their
life is different.
You can only find this frompeople who personally experience
Jesus, and something you did, rodney, is you wrote a book, or

(11:41):
maybe even two books, and tellthe listeners about this book
and how they can get a copy.

Rodney Williams (11:46):
Yeah, the first book God told me to write was
Club Meth to Christ, and we'veprinted over 100,000 books.
And then the second book wasOnce an Addict, now Free, just
showing you that addiction is aworship disorder we're pursuing
trying to be satisfied in theworld, but we're spiritual
beings and God wants us to become into relationship with him.

(12:07):
And how we come intorelationship with relationship
with him is through Jesus Christ.
And uh, and then and herealized he's everything, when
you come in this relationshipwith Christ and give him your
all, uh, you realize everythingyou had been looking for in the
world is you find it in?

Ron Meyers (12:21):
him.
I remember when we were filmingsomething with you years ago,
one of the girls that workedwith me I believe it was Ashley
heard about that book and shesent that book to someone that
was incarcerated up in Oklahoma.
That book changed their life.
And I'm telling you, friends, this is we all have a purpose,
we all have a calling in lifeand until you get in that

(12:44):
calling and purpose, you'regoing to just wander around the
world.
His purpose is in these booksand I would highly recommend
getting a copy of this book.
And Rodney does it for free.
The Lord provides for him.
So, rodney, how do they get acopy of this book?

Rodney Williams (12:58):
You can go to our website clubmethtochristcom
all lowercase clubmethtoch, christcom all lowercase club
meth to christcom and uh, justuh, there's a thing in there
about the books.
You know that you can messageme.
I just need an address, yourname and address.
If you're in prison or have aloved one in prison, just send
me all the information, the aisnumber, whatever needs to be

(13:20):
done to get it to the jails.
We send them across the countryto jails prisons.
We want to see inmates.

Ron Meyers (13:26):
We want to see addicts free, like I was free
Did you ever play, when you werea kid, that little game called
dot to dot.
You go and you take, go fromnumber one to number two and you
eventually get a picture.
I bring that up because youknow when you're talking I think
about when all of us arefaithful in the gifts and
calling of our life, we help putthat picture that God has for

(13:49):
all of us coming together.
Your dot connects with anotherone and another one, and soon
it's that I see that unity inChrist.
They were in one spirit, thatwe're talking about Jesus,
something the world is desperatefor now.
Does that make sense?

Rodney Williams (14:03):
Yes, yes, that's why it's called the body
of Christ.
You know, there's manydifferent functions, you know,
and they're all needed for thebody to work the way it's
supposed to work.

Ron Meyers (14:13):
So now you've got the microphone, I need you to
give somebody some encouragementor hope that's listening right
now.

Rodney Williams (14:20):
Well, in your darkest moment, you know your
darkest moment.
You know when you have no hope, there's hope in God.
You know what I'm sayingThrough Christ Jesus.
You know that you just got tocry out to God and mean it with
the heart, not just theprofession.
The heart is the center of whowe are.
You know what I'm saying.

(14:40):
When you cry out to God in theheart, in repentance, that you
don't want to live this way nomore, and ask him to come and to
live in your heart and to makeyou his child, he'll do it and
it's called regeneration, or thenew birth takes place, and that
day forward you begin to followhim.
And you know me.

(15:01):
God's plan for me was to notonly give my life to him, but I
was so full of the world I wentto a Christian rehabilitation
center where God was able tocleanse me, wash me and build a
foundation that I've got tobuild upon the rest of my life.
You know, because I'm in aprocess.
You know I'm in the process ofGod transforming me, changing me
, making me, day by day, thatnew creation in Christ Amen.

Ron Meyers (15:24):
You know one thing, listeners, I've known Rodney for
many years and this is afollow-up to an interview I did
a few years ago but, rodney, youlost your wife, Jennifer a few
years ago, who I had interviewed, and you went through that
tragic thing in your life andyou still went out and wrote the
books and went out to prisons.

(15:46):
How is life now without, uh,jennifer, your partner, uh and
soulmate, uh, and now you're outthere and I think you remarried
, didn't you?

Rodney Williams (15:55):
I did and uh, yeah, we, um, you know, uh, life
, life, we live in a fallenworld, fallen, uh.
You know death comes, you knowyou, just, you just gotta.
That's why christ has got to bepreeminent, you know, uh, you
know he's got to be superior inyour life over your mama, your
brother, your sister and allthings.
You got to put christ in theproper position, uh.

(16:17):
So when you, when you losesomeone, uh, or you got sickness
, you got, whatever hardships, whatever you go through, uh,
christ, christ is there to gowith you through it.
You know what I'm saying.
He is your strength, he's yourempowerment, he's your comforter
, he's everything that you needto get you through that and to
keep serving him and living forhim.

Ron Meyers (16:37):
Rodney, I'm so proud of you and it's a pleasure to
call you my friend because Iknow what you do.
You go down in New Orleans, alot down in the French Quarter,
and talk with people about Jesus.
You're doing so much good workout there.
Before we go today, will youpray for anyone that's listening
, that's dealing with any typeof addiction, whatever it is?

(16:58):
You fill in the blank.
Will you pray for them, please,Father?

Rodney Williams (17:02):
God, we just come before you thanking you
that you love us and youdemonstrated that love through
the cross of Jesus Christ.
Lord, I just pray for thepeople that are out there, god,
that are in the darkness and thebondage of addiction.
Lord, that you'll draw them, call them, that they'll just
release them, release theaddiction and turn and put their

(17:22):
faith and trust in Jesus Christand begin this journey to
trusting you and living for you.
Lord, everything that they need, god, I pray that you'll supply
.
Give them the comfort they need, the joy that they need, and
let them know that you are real, lord.
God, make yourself real to themin Jesus' name Amen.

Ron Meyers (17:43):
When I return Ron's pep talk.

Speaker 5 (18:38):
If you want to reach someone for Jesus Christ, learn
how they think.
Get into their lives instead ofwaiting for them to come to you

God desires to be a part of your life.

God desires to be a part of your life.
It absolutely blows my mindthat the creator of the heavens
and the earth, the King of Kings, wants to be close to us.
Throughout the Bible, god'sdesire for relationship with us
is evident.
Genesis, chapters 2 and 3, wesee not just a creator who

(19:22):
speaks the world into being, buta father who walks with his
children in the cool of the day.
God doesn't want to just bepart of our Sundays.
He wants to walk with us daily,in our homes, our jobs, our
decisions and our relationships.
He desires to shape us not justfor heaven, but for life on
earth today.
He wants to help us becomebetter people, better parents,
better sons and daughters.

(19:43):
Ephesians, chapter 6.
God wants His love and truth tobe the foundation of our homes,
in our speech, our patience, our love and our discipline.
He is eager to guide us if wewill let Him.
Even in hardship, god is withus.
He is for us, not against us.
He desires a relationship withyou, one where he is present in

(20:04):
your parenting, your work, yourdecisions and even in your
mistakes.
If you have not invited Jesusinto your heart, do it today and

Ron Meyers (21:47):
You know, life can sometimes feel like a book with
lots of torn pages filled withchapters that may define us in
ways we do not want to bedefined.
However, I want you to remembertoday that those pages do not
have to dictate your future.
There's an incredible power inrecognizing that, even in our
most broken moments, grace andlove are waiting to lift us up.

(22:09):
When you find yourself in thestorm, feeling overwhelmed,
questioning if anyone cares, hold tight to your faith.
Trust that there is a greaterstory being woven through your
life, even if you can't see itright now.
Each challenge you face is partof the journey, and the pain

(22:31):
often leads to healing.
And it often leads to purposeand, most of all, it will lead
to purpose.
God is present in every detailof your life.
Even when it doesn't make sense, he holds you in the palm of
his hands and his love neverfails.

(22:52):
In your weakest moments, myfriend, lean into that trust.
Know that you are never alone.
He walks with you through everyhigh and low, guiding you to
brighter days.
So, no matter what you'refacing addiction, loss or sorrow
there's hope and healingavailable.

(23:14):
Your story is still beingwritten and it has the potential
to inspire not only you butalso others, to inspire not only
you but also others.
So, to conclude, embrace thatjourney, hold on to hope and
believe that victory is ahead.
Your story matters and you arestronger than you think.

(23:37):
Keep moving forward.
There's a beautiful endingwaiting to unfold, because God
is in your story and it's a bestseller.
