Speaker 1 (00:02):
I think it was you talking about how that nickels
always kind of overlooked and forgotten.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
I know you talked about last year.
Speaker 1 (00:13):
I'm just curious, what have you seen from the position
of itself since you got how taking that maybe.
Speaker 3 (00:22):
Your most outside of Yeah, I mean I didn't realize
the importance of it when I got in In college,
we didn't.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
I played nickel.
Speaker 3 (00:30):
But it's the college and I came here and you
have to be so vocal and communitive, and you gotta
run parts of the defense. And I know it's a
it's a lot more of what people think I'm in
the run past and as well setting up the defense
as well. So it's a lot more complicated. But it's
it's a good it's a good job to have.
Speaker 2 (00:46):
It's fun.
Speaker 4 (00:47):
And there are players that I mean, you there's no
like stand out, like you say, this guy's the standard bearer.
Speaker 2 (00:54):
For that for that role in history. Right, you're a linebacker,
you go back and you can watch these guys play.
If you're a.
Speaker 4 (01:01):
Nickel back, who's the guy you you say a lot
to call off his film and watch it.
Speaker 3 (01:05):
Yeah, especially when I was coming into the league, there's
a lot of guys like the older guys like Kenny
Moore is one of the guys I looked up. I
looked a lot of tape back coming out and like
mc duffie the year he played Nickel and one I
got out. Bro Uh, those were a few guys that
I looked at when I was coming in. So I
mean there's not really the big time ones, like you know,
it was kind of like a I wouldn't say newer,
but it's there's not as many dominant ones throughout the
(01:27):
throughout time. So like the newer guys, I kind of
look after them.
Speaker 2 (01:30):
Step. Yeah, it's like you're a slow safety. Here a
nickel that's changing? You think that's that's changing a lot.
Speaker 3 (01:38):
I mean I don't think almost probably every team has
a nickel kind of a quick guy can cover slot
well as well being the run fit.
Speaker 2 (01:44):
So uh, sprinkle, like everyone has one?
Speaker 5 (01:46):
What's it like one of me and stuff wanted obviously
have to go back to college, but what are those matchups?
Speaker 2 (01:50):
Like? It's good work.
Speaker 3 (01:52):
He's really good on his releases and what he can
bring to the table as a slot receiver because he
can stress the field and work down well. So, uh,
I be gonna get him for a while, but it's
it's still work every day. Every day he brings it too,
so it's a good work.
Speaker 5 (02:03):
What was it like, I guess back from the tech
when you guys first faced off each did you notice
back then like, oh, this guy's got great routes with
these What did you see that first time you saw?
Speaker 3 (02:12):
Yeah, I was in college. Yeah, they didn't let me
guard him that much. I was the backup and every
was they didn't let me go a good stuff. But
he's always had that burst in that quickness to him.
So he's really he's taking his game up, but he's
still the same one.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
Though, I got something free now, Yeah, he's Cook's technology.
We can't go against people. Change now and getting ready
to feel I'm sorry that helicopters kind how does my
say now?
Speaker 3 (02:41):
Yeah, it's just now it's just really focus on what
we have to do every day and getting ready for
a season coming up, so like just getting ready, like
doing what we gotta do. So today it was different
situations and whatnot, but focus on us right now and
just trying to get better for a week.
Speaker 4 (02:55):
One the three and oh preseason reinforce the optimism. Do
you guys have any reported the camp and can carry
it to the bancy.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
Yeah, it's encouraging.
Speaker 3 (03:05):
It's encouraging, but you know, we still got eighteen games,
so he's kind of cocouraging me.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
You gotta put it behind you and work for a
new kind of goal. I guess.
Speaker 5 (03:11):
Yeah, how much take away ould meeting you guys so far?
To take the takeaway chess that you guys said, how much?
Is that?
Speaker 3 (03:18):
That's just what That's a cool little treat, you know,
like you get a turnover, you can go seleven in
the chest and then like it's a cool little thing.
Like coach Shane he talks about being a uh a pirate,
so like kind of adds a little something to it's
kind of an identity for.
Speaker 5 (03:31):
You, Like what does that mean for you to be
a pirate?
Speaker 2 (03:33):
What is what do you take that to mean? Just
try to get as me turnovers as possible. Getting the chess.
Speaker 3 (03:37):
You know, it's kind of a fun thing we have,
but like we kind of like bring a mindset to
you want to be able to go out there and
take the ball back.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
It's not just not gonna come to you.
Speaker 3 (03:45):
But you know it's different things like punching that balls
or jumping route, so like you just go get the
ball back.
Speaker 5 (03:51):
Kind of makes them more fun and does it have
more meeting just kind of after the last year, you
guys didn't give me take away as you wanted to
give more meeting and say, hey, there's another intentive to
get more take aways with that chess.
Speaker 3 (04:00):
Now we always wanted to get takeaways, but we just
hope to get more this year.
Speaker 1 (04:06):
How do how would you describe yourself as a player
today going to this season versus where you.
Speaker 2 (04:13):
Were last year?
Speaker 3 (04:15):
I would say, like wherever grown from last year. I'll
just say my knowledge on the field last year, this
is really fast. I was young, but I feel like
I've really learned the game and it slowed down for
me a lot. So I can make adjustments and calls
on the field that I wouldn't have made last year
I would have missed out on and see things that
the offense are doing. So it's a lot of growth,
(04:36):
especially just mentally. You know, I bring up to what
I do on the field, but that mental part is
what I've grown up.
Speaker 2 (04:41):
How much you've.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
Met You've mentioned the mental part before. How much does
that translate.
Speaker 2 (04:48):
The physical part? The idea that you know what's going on,
you count you also know where you're started to. Yeah,
I mean helps you play faster, Like you, I get
a stay on things.
Speaker 3 (05:00):
And of course I came with the physicality, but now
I can like kind of like guess another step faster
to it, and you know, I kind of know what's
coming stead of just like.
Speaker 2 (05:08):
Seeing ball and going playing ball, I can kind of
anticipate better anything else. How you get your hair so
clean like that?
Speaker 3 (05:18):
Broca, He ain't got no way.
