Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's not.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
Whoever, it's not no, I missed you yesterday.

Speaker 1 (00:05):
Yeah, people, and I don't there rehabbing.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
Everybody else will be ready to go. You guys making
any moves today or saving all that for a while tomorrow.
What are you standing on your tight end? Where do
you stand on your tight end?

Speaker 1 (00:23):
Rum? Like? Relative to how do you feel about it?
I think they've all all done a nice job, working hard,
getting better.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
Good group.

Speaker 1 (00:34):
It would seem from the outside that there's some tough
decisions that are gonna have to be made at that
once particularly well I said, there's tough decisions for every
for every position on a team. That's why this time
of the years is tough a lot of tough decisions
to make, and you can only keep a certain amount.

Speaker 3 (00:51):
This is the practice bad rules and the high rules
help at this time that when you're a piece of
things together.

Speaker 2 (00:57):
Well the number is isn't advance. But you never know
what's going to happen.

Speaker 1 (01:02):
If you release a guy, could they get claimed, they
not want to come like there's you know, those are
all conversations we're here having the next day.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
So you you try to strategize. But it's similar to
the drafts.

Speaker 1 (01:15):
You don't know who could get claimed, who couldn't get claimed,
And not a lot of people do get claimed. I
think there's roughly eleven eighty five that get released. Take
a look at how many people have gotten claimed over
the last four or five years at each position. But
it only takes one team to to like the guy.

Speaker 3 (01:33):
Is that factor when you're a sign between two guys like,
all right, they're kind of equal, but this guy might
be one if they'd be claimed.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
Is that part of the consideration I would say for us,
for the coaching staff is more this is who we,
you know, believe earned the roster spot. And then there's
other discussions that can be had because I'd say, you know,
Joe and his staff know the entire league. They're looking
at the entire league. They've been, you know, studying tape
of all the preseason games. Where the coaches are more
locked down on our team and schemes and improving guys

(02:02):
fundamentals and things like that.

Speaker 2 (02:04):
Through the years.

Speaker 4 (02:05):
I'm sure things change for your assistant coach here, think
your coordinator, your.

Speaker 2 (02:10):
Head coach, and how evolved you are.

Speaker 4 (02:12):
I'm just curious for you guys. This year you put
so much work into the roster, from going all the
way back to evaluating last year.

Speaker 2 (02:20):
Where you're sitting now, is it very close to what
you anticipated?

Speaker 4 (02:24):
Do you play those games of okay, here's where what
we think it'll be in.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
August to late August?

Speaker 4 (02:30):
Then do you compare it contrast that way? Is that
kind of how you go through it? You know?

Speaker 1 (02:34):
Are we just we come out here, we practice, We
evaluate the tape of the players practicing and their performances
in the preseason, how they are in the meeting rooms,
how they're picking up the system, what kind of teammate
they are, and that's where where our focus is. And
then trying to build the best team we can. And
that's how we talk as coaching staff.

Speaker 2 (02:53):
And you're you're sorry, sorry.

Speaker 5 (02:55):
Kind of.

Speaker 6 (02:58):
In year four, do you guys feel like I don't
know if this is true, but when you take over
your year one of a regime, maybe you're more active
on the waiver claim adding people from other teams. Where now,
when you've had a handful of your own free decides
and handful of your drafts, the priorities now let's keep
our guys in house when it comes to.

Speaker 2 (03:14):
That practice fund.

Speaker 1 (03:16):
Yeah, I'd say every year is different, the conversations you
have and the people that are out there. Again, our
personnel staff has been very busy of watching other players
on other teams as we're you know, preparing for our
practices and our fundamentals like I till Dan, So every
year is different.

Speaker 2 (03:33):
You know, you like a lot of the guys.

Speaker 1 (03:34):
You wish you could keep all of them that are
out here working hard and put everything into it. But
again the other part of it is you're always trying
to improve your football team. So if there's people out
there that personnel department is looking at and they'll you know,
the next couple of days that might give them to
a coach and take a look at and come together
have a conversation. And that happens every year. I wouldn't
say it's any different from one to two, to three

(03:55):
to four or however many years you do it. Every years,
it's new year, and all you're trying to do is
put the best team out there.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
Your your week one opponent just solved their biggest problem.
I hope you saw Perry. Someone told me that.

Speaker 6 (04:06):
Yeah, any reaction to that and what you guys said, ever,
did your pre work whatever, little pre work you've done
on them.

Speaker 2 (04:13):
Did you always just assume he would be there?

Speaker 1 (04:15):
Yeah, I mean we'll get to Washington here in the
next few days relative to our conversation, so we're focused
on us.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
He's a heck of a player, dynamic perimeter, skilled.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
Player, makes a lot of plays, explosive run after the catch.
Was very productive last year with Jaden, productive before that,
but even more so when he got five with him,
unbelievable person. Had a chance to go and have a
pre draft visit with him and it was one of
my favorite favorite pre draft visits that I had with him.

Speaker 2 (04:46):
Just the type of person that he is. So he's
a hack of player. I love that.

Speaker 1 (04:53):
I guess what goes into making like a good person
in that visit that said makes it your favorite, Well,
he was just a genuine guy, very down to earth,
very respectful, very smart, was productive there at Ohio State.

Speaker 2 (05:06):
Just had a good vibe with him at the dinner
that we had. Elizah chat Miley watch a couple of
guys that full back the other day. How much is
that versatility?

Speaker 1 (05:17):
How much do you prioritize that when you look at
guys and you go and make these rosters.

Speaker 2 (05:22):
It's not only that like other positions, but also special teams.

Speaker 1 (05:26):
Yeah, well, special teams is huge, particularly for the players
that don't start, and I'd say position flexibility comes into
that as well. You know, we're just trying to give
some more roles out for players to be able to
showcase what they can do. Again, that's when we evaluate
the roster. We evaluate each position. There's a lot of
things that go into a Jordan and you know, our

(05:46):
job is to try to put the best roster we
can together.

Speaker 4 (05:50):
If you're looking at that, how much can somebody do
something today to negatively or positively affect which side of
the line they're on.

Speaker 2 (05:58):
Yeah, it's getting down here to the wire.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
There's still some some discussions that have been had this
morning that will we have tonight. You know, you know
we're getting we're getting pretty close here, so we'll have
another practice here today and make our decision and you know,
unfortunately do that stuff tomorrow. Is there a world you
can keeping all four of movies? Yeah, Look, there's there's

(06:21):
a lot of discussions we've had, so we'll do what
we think is best for our team.

Speaker 2 (06:25):
How much is.

Speaker 5 (06:27):
Going back to going back to chat real quick, how
do you try to measure out how any stamps the
guy gets on on both sides oppositely, that's not common,
But how do you measure kind of what he can
do on defense? But also you know, giving him enough
for us and all been taking you know, pets some package.

Speaker 2 (06:42):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (06:43):
Look, if you're not a starter, you know, we've got
plenty of opportunities that whether it's special teams that you're
going to have to perform at and if you're not
a starter on defense and we can find a role
for you on offense.

Speaker 2 (06:56):
That helps.

Speaker 1 (06:57):
But again, you know there's there's a lot of this
discussions that have taken place on a variety of players,
I would say the entire team, and we'll do what
we think is best.

Speaker 2 (07:06):
Obviously, Tommy King here is an undrafted free agent. How
much has he proven to you that he, you know,
can be a following quarterback in this league.

Speaker 1 (07:14):
Yeah, Tommy's done everything we've asked him to do since
he's been here.
