Speaker 1 (00:00):
John Hack feels like the offensive line came out of.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
The pre season.

Speaker 3 (00:08):
I think we really started to kind of develop the
kind of identity and brand that we wanted to put
on display. And we're building from last year, like with
returning basically all the guys that we had from last year, uh,
continuing to get comfortable and develop that that culture we
have as offensive line and going forward. And I feel

(00:31):
like I really like where we're at all across the
board with our veteran leadership, our young guys, and our
coaching staff are all really pulling the right direction. And
I feel like we had a good training camp, good preseason,
but it doesn't really mean thing until you know, Week
one against Washington and we're all super excited to you know,
get going and proof who we are.

Speaker 1 (00:50):
How would you describe that brand? And I think you
said brand and identity of the.

Speaker 2 (00:55):
Offensive line or whatever the word do you use, How
would you define that?

Speaker 3 (01:00):
I think we just want to be kind of what
Dave's talks about all the times, smart, tough, dependable, and
we really want to be the kind of the heartbeat
of this this team, in this offensive unit both sides,
the offensive defensive line, And I think we're we're one
of the most you know, veteran positions on this team.
We've got a lot of great players and I just

(01:22):
feel like this this offensive line unit has you know,
the chances to be one of the best in the league.
And I feel like we've been proven that self, proven
that to ourselves each day in training camp, and we're
all really excited to get going coming up against Washington.

Speaker 4 (01:39):
John, You've proven yourself in this league to this point individually,
and yeah, this week is always that weird week right
between the start at the end of the preseason and
started regular season. As a veteran moving forward, now, how
do you challenge yourself on a daily basis and also
obviously during the game week to be better than what
you were of the day before. Lay out a plan

(02:01):
for yourself. Here's what I got work on to that
years just strong practice.

Speaker 3 (02:07):
Yeah, it's a little mixture of both. I feel like
myself during this time, I'm kind of just focusing on
like the little things I see myself, you know, just
not necessarily that not focusing on completely, but try to,
you know, keep reiterating small things to myself.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
That's an individual periods. Carrying it over to team.

Speaker 3 (02:27):
And watching myself in practices and always trying to think
of one small thing I can focus on and get.

Speaker 2 (02:33):
Better at each day.

Speaker 3 (02:34):
And I feel like I've been doing that this training camp,
and I'm starting to feel really good and comfortable with
myself and this offensive line as a as a whole,
and you know, the five guys we have out there.
So it's really kind of weak to week basis things
what I'm seeing and either the practice or the game,
and what to expect against whichever opponent we're playing and

(02:54):
going forward, but at this point not necessarily focused on
Washington right now, just kind of keep a building on
what I can do to get myself better and our
offensive line better.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
What have you seen from Andrew since he's been activated.

Speaker 3 (03:08):
Yeah, he's I think he was out doing individual individual periods.
He's getting there. I mean, he's probably one of the
most valuable pieces of our entire team, you know, cornerstone
and his franchise right now, and getting him back out there,
you know, gets a little, you know, a little jolt

(03:28):
to the guys, excited to see our leader and captain
out there, and whenever he's ready, we're walking him back
with open arms and.

Speaker 1 (03:37):
Just slide him, Like as much as he's played and whatnot,
do you feel like he's the kind of guy you
could just slide in after not having him all training.

Speaker 3 (03:44):
Him, I like to hope, so, for sure, Yeah, he was.
He was awesome to play against. I played with you
know that time that the first few weeks I had
him and made my life a lot easier. And you know,
whenever he's ready, glad to have him back. But I
don't I don't necessarily feel like there's any hurry to

(04:04):
rush him out there early in the season. You know,
I feel comfortable with this offensive line, where this team,
in our defense is heading. I mean, I just I
just want him to be his one hundred percent out there,
both physically and mentally before he goes out there trying
to push him. But you know, that's his decision and
he's gonna deal with it how he does.

Speaker 2 (04:23):
How would you assess all Eric's that thro preseason? How so,
how would you assess all Evan has done in preseason?

Speaker 3 (04:30):
Evan, you know, it's it's a big it's a big transition.
I mean every position on the offensive line, center to
guard and guard to tackle, they're they're all completely different.

Speaker 2 (04:39):
Positions.

Speaker 3 (04:40):
I know, from the outside, they kind of all look
super similar, but the I mean, a lot of players
have gone through that. I went through it when I
was coming into the league, moved from guard to tackle,
and it's a different.

Speaker 2 (04:53):
World he's doing. He's been doing a great job. He's
such a big body.

Speaker 3 (04:58):
He understands you get you're fee in front of the guy,
and you know, it's a little different from tackle.

Speaker 2 (05:02):
You can't really run people up the field.

Speaker 3 (05:04):
And you know, he's got the frame, he's got the build,
he's got the strength to.

Speaker 2 (05:09):
Be in there and throw his body around.

Speaker 3 (05:10):
He's a he's a fantastic run blocker, and you know,
bigger bodies on the inside, but you know, you got
to stay in front of the guys. It's tougher to
stay in front of the guys on the inside because
you got to square them.

Speaker 2 (05:22):
Up and don't give up too much pressure. But he's
been doing a good job.

Speaker 3 (05:26):
Looking forward to him developing, keep getting there, and there
definitely is something there and I'm excited to see him
keep working at it and he it's I mean, it's
tough tough to make a position change just over a
training camp, but I think he's been doing a good
job so far on and excited to see how he
continues to develop with him.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
How long they take time to be comfortable when you
make that change.

Speaker 3 (05:46):
Yeah, I wouldn't necessarily say I feel comfortable after one
full training camp. My rookie year and even my rookie
year always our scout team center. So what kind of
moved all away from tackle to you know, training camp
mainly guard, and then once we got into the season,
I was scout team center, so being thrown around. I mean,

(06:09):
I really don't even think I felt good at that
guard my second training camp in the league, and then
my first start was a week two at guard, so
I was still really trying to feel it out and
really feel comfortable. Now, obviously I feel like left guard
is my home and feel comfortable in there, But it's
each position, it's it's like a different island center center.

(06:29):
You get to be able to work both sides, left
and right. Guard is you know, from a tackle's mindset,
different mentality. With tackle, you can get get a lot
deeper run the defensive end up the field and buy
around ten yards. Back guard you got to square guys
up and you know, digging the ground and fight and
not get and not get pushed back into the quarterbacks.

Speaker 2 (06:47):
So they're all different and unique in their own ways.

Speaker 1 (06:52):
Yea, his camp, how he played you know, next to
you for a while, because yeah, it's pretty important here.

Speaker 3 (06:58):
Yeah, I think bringing him in here was really important.
He's done a really good job. He has a versatility.
When he was in Cleveland play left and right tackle.
When he brings that here, he brings a different different mindset. Yeah,
good edge, physical player, extremely twitchy as well.

Speaker 2 (07:22):
Fun playing against him, playing with him.

Speaker 3 (07:24):
I played with him in college as well a couple
of years and getting back to that with him, it's
just cool, kind of kind of those you know, those
moments and you know you kind of grew up playing
with someone or whether that was like in high school
or college or now you guys are both you know,
living out your your dream together and you share that together.
So it's been really awesome playing next to him and
just kind of feeling, you know, that connection we have.

(07:47):
And I mean he's been great. He's he's been that
kind of tone cheddar for us at tackle and doing
well
