Are your thoughts holding you hostage? Discover the transformative power of taking control of your mind in this eye-opening episode. When we understand that our thought life is the beginning of everything else in our lives, we gain the key to lasting change.

World-renowned teacher Jonathan Cahn reveals profound insights about the Hebrew concept of "Rosh" (head) and how it represents the starting point of our destiny. "Change your Rosh," he explains, "and you change everything else." This ancient wisdom aligns perfectly with modern neuroscience showing how our thoughts physically reshape our brains with every choice we make.

The most liberating truth? Your thoughts don't control you—you control your thoughts. While negative patterns may feel automatic, you possess the God-given authority to redirect your mind. Two people can face identical circumstances yet experience entirely different realities based solely on their internal thought life.

Complementing Cahn's teaching, we explore Zig Ziglar's famous concept of "stinking thinking"—those persistent negative thoughts that, like weeds in a garden, choke out our potential and dreams. Learn practical strategies for uprooting these harmful thought patterns and replacing them with life-giving perspectives that empower rather than diminish.

This isn't merely about positive thinking—it's about aligning your mind with truth. Through disciplined thought life and spiritual renewal, you can experience the transformation promised in Romans 12:2: "Be transformed by the renewing of your mind." Your thoughts determine your destiny. Start rewiring your mind today and watch your life transform from the inside out.

If not, this is the place to betoday, because I want to focus
on having a healthy, productivethought life.
I mean, constantly we're beingbombarded with information and
news.
Everything seems like theworld's going to hell in a
handbasket, but is it?

(00:43):
Is it the things that we thinkthat causes us the chaos in our
life, and can we control ourthoughts?
The answer is yes and yes.
My goal today is to help youthink more clearly, find some
peace in your mind and bringclarity to your life.
I have a sermon part of asermon from a world-renowned
preacher.
I have a sermon part of asermon from a world-renowned

(01:04):
preacher, my friend JonathanKahn, who's going to offer some
insights on renewing yourthought life.
I heard this and I said I haveto share this with my listeners
and then I'll be back and sharesome tips from that great
motivational speaker, zig Ziglar.
But first let's take a momentto listen to Jonathan Cahn on

(01:25):
renewing our thought life.

Speaker 3 (01:28):
So your thought life in God, if you are a child of
God, a minister of God or aservant of God, your thought
life, god wants it consistentwith the rest of your life.
He wants your thoughtsconsistent with your faith.
The problem is when it's not.
But he wants it.
He's giving you the power tolive a thought life that is

(01:49):
consistent with everything elsein your life, not loose, not all
over the place, and by theSpirit you can change your mind.
Do not be conformed to thisworld, but be transformed by the
renewing of your mind that, bytesting, you may discern what is

(02:14):
the will of God, what is goodand acceptable and perfect.
Now, today, we're going to findin the temple of God, from the
garments of the high priest, keys that will give you victory
in one of the most important andcrucial areas of your life.
And to set the stage, I'm goingto show you some keys in the
Hebrew language Everybody touchyour head.

(02:35):
Simon says touch your head.
Shimon says touch your head.
All right, this is in Hebrew.
It's called Rosh.
Say it, your head is your RoshRosh.
Now, that might sound a littlefamiliar, because in Hebrew
you'll hear the word Rosh indifferent ways Rosh Hashanah,

(02:58):
rosh Hashanah, head of the year.
Rosh means head.
It also means the ruler.
The head rules the body.
It also means Rosh means theyear.
Rosh means head.
It also means the ruler.
The head rules the body.
It also means Rosh means thefirst.
It's the head, is the first ofyour body, it's the top.
It also means the beginning.
Rosh Hashanah means the head orbeginning of the year.

(03:20):
It's really not.
It's the beginning of the civilyear, not the sacred year, but
nevertheless, that's what itmeans.
It means beginning your head, your rosh is the beginning.
And see, that's where thingsbegin in your life.
Your thought.
Life is the rosh, is the head, the beginning of everything else
in your life.

(03:40):
Your actions begin with yourRosh, your head.
Your thoughts, your habitsbegin here, rosh beginning.
Your sins begin as well, ordon't begin.
Your resisting temptationbegins.
Your career begins here.
Your marriage begins here.
Your family, your ministrybegins here.
It begins with your Rosh, yourhead, your mind, all that you do

(04:07):
, your habits, course andlifestyle.
Ultimately, your destiny Beginswith what is called in the
Hebrew your beginning, your head, your rosh.
In Greek, the word for mind isthe word psuche.
We get the word psyche from it,which is linked to the soul,
but the soul and the mind arealso linked together in the

(04:28):
Bible the rosh, the head.
One of the words linked to roshin the Bible is the word rishon
.
It comes from the same thing.
It means when you speak of anancestor, you speak of your
ancestors.
Well, the mind, in a sense, iswhat gives birth to the rest of
your life, and so it also.
Another word that comes fromRosh is the word Reshit.

(04:50):
Reshit was like the day of theresurrection last week is called
Yom Reshit, or the day of thefirst fruit.
It means the first fruit, andso your thought, life is the
first fruits of the rest of yourlife.
That's where it comes from andfrom everything that goes forth.
Now there are two parts of yourlife in another sense that which

(05:11):
takes place outside of you, your situation, your world and
that which takes place withinyou, and the two are related,
but the two may also be verydifferent.
Example two people can be inthe same exact circumstance and
yet totally live totallydifferent lives because of
what's going on inside, notoutside.

(05:33):
For instance, one person couldbe in prison and is miserable,
the other's in prison andthey're blessed, like Paul.
What's the difference.
It's what's inside thatdetermines everything else.
Two people can be living in amansion.
One is happy, one is miserable.
It's what's inside, it's what'sgoing in.
The Bible speaks, says thedespondent.

(05:54):
For the despondent, every daybrings trouble.
For the cheerful heart, life islike a continual feast.
You can be the most blessedperson on the outside, but if
inside you have a spirit ofdespondency or anger or
ungratefulness or jealousy orcomplaint or bitterness, your

(06:15):
life is going to be all thatmiserable, bitter, and vice
versa.
You can be the poorest person, but if your heart is blessed,
filled with gratitude, thanksgiving, praise, your life
is going to be one of blessingand riches and fullness.
We think that the outsideaffects the inside.

(06:35):
There's some truth to that, ofcourse, because if this is
happening, I'm sad, or becauseit's happening, I'm happy, or
I'll say how's it going, how'syour day going, and we'll talk
about not inside, we'll talkusually about the outside.
But more important in the Lordis the other flow.
What goes on the inside affectsthe outside, the rest of your
life.
What goes on in your thoughtlife determines the rest of your

(06:59):
life.
If you're divided in yourthought life, your life is going
to be divided.
If you're scattered in yourthought life, your life is going
to be divided.
If you're scattered in yourthought life, you're all over
the place.
Your life is going to bescattered.
If you're always thinking theworst in your mind, your life is
going to be the worst.
It's the Rosh, the beginning, the Rosh, the beginning.

(07:19):
But if you change the beginning, the Rosh, you change
everything else.
But if you change the beginning, the Rosh, you change
everything else.
Change your Rosh, your mind, and you change everything in
your life.
But can you do that?
Your thought life?
We're going to talk about thekeys in the Bible.
How do you view it?
First of all, we often look atour thought life as something
that's kind of out of control.

(07:41):
You know, thoughts come in.
We don't want them Ungodlythoughts, we don't want them
Bitter thoughts, we don't wantthem More like a kind of a
stormy sea.
Well, the first idea we havethat trips us up is that we
don't really have control toreally change our mind, our
thinking.
We have to think this way, because this is the way I think

(08:01):
and this is the way.
This is what I experience.
I don't want to think it, but Ido.
It's kind of like when you'reon the internet and there's a
pop-up and it's like theirthoughts are just kind of pop up
.
And this is the way I tend tothink anyway.
I tend to be critical, or Itend to be to be pessimistic,
anxious thoughts, jealousthoughts, lustful thoughts,
worried thoughts, fearfulthoughts.

(08:22):
Do I have a choice?
Well, your thought life is whatyou're living in every day.
Do you have power to change it?
You may not think you do, butthe answer in the Bible is not.
That's not true at all.
That's not biblical.
The Bible says very clearly youhave power over your mind and
over your thought life.

(08:42):
Listen to what it says Now.
It says your mind and over yourthought life.
Listen to what it says Now.
It says love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, soul,
mind, mind.
Now you think okay, I've heardthat, you know okay, but there's
something radical.
It says love God with your mind.
Now, if somebody says cook ameal in your oven, it's not the
oven that's controlling you.

(09:02):
You are controlling the oven tocook the meal.
So if it says love God withyour mind, it means you have
power over your mind.
Your mind doesn't control you.
You control your mind, yourheart.
The mind is a vessel that youare to use for God.
One of the keys of gainingcontrol of your thought life is

(09:23):
taking responsibility for yourthought life.
Now you might be saying butthoughts just come up.
Thoughts just come up.
I don't know, you know well.
Well, think about something.
Some of you have been tapping.
Some of you are tapping yourhand right now, like this one
right here tapping your hand.
Some of you are.
Are you thinking about that?
No, unless except now you are.
Or some of you are tapping yourfeet or moving right there.

(09:44):
Are you thinking about yourfoot?
No, you're not.
It's just happening.
But you can stomp it.
You can stomp that,no-transcript.
Raise your hand.
How many of you have a tendencyto tap your fingers?
Raise your hand.
How many of you have a tendencyto raise your hands?
All of you are blinking rightnow.
Are you thinking about it?

(10:05):
No, now, you're not.
You are now, but you weren'tthen.
But you have control.
You still have control.
You can stop for a time.
You have control.
So, with your thoughts, it's notreally out of your control, it
out of your control.
It's that.
It's a habit.
And when we do things by habit,we don't think we have control
over it, but it's still theresult of other things that we
did have control over.
If you're going to have victoryin your thought life, you have

(10:26):
to take responsibility for it,that you do have a choice before
God.
Now sometimes people say, well, you made me feel this, you made
me feel this, you made me feelthis.
Well, we understand, people saythings and it triggers you, but
ultimately you can't just keepsaying that people are making
you feel this or making youthink this.
Otherwise you're saying youhave no control and you're a
victim of circumstance.

(10:47):
But in God you're not a victim,you're a victor.
Next thing, next importanttruth here the mind is not fixed
.
The mind is not fixed.
The mind is changing.
In fact, it changes more thanany other part of the body.
It actually changes every day.
Every time you think a thought, you're affecting your mind.

(11:09):
Every time you think a thought, you're literally changing.
When you think a thought, Imean physically you're sending
an electrical impulse along acertain line, a connection there
, and every time you do ityou're strengthening it.
Every time you don't do it,you're weakening it.
So if you want to change, youhave to choose to go against an
old course.

(11:30):
Now the thing is, the more thatsomething harder for you to
think in a new way, the morethat when you overcome it's
going to be a greater change inyour life, the more you resist
the temptation.
Let's say you resist thetemptation.
It's hard to do it once, butthe first time you do it it
makes it a little bit easier todo it the second time, and the

(11:51):
second time more.
Third time, fourth, same thinggoes the other way.
You give in to a sin First time.
You may be thinking first timeyou ever did so.
Well, you're thinking, you'reback and forth, but when you
then give in, it gets easier togo in to do it again.
We tend you know it says, itsays in philippians whatever is
lovely and good and excellent.
Let your mind dwell on thesethings and god's peace will

(12:16):
guard your heart and mind.
We tend to think that ourthoughts come from our mind, and
there is a truth to that.
But the greater truth here isthat your mind is determined by
your thoughts as well.
In other words, the more youchoose, it'll actually affect
your mind and it will affectyour course of your mind and
your habits and your entireattitude by what you choose.

(12:41):
Now we need some real keys thatcan revolutionize your thought
life, from the high priest, thechief minister of Israel.
He's the example of someonewho's dedicated to God, living
for God, supposed to doing hiswill.
He had the garments.
He had to have these specialhigh priestly garments, as you
know the breastplate and allthose things.

(13:02):
But there was one particularone Exodus 39, 30, you can just
listen and they made the plateof the holy crown of pure gold.
The high priest first on him,or the crowning him, is
literally a crown.
The high priest first on him,or the crowning him, is
literally a crown.
The high priest wears a goldencrown around his head, his rosh.

(13:27):
The first thing it says is thatthe crown of gold.
It's consistent with the restof his garments.
It's also consistent with aholy place.
He's ministering in a place ofgold garments.
It's also consistent with aholy place.
He's ministering in a place ofgold.
So your thought life in God, ifyou are a child of God, a
minister of God or a servant ofGod, your thought life, god

(13:51):
wants it consistent with therest of your life.
He wants your thoughtsconsistent with your faith.
The problem is when it's not.
But he wants it.
He's giving you the power tolive a thought life that is
consistent with everything elsein your life, not loose, not all
over the place and by theSpirit you can change your mind.
Now one of the words in Greek Igave you a word in Hebrew, a

(14:11):
word in Greek is the wordmetanoia.
Try it, very different fromHebrew.
You know metanoia.
Metanoia is the word used forrepentance in the New Testament.
You know what it means.
Metanoia change your mind.
So the Bible says what isrepentance when you change your

(14:32):
mind.
When we say change your mind,we're saying like I'm changing
my opinion, but literally it canactually change your mind.
Repentance is to have adifferent mind.
Ephesians 4 says.
23 says be renewed in thespirit of your mind.
Be not conformed to this world, but be transformed by the

(14:56):
renewing of your mind.
Notice something you can betransformed by starting with
what?
Your mind.
If your mind is renewed, yourlife is transformed.
We're told to have the mind ofMessiah.
Now how do you do it?
Well, when you have the spiritof Messiah and you're living in

(15:16):
the spirit of Messiah, it'sgoing to affect your mind, to
ultimately lead you to have themind of Messiah, and that means
you start actually thinking thethoughts of Messiah.
You know we have the braceletsthey have.
What would Jesus do?
How about what would Jesusthink?
Because when it starts with himthinking you're going to do
what Jesus would do.
How about what would Jesusthink?
Because when it starts with himthinking you're going to do

(15:40):
what Jesus would do.
If you think what Jesus thinks, you might have a very messy
thought life, might be all overthe place, but the good news is,
the more you choose to focusyour thoughts on the Word of God
, on the love of God, on thereality of God's goodness, and
the more you're led by theSpirit, the more it's going to
become your thought life.
You're called the disciple.

(16:00):
Well, disciple is the worddiscipline in it.
Now, the thing is that we areto not only be—discipline means
we are to live a disciplinedlife.
Disciplined thought life ispowerful, is focused.
Paul had a.
Not that he was perfect, but hehad a disciplined thought life.
He was focused.
So scripture says God has notgiven us a spirit of fear, but

(16:25):
of power, of love and of a soundmind, which also is translated
as self-control.
A sound mind, that means takingcharge.
What does it say?
Take every thought captive.
And also it says listen to whatPeter said.
Peter said gird up the loins ofyour minds.

(16:46):
Now that's a strange thing.
What is girding up?
What is girding up?
Girding up is back then theydidn't wear clothes like we do.
They wore robes or looseclothes.
But if you're running or you'regoing to do some work, you've
got to gird it up, you've got totie it around you.
That's what girding up is.
You tie it up so you can run,so the robe won't trip you up.

(17:09):
Well, if you have a messy, youknow, out of control, not
disciplined thought life, it'sgoing to trip you up.
It's like loose.
So Peter is saying gird up yourmind, gird up your thoughts,
take charge, reign it in.
You're in charge of them, it'snot in charge of you.
The mind is to be used of God,it's to be used for holy things,

(17:32):
as in the crown of the highpriest.
You have power.
Notice that command.
Love the Lord with all yourmind, not some of your mind.
That means you've got controlover all your mind.
The enemy might throw things inand the world throw things in,
but you have the power to castthat down.

Speaker 2 (17:52):
When I return, no more stinking thinking.

Speaker 1 (17:56):
You're listening to Get the Hell Out of your Life
with your host, ron Myers.
Real stories, real strugglesand real hope.

Speaker 5 (18:06):
In a world filled with uncertainty, it's easy to
lose sight of our purpose anddestiny.
But when we anchor our heartsin a relationship with Jesus,
everything changes.
My name is Mark and this is theJourney.
Jesus becomes our true sourceof hope, our guide towards the
purpose in our life and the onewho shapes our destiny.

(18:28):
Hebrews 6, verse 19 says wehave this hope, jesus as an
anchor for the soul, firm andsecure.
You know the storms of lifewill come, but Jesus is our
unshakable anchor.
When we place our trust in Himwe are securely tethered to His
love, his wisdom and His perfectplan.

(18:48):
Proverbs 16, verse 4 reminds usthe Lord works out everything
to its proper end.
This means your life has truemeaning.
God has a purpose for you, areason.
You are here today, and througha relationship with Jesus that
purpose begins to unfold.
So when you feel lost oruncertain, echo the words of

(19:10):
David in Psalm 39.
My hope is in you, o Lord.
In Jesus you are not forgotten.
You are called, loved anddestined for a life that
glorifies Him.

Speaker 6 (19:31):
Here's a refreshing word just for you today.
It comes from the book ofHebrews, chapter 13, verse 8.
Jesus Christ is the sameyesterday, today and forever.
Be refreshed today.

Speaker 4 (19:47):
You're tired of how you're living.
We'll change it.
You don't like where you'reheaded?
Rearrange it.
You're sick of being let down.

Speaker 1 (20:00):
You want to turn your life around.
If you want to start livingright, get the hell out of your
life.

Speaker 2 (20:10):
Get the hell out of your life.
Get the hell out of your life,as we just heard from Jonathan
Cahn, that if we have scatteredideas and scattered thought life
, it just brings chaos in ourlife.
So I want to take a moment tochat about something that I know
resonates with so many of uswhat Zig Ziglar famously called

(20:30):
stinking thinking.
You know those negativethoughts that creep into our
minds and weigh us down.
Life can throw a lot at us, andit's easy to fall into a trap
of self doubt, pessimism andthat nagging inner critic that
tells us hey, we're not enough.
Zig used to say that ourthoughts are like a garden If we

(20:52):
don't tend to it, weeds ofnegativity will take over,
choking out the beautifulflowers that represent our
dreams and potential.
Think about it.
How many times have you foundyourself caught in a cycle of
negative thinking?
Maybe you've faced setbacks atwork.
Struggles in relationships arejust an overwhelming sense of

(21:15):
uncertainty.
It's in these moments thatstinking thinking can really
take root.
But here's the truth you and Ihave the power to change our
thoughts.
Zig always encouraged us toreplace those negative thoughts
with positive affirmations.
To replace those negativethoughts with positive

(21:35):
affirmations.
It's about shifting our mindset.
Instead of saying I can't dothis, try saying I'm capable and
I can learn.
This small shift can changeperspective and open up a world
of possibilities.
I want to encourage you to bemindful of your internal
dialogue and when you catchyourself falling into that

(21:56):
stinking thinking trap, pausefor a moment.
Acknowledge those thoughts, butdon't let them define you.
Ask yourself what's a morepositive way to look at this
situation, or what would Jesusthink?
You might be surprised at howquickly your mindset can shift.

(22:16):
Remember we are all works inprogress.
Zig Ziglar taught us thatsuccess is not just about what
we achieve.
It's about who we become in theprocess.
So let's commit to nurturingour minds, planting seeds of
positivity, uprooting thatstinking thinking, and meditate.

(22:39):
Preach to ourselves thosepositive affirmations.
Together, you and I well, wecan create a life filled with
hope, joy and endlesspossibilities.
You've got this, and if youever find yourself struggling,
just remember you are not alone.
We're all on this journeytogether, working to cultivate a

(23:02):
mindset that empowers us toreach our fullest potential.
Let's keep encouraging eachother to think positively and
embrace the beautiful journeyahead.

Speaker 7 (23:14):
Some of us are building highways, not with our
hands, but with our hearts.
We're on a journey that doesn'thave an end.
It's a rough road, but we knowthat someday it will be worth
every rugged mile.
Why don't you join us?
We're the Christians.
Now, I know you've heard a lotof weird things about us most of
it not true.
We don't really care.
We just know that we're goingto live forever and we can have

(23:35):
an abundant life along the way.
Jesus is our guide on thisjourney called life, and he said
that he came to give us lifethat goes on forever and an
abundant life.
Hey, it's a toll free highway.
Jesus already paved the way.
All we have to do is come onboard.
You don't have to be religious, you don't have to be perfect.
You just have to accept thefact that Jesus already bridged
the way to heaven.
Then you have to put him behindthe wheel, but when you finally

(23:57):
let go and let Jesus take over,it's amazing how you find the
journey a lot more peaceful, because life without Jesus is
kind of like going four-wheelingon a skateboard.
Take some time to learn aboutJesus.
You'll find out how he canbuild an eternal highway in your
heart.

Speaker 5 (24:14):

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

I’m Jay Shetty host of On Purpose the worlds #1 Mental Health podcast and I’m so grateful you found us. I started this podcast 5 years ago to invite you into conversations and workshops that are designed to help make you happier, healthier and more healed. I believe that when you (yes you) feel seen, heard and understood you’re able to deal with relationship struggles, work challenges and life’s ups and downs with more ease and grace. I interview experts, celebrities, thought leaders and athletes so that we can grow our mindset, build better habits and uncover a side of them we’ve never seen before. New episodes every Monday and Friday. Your support means the world to me and I don’t take it for granted — click the follow button and leave a review to help us spread the love with On Purpose. I can’t wait for you to listen to your first or 500th episode!
