Speaker 1 (00:00):
So the players voted for captains today, only the players,
and they voted for Russ Wilson, Dexter Lawrence, Brian Burns,
Bobby Okaka, and Darius Slayton. Those are the top five
vote getters and those will be our twenty twenty five captains.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
A special teams Gay.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
Yeah, what we did this year is we said, take
the five five guys. Each player had a sheet with
five guys on it that you think were the best
leaders of the football team and put them one to five.
It was whoever that sorted out to be, that's who
it was going to be. And all five of those
guys were good selections by the players. You changed that
(00:50):
it seems like the last few years.
Speaker 3 (00:51):
But what goes into your thinking and that, you know,
like number of captains, how you go about and maybe
I think every year is different.
Speaker 1 (00:59):
Take care guys involved, and you know there's a number
of other guys that had gotten you know, votes, which
is a good thing relative to the leaders in your room,
like Chris Manhertz for example. But you know, those five
guys got you know, i'd say, considerable amount of votes.
Speaker 4 (01:16):
And I thought that was the right.
Speaker 1 (01:18):
Thing to do.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
I read the thing sing with THEO.
Speaker 1 (01:25):
Yeah, anyone who's out here is can be practicing, and
the ones that aren't or getting ready to practice as
soon as they kind.
Speaker 3 (01:30):
Of feel good about a new being ready.
Speaker 1 (01:32):
For the regular season, just taking it day by day.
Speaker 2 (01:35):
That's the fact that you guys didn't keep Delsich a
sign that he is in good shape.
Speaker 1 (01:41):
Yeah, I'd say the guys that are out here of
practicing are practicing and the other ones are working hard
to get back like normal out.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
Of Andrew here. Yes, it was the first pat of practice.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
Right, Yeah, took some you know, took some reps. Again,
he's day by day, he's getting better every day. You know,
sometimes we pull back off him the next day, but
he's you know, he's doing everything he can do is
be as ready as he.
Speaker 3 (02:04):
Can be.
Speaker 1 (02:07):
Day by day.
Speaker 3 (02:09):
They were just saying he's in the right direction at least.
Speaker 1 (02:12):
Just say day by day, he's working hard to get better.
Speaker 2 (02:18):
You know, you can you know, he was turning.
Speaker 4 (02:20):
He's in the entire sumthing, working and feeling good about
what you had on the offensive line. I'm just curious,
for a player of his caliber, how much Layman's terms,
how much can that affect an entire offense. When you
put a player of Andrews caliber at left tackle, from what.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
You want to do offense, Yeah, i'd say, are the
guys that have been practicing, Hudd and bow have been
doing a very good job of playing their respective roles.
And that's what you expect out of a team. Obviously,
you want every one of your your top players to
be out there. And he's doing everything he can do
at this point in time to keep improving. And you know,
(03:00):
the guys that are behind him on the depth chart
also doing a good job. But of course you would
love to have You'd love to have all your top
guys out there.
Speaker 5 (03:10):
But bo, how is he coming along with that? Obviously
still learning a lot, but you see like he's speaking
of things very well.
Speaker 1 (03:15):
Yeah. Yeah, it's a nice to have carm and James,
and you give credit to the player. He's improves each day,
has the right mindset, has some toughness about him. So developing,
developing well.
Speaker 2 (03:27):
Already going to the fields altogether. And I'm just curious, we're
you guys doing unusual. We were talking.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
Yeah, good observation. Dan can't put along by you. Yeah,
so the.
Speaker 3 (03:46):
Guys after practice, you know, grouped up talking some.
Speaker 4 (03:52):
Vociferously.
Speaker 3 (03:53):
Uh, what do you make about guys saying after practice
getting that extra kind of going over a lot of
the stuff that whatever it is, the Yeah, they do that.
Speaker 1 (04:02):
They do that on a regular basis throughout training camp.
Whether it's routes, whether it's talk about particularly things that happened,
good leadership amongst the players.
Speaker 3 (04:11):
That's what I like.
Speaker 4 (04:15):
Where teams got more successful than others.
Speaker 1 (04:20):
Well, I just think it's important to the guys that
are out there and whether it's a route technique, whether
it's a combo coverage, whether it's a quarterback with the
offensive line, I think that it's good for those guys.
If something's fresh in your mind, you know it's player driven.
And I think player driven leadership is important.
Speaker 2 (04:40):
To see more fiery personalities than that quarterback room than
Ben there for a long time. Do you think that's
a good thing in that room to have a real
vocal guy likely in Russell Thinklynn.
Speaker 1 (04:49):
You know I've been I've been on teams with all
different types of quarterbacks that that have different personalities. I
think the most important thing in that room is to,
you know, make sure you're prepared. Each player has a
different leadership style, and I encourage them to be themselves.
Speaker 5 (05:05):
On that note, do you usually do elaborate more, Do
you usually coax it out of younger players to step
up and be leaders in that way or do you
like for them to kind of show it on their
own just from being around others.
Speaker 1 (05:14):
Well, I think it's good if you have veteran leaders
on your football team, guys that have gone out and
done it, you know, for a while. And I think
we have a number of those players. That's what young
players gravitate towards. Good examples of guys that have been
in the league for a while or have performed at
a high level that you know, not just inside the
building or learning a system, but managing your daily habits
(05:36):
and setting a standard for yourself. And I think, you know,
those young guys are are following right along with some
of our older guys we've got. And you know, the
young guys got to go out there and do it
as well. But you know they're swimming a lot. Young
guys are learning, moving to a new spot, learning new
new system, you know, being the young guy, the new
guy on the team. So the more veteran leaders you
can have, i'd say that's that's good for your foot.
Speaker 5 (06:00):
On that note, do you see that way from Malak
in particular, just kind of how he's being more vocal
for us, said he's being more v Would he see
that God's loving off him a little bit more? Is it?
Speaker 4 (06:08):
What? What do you see from that?
Speaker 1 (06:11):
Yeah, Malak's one of our best players. So you love
your best players to be you know, good leaders too.
I think Neighbors has taken a step in this offseason
in a positive way with his habits and how he
does things outside of the building, the way he takes
care of his body, how he is in the meeting
rooms of communication. He's had leaks in a nice job.
Speaker 3 (06:34):
What'd you see from Tyrone? Tracy Jeff's service first summer
as starter.
Speaker 1 (06:42):
Pro, young pro again, it's helpful with Motor in there
with him. You know, Motor's been around the block and
the ultimate pro. And I think Tracy's really developed in
that area as well, coming into a second here much
like Malik on time on top of his information, hard practicer,
so he's make good steps, good strides, more.
Speaker 3 (07:08):
Ho good no more you know any group, But like,
don't you know, I didn't get any trouble any fights
the next few days, just with guys having so many
days off, what's your message in the team and how
did you handle this mini break and how they handle
getting ready for the season at the same time with
so many days.
Speaker 1 (07:27):
Off, And yeah, and you put a lot of time
and effort into getting to this point and doing you know,
all the right things or this offseason program, the OTA practices.
We've got a good training camp into the preseason. I
had a number of individuals today speak to the team
or had nutritionists, our had security, our had trainer, had
(07:48):
strength and conditioning coach. It's time to, you know, take
a little break, but there's certain steps you have to
take within these next five days to make sure you
come back ready to go and the basic messages be
a pro Jordan, do things right way.
Speaker 4 (08:08):
I know't doing the game plan a little bit today
in today's practice.
Speaker 5 (08:13):
We've spent a.
Speaker 1 (08:13):
Lot of time, you know, I'm sure most coaches have
in the off season, and I'd say for the staffs
probably the last week I've been been on it for
a little bit. We've been focusing against each other. We're
still going to practice against each other. This is kind
of the last day we'll be able to do that
for a while. That's what we're going to focus on,
is continue to do the things that we need to do.
(08:35):
You know, we'll give them a couple of little looks
here and there. This is the last we Got'd say competitive,
Good on good if you will, sorry
Speaker 4 (08:43):
Good on good practice.
