Speaker 1 (00:00):
Sliding practice for Jackson.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
Yeah, got the win knocked out of him. He's good. Yeah,
I would let him slide on that.

Speaker 1 (00:09):
Seven points and three preseason games. I'm seven points and
three preseason games. How pleased are you with just that scoring?

Speaker 2 (00:16):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (00:17):
Well, I think just that the effort of the guys
is what we really focused on. The discipline, their team first, attitude,
their work ethic, you know, big things. Accountability to one another,
to the coaches, to the players. Again, it's a process
of training camp to the preseason games and being able

(00:38):
to execute, you know, regardless of who's in there. You know,
there's a standard that you know, I'm gonna help hold
everybody too. And you know, we got seventeen days here
before the first one, so we've got a lot of
work still to get done.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
In college. Jackson's aggressiveness when running through the hall was
was a note when he was coming out of college
and received him die a decent amount to practice. How
to aggressive again in the Bills game and now this one,
I mean, how do you coach it out of him?
How you balance it? If you don't want to take
it away? Also you can say how how do you
find that? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (01:09):
I went to coach it out of them, and there's
just certain times that you got to make the right decision.
I would say in this particular game is probably a
good time to slide the third preseason game. You know,
every situation is different. I've had different quarterbacks that can
that can run and are pretty productive running the football.

(01:31):
You know, there's a time and the place. You know
you'd like to take as few hits as you can.
But I like Jackson's competitiveness, his toughness. You know, we've
got to make the right decision, and those are split
second decisions, Connor, So you know, I trust I trust him,
I trust the guys that that I've been around, our guys.

(01:52):
I trust him to do the right thing. But I'll
never take his competitiveness away or.

Speaker 1 (01:56):
To decide until a second where they go downloading.

Speaker 3 (02:00):
Of the r Yeah, I think that's probably a good
question for for Jackson and those guys that that do it.

Speaker 2 (02:05):
You know, things happened to split second in this league.

Speaker 3 (02:08):
Certainly don't want to take any unnecessary hits, but I
love his competitiveness and his toughness.

Speaker 1 (02:15):
I do you think you did today? I mean, you
know it's because his first start, I true's exciting.

Speaker 2 (02:20):
I mean every ball should have been complete, so for
all but one, maybe it.

Speaker 4 (02:27):
Was your plan to take came out at that point though,
just to like, no matter whether you took that.

Speaker 2 (02:32):
Hit or not, was it your plan? I'm sorry?

Speaker 4 (02:34):
Was it your plan for him to only play that
to that point in the game and then go to
Jamis or would you have put Jackson back in if
you're not taking a hat.

Speaker 3 (02:40):
No, Jamis was up and then Tommy was just going
to play in the second half.

Speaker 1 (02:45):
How did you see your Thomas play?

Speaker 3 (02:47):
I thought all the quarterbacks played well. I thought they've
played well all preseason. Thought they've played well all training camp. Decisive, quick,
good decision making. You know, we threw that pick down
there and the end zone again, but timely I think helped.
The line line's doing a nice job, but the quarterbacks

(03:08):
are doing a nice job as well. Dave, how did
Dave's How did Jackson dish made no decision at some
point yesterday.

Speaker 1 (03:15):
And then even earlier that he was going to start tonight.
How did his process change.

Speaker 4 (03:21):
With at all from last night that today? If he
gives him opportunities that you know, kind of simulate what
it would.

Speaker 1 (03:28):
Be like starting to game.

Speaker 3 (03:29):
Yeah, it was a short week. Art obviously we played
what Saturday, so it was a short week. You know
that Jackson had an idea he was going to start
for the week. I think that's important. Again, it's the
third preseason game. You're not putting a lot of really
not doing any game planning. But for a quarterback, you know,

(03:50):
whatever calls we put on a call sheet to prepare.

Speaker 2 (03:54):
But he needs to prepare like that every week.

Speaker 5 (03:56):
So to all the quarterbacks, good, it's a tough spot
days for you and your quarterback. If you had four quarterbacks,
who you know, it becomes the numbers game at some point.

Speaker 1 (04:10):
But to get the.

Speaker 5 (04:11):
Play that you've gotten out of your quarterbacks, who knows
what's gonna happen on Tuesday.

Speaker 4 (04:16):
But it's rare for a team to keep four.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
Is it hard for you because you spent so much
time with these quarterbacks?

Speaker 5 (04:23):
And I know it's hard every year at every possion. Yeah,
but just to get to get exactly what you've gotten
out of these four guys, is it's gonna be hard
to move forward if you have to move forward.

Speaker 3 (04:33):
Yeah, yeah, i'd say with every player, Art, I know
it's you know Obviously the quarterbacks around them a lot,
you develop a special relationship with them. But for every player,
you know, they put so much time and effort into,
you know, being the best that they can be to
try to make a roster and unfortunately you can only
keep a certain amount. I certainly appreciate everybody's you know again,

(04:57):
work ethic and commitment to the team, even the way
the guys were playing all the way up until the end.
I know it's the third preseason game, but I think
there's something to be said for the level of discipline
and accountability and effort that they've give all the way through.
And you guys on the sideline jumping up and down
or running down after DJ had TJ had that pick,
you know, trying to build something. But it's it's you know,

(05:20):
these next couple of days are are tough, tough on
the players, and they're tough on the personnel staff, the
coaching staff, because this is a relationship business.

Speaker 1 (05:29):
Where do you think Jay when like the one beat
him in the shoulder then makes a catch on the loan.

Speaker 2 (05:33):
Yeah, you had a nice touchdown, What about the other
keep one for Jackson? Go back and look at it.

Speaker 1 (05:38):
You know, now that we're through the off season, three
camp preseasons going. We spent a lot of time talking
about you're playing with Jackson. You know through it all,
did you accomplish what you wanted to with him to
this point? Did you were able to do a little
bit more than what you expected when this whole thing to.

Speaker 3 (05:54):
Get Yeah, it's a kind of run a day to
day plan with the with the young quarterback.

Speaker 2 (06:00):
Every day we're learning something.

Speaker 3 (06:04):
For example, I put him out there at coin toss
today and he's running up to me three.

Speaker 2 (06:09):
Minutes what do you want me to do again? I've
never done this before. Just on you know, the last second.

Speaker 3 (06:13):
I told him you're going out there right when I
got here today, a few minutes before we went out there.
So he's thinking about that and just try to do
things that you know may come up one day with him.
So we'll keep on building them. I think Shay and
Calf have done a really good job with him. I
think he's done a good job. Credit the player first

(06:34):
and foremost, being a rookie quarterback is not easy. Being
a quarterback is not easy. So he knows he's got
a lot of things to work on, but he's made
progress every day, and I'm glad.

Speaker 2 (06:47):
I'm glad we drafted. I'm glad he's our guy.

Speaker 3 (06:51):
Yeah, I have do It was less, you know, you know,
I usually have the quarterback out there and decide what
we're gonna do. He's like, wait a minute, so to
take the ball, but what if they defer which way
you want me to kick? So there was there was
just things. He's out there warming up and he's coming
over to me. I'm like what, and he's got too quiet.
I'm like, don't worry about that, just let's go. But
I wanted him to think about, you know, you know,

(07:14):
what it'll be like one day
