We sure do.
Joining the triumvirate that isJaybird Big Dog and the roving

And who may that be?
Well, it's none other than theUVA head men's lacrosse coach,
our teammate, our captain, ourfriend Lars.

(02:27):
Yes, Tiffany.
Beautiful.
Welcome, Lars.
It's, it's, it's not great to behere.
Absolutely.
Wish I wasn't talking to youguys.
Wish I was getting ready.
Be at Hofstra or Annapolisplaying a Quarterfinal game.
Getting ready for the finalfour.
But this is a pretty goodConstellation prize to be.
There you go.

(02:47):
A do Ron Dog leash.
And Jamie, for people who do notknow, and I've been having to
throw this out, left, right andcenter, UVA was in the last six
years.
Four final fours, two nationalchampionships.
So suck it.
Everybody else out there now,we'll just say the same for the
last seven years.
Whatever.
It's kind of old.
That's quite a record.

(03:08):
It's quite a good, I don't thinkthat's the best record in the
last six years.
We're just not gonna count theseventh.
I, I, I appreciate that, Jay.
And I'm grateful for it and forall those guys on those teams,
but that's old news.
All right, let's talk about2025.
Alright.
Let's do it.
Let's do it.
I mean, Jay, I was thinking,Lars, you, you must, you quickly
said yes'cause you're a goodfriend and you love to talk the

(03:29):
cross with us, and then I'm sureyou're sitting there tonight.
Boy, it really is sinking onthat this is the lull of the
2025 season that I am nowtalking to these guys instead of
preparing for a 2025 game.
This must really hit home nowabout really?
Come on.
Yes.
Come on.
I should.
I should have taken doors oneand two, but here we are behind
door number three.

(03:51):
This will be motivation for nextyear.
Absolutely.
Oh boy.
Right.
Lars is gonna hang up and go,God, I never want to do this
again On the quarter weekend,coach.
Coach Tiffany's been a guestduring the season.
He could have very well done itduring the season in the
playoffs.
Come on.
Come on.
Alright, Jay?
Yes, Ron.
I believe that I had suggestedwe start off with a little speed

(04:11):
round of questions to share ourvarious impressions from the
first round.
I am ready with a couple ofquestions.
Jay, I hope you are as well.
I sure am.
Why don't you jump on it first.
Oh, I'm, I'm sure that's yourplan.
Who gentlemen was your topperformer?
Who was the most impressiveperformance, individual

(04:32):
performance that you saw inplayoff games?
And notice my language here.
Playoff games that happened inmen's lacrosse this past
weekend.
Can I go first?
Ours as your guest.
As our guest.
We're gonna allow you to gofirst.
Most impressive performance.

(04:52):
Oh boy.
I mean, I, could it be anyonedifferent than Aiden Carroll?
Come on.
That was mine.
Ah, what he did for the HoyaSaxa, I mean, six goals.
I mean, you're talking about aDuke defense that was only given
up about seven or eight goalsover the last half, the second
half of the season.
And he got six himself, youknow, scoring with multiple ways

(05:13):
and scoring high, I mean, incredible performance by Aidan
Carroll.
Yeah.
At one point, like the game thatI, that I picked successfully, I
might add.
Nice Ron, one of the few.
Yeah.
Yeah, at one point he scoredlike five goals in a row, or
maybe it was six, I forget, butit was nine to seven.
And they're like, Aiden Carrollhas scored the last five goals
in a row for Georgetown.

(05:35):
And then he had two assist andthen he finished with six.
I mean, holy cow.
Six and two.
And actually I'll throw inanother little tidbit that I got
right off the broadcast that Iwas watching.
He had 10 points in the Big Eastchampionship game.
So 18 points in the last twogames.
Whoa.
Hard to argue with that one.

(05:55):
And I, I will just say I wasincredibly impressed with that
Georgetown team.
They just seem to be tougher.
They seem to want it more to goon the road at Duke who seem,
you know, we all, we talked lastweek about Lars, how those Duke
teams kind of halfway throughthe season, especially this
year, you know, the Duke barelymakes the tournament and, but

(06:18):
you kind of figure they're,they're definitely playing well
down the stretch, but Georgetownjust took it to'em.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Kevin Warren's teams are, they're comfortable in the, in
NCAA tournament, having won theBig East tournaments seven times
in a row.
They're now in very familiarterritory in the quarter of
finals this next week.
This game coming up though, thatgetting them in the final four
has been over 25 years.

(06:39):
So this has been their, this hasbeen their Waterloo.
Can they get through the quarterof finals?
Right.
We'll see the analysis for next.
Jay, I love that Lars has forcedyou to pick someone else as your
top performer.
Putting a little pressure offyou, you right off the bat.
Well, I think gr selfie's next.
Ron, let him go right ahead.
Alright.
Giving, giving Jay a little timeto scramble.

(06:59):
Is Jay's top performer gonnahave anything to do with
lacrosse?
That's the question.
I, well, I I don't really knowanybody's names, so I gotta give
a hat tip to Mike Ganon down atAtlanta, who recognized the
referees in Syracuse were thetop performers because it's
always fun to watch Harvardlose.
And I think they did everythingthey could to help, help with
that effort.

(07:21):
Brood my big upset pit of thepick of the week.
I was right there with that oneuntil you got Domer.
They got totally domed up there.
That was incredible.
Fish by the stripes, Ron, thatwas thence between you and Jay.
You, you got, you went six foreight last week and Jay edged
you by one and, and you, youwould've tied it.
And Harvard scored the gamewinner in overtime.

(07:44):
That's really gonna hurt Ron.
Huh?
Tell us how you feel losingagain.
It's early in the, it's early inthe playoffs.
Jay.
I have not yet begun to fight.
Yeah.
Well, I'll go with if I'm upChris Kavanaugh and Jake Taylor.
That offensive performance bythe fighting Irish of Notre Dame

(08:04):
was rather impressive.
I, I was really kinda shockedthat they were able to just
explode like that over an OSUteam that you know, I believe I
picked to win, but didn'thappen.
I.
The only game I didn't pick thatis an amazing defense at Ohio
State put on the field here inthe 2025 season.
We managed to score all of fivegoals against them in Columbus,

(08:25):
Ohio in February.
And throughout the season, theykept proving how staunchy they
could be, you know, backed bythe big tasty Caleb Fok, right.
And in a 2 97 but then Bobby VanBuren cool.
I mean, they had some amazingdefense in front of them.
So that, that, that was, I mean, for Notre Dame to put up 13
goals and then a, obviously acouple empty enters or whatever

(08:46):
at the end there.
But that was a really, reallystrong performance by that Notre
Dame attack in midfield.
Yeah, I think that was my mostsurprising result of the
weekend.
Not that Notre Dame won, butthe, the way they dominated that
game.
I mean, we talked about howthat, that had all the makings
of kind of the game of theweekend, that one right.
But, but you know, I, I hadpicked Notre Dame in that game

(09:09):
and I, and I kind of struggledto, but it was because you know,
Kevin Corrigan this time ofyear, much like Coach Warren,
only Kevin's gone a littlefarther.
He had his own long journey toget, get that championship.
But man alive, he just seems tohave his teams ready to play.
Right.
And for Ohio State, I mean, theyhad a huge crowd.

(09:30):
I mean, it looked like an ama,so much energy, you could just
feel it.
And and they were playing reallywell early and then you just
gotta believe it's, it's theplayoff thing.
You know, they just started kindof, they couldn't answer Notre
Dame.
They started like whiteknuckling it.
They started, a lot of thingsjust started going wrong and
everything's going right forNotre Dame.
Like there was goals off theride.
There was a couple fluky goals.

(09:51):
Like there was a rebound and bigtaste.
It came out.
I don't know why he did that.
It came out of the goal to getit as if he's like the first
candidate to pick up a looseball.
And then the ball got loose andthe guy picked Kavanaugh goose
it to somebody who picked it upand put it right in.
So it was like God, here we go.
Great.
Right, right.
And then Lynch at the faceoff Xit was a little bit of make it
take it there for a stretch aswell, you know?

(10:12):
Right.
Just keep putting more pressureon that Ohio State defense.
It makes a difference.
You know, I've been fortunateenough to, to have had some some
runs in May and it makes adifference when you're playing a
team that also has had thosesame runs.
You know, when we run into aNotre Dame or Maryland versus
teams that haven't.
You know, and that, thatexperience in May makes a big
difference, right?
No doubt.
It's like, can you keep yourcool when the pressure's on and

(10:34):
if you haven't been therebefore, most teams, the answer's
no.
I mean, there's nobody on thatOhio State team that has been
anywhere near the team that wentto the finals, you know, back 10
years ago.
So crazy.
Ron, what's next?
Damn, I gonna be allowed to givemy performer the week, or are
you just gonna keep going on?
And that's the little nudgethat, Ron, it's your turn.

(10:54):
If you'd like to.
Alright, well, Jay, I'm gonna,I'm gonna give you a little
division three flavor.
I know coach Tiffany watchedsome Division three playoffs,
broaden our right and as youall, as the, as the friends of
the show, the listeners of theshow will know.
My youngest brother Scott is thehead coach at RPI.
They had a big win little dog.

(11:17):
They won two big games to get tothe Elite eight.
And on Sunday they beat thenumber five Wesleyan team 14 to
10 impression, and their faceoff, their their lead.
Faceoff, faceoff SpecialistSpecialist.
Thank you, Jay.
You're welcome.
Thank you.
Number 25, Angelo Venuto.

(11:37):
Venuto the biggest in thebiggest game of the year.
Yeah.
Angelo Venuto, who might alsomake Steve Za name team won
89.5% of the face offs againstthe number five team in the
country.
That's incredible.
Wesleyan on Sunday to lead histeam to victory.
Lars, talk about make it, takeit, I mean, this guy just

(12:00):
dominated at the X.
It's a deadly combination whenthey've got such an experienced
and talented goalie in the cageup at RPI with Perry, and then
you combine that with a face-offprowess.
How do you beat that team?
And, and, and obviously, wow, what a gift, you know, from his
old coach, coach Webster takingdown Salsbury Oh, oh man, no

(12:21):
longer is Salsbury in that sideof the bracket.
Crazy.
They got an upstart Dickinsonteam.
There's no, there's no gimme, you know, but the gorilla's gone
and now pupil versus teacher.
That's amazing.
Yeah, I looked, I, I had to lookit up at Salsbury being 20 and
Oh, the only loss.
They only had a few one goalgames actually the whole year

(12:41):
too.
And I looked that up.
Yeah.
One goal game against CNU andone goal game against
Gettysburg.
So, yeah.
But no, no losses.
So impressive for webby gettingthat done.
Jay, do you have a question forus?
Do you have a, a, a round robinquestion for us about the first
weekend or would you like me tocontinue?

(13:03):
Ron, you can continue.
Thank you.
So you didn't do anything.
Thank you.
I have pages full of notes here,Ron.
Well, yeah, you said you woulddo the, we learned all about
your notes last week, howimpressive they were.
All right.
Here's a question for everyone.
Who's the top defensive player?
You know, you're a defenseman.
Ron, Lars Tiffany, here, boy.

(13:23):
A, a CC coach of the year, timestwo.
Let's see if we can come up witha defensive player of the
weekend.
Hmm.
Ooh, I wasn't prepared for thisone.
Dog is speechless as usual.
Well, you gave it to Lars.
That true?

(13:44):
I'm, I'm gonna go, I'll, I'llgive you guys some time to think
about it.
And, and I'm gonna go with theOhio State goalie just based on
his nickname alone.
Big, tasty.
That has to be all nicknameteam.
Big tasty.
Absolutely.
I mean, he gave up 15 goals andthat's okay.
He only, and look, he's listedat 2 97 in, in the media guide.

(14:06):
That means he's at least three15.
Right?
Right.
Exactly.
Yeah.
Look, I'm gonna go I'm gonna gowith Sean Light at Notre Dame.
I mean, I think we just talkedabout look at Jay shaking his
head because is that a realchoice, Ron?
I mean, come on.
Everybody knows Sean Light, butAll right, go ahead, go with it.
Let's hear your reasoning.
Well.

(14:30):
Ladies and gentlemen, it's, it'sreally covering, you can tell,
you can tell we're coming to theend of the season where patience
is running thin between thecohosts creative, creative
differences boiling over.
Well, Jay, I was gonna say, we,I believe we were just talking
about how impressive that NotreDame win was, and while you say

(14:51):
things just started going wrong,I think the Notre Dame defense
has made quite a reputation ofitself, especially late in the
season where they tighten up andtoughen up, and Sean Lights
clearly the leader of thatdefense at Notre Dame.
And so, Jay, yes.
I'm gonna give him the performerof the week on defense.

(15:12):
Oh boy.
I'm gonna go with Richmond's ownHunter Smith.
Number six.
Ooh.
Big strong defenseman moves wellusually has the toughest
matchups against the opponents.
And, you know, and, and it's notthat Owen Duffy and Dom Petal
didn't score at all.
You know, those guys are gonnaget their goals, but, you know,

(15:33):
I thought Hunter Smith and a,and a really strong defensive
effort kept a really highpowered jt.
John Thompson run offense forthe Carolina Tar Heels.
Kept him at bay.
And so I'm gonna go with HunterSmith.
Nice.
Beautiful.
Yeah, he's really good.
I was thinking, who, what's thename of the guy on Richmond?
Who's number six?

(15:53):
That's, you thought it?
That's it.
It's Hunter Smith.
Nice.
That's the guy.
Beautiful.
Jay, are you gonna answer yourown question, Ron?
I had quite a large number ofcomments.
I'm not sure if I need to justgoing on and on here, but.
I'm gonna go with Douglas fromMaryland, who is just a four,

(16:16):
no, it's McDonald McDo.
McDo 51.
Zach McDonald.
McDonald.
That's it.
He's a beast.
Jay's doing a great jobanswering his own question.
Doesn't even know the name, theplayer he's choosing.
You know Ron Jay?
You know who I meant, doctor?
And he can't read his ownhandwriting.
Exactly.
He has, he has a lot of notes.

(16:36):
This is, this is kind of likehis, this is kind of like his
Hall of fame speech at Brown.
I can't speak my own most.
Exactly, exactly.
People loved it, Jack peopleloved that vulnerability.
Jack McDonald.
He's a beast.
There you go.
Alright, next questiongentlemen.
What was your most impressiveteam performance?

(16:57):
Who were you most impressed withas a team in those first round
games?
Who goes first?
Ron Jay.
You go ahead.
You take this one.
I.
Oh, nice.
I'm going with G Town.
The HOAs, they came to play.
I mean they were like on fire.
They, the game started and itwas like, is this some sort of a
track meet?

(17:17):
I mean they just were out of,you know, as soon as that gun
sounded, they were up andrunning and they did not stop.
And Duke was really back ontheir heels, give'em some
credit.
They tied it up, I think it wasseven to seven at halftime, but
they were just so fired up andthey were not gonna be sitting
back waiting for anything.
They just went after it.

(17:38):
And then when push came toshove, they retook the lead.
And and strangely, I do rememberthis, and I even took a note of
it.
There was almost seven minutesleft in the game.
Duke is down by like four, Ithink it was 13 to nine.
They're down by four.
The six, literally six minutesand like 50 seconds left in the
game.
And they start doubling with thegoalie out of the goal.

(17:59):
That was odd.
I don't know that I've ever seenthat before.
And that didn't go so well.
'cause the Hoya scored off ofthat and then they did it again.
And the Hoya scored after that.
And next thing you know, theywere poop outta luck.
So interesting.
Hoya a dominant performance.
Well, these long pauses arekilling us.
We, we can't have it.
Come on.

(18:19):
I, I, I know.
Can you edit those out?
They're tough to edit out.
Can we go for half a game orthree quarters of a game?
'cause I to do all about thecrimson.
I mean, what Harvard was doing,oh my god.
I know they were killing'em.
I it was eight to two.
You know, I mean, they're justdemolishing Syracuse who just
won the a CC Right.
Coming in hot.
Right.
And it's crazy.
And Syracuse knows Harvard.
They already played onceearlier.

(18:41):
Syracuse is winning every faceoff.
Johnny Mullen is just dominatingthe face off acts.
Yeah.
And yet it's a landslide.
Right.
Until the fourth quarter, untilthat fateful one minute.
Non releasable penalty thatresults in three goals for the
orange as they score five and 99seconds.
Oh my God.
Ugh.
What a swing.
And then right before that,Harvard or Syracuse looked like

(19:03):
they were supposed to be down bythree players.
It was clear, and they werelike, it was like a salt and
battery.
It was just like bing bang, boom.
Three different fouls.
And then they talked it over andthey only made it two fouls and
they made it a minute and ahalf.
And then when, when Harvard wasbeing, you know having a foul
against them, it was like a twominute non releaseable or

(19:24):
whatever it was like, what isgoing on here for a much less
penalty?
I think we know what was goingon here.
Can I choose?
Don't comment.
Not the comment, Steve, youknow, just in case the head of
Officiating or other of Lars.
Don't worry.
Nobody's listening to thispodcast.
I think you're safe.
I might Ed, we have quite alistenership.

(19:46):
Every, everyone, I'm justkidding.
We got a loyal listenership thatwe're very proud of and very
appreciative of.
My my top performer this weekendbecause, you know, my, my
television was just aconglomeration of playoff games.
I'm gonna have to pick the NewYork Knicks.
I mean, they, hell punching overtheir weight, Ron.

(20:07):
And you know, I, I really can'tdiscern, I don't even know what
sport I'm watching anymore, butI gotta hand it to the Knicks,
right?
The Knicks do have people veryconcerned in the New England
area about the Celtics team theythought was about to repeat.
I'm gonna go with, you know, well, I know maybe it wasn't the

(20:30):
toughest of first round matchupswhen you go out and score 22
goals.
The Princeton Tigers, I thinkhad a very impressive opening
round win.
Tucker Wade, the son of a guy heused to play with play against
at Severn, Ryan Wade's son whoplayed played at Carolina.

(20:50):
You know, our own Peter Bonanowas one and two in that game.
But I, I just, I think thisPrinceton team is impressive,
man.
I, I know I said last week whenI watched the Ivy Championship.
Yeah, Cornell ran away with withthat game at the end.
But Princeton had someimpressive runs in that game
against Cornell, the top team inthe country.
And I think this is a very, verydangerous team.

(21:11):
And so I was very impressed withPrinceton.
Nice.
Nice.
You're here.
Agreed.
Yet again, another enormouspause in the middle of the
broadcast.
I think we've all answered thatone.
You're right.
I've lost track.
Okay.
How about Jay?
Should we make this our finalround robin question?

(21:32):
Or if you have another afterthis?
I, I, here's mine, please, Ron.
Make it the last, I guess wecan't refer to this as the
lightning round anymore.
No.
Right?
No, it's this, nobody, nobody inthis group really gives
lightning round answers, Steve.
But you can call it whatever youwant.
But all right.
Who was the most disappointingteam to you?

(21:53):
Ooh, round.
That's a great question.
Ron.
Steve, you go first.
Was it the Celtics?
I was, I, I'm gonna go based onwho I was rooting for and I had,
I, I had hoped that NorthCarolina was gonna win, so I'm,
I'm, I'm not gonna say I wasdisappointed in their
performance, but I'mdisappointed that they didn't
win.

(22:13):
Well said.
Coach Tiffany.
I, I, I'm, I'm, I'm again, whatis the viewership?
What is the readership of this?
I'm feeling a little careful.
Certain.
I wanna be putting out some sortof violent and hate on some some
I didn't say hate.
I just said, you know, put itthis way.
Which team do you think was mostdisappointed, Lars?

(22:36):
Oh, what team was mostdisappointed?
All right, well, he's thinkingabout that jump.
That's gotta jump, right?
Ooh, go ahead Jay.
That's rough.
Should I, Lars, jump in.
I'm just gonna say UNC too, because they looked so good
early in the year and I think, you know, whatever.
One thing led to another, youhad some players a little banged
up playing through it.

(22:57):
But they just lost theirmomentum.
And I was happy to see, youknow, living here in Richmond,
Virginia, see the University ofRichmond get their first win.
That was great.
But I did kind of feel like, ugh, UNC, that was disappointing
'cause they had a few losses.
I went down to that Notre Damegame and they were winning in
that game, four to nothing aswell.
And then they just couldn'thandle it when you know, Notre

(23:19):
Dame came back and they couldn'thandle it, obviously when
Richmond came back as well.
So there, I'm done.
Yeah, a little bit of a stretchof an answer.
I'm gonna say Colgate, you know, that's a team they really
thought they could beat PennState.
They've beaten Penn State inHappy Valley the year before and
then they played again earlierthis year in loss.
But they, you know, Colgateplays a very untraditional type
of style of defense that can bevery confusing and it did

(23:41):
confuse the Penn State offensefor much of the game.
And that was a close game.
It was a tie game.
And then they had a fail clearwith about three minutes left
that allowed Penn State to getthe ball back and, boy, what a
heck of a play.
They scored on to to win thatgame.
But that, that, that, thatColgate team, you know, yeah.
They're the upstarts.
You know, you could say nothingto lose, but I think they had a

(24:01):
lot to lose because they reallybelieved they could get outta
Happy Valley and head to thequarterfinals.
But a valiant effort thatwould've been a shocker.
The Turner, what they, what theyhave an attack there is so
impressive.
Yeah.
Two man Hasset guys.
Two long Islanders.
Yeah.
Right.
And Colin Monroe running thatoffense.
Oh, right.
Yes.
They were, they were up two zipearly, and then I think it was

(24:23):
tied all the way to the, likeyou're saying, till like three
minutes left in the fourthquarter.
That was a hell of a game.
It really was.
Yeah.
What, what is their defenselodge?
'cause you were saying that wewere doing that little group
chat and you were like, it'ssuch an uncon, unconventional d
Yeah, it's it's, it's a zonethat has a lot of man principles
of it.
So I might follow my cutter allthe way through the defense,

(24:44):
even though it's truly a zone.
I'm just assuming I'm notpassing off that cutter.
I go with that cutter for a lotof the way, and then someone
else replaces my spot in thezone.
Wow.
It's, it's, it's reallydifferent.
You just, you know, there's, attimes you can't find an opening
and other times like, why isthat guy wide open?
Because it's complex to run, nopressure behind the goal, so you
get the ball behind the goal andhave your hands free.

(25:06):
But man, they were riding thewave of a hot goalie.
They had 24 saves and a hugeupset over army.
And and so when you got a goalieback behind that thing, it's,
it's difficult to punch it in.
As we were talking last weekabout you know, Colgate, we were
talking about the heartbreak ofArmy and Coach Alberici not
getting in.
Yeah.
And.
How much the game continues togrow, that, you know, Colgate

(25:28):
comes through, has a huge upset, wins the Patriot League.
They're not even the favorite intheir conference, and they're
taking Penn State right to thethreshold.
Mm-hmm.
You know, and so you just, thecompetitiveness of the game and
how it continues to grow that'swhat made it a really
impressive, fun weekend.
Right.
And that was a team that CoachTiffany's, UVA Wahoos beat, I

(25:52):
think it was 19 to nine.
So it's just amazing to seethese scores all over the place.
Yeah, it was, it was a goodopening day.
Jay, maybe we should have endedthere.
Wanna know?
I'm going on vacation, so.
Alright, next question.
Next question.
Oh, no, God, I, I haven'tanswered.
Thank you Jay.
Good Lord could keep track ofall this, but I, I am gonna back

(26:13):
Dogless mania.
It's chaos as usual.
I'm go back to the the UNC tarhills as well.
I mean, I think, you know, a fewweeks ago this was a team that
was looking like a nationalchampionship team.
You just wonder how banged up.
I know Jay, you had some insideorthopedic scoop that was not
really scoop because everybodyin the lacrosse media was
talking about it, but I don'tthink so.

(26:34):
It, it just makes you wonder howbanged up Owen.
Owen Duffy.
Petra were because they just didnot look like the same team,
especially offensively.
I mean, there were some gameswhere when those two were
clicking and they have someother parts, and you know, Lars,
I know you can attest to that.
And it, it just seemed like thisteam had a very disappointing

(26:55):
finish.
And of course we love CoachBrush and John Thompson up there
and Rob Gutile and, and youknow, Dave Petra running their
defense.
I mean, that's a hell of acoaching staff.
No doubt.
I know it used to be like whenpush came to shove at the end of
those games, Duffy or Petrawould just go right by his guy
and score, like when they neededto respond, that's what would
happen.

(27:16):
And it just seemed like theywere just like a little slower
and they were actually goingwith their mids a lot,
initiating with mids on Shorttsticks behind the goal, which
they were not doing that earlierin the year.
So it makes you think they kindof had to do it so.
Yeah, yeah.
To the, to the tune of 18 goals.
We certainly felt their fullforce.
You know, so I know a DuffyPetra and that crew of English

(27:37):
and Spencer Heim CadenHarshberger, Ryan Levy, you
know, son of, mm-hmm.
Weapons lacrosse coach.
And, and it's, it's a hell of anoffensive unit.
I, I, I really do give credit toRichmond.
You know, we've played them andthey, and lost to them as well
this year.
They, they Paul Richards, adefense coordinator there does
an amazing job of that defense.
And year in, year out, it's socohesive as a team.

(27:59):
They don't really worry too muchabout the individual matchups.
But I, I give them a lot ofcredit for stymieing that UNC
offense.
Yeah.
They're super consistent.
It's unbelievable.
Very disciplined spiders.
Yeah.
So, Jay, we're gonna move on atthis point in the podcast from
Mar, is everybody non lightning, lightning round, as long as
everybody's ready.

(28:22):
I see thumbs up all around.
I think Jay, at this point we'regonna take, we, we, you know, I
forced us to touch a little biton the Division III tournament,
but Lars, I know you took in alittle Division iii lacrosse,
playoff lacrosse over theweekend, and why don't you tell
us about the game you watched, what you saw, and, and what you

(28:43):
like coming up this weekend inthe division three tournament?
Yeah, some great action.
Went down to Lexington, Virginiato see Gene McCabe versus Pete
Toners Gettysburg Bullets.
Washington Lee, I think wasslightly favored.
They have an incredible face offman.
Just finished his second yearthere, Spano.
And you know, we had ScrimmagedWL in January and we'd seen how

(29:03):
talented they were offensively.
So I I felt like it was gonna beone of those days, a good day
for the Washington LeadGenerals.
And all of a sudden it's 10 tothree Gettysburg at halftime,
literally up by seven.
Wow.
The Gettysburg Defense playedwell.
The goalie was playing great, but when you got spano, you can
make a comeback, and sureenough, WL did and they pulled
it within one.
They got it to 13, 12.

(29:24):
And it's just one of thosebackbreaking moments.
Gettysburg's got the ball up,one holding on, trying to kill
some clock.
Literally like 10 seconds leftin the shot clock.
About three minutes to go in thegame.
Gettysburg exits all theiroffensive mids.
They put their defensive midspersonnel in the game at the
midline.
It's three verse six, Ron.
Huh.
A guy comes around, takes ashot, hits the goalie, and it

(29:46):
bounces right to one of theother two guys and they get the
reset.
I mean, you could have evendefended that three on six, you
would've been all over it.
They get the reset and kill 50more seconds and score with like
eight seconds left and the nextshot clock.
Oh my God.
That's terrific.
But great to be back at WilsonField.
I coached at w and l for twoyears under Jim Stata, and it's

(30:09):
just, it, it's, it is a joy.
I don't get to see too many Dthree games, but it's much more
uptempo.
They're playing fast and theskill, there's really not much
of a drop off in skill.
Mm-hmm.
Those guys are a little, alittle shorter, a little
skinnier than the D one guys, but the skillset, the shooting,
the intensity, it's all there.
Yeah, that's right.
I saw Gettysburg play earlier inthe year against Lynchburg, and

(30:32):
I was very impressed with thespeed of the game, the
athleticism, the skill level wasway up.
And they're, they're reallyplaying a lot of high level
lacrosse in all three divisions,so, oh yeah.
So it's good stuff.
So, huge win for Gettysburg.
And your prize for that is thejumbos.
Here comes Tufts.
So number one jumbos.
Exactly.
So they have a monster opponentthis weekend.

(30:55):
I'm really excited about what wetalk about little dog, Ron Dog
thi his little brother to seewhat Scott and his team can do
as they go up against coachWebster and Dickinson who took
down Salisbury.
It's, it's, it's, it's, it'sreally great action.
It's an exciting quarterfinalscoming up and, and, and
semifinals as they play twogames in two days.
D three very budget conscious, you know?

(31:15):
No, yeah.
And do you think, what do youthink, what do you think Ron
Engineers, can they win twogames in two days?
Well, I think they can, I mean,as you said that the bracket
really opened up for'em andthey're playing with tremendous
confidence.
I mean, they almost doubled upWesleyan, the number five team
in the country, right?
Who had, you know, a much easiergame on Saturday actually

(31:37):
beating brown alum, Rocky Battyand his Babson Bobcats in the
Saturday game.
And, you know RPI was testedagainst Williams out of 1410 win
against Williams.
But I'll tell you, RPI was adifferent team on Sunday and
played, I think they're bestlacrosse of the year and really
we're in control the whole way.

(31:58):
But it's, it's a nine seven gamecoming outta the third quarter
and RPI goes on to win 13 seven.
They just really shuts shut thedoor and closed out that game in
pretty dominant fashion.
And, you know, on that side ofthe bracket you've got.
And first of all, here's anotherfun fact that my brother said,
said, we love fun facts.

(32:19):
RPI and Dickinson have neverplayed each other.
Really They never played eachother.
Yeah, that was so funny.
I didn't look up, they didn'tplay this year.
I didn't know they'd neverplayed.
Yeah, my brother said they'venever played.
So they'll be the first matchupis Weby dodging between RPI and
Dickinson.
And you got two you know, acoach and former player going at

(32:40):
each other.
And then look the, you know, other and other game.
And for audience members who maynot remember, we had both your
brother coach Scott Dog Leash,Scott Hackett, dog Leach, I
might add, and Dave Webster onthe show.
And Scott was a player for CoachWebster.
So yeah, that was gonna beamazing.
He was number five, no number 15Dickinson.

(33:00):
I mean, it's amazing.
They beat Salisbury who was 20and oh, I mean, they go in there
and they beat them and here theygo playing R-P-I-R-P-I number
seven in the tournament.
The other side of that, youknow, the other game that
weekend, that whole weekend isat RIT and you got RIT
Courtland.
Yeah.
And RIT and RPI have developedquite a, i, I can't speak

(33:23):
tonight.
Jay, the rivalry.
Ron.
Thank you.
Thank you, Steve.
Oh, is that the worst?
Let me, let me retry that.
Lemme try that again.
RPI and RIT have created quitethe rivalry and it was a tight
game early this year.
RPI beat RIT last year to winthe Liberty League championship.
And so I, you know, as I said, things have really opened up.

(33:45):
Now look, e every game is toughthis time of year, so they, they
obviously gotta go one game at atime, but I think it's a really
exciting weekend.
And then Lars, you know, I knowyou didn't mention on the bottom
side of that, that TuftsGettysburg, we got a UVA alum
also had been on the show.
Right.
Mikey Thompson.

(34:05):
Mike Thompson coaching the CNUCaptains.
Against Boden number four in thetournament.
That's their rank for thecaptains.
Yeah.
Going against number five,Boden.
Impressive polar bear.
Is that the polar bears That I'mnot sure of.
It should be.
They're up in Maine.
I know.
They're main.
There's the polar bears.
You are, right.
So anyway, just a shout out tothose, you know, you got some

(34:28):
tremendous programs going out atthis weekend at Division iii.
Lars, I will tell you that frommy brother.
It's one of the the significantannoyance points of Division II
head coaches.
Imagine that you work your wholeseason, you win on Saturday to
get to the Final Four, and yourreward is you gotta come back
and play that Final four game 24hours later with a chance to go

(34:51):
to the final four.
I mean, not even a Friday,Sunday, you know, Saturday,
Sunday.
I guess that's when men weremen.
Lars crazy.
Absolutely.
That's D one Coaches.
We complain if there's a, if wehave a Sunday to a Saturday
game.
We lost a big day of preparationthere, Ron.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Wow, wow, wow.
Can, can, can we just, I want toinsert a little T two, you know,

(35:14):
jump right in there.
Oh, Lars Le Moine.
Lars Le Moines, actually D onenow.
D one Lemo.
D one.
Oh.
They made the move up.
But just, just a swan song.
Just to, to the tribute, tolimestone.
Unfortunately, limestoneannounced about a month ago that
they're closing doors.
This, the campus is shuttingdown the campus.

(35:34):
Oh, the campus, the college.
This is not just the lacrosseprogram being dropped, it's
everything.
Wow.
And this past weekend in asignificant upset Maryville of
Missouri knocked off limestonein overtime.
Oh.
And watching the replay of thatgame winning goal in over time,
as you see the limestone.
Faithful and the playersdisappoint.

(35:57):
Take a knee.
Like that's not just losing agame, that's losing a team and
that's losing a college.
So a little taps.
If, can you, can you cue in thetaps here?
Limestone by Coach Brendan StorySad day.
Stay fair.
While I think, I think that whatwe're learning here is that Lars

(36:21):
is really bored right now.
He's watching replays ofDivision three.
Division two games.
Tremendous.
Got a little time.
It's tremendous time going onhere.
You know what, lar, a lot offirewoods been split around
here.
Ron, you can see how muchFirewoods been split in the
center of Virginia.
Lars, you did mention a lotabout the NCAA being, you know,
cost, you know, aware.

(36:44):
There was a lot of chatter lastweek about Ohio State getting
kind of rooked with that drugagainst Notre Dame.
That probably should have beenmaybe a semi-final match.
Right?
Is there an answer like, lookedlike kind of Penn, maybe Penn
State should have been in thatspot, right?
Wasn't that the team you werethinking?
It's, you know, it stopped pinchpennies, you know, they've got
this two flight rule.

(37:05):
Well, the reality is it was onlyone flight happened.
You know, they put in two flightrules in case Air Force won
their playing game againstRobert Morris.
Then they'd have to fly back toMaryland.
Well, guess what?
They beat Robert Morris and theytook a bus to College Park and
hung out for a couple days.
So, you know, there was anotherflight there.
You know, it's they just got, doesn't Air Force fly free on
all their transports anyhow?

(37:26):
Right.
Can't they just jump out theback?
Right.
Get a jet.
Come on.
Don't they know somebody?
They do.
They do fly in the c seventeensto to games.
Really?
Yeah, they do some transporttroop.
Yeah, they, it's just, it's it,it's a shame, right?
When you win the big 10 you'renu the number four seed and you
got the defending two timedefending champs coming to you,
you know, whereas you see someof the other matchups, you know,

(37:48):
you, you almost want, you could,if they got a choice, they
wouldn't have chosen that one.
If it was, if you got to picknumber one seed, you get to
pick.
So yeah, there, there, there wejust gotta spend a little bit
more money and get this close.
I know we're never gonna see itall 18 teams or 16 if, once you
get past the playing games.
But there, there's gotta be alittle bit more semblance of
like, you get in collegebasketball of one playing 16,
two playing 15, et cetera.

(38:09):
Crazy.
Yes.
This, I went on a tirade lastweekend.
Lars, I mean, teams.
Teams worked their asses off,the kids worked their asses off.
This is yet another example ofthe NA not putting the student
athlete first.
It's the, it's the championshiptournament doesn't, and they're
making hand over fist.
We counted up like what theyused to charge years back.

(38:30):
It was like.
20 bucks or 10 bucks, you'd have48,000 people at MT and t
Stadium.
And then they figured they couldcharge way more.
And we were doing the numbersone time at Dwyer's and they,
they w raked in like three and ahalf million compared to 1.2
million with 30,000 people.
So it's like, you know, they gotcalculators.

(38:52):
Ridiculous.
Spend some of that money.
Jay, it seems like we should wejust saying like a, a Delta
Airlines banner on the sidelineand get a discount and then just
start flying some people.
Right, exactly.
I like it.
Steve always has the, the simpleanswer.
It's just simple.
Hang a banner for Christ.
It's, it's a simple game for thelove of God people.
Shall we move on to and tellmembers, call it members at the

(39:13):
Delta Airline?
You're now a member.
Yes.
Members only.
Can we please move on?
To the division three quarterfinal round, which starts on
Saturday.
Division three or one Ron B one.
Did I say division three?
You sure did I say divisionthree?
I am off my game.
You're gonna start having, let'sbe very clear, an extra cup of

(39:34):
coffee before the next jet lagfrom Sierra Leone from three
weeks ago.
Alright.
It is the division onetournament, quarterfinal.
Matchups.
We're starting on Saturday.
Jay, the first game, the CornellBig Red versus the Richmond
Spiders.
Ooh.

(39:54):
Ooh, Lars, how do you see thismatchup?
Get us started here.
This is a really excitingmatchup'cause it's already
happened once, earlier thisyear, right there in Jay
McMahon's backyard, and I wasthere in the booth with Coach
Dom Staria.
Oh, scintillating right there.
And guess who was up six to one?
The spiders were counting everyone of their legs.
They had six goals early.

(40:15):
And and, and so it's a teamthat, you know, the Richmond's,
they're not intimidated byanybody, anyone, anyways, you
know.
And they, they know that theycan beat this Cornell team.
Again, their team defense willkeep this thing close and then
Zach UE and the cage can step uplike he usually does.
What's also interesting is theface off specialist Chinoy for
Richmond, he's a hundred percenthealthy now, and he wasn't

(40:36):
earlier in the year.
Right.
That was big, pretty, prettycool too.
You've got Paul Richards, thedefensive coordinator who
coached the defensivecoordinator for, for Cornell and
who played at Cornell.
You know, Paul Richards was upin Ithaca for early in his
career, working with Ben DeLucaand and then moved down when Dan
Shama opened up that program.

(40:58):
He and Paul Richards have beenthere those 12 years.
So you got teams that know eachother well, they've played each
other already, but it's a talltask to shut down or not, you
know, at least contain, youknow, what they're gonna see
from CJ Hurst again, MichaelLong.
And boy, is there anyone whocame on the scene better and
faster than Ryan Goldstein, whathe's doing on attack with that,

(41:22):
that, that trio of them.
So I, this is a game.
This is, this is must see TVright here.
I just, I, I, I, I'm a littleconcerned with Cornell's you
know in terms of some of thespecialty areas, the defense
and, and, and the goalie play.
But they can put up 20 as we sawthem do, against against
Princeton.
So I think in the end of theday, Cornell wins this by a
couple goals.

(41:42):
Nice.
LT prediction, you got a, got ascore for us.
GFIs Gonna jot it down.
Oh, let's go 14.
I'm going on the record.
14.
1214.
1214.
What?
12.
Okay.
Yeah, I, as I said, I wasfortunate enough to see this
game.
It was probably in the thirdweek of the season for Cornell

(42:03):
and the fourth or fifth forRichmond.
And it was a heck of a game.
And Cornell, I mean, they justnever blinked.
I mean, they're down six to one,Richmond's all amped up.
There was a nice crowd there, and it was just like easy
breezy, you know, fourth quarterthey were down 11 to eight in
the fourth quarter.
And about 10 minutes left.

(42:24):
And then it was just like, theyjust kind of took control.
Jack Cas Cadden Garden City alumwas dominating the face offs and
he's won about 60% this year.
So it'll be interesting'cause Idon't know that he'll win 60% on
Saturday.
We'll, we'll have to see.
And then CJ KRS just came alive.
I mean, he's perfectly happy tosit back if needed when

(42:45):
everything's gelling.
And he was called upon though,at the end of that game and he
ended with three goals and oneassist.
But in that fourth quarter, hehad two goals and an assist and
it was just like, forget aboutit.
There's no way you're gonna winthis game.
So, we'll, to see, I'm gonna go,I think it's gonna be very close
for three and maybe a halfquarters.

(43:05):
I'm thinking Cornell Big Red isgonna, you know, take charge in
that fourth quarter and win 16to 10 is my call.
All right, Ron, I'll go beforeyou to give you some time to
gather your thoughts.
And Jay, you know, I'm, I'mnothing if not prepared and Oh,
yeah.
I've decided to augment myencyclopedic knowledge of
lacrosse with some facts aboutthe schools.

(43:27):
Let's hear it.
So what my research has producedis the fact that at Cornell was
where the chicken nugget wasinvented.
Did you guys know that?
Holy nuggets.
I had no idea.
1950, they had like a foodscience guy.
Perfect.
The chicken nugget.
What year?
1950.
Wow.
Yeah.

(43:47):
Now this, of course, I read thison the internet, that's how I
know it's true.
But the other fact about Cornellthat I was surprised that might
come into a factor is that youstill need to pass a swim test
to graduate.
Wow.
You'll have to, you know, Jay,you'll have to confirm that with
your wife house there.
Yeah.
But it's a later graduation.
I'm weighing these two facts, not a very strong, strong

(44:08):
swimmer.
Yeah.
The, the one, the one thing Iwas able to discern about
Richmond was that there's a, aReddit sub chat that discussed
the Greek system there as quote,a bunch of vineyard v vineyard
vine clad lax bros.
So I tell based on that, I thinkI'm gonna favor Richmond in this
matchup in, ooh, 11 to 12.

(44:31):
Wow.
That's a good call.
It definitely could happen.
Yeah.
I mean, you know vineyard, vineyard Vines.
Sure.
Ron to you, Ron's head, Ron, areyou awake or you are?
You wake'em up.
Someone's, this is my upsetspecial.
I am also going with theRichmond spiders.
Wow.
I just think this is feeling alittle bit like a team of

(44:55):
destiny, and as, as you said,Lars, it's not something that,
like, they just started playingthese teams tough, but getting
that playoff win and theconfidence that you can get from
that playoff win.
Now the pressure's off.
You gotta be playing freeagainst Cornell, as you said,
Jay.
They, they, why would theybelieve they couldn't beat them

(45:18):
with the success they they werehaving against them?
So I don't like to pick againstCornell and in fact, I think I
picked them to be in thechampionship game last weekend.
But you gotta go with thematchups week to week as you see
them.
And I see the Richmond spidersin a major upset ooh, score.

(45:38):
And I'm going to say it's gonnabe a 13 to 12 victory.
They do have the number threeranked team in offensive
efficiency, those spiders andthe number four ranked team in
defensive efficiency.
Of course, it a, it reallymatters who you played as we
were saying last week, the topgames they played, their defense

(46:01):
only gives up seven and a halfgoals per game on the year, but
they gave up 12 and a half pergame you know, against the
tougher teams as in Cornell.
Thus I said, they're gonna win13 to 12.
I know.
I'm impressed, Ron.
I think it, it could happen.
I'm gonna stick with Cornell, the big grad, like I said.
But yeah, they sh like in thebeginning of that UNC game, I
did think Richmond was a littleintimidated of just being in the

(46:22):
playoffs and like Carolina wasjust running around with their
hair on fire.
And then, you know, when pushcame to shove they were like,
all right, chill out.
Let's play our game.
And, and they eventually won, obviously by three goals.
So, interesting picks.
I'm excited to see.
It might be the game of the, theweekend.
We'll see.
I, I'm, I'm gonna protest Ron'spick for a little while.
I picked 11 to 12.
He picked 12 to 13.

(46:43):
That's like on the prices,right?
If I go 700, he goes 7 0 1.
That's a great, first of all, first of all, what, what kind of
person puts the losing scorefirst?
Very good point.
11, 11 to 12.
That's like a kid.
I'm doing the respective homeand away.
Ron, that's like a kid who spentCornell.
Richmond.
It's a kid who spent 15 years onthe robotics team.

(47:08):
11, 12.
Good lord.
Have some pride.
I will, I'll end this littlepart on this, on this first
matchup that Cornell has thenumber one team in offensive
efficiency, but only the number25 in defensive efficiency.
Who, well, you'll, well, you'lllearn, Lars, is no matter where
we are in the conversation andwhether we're ready to move on

(47:29):
to the next game or not, Jay'sgonna get all his research
points out there.
That's right.
He worked hard.
He worked hard to get that.
Exactly.
Yeah.
Thank you.
Thank you, Lars.
I appreciate it.
Alright, moving on to the two 30game on Saturday.
Oh classics, the PrincetonTigers and the Syracuse Orange.

(47:50):
Ooh, orange on j Jay has threepages of notes that he's gonna
torture us with, so we might, wemight as well get it out of the
way.
Go ahead, Jay.
I think people appreciate a highlevel of analytic intelligence
going into these pics.
Jay, there's no one that, that'swhat I provide.
Appreciates you more than you,so go right ahead.

(48:10):
That's not what the fan mailsays, Ron.
Come on.
Yeah, I'm gonna go with, well, let's draw it out a little bit.
We've got Su who ended theseason with three losses in a
row and that was to Cornell, duke, and UNC.
And then they go ahead and winthe a CC tournament.
Winning two games in a rownaturally, and then they go

(48:33):
ahead and win last week againstthe Big H, who they had lost to.
So they're on a heck of a run.
But I will say the PrincetonTigers I think are on too much
of a run themselves.
As we said, they scored 22 goalslast week and face off it looks
like they're actually kind ofequal coach.
Tiffany could give us a littleinformation on that too, of

(48:54):
course.
And you know, the three lossesthey lost to Maryland and then
Cornell twice, and it wasn't allthat close.
So I kind of see some separationat that level.
But when they played UNC andthey played Duke, they beat
them.
And I think Syracuse is aboutthat same level.
So I'm going with the Tigers ofPrinceton, 14 to 12.

(49:16):
Well, and I'm done.
I'm done.
Well stated.
Good research.
Thank you.
Lars, what do you think aboutthis one?
I, I I actually have a littlebit of clarity here.
I, I've Princeton's defense,they are a matchup orientated,
we are gonna win our matchup.
We're not sliding a little bitof, like, playing for Dom
Starship back in the lateeighties, you know?

(49:37):
Mm-hmm.
We're gonna, we're about matchuporientated.
Well, well, Don, what ifsomebody gets beat you know, the
nearest guy?
Maybe, maybe just, just go, youknow, go help him go double, you
know.
You know, and, and and I saythat with all sorts of love
because there's no better place.
A lot of love.
Yeah.
Way to save that one there,Lars.
Yeah.
Well, no better person to playfor than Dom stars you, because

(49:57):
you are free to go out there andthrow some checks, throw some
lumber, a little kayak over thehead, and and, and we were
better.
Are you a big kayaker?
I was gonna say that's Lars'sstyle, the kayak and the over
the head.
That was definitely his game.
Oh, yeah.
So so the be the reason I saythat, because the way to, to
defend Syracuse is not to slidethe, the, the passing betweens

(50:19):
and hilt, you know, number 22and number 77 is unbelievable.
It's like, stay on your guy evenwhen you're off ball, please.
You gotta be so tight to them, you know?
And now that Finn Thompson'shealthy and he's run around, and
of course they got the outsidemidfielders there with you know
seven.
Michael.
Leo.
Leo.
Yeah.
ROA can bring the gas and thenSam English can run by just
about anybody.
Oh, the English.

(50:41):
It's just, it's a defense.
You, you don't wanna slide, butthat's what Princeton does.
They don't slide.
So I really see an opportunityhere for a a Princeton defense
to keep the Syracuse offense incheck.
The problem will be, Syracuse isgonna win a lot of faceoffs.
Johnny Mullin is just, is, he'sfantastic at the X.
Mm-hmm.
The other end of the field, Imean, the Syracuse Defense has

(51:01):
certainly got better.
McCool can be good in the goal, but this Princeton offense, you
know, with Nate Keri what he'sdoing Chad Palumbo and of course
Moses Brown's own.
Peter Bonano, remember him attwo, three years old, out there
at the Meister Cavan field inred Cup evenings.
You know, watching him smasharound kids who are three, four

(51:21):
years older than him.
This is, this is a really, really exceptional offensive
unit being run by Jim Mitchell.
Nice.
Nice stuff.
I like it.
Sports 6 16 10 Princeton.
Ooh, beautiful.
All right.
Far as I'm right there with you.
I th I think this, I I, I just,it's hard to trust the Syracuse

(51:43):
team.
They're kind of all over theplace.
Right.
You know, sometimes you see'em,and I know we talked about this
when you played them, I was downthere for the game you played
them and how scary they can beoffensively with their bald
movement and their stick skillsand their, their creativity.
But, but they just fall flatsometimes.
And maybe Jay's what you weretalking about last week, they're

(52:03):
not the most athletic team inthe world.
Mm-hmm.
But I, I just think Princeton isgot too much right now.
I will say.
I think Princeton goal play isgonna be key.
Are they gonna get elevated playin the goal over these next few
weeks?
'cause if they want to get tothe promised Land, you know, you
saw what the, the, the kind ofgoals against, they gave up

(52:25):
against Cornell a couple ofweeks ago in that, that Ivy
Championship game.
And I was kind of, I mean, Iknow Cornell can, you know, has
their own kind of offensivefirepower, but are they going to
be able to get it together onthe defensive end enough to get
them through these next coupleof weeks.
But this is a game.
I think they win and I thinkthey win fairly easily.

(52:47):
Oh, Ron, I, I think, thinkagain.
13 eight.
We're gonna quote that one.
13 to eight.
13 to eight.
All right.
I, I, I dug really deep in myresearch on this game and found
out some interesting thingsabout Syracuse.
Maybe Lars, you can back me upon this and see if it's true or
not.

(53:08):
In Q'S history, they've hadseveral different mascots,
beginning with a viking goingwith a goat, and then something
called a saltine warrior.
Are you serious?
I know what that is.
That is that I was just like, ohyeah, a saltine warrior.
Like, is that a warrior Now theyjust have an orange with a bunch
of like soup crackers.
What?
What's a saltine warrior?

(53:30):
I don't get it.
No, it's a warrior made out ofsaltines.
The most surprising thing isthat after all that they said,
no, let's go with the orange, with the, with the goofy face on
it.
Right?
Because every orange has a face.
So that's one that prevailed.
And then, you know, researchinginto Princeton I saw some things
that I was afraid to click on'cause I didn't want to get a
computer, computer virus, butthere was nude Olympics.

(53:52):
I had that with stinky trained.
Wow.
I had that with a Diddy trialtoday.
I had to not click, but anyway.
Exactly right.
Like I, I just didn't wannaknow.
I didn't wanna see where thatled to the naked Olympics and
the what.
Dinky train.
The dinky train.
Oh, the dinky train I know is,is the little like spur rail
that goes to the Amtrak line.
That that's just goes right tocampus.

(54:12):
But I still wasn't a hundredpercent sure.
I didn't want to click on dinkytrain and have that in my, in my
search district.
Steve's looking for a littledinky train.
So that being said, I think I'mstill gonna go with Syracuse.
I think that they're gonna comealong contr in the playoffs
'cause they feel like theybelong.
And I'm gonna go with 10 to 12Ron Syracuse.

(54:38):
Now, now you're just doing that.
It's like when, it's like whenyou cut your salad, it's like
when you chop your salad, you'rejust gonna keep doing it.
10 to 12.
10 12.
I'm just gonna stare at youwhile I'm doing it.
10 to 12.
Good Lord.
It definitely could happen.
I mean, Syracuse is just sowacky.
And then they'll start Syracusescoring craziest goals, right?
They're still Syracuse whenthey're on fire.

(54:59):
It's just weird to watch likethe most pinpoint passing shots
from anywhere, just rippingcorners.
It's like really?
It can happen Average, average120 inches of snow a year.
I'm sure Lars can attest tothat.
Global warming used to be 180.
It's global warming.
Wow.
I'm sure.
I'm sure they, that's what theyfeel when they're getting their
120 inches of snow.

(55:21):
Yeah, it's nothing.
We need more.
What's next big fella?
Well, we're moving on to Sundayand Sunday's first matchup has
the Penn State Nittany Lionsagainst the Notre Dame fighting
Irish.
Irish.
So.

(55:42):
Steve, we're gonna let Steve ina shocking twist of events go
first so that I can get his backto his back for Alfi so I can
get his, his losing score firstpick out of the way.
Okay.
Research has provided me someinformation about Penn State
that I'm also glad to verifywith is, is that one of the most
hip, well, you know, one of thebiggest features on campus is

(56:04):
their ice cream store.
Is, is that true?
Mm-hmm.
Lar Lar was coached there formany years.
Absolutely.
Yeah.
Tell us about your favoriteflavor from the Penn State.
Cream creamery, the creamery.
I wonder if it's been outlawed.
'cause it was the Peachy, paternal was my favorite.
Oh, this was, this was wellbefore the Sandusky scandal
though.
Well, I mean, if they took the,you know, the statue down, I'm

(56:25):
sure they've gotten rid of thepeachy.
They probably have the peach icecream.
They'd probably call itsomething else.
Right.
So, so PC.
I don't know if this is a newdevelopment, but apparently the
campus has been overrun bysquirrels.
Does that make sense?
May that's wrong with squirrelsinfestation that was noteworthy

(56:46):
on the internet.
Interesting.
Something, you know, that Iwanted to be aware of when I was
picking the game key.
They could be very agitated.
See, and Notre Dame, the, theonly, the thing that puzzled,
you know, that concerns me mostabout this game is that they
have a midnight dorm curfew inall single sex dorms at, at
Notre Dame.
Which is why I think those boysare gonna be ready.

(57:07):
We learned from Rocky that womenweaken legs.
So I think the Catholic celibacyis going to have be, get those
guys fired up for Sunday's game.
I'm gonna pick no weak knees.
Notre Dame in a route six to 12,Ron.
Wow.

(57:28):
Good call.
Good call.
Great.
I think so.
Well, I it, so this is like ahell of a football game.
I mean, I mean, it could be agood lacrosse game, but you
know, this is like a 21 to 17little grind it out football
game here.
Lacrosse field.
You've got first of all, you gota, an offensive weapon and Penn
State's Matt Trainer.
The season is he's having howmany goals he's scoring and he's

(57:50):
got like, really nice supportingCassie Young, attacking Kyle
Lehman down there as well.
A really good defense and youknow, Jeff Tam's teams are
always tough, well organized anddisciplined, which is re what
you need to try to break downthat vaunted stalwart defense of
the, of the not dame fightingIrish.
It's you know, the, theexperience here, Penn State's

(58:11):
got a lot of it, right?
I mean, 2023, they get to theFinal four.
And arguably should have been, that game should have kept going
when they gave that goal.
And they, they should have had achance to get to championship
Memorial Day Monday.
So they've been here before too.
They're gonna do better, they'regonna keep it closer to Ohio
State, but this is still a NotreDame victory for Kevin Corrigan

(58:31):
and Chris Kavanaugh and thetroops.
This is a this is an 11 to eightvictory for the Irish oh seven
eight A.
Yeah, I, I think it's very hard.
I don't know how after the, theperformance that Notre Dame put
up last week on the road at OhioState, which, you know, just

(58:51):
seemed like a.
Had proven all year.
What a tough team they were.
Right.
And they had beaten Notre Dame.
Yeah.
And, and, and, and was justcoming off a win over Maryland
in the Big 10 Championship, andthey just throttle'em.
Right.
So, I, I don't know how you comeinto this weekend not picking
Notre Dame to get back to theFinal Four as the defending
champs.

(59:12):
I mean, for all the reasons thatLars said, you know, Jeff Tamron
is a great coach.
He'll have that team ready.
He will have a plan.
But you know, I think Notre Damewins this game, you know, 14,
10?
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
I don't know how you know aswell, except they've been very

(59:34):
streaky all year.
You know, they lose to Maryland, they lose to Ohio State early.
Both games.
Very close.
One goal could have gone eitherway, but then they lose to
Syracuse twice by like three orfour goals or something, maybe.
Two or three, but it wasn't likea one goal loss.
Large.
Just so you know, Jay is, isobsessed with how Notre Dame

(59:54):
could have lost to Syracusetwice.
It's, it's been, it's it'sreally under, gotten under his
skin.
He mentioned it about 16 timeslast week.
Dog, zip your lip.
I'm going, I think it's gonnacome down big time to face offs
and as well as goalie play likeNotre Dame.

(01:00:15):
I know Fon for Penn State ispretty solid.
He didn't have that many savesthough last week.
And Rickard Deli, I feel likehasn't been that solid, but he
had like 24 saves last week.
I looked that up.
It's crazy.
So it's gonna, I think it'sgonna come down to those
goalies, but I have to say, youknow, I just can't pick Penn
State.
Penn State just hasn't playedgreat lately.

(01:00:37):
You know, I mean they had thatloss kind of mid-season, I guess
they're three in two, their lastfive games.
They were six and one early on.
Then four and three with thelost Iowa State.
Maryland twice didn't look greatagainst Colgate.
So yeah, I gotta go Notre Dame.
Oh my kidding.
I already got it written down.

(01:00:57):
Notre Dame won.
Wins 12 eight.
Now to me.
We're moving on to, oh, Steve, did we let you go?
I apologize.
You went first.
I went first as a matter offact.
Got, I forget.
That was so, that was so, thatwas so long ago.
I forgot if you forgot the therabid squirrels right around.

(01:01:18):
Alright, the squirrels.
I mean, I, I'm not gonna be ableto sleep thinking of those
Nittany lions now ravaged bysquirrels.
Gentlemen, the final game of theweekend to me is clearly the
game of the weekend.
The most intriguing kind ofmatchup, the Maryland turbans.
Oh, he according to the Marylandguy.

(01:01:38):
The most intriguing matchup.
Come on.
I think it is the mostintriguing matchup.
The Maryland Terrapins.
John Tillman just marches histeams to the Final Four against
the Georgetown Hoyas, theupstarts, who, as Lars said,
they're, I don't know if youconsider them upstarts.
They've been common and commonand common.

(01:01:59):
Huge win over Duke.
So we got the Terrapins versusthe Hoyas.
And Jay, would you like to takethis one?
Sure Ron.
I'll do that.
Yeah.
I was loving Georgetown lastweek and I mean, I'm loving'em
this week too.
I think they're, they got atremendous opportunity, as coach

(01:02:19):
Tiffany was saying, they reallyhave had trouble breaking
through this, this quarter,final round.
As we know, his, his very ownCavaliers have done them in on a
few occasions, and it's been, coach Tiffany can correct me if
I'm wrong, 25 years since theywent to the Final Four,
something like that.
Yeah.
1999 ish.
So yeah.

(01:02:40):
Yeah.
26.
Crazy.
So, but they're on, they're onfire.
I mean, it certainly could be agreat game, but it is tough to
vote against the TURPs.
You know, they've been in 10 ofthe last final four or 10 to the
last 15 final fours, and their, their guys are playing well, you
know, their attack is clicking.

(01:03:00):
They move the ball really well.
You got Spanos, you got Ursa, you got Daniel Kelly, who's dad.
I played with on the under 19team.
He's the head coach at CoveredHall and Daniel Kelly is
shooting the lights out.
Had to get in.
We missed an episode.
You were on the U 19 team.
No, I didn't know that.

(01:03:20):
Yeah, I didn't know that.
Yeah, with bk, Brian Kelly.
Yeah, Daniel Kelly's dad.
So it's pretty exciting for meto, to see him.
He ripped a lefty one top shelflast week to get that game
started.
It was amazing, kind of the wayI used to do it.
I was left-handed.
Still am actually.
But anyway, you know thequestion is, is this the year
that Georgetown breaks through?

(01:03:42):
If so, it would have to comefrom some serious, a serious
defensive effort.
And can that happen?
I think the answer's no.
It cannot.
So I'm going with the TURPs 12to seven.
How wrong you are, Jay.
Oh, that's me.
Wrong.
How wrong you are.
Remember?
I wouldn't, I would love to bewrong.
Actually, I'm just gonna, that'll just tease my pick.
But Lars, let's, let's get yoursage insight before we move on.

(01:04:07):
I, I, I have to say, this isthe, probably the toughest one
because all the evidence saysthis is Maryland Terrapin
weekend.
You know, John Tillman is 12 andone in the Quarterfinal games.
His only loss probably shouldn'thave been a loss.
You would've scored anyway, hitthe post cost 2019.
Michael Kraus.

(01:04:29):
Did that shot go in?
Maybe.
We'll never know.
It didn't, but, but there's, youhad the ball afterwards and you
guys would've scored.
Don't care.
I've had this argument manytimes, as you can tell.
But that, I mean, that's the oneloss that John Tillman has as
the Mariton terrapin coach goinginto the quarter of finals
trying to get to the finals forweekend.
That's amazing.
You give John Tillman a week toprepare for an opponent.

(01:04:49):
There's no one better in thebusiness.
It's a the, the goalie MacinaLogan is playing fantastic
lacrosse this year.
The defense led by Will Schellerand whatever you want to, Jay
wants to call him.
Zach McInnis, we'll call himJack McDonald.
Thank you.
They, they've got a, what's hisface?
Fantastic.
I wouldn't say to his face, he'shuge, he'd kick my ass.
That's true.
That's true.
Even though dog couldn't dothat, according to chat, GPT,

(01:05:13):
they've done well with thetransfer portal, the midfield
with Matt Kegan and Bryce Ford.
It's a it's a really good group.
But here's the, but you know, that Georgetown defense, I think
it can stand up here.
They got a fantastic goalkeeperbehind it all and the confidence
you have to have going intoDurham and scoring 16 goals, I

(01:05:34):
mean, you just, that just didn'tha that doesn't happen.
So I, I, I've got, I've got,I've got Marilyn winning this
game, but in, oh, so close tofashion nine to eight ot.
Ooh.
Ooh, wow.
Lars, very interesting fortarps.
Alright, Ron, I'll give you aminute to gather your thoughts.
What, what I learned aboutGeorgetown, which I think is, is

(01:05:57):
gonna play into this, into thisweekend's game significantly, is
that I'm sure it is one of the.
Shooting locations for themovie, the Exorcist, the spooky
stairs that were poorly lit in,in the fog is on campus at
Georgetown.
I know, I've seen that.
It's crazy.
Yeah.
That, that's gonna be hard toovercome for the TURPs, but you
know, luckily for them it's onneutral territory.

(01:06:18):
If the game was at Georgetown,it would be over.
Damn.
The stairs that go, apparentlyHoya Saxa is a chant that they
do at the Georgetown basketballgames, which is Latin for what
Rocks.
And that means that Hoya Saxamakes more sense even in
English.
Like what rocks, what does thateven mean?
So that's, that's gonna countagainst them in the game.
Speaking of Latin, you know, weall know that Testudo is Latin

(01:06:41):
for turtle, which is whyTestudo, the, the mascot is
named that the tarp.
And I actually knew that,'causeI have a little, you know, I've
been nicked with the tsm, so Iknow that a testudo is a Roman
military formation where theylock shield.
So, you know, I spent a lot oftime doing that.
And so that's called a testdodo.
No, of course.
Other thing that I'm, who hasn'tlocked shields for the test?

(01:07:01):
Doto.
I get it.
Yeah.
They can make a turtle outta theshields.
Yeah.
More rep, more reports of asquirrel infestation at
Maryland.
I, I'm starting to think yetanother that maybe squirrel is
like a euphemism for somethingelse.
Like, are furries making it comeback?
Like, what's, what's going onwith squirrels and Big 10 teams?
That is weird.

(01:07:22):
I'm actually gonna pickGeorgetown because I just can't,
can't get past the Exorciststairs.
I think they have that going inand I, I just don't see Maryland
overcoming that.
Even, even with all the factorsthat Lars has mentioned.
So I'm gonna go Georgetown and Ithink it's gonna be like a 12 to
13 game run.

(01:07:44):
Very consistent.
Tremendous, tremendous.
Look, friends, we talked lastweek on this very podcast about.
Lars, as you said, how wellprepared Coach Tillman has his
teams this time of year.
Is it all on the iPad?
Is that it?

(01:08:04):
However, however, we also talkedabout perhaps other than in the
goal, do they have that, thosedifference making players that
really scare you?
When comes That's a great point.
When comes crunch time?
I, I was looking at JI also dodo a little bit of research.

(01:08:24):
Oh, you know, their, their topscorer.
Danny Kelly try it.
Kelly out for a change, a 30goal score.
They've, they, they've only gotfour players who scored more
than 20 goals then, and then itdrops down.
From there, I just, they'rebalanced.
But another way, another way, another thing of saying you're
balanced is that you don'treally have a go-to.

(01:08:46):
And so.
I, I just think that thatGeorgetown defense, Lars, as you
said, is gonna be hand, is gonnabe able to handle this offense.
I'm certainly not saying thatMaryland isn't gonna be
disciplined, isn't gonnagenerate high quality shots,
'cause they are.
But when you, when you saw whatCarol did in that Duke game, and

(01:09:08):
you tell me that if this gamedoesn't come down to it too, I
think Lar you said an overtimekind of game.
Who's got the horse that youwant to jump on that's gonna
make the big play?
And I actually think unlikemany, many, many, many years,
it's the Georgetown hoists whohave the best player on the
field, who when crunch timecomes, is gonna make the

(01:09:31):
difference making play.
I'll say he looked like a man ona mission.
Prove the preparation, thediscipline, the iPads right, the
55 different sets for everydefense imaginable.
Think give it a Jimmy or Joe andmake play.
There's a little something insports called Momentum and
confidence, and Georgetown hasit and they're gonna pull the

(01:09:55):
upset and go to the final four.
Ron Bo, that's a big call you.
Woo.
I love it.
I'll back it up a little withsome statistical package where
you've got the number 22 offensefor Maryland.
I mean the number two teamranked in the tournament, but
number 22, offense going againstthe number 23 defense in the

(01:10:15):
Hoya.
And then their defense is numbertwo, of course, and Hoya is
number 11.
But Ron, we're gonna, we'regonna mark that down.
Score.
This is a ten eight victory forthe Georgetown HOAs.
That's impressive.
If you can get the double digitsagainst Maryland, I think that
Georgetown defense is playingbetter than their seasonal

(01:10:37):
statistics would indicate atthis juncture.
So I, I, I, I think ten eight.
I think it's a valid argument,an intriguing game for certain.
Very intriguing, veryintriguing.
Of course, if it starts and likethe Maryland machine is rolling
along and it's six to one in thefirst quarter, we all might just

(01:10:58):
puke, but then we can amend itdoesn't happen.
Right?
But if there was any team that Icould question validity of in
this nine, in one situation fora Maryland team, I'm saying like
over the years it would be thisteam.
You know, it was weird how they, they lost to Rutgers, they lost
to Michigan.

(01:11:18):
And you know, during the regularseason, some uncharacteristic
lack of consistency there.
So yeah, it's gonna be reallyexciting.
And they come from the Big East, which now is the only conference
in division one that has a pope.
Right.
And the Pope went to Villanova.
That's right.
Correct.
They had that momentum goingtoo, Ron.
Very good.

(01:11:38):
They got the white.
They got the white smoke.
Yeah.
Pop power.
They got the white smoke.
Leo the 14.
Steve.
That was an outstanding pointSteve.
The guy's been making therounds.
Maybe the Popemobile ISS gonnapull up right at, right at
Hempstead.
I know it's a Marine Corpsstadium.
Maybe we'll see.
Yeah.
You don't want the Pope drivingthrough Hempstead.
True?
No.
Well, thank God it'sbulletproof.

(01:12:02):
We'll put that to the test.
Yeah.
Beautiful fellas.
Final, final comments, coach?
Tiffany, you have the floor.
I have the floor.
Yeah, I, I think the last game'sa mostly treating you one.
You got two great goalies, LoganNeeti and Anderson Moore playing
for Georgetown.
That's why we got thepredictions for a lot of us are

(01:12:22):
low.
I've got two single digits, nineto eight, only 16 goals and
regulation.
It's gonna take the, takeovertime to get that 17th goal.
It's and this is what it's allabout.
You know, when you get to thequarter finals, you get four
great games.
You, you get back, you getteams.
You just, you know, we could, wecould all go over all, any one
of us could go oh for four andnot be too surprised, right.

(01:12:45):
And this is, this is what it'sall about right now.
But yeah, I am I, I definitelyhedge towards the teams who've
been here before and have wonhere before.
It, it does make a difference.
Nice dog.
Any final thoughts?
Sunday is, is just lining up tobe an epic TV day.
We have the two games that wetalked about.
Can Rory win two majors in arow?

(01:13:07):
Ooh, how about that?
You got the PJ Championship downat Quail Hollow.
You got the NHL and NBA playoffsraging.
It's gonna be a lot of likemulti game screens going on.
Not for me, but I know I, I canappreciate other sports, but not
this weekend.
Well, it's interesting.
I'm gonna be having to takeadvantage of my online

(01:13:29):
subscriptions because my newglobal profile, I'll be watching
these games from Brussels.
Whoa.
Yes.
Wow.
Rbo.
Yep.
I'll be meeting some centralbankers there.
Or what, what's bringing you toBrussels?
Be going to the EU humanitarianforum, talking about how some of
those European countries canhelp a c and nutrition meet some

(01:13:51):
of the urgent.
Nutritional needs of childrenaround the world, which there's
some crisis situations facing usaround the world.
Not to end the podcast on our, Iwas just gonna say while I'm non
nutrition crisis.
But what I will say fellas, isthis is my favorite weekend of
lacrosse every year.

(01:14:11):
A as you said, really even morethan the final four.
Well,'cause I've got four games.
I've got a PO per, I've got avirtual PO perie of games to
select from throughout theweekend.
Jay.
Four games That's true, isbetter than two.
And they're usually always epic.
These, yeah.
The, and you know, you look atthe you look at the teams that
are playing and the lacrossebrands, if you will, up and down

(01:14:34):
the bracket that are remaining.
And as as you said, Lars, and wetalked about this last week in
the first round, how many timesin the first round.
Could you say, I wouldn't besurprised if this team lost, and
I wouldn't be surprised if thisteam won the national
championship.
And so I think you could saythat of pretty much every, every

(01:14:54):
team that's playing thisweekend, especially this year, I
think the first weekend provedthat it remains the most wide
open tournament that we've hadin a lot a long time.
And that should make for areally exciting weekend of
lacrosse.
Arum, well said.
Ron.
Steve, any parting shots?
That's it.
I just can't wait for foreverything to watch this

(01:15:15):
weekend.
The montage of sports for theselfie.
Steve's gonna be watching to seeif any squirrels make it out
onto the field.
Yeah, I'm a little concernedabout both Big 10 teams having
squirrel problems.
It might be a big part of theweekend.
We'll hear, you know, they'vegot some reporting.
It might be like breaking news.
Look for little scratches onlike their legs and append.

(01:15:35):
Yeah.
Chances of getting attacked by asquirrel or low, but they're
never zero.
Steve, as you're watching allthe athletic coverage this
weekend, I hope you'll noticethat generally speaking,
generally speaking, theyannounced the winning team
scores first.
Just generally, I think you, you'll just want to take note of
that as you're watching thecoverage this weekend.
Everyone knows what I wastalking about, Rob not being so
pedantic.

(01:15:57):
Oh, pedantic dog.
I love it.
Well, thank you very mucheverybody and hope you enjoy
this great weekend and we'lllook forward to you next week.
Signing off, Until we meetagain.
Here's to hoping you find thetwine.
