Juke (00:10):
Hello humans and welcome to getting gamers your guide to
understanding the gamers in yourlife. I'm Juke My pronouns are
they them..

Perf (00:19):
And I am Perf. My pronouns are he him.

Juke (00:21):
And today we have a game suggestion. For beginners, it's
a co op game. So a gamer canplay with a noob to try to get
them into gaming and we reallyfound that it was a great a
great beginner game.

Perf (00:37):
And it's somewhat of a dying breed because there's not
much co-op couch games anymore.
Yeah. And the gaming industry'sbecause pretty much everything
is online or solo, solo, singleplayer offline. So when we find
some new gems that you can playa couch co-op, we will most

(00:57):
likely suggest them.

Juke (01:01):
Yeah, so we're probably gonna have segments like this
coming up. Once in a while justgood game suggestions for
beginners, especially for gamersand beginners together. But
before we get into that, let'stalk about what games we've been
playing this week. For me, theanswer is always Hearthstone.
That's pretty much the only gameI play regularly and the

(01:23):
tournament has just anotherfriendly tournament has just
started. But perf you've beenplaying a game that you've
haven't played in a long time.

Perf (01:31):
Yeah, I've been, I gotta say, I've been a pirate, but it
was needed. It was neededbecause the game I downloaded
from my childhood is from 2006 Ithink and it's not something you
can find anymore on in stores,or I think you can find some
very rare copies of that therange between 100 and 150 bucks.

(01:57):
So, yeah, it's

Juke (01:59):
it's not like top notch quality either. So 150 bucks for
a game that's like 2008 qualityis something

Perf (02:06):
We can say it's artifact.
But yeah, so I've downloadedthis game and it's called the
battle for middle earth 2 so ifthere's any Lord of the Rings
fans out there. It's a it's aRTS based on the lore of Lord of
the rings. Nice. So yeah, I'vebeen having pretty much I've

(02:28):
been having fun, nostalgic fun.
Yeah.

Juke (02:34):
It definitely has a Lord of the ring vibes to the
aesthetic. Like the elf, I sawbriefly really had the face of a
Lord of the Rings elf like dosnarrows skinny faces.

Perf (02:46):
Yeah, it's the graphics are pretty old, of course. But
it's it's still it's still abeautiful game for an RTS of
that time

Juke (02:55):
Yeah, it definitely looks better than Warcraft in my
opinion. Yeah, like, yeah,

Perf (03:02):
it's better than Warcraft it's, I think it's two or three
years. It's three years.
Warcraft is three years older.

Juke (03:12):
Okay, and when I say for the gamers at home before you
rage against me when I say itlooks better. I mean,
aesthetically, I have not playedthe game. I am not judging the
gameplay of Warcraft againstthis game. I mean, the visuals
do not come for me.

Perf (03:28):
Perfect protection skills my love

Juke (03:31):
My shields are up

Perf (03:32):
a big debate about which game is better. But I'm pretty
sure Warcraft is a bettergame...

Juke (03:40):
But it's ugly, I think I'M gonna make some enemies online.

Perf (03:48):
You're gonna make a bunch of enemies. That's not tell that
to Grubby.

Juke (03:52):
I love Grubby though and I love watching it. I've loved
watching it. I just don't thinkit's a very pretty game.

Perf (03:59):
Of course, it's very old and they tried to make it look
better. But

Juke (04:04):
yeah, but nobody will.
Yeah, because it's slower.
Right?

Perf (04:09):
The, the remodelling of all the graphic aspects are
causing many many bugs anddelays and the hitbox Oh, that's
that's someone I can definehere. What's a hitbox? Yeah,
hitbox is a trough all games.
It's the actual space that yourcharacters taking in the game.

(04:34):
In which if you hit him atcertain parts is gonna it's
gonna hit him for real andsometimes depending on the model
of the character. And let's sayit's a super big character he's
gonna have the same books ofdepending on the game, he can

(04:54):
have bigger hitbox or the samehitbox If he has the same
hitbox, you can hit hit him inthe, let's say, the the
extremities are going to be nonexistent from the hitbox. Let's
say you fire you shoot the guyin the arm, he won't hit the

(05:15):
elbow, it's not actually goingto hit him. But if the hitbox
represents the actual model ofthe character, if you hit him in
the arm, it's gonna hit.

Juke (05:25):
Okay, and so the problem with the Warcraft three model is
that you can try to hitsomething and it doesn't hit

Perf (05:31):
sometimes, and sometimes just taking the orders you give
your units with, with theclicking is not gonna be
processed well enough. Okay. Sothere's a lot of very micro bugs
that can affect your performancein a competitive way. That makes

(05:54):
it so that everyone's using theold graphics. I think they've
been working on that lately, butas tilting it's not perfect
because I don't see any prosplaying with the new graphics.
Yeah. But other than that, I'vebeen re downloading a game that
I'm going to play again with Zikand Divi. Third Person Shooter.

(06:18):
That's a ghost recon Wildlands.

Juke (06:20):
Ghost Recon Wildlands. So wildlands like Ghost Recon. I
mean, I'm guessing there areseveral Ghost Recon. Okay.

Perf (06:29):
It dates back to the first Xbox. Oh, okay. Well, so yeah,
well, that was 10-11 years old.

Juke (06:40):
Oh, yeah. Okay.
Interesting. So, Xbox.

Perf (06:45):
It's a Tom Tom Clancy's games. Oh, I know that name.
He's a he's a writer. Oh, he hasmany books.

Juke (06:52):
Okay. Okay. Like what?

Perf (06:54):
I don't know. The name I know his games, but I don't know
his. His writings, his books.
But I'm pretty sure it's all..

Juke (07:05):
like sci fi type

Perf (07:07):
No..what to say? Polier?

Juke (07:11):
Investigative type stuff.

Perf (07:13):
Yeah, pretty much. Pretty sure it's in military dash cop
being books. Interesting. Sorry, guys. I'm liking the word for
policier, which is books aboutinvestigations. And yeah, the
you should know that

Juke (07:30):
books, you know, . Words.
Okay, words.

Perf (07:36):
It's complicated.

Juke (07:39):
So going back to our topic of this episode, we have a
suggestion for beginners thatwant to play. It's a co op game.
So you need to be two people toplay this game. And ideally, you
need to be two people sitting ina couch together and having fun.
And the game is called

Perf (07:58):
unravel 2. Because I think that unravel one isn't another
co-op game.

Juke (08:03):
Okay, so definitely go for unravel. Two, because that's
what we're talking about. Andthe second version is always
better. I'm saying that butthat's not not always true. But
whatever. Unravel 2 to yourlike, each your little character
in your tiny little things madeof yarn, basically. And you're
going through a map, so it's 2d,right? Kind of like Mario bro is

(08:29):
a lot of a lot of the platformergames that that our generation
grew up with were 2d. And you'reboth your little characters are
tied by a string together andyou're constantly tied by you're
constantly attached to oneanother, by the string Perf

(08:50):
smiling because I keep makingsigns with my hands trying to
describe it. I know you guyscan't see me, but it helps me
describe what I'm saying. Butthe reason this game is so good
for a beginner to play, especially if you want to you
like if your gamer wants to playa game with you. It's a puzzle

(09:11):
game. So there's platforming,there's jumping, but there's
also some solving things whereyou use the fact that you're
tied to each other.

Perf (09:19):
You use the tension to make certain type of jobs or
swinging.

Juke (09:24):
Yeah. But when things are too hard, and you don't need to
be swinging one another. You canattach yourself to Yeah, and you
can piggyback. So if there'scertain areas that are too hard,
which happened to me, I had tojust piggyback and then Perf did
the whole, like that small area, because I just kept dying and

(09:48):
then we both have to restartevery time I kept dying. So at
some point, I just piggybackedon him because I was getting
frustrated, which is a nice partof this game is that if you're
at this point where you'regetting frustrated, you can say
Okay, fuck it, I don't want to.
We're not here to live negativeemotions. We're here to play a
casual thing. We're not here topractice and make you into a
gamer. We're just here to play acasual thing. So piggyback get

(10:09):
past the hard part. And then wecontinue.

Perf (10:14):
Hop on, babe. You're the one going in my back this time.
And it

Juke (10:19):
wasn't we laughed like crazy at some point. And there
was more stressful points wherewe were getting chased. So it's
not super casual, where you'rebored like I would for me as a
beginner. You know, it was, Iwas constantly playing and
working, but for a gamer. Like, like you. Were you ever bored?

(10:42):
Not necessarily because of thecompany, but because of the
game?

Perf (10:45):
No, no, it's a pretty entertaining game. The puzzles
are progressively harder, whichmakes sense, but it's very fun.
Because sometime you you'refaster than me to with the
puzzles.

Juke (11:00):
Yeah, well, that's the fun part. Because it's puzzles. And
it's 2d. It's not necessarilypuzzles. Like if I say puzzles
and gaming together for abeginner, that might sound
intimidating. But the puzzle, ithas really nothing to do with
gaming necessarily, it's not ashooting puzzle, it's not a it's
really like, Okay, I got to howdo I place these things so that

(11:23):
we can make a bridge, you know, kind of so it happened that me
the beginner solved it before.
Perfect, because it's notnecessarily a gaming thing. It's
really more of a solve thisproblem thing, you know, and I
have an ADHD mind, I'm betterwith patterns and stuff like
that. So sometimes my braincaught on faster, and it was a

(11:45):
satisfying thing to be like, hey, like, I'm not just
piggybacking my way through thiswhole game, I'm actually solving
things. And, and it's fun as abeginner because sometimes your
gamer needs you. There's partsof the game where even though
this guy is a pro gamer, hecannot pass this area if you're
not there to help them swing.

Perf (12:07):
Exactly. And that's what's making very fun about their Co
Op game which you actually haveto cooperate with you.

Juke (12:15):
Yeah, and but we had a lot of fun. We haven't finished the
game yet. I don't know how manylevels there are to it.

Perf (12:22):
I think we are a quarter or a third done at max because
we had to start over

Juke (12:27):
Yeah.

Perf (12:30):
In your defense days was the controller controller the
joystick issue? Yeah, it waskind of stuck. always moving.

Juke (12:39):
Yeah, I accidentally restarted the game. So we had to
restart it.

Perf (12:44):
Yeah, it overwrote the save we had Yeah,

Juke (12:47):
but that was my mistake.
So beginners, don't be afraid ofthat your gamer will take care
of starting the game for you.

Perf (12:54):
But we got to keep doing it. Because yeah, We catched up.

Juke (12:57):
Yeah, we did we we caught up and went I gotta have
something. Oh, yeah, there's notreally much of a story to the
game. The focus is really youyour two little yarn characters
that are smaller than the realworld world. I'll say that the
physical like the the map thestuff you're jumping over and

(13:18):
whatnot. Those are real worldthings. So there'll be a table
and a chair like it's not it'snot like from a sci fi world.
It's not

Perf (13:28):
a fantasy world. Yeah. It looks like there is somewhat of
a story behind with the but it'sthe ghost the Yeah, some things
happen, but it's very unclearwhat's happening.

Juke (13:41):
Yeah. And I feel like maybe as we progress through the
game, we might understand what'swhat's going on there. But but
definitely the story has nothingto do with our gameplay. There's
nothing to read or there's nostory to follow into have to
remember to succeed properly.
It's really just jumping overthings platform is

Perf (14:01):
It's clearly puzzle focus.

Juke (14:03):
Yeah, the same way, we never really knew that there was
much of a story to Mario Bros.
Because you don't need to reallyknow the story to complete the
games. So it's in that aspect.
And but it was it's really fun.
The whole having to solve okay, how do we get there clearly, we
have to swing. But okay, nowwhenever I swing, I'm hitting

(14:23):
this part. So I have to I haveto crawl up my rope. That's all
that's a great part to wheneverI fall. As long as Perf didn't
fall, I can crawl up my rope andget back to where he is.
Exactly, which is an amazingthing because within platformers
I think any beginner was playedany platform maybe even if you
played Mario Bros once you'vefallen in and it's so fucking

(14:44):
annoying. It's

Perf (14:46):
like an integrated failsafe.

Juke (14:47):
Exactly.

Perf (14:48):
You're a newbie.

Juke (14:51):
I've never I don't know have you played with Divi
because I know Divi is the onethat found it.

Perf (14:55):
No. At first we it was a game that we wanted to do. Right
after what's it

Juke (15:04):
It takes two it takes to them. I was not

Perf (15:06):
but we found out that it was only a couch Co Op game. It
was. It wasn't an online co-opgame.

Juke (15:13):
Yeah, cuz I Yeah, true.
You can't really play online.
Interesting. Very true.

Perf (15:18):
Yeah, we got we got fooled. But it's perfect because
it gave us the opportunity tohave this game that we played
together. Yeah.

Juke (15:25):
And because I was gonna say, I don't know how hard it
would really be for two gamers.
I feel like it would be prettystraightforward. Like, what,
what, but it would be a funthing of like, oh, like, bam,
bam, we're good at this typething.

Perf (15:42):
I don't think you would be very much faster with Divi
because the the biggest part isthe puzzling. So yeah, . But I

Juke (15:53):
do have to restart certain things a few times. And then
it's happened a few times. Itried four or five times. And
then I'm like fuckingpiggybacking versus with two
gamers. You get through thosepretty fast, I'm assuming.

Perf (16:07):
Yeah, it would be a bit faster for sure. But maybe just
the fact that Divi has moreexperience with gaming puzzles.
But,

Juke (16:19):
but I wouldn't use so you wouldn't say that. Playing this
game with two gamers would beboring. You would still find it
enjoyable?

Perf (16:26):
Yeah, faster, but it would be enjoyable still.

Juke (16:28):
Yeah. But definitely, I really think it's a good a good
game to get your beginner, yournewb like, I'm talking to you
gamers out there, grab your nooband try to stop because first of
all, they're cute little yarn, guys. So if you're newb is your
girlfriend or anyone whoappreciates cuteness. And to be
honest, if someone in your lifedoesn't appreciate cuteness,

(16:49):
like what's wrong with them, butlike, it's fun, because you like
this little tiny yarn character.
So they're cute. And you'relike, Okay, you know, this is a
little cute aspect of thecharacter. So it's easy to like,
be like, Oh, yay, fun. And thenyou sit down, the game's not too
hard. You can take your time, there's no real timer or time
limit to it. There's a bunch offail safes had I played that

(17:13):
years and years ago would havebeen a great entry level game
for me to start appreciatingplatformers. And then slowly,
because I do think platformersare one of the easier beginner
games to like, get someone intogaming and appreciating.
appreciating the fun ofcompleting a level and that
feeling of completing a leveland stuff like that, and having

(17:34):
the help and the failsafes Ireally, I cannot think of a
better beginner game,

Perf (17:40):
I think is one of the most well balanced game for
beginners. And because thechallenges are still
entertaining, and you have tothink through them. It's not a
walk in the park.

Juke (17:53):
Yeah, because there was some challenges that perf
couldn't solve. And normally ina video game, I'm just like, I
can't get this

Perf (18:01):
to be honest, knots on my weakness, and there's a lot of
knots. Knots ish.

Juke (18:09):
No, there's no knots complicated, there's no bondage.
There's no knives, but there islooping over things and stuff.
That's bondage. But, um, yeah, and if you're a parent out
there, and you're and you'relistening to this podcast is

(18:31):
because you're trying tounderstand your gamers at home.
And, like, if you're looking tofind a game that you could try
to play with your kids to try toenter that world with them. This
would be a great beginner game.
Because if you if you makemistakes there, it doesn't
really matter if you have torestart. You don't even you

(18:52):
rarely have to restart an entirelevel you have just like many
save points. Yeah. And they kindof have it automatically the
checkpoints, right. So it'sreally not the end of the world.
And then your kids can laughI've made there was a mistake
that I made where I ended uppushing a bucket over the edge
like three times in a row makingthe same stupid mistake because

(19:13):
I kept forgetting to jump. Andat some point, I was crying
laughing because I couldn'tbelieve because I saw this that
the first time I did this stupidmistake. I was like, Oh, that
was a stupid mistake. And then Idid it twice again. I was cry
laughing because like, Icouldn't comprehend how I made
that mistake three times in arow. But it was a fun moment.
And I think if you do have gamerkids at home and you're trying

(19:36):
to enter that world, this is afun little like, after supper
game after your homework gamethat like we can do together
before you know doing whateveryou guys do in your daily
routine.

Perf (19:49):
Yeah, you need that game if you want to bring someone in
gaming world and it's on thecheaper side like 10 bucks or
something like that.

Juke (19:56):
Yeah. And you have to buy once because then you sell on
the couch together and youRight. So we play it on PC.
Right? Is it on Xbox?

Perf (20:07):
I haven't seen on which platform it's offered, but I'm
pretty sure it's on Xbox too. Icould just turn around and check
real quick. But

Juke (20:15):
I mean, you can Google it to you, you know? Yeah. People,
you know that Google? Plus thisis a podcast. So you can like
listen and Google at the sametime.

Perf (20:26):
You ever question? Google it.

Juke (20:28):
Yeah. But to be honest, I would say I suggest this game.
There's a part there's a sectionin this game where you there's,
there's like the main How do Iexplain this, there's like the
main levels, like when youcomplete a level, then you can
do level two. And then when youfinished level two, level three
is unlocked. But there's also aside section with many

(20:50):
challenges, which are harderproblems. Yeah, they were harder
and harder and shorter. And wedid like one, and we really
didn't enjoy it that much. So Iwould say, and I think we
accidentally ended up in thatspot, because I clicked
something that I wasn't supposedto. So I would say, definitely,
if you're trying to get yourbeginner into a game, or

(21:12):
whatever, or if you're abeginner, stick with the levels,
the mini challenges, even thoughthey're called mini challenges,
they're not as fun as the levelsbut like, try everything out. If
you if you want to try it out,try it out. But don't get
discouraged if you try a minichallenge and get and you find
it hard to levels are reallymuch more fun and progressive.
Yeah. Yeah, they were much moreinteresting. And it's fun to

(21:35):
like, just jump around on stuff.
You can really take your time. Ireally love

Perf (21:39):
it. Yeah, we had fun, and we're gonna still have some
more. Yeah, we're not done yet.
Knowing that. And I know there'san second game, which is
similar. But on let's say lesscuter, more. Real side, if you
like, more prison breaks type ofthing. We have the game which is

(22:03):
called A way out.

Juke (22:06):
Okay, but that's not. I wouldn't necessarily say that.
That's a beginner game. Likeit's a split screen. It's like
separate puzzle solving and thencoming together and then
separate.

Perf (22:19):
I think it's, it's splitscreen. But it's a puzzle
solving together. Okay. It'sstill it's still the same
concept, but with a differentset up. If I can say,

Juke (22:30):
Yeah, I think that I think definitely the way that that
sounds we haven't played ittogether yet. But it definitely
sounds more as an interesting CoOp game, then a go to beginner
game.

Perf (22:41):
Yeah, let's say right after when you're done and
unraveled using a with a wayout?

Juke (22:45):
Maybe I don't know.
Because to be honest, I haven'tbeen that interested in trying a
way out and I'm sure once we tryon my I might enjoy it. But
every time you show me thetrailer, I'm never like, Oh,
cool. Let's play this, you know?
So I, as a beginner have nothingto say because I haven't tried
it. But it doesn't look like themost beginner friendly game

(23:08):
necessarily.

Perf (23:09):
No, but it's another one of these rare couch Co Op game.

Juke (23:14):
Oh, it's also got two that's not... interesting. You
can't play separately but asplit screen. So why couldn't
you play separately?

Perf (23:23):
Good question, but I don't think I don't think you can or
if you can, you both need to buyone version. A copy of it.

Juke (23:33):
I don't understand co-op games that can't be played like
online.

Perf (23:37):
It's only the the way it's been programmed.

Juke (23:41):
So work definitely. As we discover more games together.
We'll be making episodes aboutgame suggestions for beginners,
but also eventually justepisodes that are explaining
some more complex games just forthe parents and partners out

(24:03):
there to be able to understandwhat their gamers are playing
like, I'm sure Resident Evil isgoing to be one of those where
we kind of just sit down one dayand talk about a bit of the
story behind Resident Evil justso that you can go home talk to
your gamer and act like you knowwhat you're talking about. And
then like impress them and thenmaybe I don't know get some
flowers out of it. I don't know.
But yeah, I think that's all wehave for now. I hope you guys

(24:26):
enjoyed this episode. This isalso going to be Ooh, this is
gonna be pretty short episode.
But I guess that's what our vibeis today.

Perf (24:38):
trying you know

Juke (24:40):
if you have any suggestions for beginner games,
especially Co Op beginner games, because I think those are the
best games for gamers to gettheir noobs into gaming. Please
