Schmult Tiki barber with you. We are awaiting head coach
Brian Dable at the podium downstairs. The Giants with another

(00:33):
dominant preseason effort tik a forty two to ten victory.
That is now one hundred and seven points scored by
the Giants over three preseason games. Of Art stapleton tweet
is accurate. It is the first time in franchise history
they have scored thirty or more points in three consecutive
preseason games. So I guess we'll look at the top
five offense and thirteen and four.

Speaker 3 (00:56):
We would hope so, but I doubt it. Ultimately, you
just want to execution in the preseasons. What we said
before the very first preseason game against the Buffalo Bills.
What you need and what you expect from a well
coached team is positive execution.

Speaker 1 (01:10):
On a consistent basis.

Speaker 3 (01:12):
And there's one thing you can say about this Giant
offense this preseason it is just preseason, is that they
did exactly that, and it was all the quarterbacks. Obviously,
the first two games we focused mostly on Jackson Dart
and Russell Wilson making some big plays and scoring points.
But in this game, the second half, it was all
Tommy DeVito, I mean, as decisive of a decision making

(01:34):
that you've seen from him all preseason, obviously extended times.
So we got a chance to make some of those throws,
but he hit his back foot, ball was out, and
most importantly, kind of like Jackson Dart, they were all
on target right where he wanted to put him. And
so you give a ton of credit to Tommy de Vito. Again,
it's gonna be hard for him to make this team.
You don't keep four quarterbacks in today's NFL. There's just

(01:56):
not enough roster spots. But he made an impression and
it's going to be hard to move on from him.
If they do decide to move on from him.

Speaker 2 (02:04):
Yeah, it looks very hard to keep four quarterbacks. You
might have to Cleveland Browns do that this year. Usually
teams don't do that. So that'll be decision the Giants
that to make by Tuesday at four o'clock when those
final roster decisions have to be made. And I'll throw
out something just about the offense Tea and we were
kind of joking about this watching the game of the
second half. I haven't tracked every play, but I would
venture that probably about half the pass plays the Giants

(02:27):
have run this preseason were either RPOs or screen passes.

Speaker 3 (02:32):
Right, they're gonna be I think, I think Kellen Moore
or not Kellen Moore. I think Mike Kafka is so
focused on getting the ball into the playmaker's hands as
easily and quickly as possible that running screens, running these
quick slants, running these RPOs. Where the quarterback makes the
decision is if that linebacker or whoever the read guy is,

(02:55):
it could be the safety is sneaking up at all
into the run, pull it and throw darts. And Tommy
DeVito did that to a great degree this evening, and
you give them a ton of credit, But I think
Mike Kafka is on to something you have when you
have playmakers like we've talked about with this Giants team
that they that they put together, get them the ball.

(03:16):
Don't do anything complicated, Just get them the ball and
let them go be playmakers. And you saw all levels
of guys doing that.

Speaker 2 (03:22):
And about your offensive line too, getting the ball out
quite running screen passes. It certainly helps that group out.
Tommy dev mentioned it seventeen of twenty one hundred ninety
eighty yards three touchdowns. R let's say the time out.

Giants defeat the New England Patriots forty two to ten
in the third and final preseason game. Moodies is a
proud partner of the New York Giants Decode Risk, Unlock Opportunity,
Learn Moore at moodies dot com, John schmult Tiki Barber
with you and Tiky. We talked about the quarterbacks and
the offense, and the Giants ran the ball pretty well
in this game too. You know, we mentioned we talked

(04:17):
about Jackson Dart Scramble at hat time. We can get
back to his performance in a little bit, but I
want to tip my cap to Jonathan Ward, who I
thought out a couple of really nice runs in this game.
And then again Dante Turbo Miller on his first carry,
he kind of showed his ability to get outside. He
outwent the edge to get to the sideline for a
nice eighty yard game and I thought he was effective again.

Speaker 1 (04:35):
And then we saw camp scattable for the first time
as well.

Speaker 3 (04:37):
Yeah, camp scataboill only getting three carries on the afternoon
on the evening in twelve yards, so four yards a
carry doesn't really amount to much. You obviously don't want
him to risk getting reinjured. But you know, Turbo Miller,
Dante Miller, and Jonathan Ward had a ton of production
both in the run game and in the past game.
And again you go back to some of the playo

(05:00):
it's it's I think Daves and Kafka wanted to just
see how these guys perform.

Speaker 1 (05:05):
And how they how they how they how they produce.

Speaker 3 (05:08):
And given situations like they've been given, and it was
it was impressive to watch. And again, we've had this
conversation before after last week's game, and it's gonna be
the same one this week.

Speaker 1 (05:18):
You got some good players that you're.

Speaker 3 (05:19):
Gonna have to let go of if you're the New
York Giants, and guys that you hope to in some
capacity grab onto. It would extend, you know, bring them
back on the practice squad. I guess, but uh, you know,
I'm I've been impressed with the play calling. I've been
impressed with the lack of pressure, even though there were
some pressures giving up giving up in this game, only
one sack the offensive line allowed.

Speaker 1 (05:41):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (05:41):
This offense executed to a really high degree through all levels,
first team, second team, and the third team guys that
were in there for most of this game.

Speaker 2 (05:50):
I want to give you a chance to give war
some credit on a screen pass. I know you like
the way you kind of handle this Blox and then
kind of took off at the end.

Speaker 3 (05:56):
Yeah, get running screens is it's it's nuanced, it's it's
a dance. You have to have a lot of patience
because there's so much green grass, as we talked about
last week. But also give your offensive linemen who were
running to make those blocks a chance to make those blocks.
But once you clear though, once you're past those big guys,
don't let the obstacles of the opposing UH defenders distract you.

Speaker 1 (06:19):
And Ward did exactly that.

Speaker 3 (06:21):
He made a couple of really good moves, got around
his big guys, got into the open field, and it
was a b line to the end zone. I always
tell when my kids were playing football, aja and and chasing,
I'd always say, stop, don't look for the defender when
you catch a pass, don't look for the defender for daylight,
day run for look look at your goal because when
you take your eye off the goal, you see the obstacle,

(06:44):
and that's when the and the obstacle tends.

Speaker 1 (06:45):
To get in your way. So it was, it was,
it was a fantastic touchdown by Ward.

Speaker 2 (06:49):

Speaker 4 (06:59):
You are listening to Giants Extra Point on the WFAN
Giants Radio Network.

Speaker 2 (07:04):
We're back here on Giants Extra Point. John Schmelt, Tiki
Barber with you. The New York Football Giants defeat the
New England Patriots forty to ten, and Tiki, we talked
a little bit about the quarterback play, specifically Tommy DeVito
just was getting the ball out really quick and accurately
in that second half. You look at Jackson Dart's total
numbers here.

Speaker 1 (07:24):
We talked about this.

Speaker 2 (07:25):
In the half a little bit, six of twelve, eighty
one yards and one touchdown in this game. But I
really feel like he made more on target downfield passes
in this game than he did in his first couple
when his overall numbers we've even better.

Speaker 3 (07:39):
He just didn't get a ton of help from his receiver. Yeah,
he didn't get a ton of help of Rumbers receivers.
He had some drops early in this game. We talked
about it a little bit earlier from Jalen Hyatt's two
in particular that he had that got to his body.

Speaker 1 (07:52):
You know, a Monti tumor. Back in my day, was
the king of catching those.

Speaker 3 (07:56):
Passes that were disrupted or your body was off schedule,
and he would like he could put his elbows together,
even with pads on, and so anytime the ball would
get into that little catch radius, it was his. And
Jalen Hyatt should go look at some tape of a
money and see how he does that, because he got

(08:17):
disrupted on a couple of these routes and he just
couldn't corral a couple of really good throws, and so
it's one of those things that you look at you
need to work on going forward.

Speaker 1 (08:26):
Brian David was at the podium downstairs. I was listen it.

Speaker 5 (08:28):
I'll go home and get a good night's sleep.

Speaker 1 (08:31):
All good slot practice for Jackson.

Speaker 5 (08:35):
Yeah, got the win knocked out of him.

Speaker 1 (08:37):
He's good. Yeah, I would like him to slide on that.

Speaker 6 (08:41):
Seven points and three preseason games.

Speaker 1 (08:44):
Seven points and.

Speaker 6 (08:45):
Three preseason games. How pleased are.

Speaker 7 (08:46):
You with just that scoring?

Speaker 1 (08:48):
Uh?

Speaker 5 (08:49):
Well, I think just that the effort of the guys
is what we really focused on. The discipline, their team first, attitude,
their work ethic. You know, big things, the kind of
ability to one another, to the coaches, to the players,
and it's a process of training camp to the preseason
games and being able to execute, you know, regardless of

(09:12):
who's in there. You know there's a standard that you know,
I'm gonna help hold everybody too. And you know, we
got it seventeen days here before the first one, so
we've got a lot of work still to get done.

Speaker 8 (09:25):
Jackson's aggressiveness when running with the ball was was a
note currently he was coming.

Speaker 7 (09:29):
Out of college and you've seen him die a decent
amount of.

Speaker 8 (09:32):
Practice and how aggressive again in the Bills game and
now this one. I mean, how do you coach it
out of them?

Speaker 7 (09:37):
How you balance if you don't want to take it away?

Speaker 5 (09:39):
But also you can say how do you find that, Yeah,
I went coach it out of them. There's just certain
times that you got to make the right decision. I
would say in this particular game is probably a good
time to slide in the third preseason game. You know,
every situation is different. I've had different quarterbacks that can

(10:00):
that could run and are pretty productive running the football.
You know, there's a time and the place, you know
you'd like to take as few hits as you can.
But I like Jackson's competitiveness, his toughness. You know, we've
got to make the right decision. Those are split second decisions, Connor,
So you know, I trust I trust him, I trust

(10:21):
the guys that that I've been around, our guys. I
trust him to do the right thing. But I'll never
take his competitiveness away, or.

Speaker 8 (10:29):
To think to decide this second where they go down
where they get up.

Speaker 5 (10:33):
Yeah, I think that's probably a good question for for
Jackson and those guys that that do it. You know,
things happen in split second in this league. Certainly don't
want to take any unnecessary hits. But I love his
competitiveness and his toughness.

Speaker 9 (10:48):
You think did today, I mean, you.

Speaker 1 (10:49):
Know, because his first start.

Speaker 7 (10:50):
I'm true, he's exciting.

Speaker 5 (10:52):
I mean every ball should have been complete so.

Speaker 1 (10:57):
Or all but one.

Speaker 9 (10:58):
Maybe was your your plan to take came out at
that point though, just to like, no matter whether you
just took that hit or not, was it your plan?

Speaker 1 (11:06):
I'm sorry, was it your plan for.

Speaker 9 (11:07):
Him to only play that to that point in the
game and then go to Jamis or would you have
put Jackson back in if you had not taken a hat.

Speaker 5 (11:12):
No, Jamis was up and then Tommy was just gonna play.
Uh in the second half?

Speaker 6 (11:17):
How did what did you think your Thomas played?

Speaker 5 (11:20):
I thought all the quarterbacks played well. Thought they've played
well all preseason. Thought they've played well all training camp. Decisive, quick,
good decision making. You know, we threw that pick down
there in the end zone again, but timely I think
helped the line. Yeah, line's doing a nice job, but
the quarterbacks are doing a nice job as well.

Speaker 10 (11:42):
Dave, how did Dave's how did uh Jackson dies?

Speaker 1 (11:45):
Shoot?

Speaker 10 (11:45):
He made no decision at some point yesterday in an
even earlier.

Speaker 6 (11:48):
That he was gonna start tonight. How did his process
change with at all from last night to today?

Speaker 10 (11:56):
Did you give you him opportunities that, you know, kind
of simulate what it would be like?

Speaker 5 (12:02):
Yeah, it was a short week art obviously we played
what Saturday, so it was a short week. You know
that Jackson had an idea he was gonna start for
the week. I think that's important. Again, it's the third
preseason game. You're not putting a lot of really not
doing any game planning, But for a quarterback, you know,

(12:22):
whatever calls. We put on a call sheet, uh to prepare.

Speaker 11 (12:26):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (12:26):
But he needs to prepare like that every week. So
to all the quarterbacks, oh, good.

Speaker 10 (12:36):
Spot stage for you and your quarterback. You for you
had four quarterbacks who you know, if he comes the
numbers game at some point. But to get the play
that you've gotten out of your quarterbacks, who knows what's
gonna happen on Tuesday. But it's rare for a team
to keep.

Speaker 5 (12:51):
For Is it hard for.

Speaker 10 (12:53):
You cause you spent so much time with these quarterbacks
and I know.

Speaker 3 (12:56):
It's hard every year at every persision.

Speaker 10 (12:58):
Yeah, but just to get it, get exactly what you've
gotten out of these four guys, it's gonna be hard
to move forward, to move forward.

Speaker 5 (13:05):
Yeah, yeah, I'd say with every player art I know,
it's you know, obviously the quarterbacks around them a lot.
You develop a special relationship with them. But for every player,
you know, they put so much time and effort into,
you know, being the best that they can be to
try to make a roster and unfortunately you can only
keep a certain amount. I certainly appreciate everybody's you know again,

(13:29):
work ethic and commitment to the team, even the way
the guys were playing all the way up until the end.
I know it's the third preseason game, but I think
there's something to be said for the level of discipline
and accountability and effort that they've give all the way through.
And you know, guys on the sideline jumping up and
down or running down after DJ had TJ had that pick.
You know, trying to build something. But it's it's you know,

(13:53):
these next couple of days are are tough, tough on
the players, and they're tough on the personnel staff, the
coaching staff, because this is a relationship business.

Speaker 1 (14:00):
When do you think Jalen did like the one get
him in the.

Speaker 5 (14:03):
Shoulder then makes a catch on the loan, Yeah, he
had a nice touchdown.

Speaker 12 (14:07):
What about the other people to Jackson?

Speaker 5 (14:09):
Go back and look at it.

Speaker 8 (14:11):
You know, now that we're through the off season, training camp,
pre season's gone, we spent a lot of time talking
about your playing with Jackson through it all.

Speaker 7 (14:21):
Did you accomplish what you wanted to with him to
this point?

Speaker 8 (14:23):
Did you were you able to do a little bit
more than what you expected when this.

Speaker 5 (14:26):
Whole gang to get to them, Yeah, I'd say kind of.
We're on a day to day plan with the with
the young quarterback. Every day we're learning something. And for example,
I put him out there at coin toss today and
he's running up to me three minutes, what do you
want me to do again? I've never done this before,
just on you know, the last second. I told him

(14:46):
you're going out there right when I got here today,
a few minutes before we went out there. So he's
thinking about that, and you know, just try to do
things that you know may come up one day with him,
so we'll keep on building them. I think Shay and
Calf have done a really good job with him. I
think he's done a good job. Credit the player first
and foremost. Being a rookie quarterback is not easy. Being

(15:10):
a quarterback is not easy. So he knows he's got
a lot of things to work on. But he's made
progress every day.

Speaker 1 (15:18):
And I'm glad.

Speaker 7 (15:19):
I'm glad we drafted.

Speaker 5 (15:20):
I'm glad he's our guy.

Speaker 1 (15:24):
Yeah, I have Doue was less, you know.

Speaker 5 (15:25):
I you know, I usually have the quarterback out there
and decide what we're gonna do. He's like, wait a minute,
so we're gonna take the ball. But what if they
differ which way you want me to kick, So there
was there was just things. He's out there warming up
and he's coming over to me. I'm like what and
he's got too quiet. I'm like, don't worry about that.

Speaker 1 (15:42):
Just let's go.

Speaker 5 (15:42):
But I wanted him to think about, you know, you
know what it'll be like one day, two more.

Speaker 1 (15:53):
Yeah, I don't. I have no idea yet.

Speaker 5 (15:55):
I just as Pat put us on here. TJ.

Speaker 1 (15:58):
Moore has an injury.

Speaker 5 (16:00):
Though there's Handlin. That's Handlin's descriptiveness.

Speaker 1 (16:02):
For you, leg I could we don't.

Speaker 5 (16:07):
I don't think we know yet or they found out
that they just tell me now wasn't good, you know,
feel for that young man?

Speaker 1 (16:18):
Anything else?

Speaker 7 (16:20):
All right, Okay, thanks everybody.

Speaker 1 (16:22):
That's Edd, coach of the Giants, Brian David.

Speaker 2 (16:24):
The coach's press conference was brought to you by Hackensack
Mrity in health, keep getting better and Tiki.

Speaker 1 (16:29):
The next thing I was about to.

Speaker 2 (16:30):
Ask you before he went did that press commisence about
Jackson Dart's twenty three yards scramble which ended in a
fumble because he, in the third preseason game, decided to
try to get a couple extra yards and run over
some defenders, landed he got stripped first of all, then
he landed flush on his right shoulder.

Speaker 1 (16:46):
I think get brought in for concussion protocol.

Speaker 2 (16:47):
Which he thankfully passed. But as Brian David would say,
or did say, got a slide.

Speaker 3 (16:53):
Yeah, be smart in those situations. And you know, Jackson
Dart is a very good athlete, and I think it
running can be a part of his game as long
as he's proven get down, don't need to take hits.
Brian Dables's other NFL developed quarterback is a running back

(17:14):
who also is a very good quarterback. You can argue
a tight end at his size right, Josh Allen runs
like a running back, and there's a difference between being
free and open in the open field and making plays
with your legs like most quarterbacks in the NFL, versus
a guy like Lamar Jackson or Josh Allen who know

(17:38):
how to set up a defender to get them off
balance and then run through that contact.

Speaker 1 (17:44):
So the challenge with that, you know, with a guy
like Jackson Dart.

Speaker 3 (17:47):
Is that he thinks he can set up that defender
and make a miss, when in reality, the defender is
more setting him up to take a shot at him.
And so You just got to be smart. You got
to know what your limitations are. You got to know
what your skins sets are, what your strengths are. And
that is not one running Fine, be a great athlete,
Jackson Dart, But you're not a tackle breaker.

Speaker 2 (18:09):
You know, Josh Allen, You're not Lamar Jackson. You're not
even jail It hurts right, you're not.

Speaker 3 (18:12):
You're not a tackle breaker, right right, And you're not
someone who's gonna avoid contact and more importantly, know how
to land.

Speaker 1 (18:19):
Right part of the heart.

Speaker 3 (18:20):
One of the hardest part of being a running back
is knowing how to land, like prevent preventing injury, preventing turnover.

Speaker 2 (18:26):
That's something emm it Smid did so well in Yeah,
that's how he one hundred. That's why he played so long.

Speaker 1 (18:30):
He knew that he never took flush contact anyone, never.

Speaker 3 (18:33):
Took hard hits, and he knew how to get down,
get underneath the hit, and get down before the contact,
be ready for the next play. And Jackson Dart unfortunately
wasn't ready for the next play. So it's a learning
experience for him.

Speaker 2 (18:45):
Yeah, and look, rather have that happened here and now
and hopefully the next time whenever that happens to be,
he will make a more prudent decision.

Speaker 1 (18:53):
All right, quick time out.

Speaker 2 (18:54):
We're gonna hear from the quarterbacks, and Paul Dettino is
scouring the locker room for other interviews as well. Say
that a quick break. We'll come back in a bit.
Giants defeat the Patriots forty two to ten. We'll be
right back.

Speaker 4 (19:04):
You're listening to Giants Extra Point on the Wfan Giants
radio network.

Speaker 11 (19:10):
This is Tommy DeVito, and you're listening to the radio
home of Big Blue the Fan, w FAN and w
Fan FM, New York.

Speaker 1 (19:18):
Let's go down to the podium.

Speaker 2 (19:19):
Jackson Darts addressing the media after the Giants forty two
to ten win.

Speaker 8 (19:22):
And competitiveness with people safe like on that son of
potential slide time slide.

Speaker 13 (19:28):
Yeah, I mean, first of all, just in the fumbled,
never been taken out of the game for getting there,
knocked out of me, So that was the first. But
I mean, I quite honestly felt like I could split
them when I, you know, saw the open field. So honestly,
like in that situation, I didn't feel like I was

(19:50):
in too much of a threat to get a big
hit on me.

Speaker 7 (19:54):
But you know, I think that quite honestly.

Speaker 13 (19:56):
Like just situations based, like if you're gonna take a
big hit, then yeah, you slide. But I didn't feel
like I was in a situation where I was going
to take a really big hit, So I felt like
I could, you know, kind of extend the play and
maybe make something out of it.

Speaker 7 (20:07):
Just should have held onto the ball.

Speaker 1 (20:09):
Bob did to that they took you out of the game.

Speaker 7 (20:11):
You want to finish the drive? Yeah, that I don't know.
I mean I told him.

Speaker 13 (20:16):
I was like, I mean, you would feel uncomfortable if
you got the air knocked out of you too, Like
I'm I'm fine.

Speaker 7 (20:21):
I just trying to get my breath. So that was
all there was.

Speaker 13 (20:25):
Obviously they have like they're a little different in college,
I guess.

Speaker 10 (20:28):
But yeah, from behind right, the hit was from behind right.

Speaker 7 (20:34):
Well, there's two guys.

Speaker 13 (20:36):
It was the dB in front of me, and I
think it was the linebacker who kind of came from
the side.

Speaker 7 (20:40):
The moment you were going.

Speaker 5 (20:41):
Into the medical time when kind of has gone viral
of you kind of making this motion where you just like,
hurry up, you want to.

Speaker 13 (20:46):
Get back out there. Yeah, I mean, like I said,
I didn't understand why I got took off the field,
So I was just, you know, I wanted to get
back out there and finish the drive. So I just
you know, it was kind of just like walking over,
like let's let's go on. I want to get back
out there. So, you know, shout out to Jamis for
you know, throwing a touchdown and finishing that that last
strive that I was in.

Speaker 6 (21:07):
You make jokes with you talking about kind of stealing
one of the way happened in practice a few weeks ago.

Speaker 13 (21:14):
No, I mean, we're just we're a team. So uh,
anytime you put points on the board, and thought it
was good for Jalen to.

Speaker 7 (21:19):
Get that as well.

Speaker 13 (21:20):
So uh, I was just happy to put put points
up in that situation.

Speaker 6 (21:25):
You would you have liked would you like to slide
in that situation, geture or you were just like, hey, I'm.

Speaker 7 (21:30):
Gonna try to get a sue you or to night.

Speaker 14 (21:32):
Now.

Speaker 7 (21:32):
Yeah, I think it's just like situation based.

Speaker 13 (21:34):
Like I said, I felt like I could have made
a bigger play on it, and I thought I could
split them and I feel like, if you know, I
just break a tackle, then I'm gone.

Speaker 7 (21:43):
So but yeah.

Speaker 13 (21:45):
I mean there's situations where you know things are super congesting,
you're gonna take a big shot, then obviously you want
to get down.

Speaker 7 (21:50):
But I felt like it was the open field and
I could have made a play.

Speaker 4 (21:53):
What does it say about this quarterback room that you're
up to feel for one play and Jamis can float
it into the amazone a touchdown.

Speaker 7 (22:00):
Yeah, we're all really good players.

Speaker 13 (22:02):
I think that everybody's kind of seen that throughout practices
throughout camp, Like we all operate at high levels and
guys would just continue to get better each and every day.
It's a really fun room to be a part of
because it's super competitive that way, and we have an
amazing relationship between all of us. But it's it's definitely
fun and we're all each other's biggest fans when we're
rather on the field.

Speaker 7 (22:22):
That also mean you have a smaller margin of era
when you do get an opportunity to play.

Speaker 13 (22:27):
M I mean, you gotta go out there and compete
and you got to, you know, make your plays when
when you're called and you out there on the field,
and we expect that everybody to make those plays.

Speaker 7 (22:35):
So I don't think we really look at it.

Speaker 10 (22:38):
That way, Jackson, You're you're accustomed to starting obviously, Yeah,
you know, did this feel.

Speaker 1 (22:43):
Normal to you to start a game?

Speaker 7 (22:44):
Yeah? Absolutely.

Speaker 13 (22:46):
You know I've never been you know, in my career, uh,
you know, coming off the bench, So just felt normal
to go out there and to play right off the bat.

Speaker 8 (22:54):
And the off seasons over now, training camps, over pre
seasons over.

Speaker 1 (23:00):
You needed to play.

Speaker 8 (23:01):
After everything you've done this off season, do you feel
you're ready?

Speaker 13 (23:03):
I feel like whenever my numbers called it, I'm gonna
go out there and I'm gonna play my game. I'm
gonna ball, And that's just my mindset anytime I touched
the field. Obviously, you know, Russ is the starter, and
he's gonna do amazing. He's had such a great camp
and has played an elite level. So you know, my
job is just be the best teammate and you know,
be ready whenever it is.

Speaker 7 (23:24):
But you know, I'm excited for it for Russ and
what he's gonna do this year that.

Speaker 9 (23:29):
You know, other than it's just starting.

Speaker 14 (23:31):
He liked to add a little other things to the routine,
including going out there for a coin toss, and.

Speaker 7 (23:35):
He mentioned how that was so different for your routine.

Speaker 9 (23:38):
What was that like, adding to the preparation.

Speaker 7 (23:40):
Of the game and kind of figuring out how is
this done?

Speaker 11 (23:43):
You know, the new elements of an NFL game.

Speaker 13 (23:45):
Yeah, I haven't been out for a coin toss since
high school because, you know, ole miss we always wanted
the ball first, so I had to get.

Speaker 7 (23:53):
My arm armed up and.

Speaker 13 (23:54):
Get ready to go, so I have other guys go
and do it for me.

Speaker 7 (23:58):
So when he was like, go do it, I was
like should I? I can't even remember what to do.
But yeah, it was a good experience, especially for men Abdul.

Speaker 1 (24:07):
After three games, what do you think you've learned the
most so far?

Speaker 11 (24:09):
Just from this experience and from growing a sup quarterbacks?

Speaker 13 (24:12):
So far, I think I've learned a lot about like
preparation going into games, especially at this level.

Speaker 7 (24:22):
I've just felt more and more comfortable each.

Speaker 13 (24:24):
Week, and I think that, you know, attributes to just
the time that I've put into, you know, trying to
learn the system to the best of my abilities. I've
also learned that every guy out there on the field
is an elite player at what they do, so you know,
you can't you can't let one mistake lead to another one,

(24:45):
and little things in your game will get exposed. So
I think that, you know, through my time in camp,
I've been able to, you know, grow and learn from
a lot of those things, and then when I come
out on the field and able to you know, correlate
that to the game of just things that I've learned.

Speaker 7 (25:00):
So, you know, I think the biggest thing is just
preparation and your routine.

Speaker 8 (25:04):
Jackson, is there a specific moment, whether it was training camp,
gaming as the bills, anything like that. I know you're
a very confident player, but where something happened when you're like,
this is the NFL.

Speaker 7 (25:14):
I got that I.

Speaker 8 (25:15):
Could do this. I got it, like it confirmed, it
reaffirmed in your mind, like you you.

Speaker 2 (25:19):
Can do this.

Speaker 13 (25:21):
I think I've just always had that thought in my head.
I've said this, like when I step on the field,
I expect to play at a high level and to
be honest, like, you know, I have the confidence. I
feel like I'm gonna be the best player on the
field there every time I touch on it. So I
think I just you know, I I kind of just
expect to play good, like that's just the standard that

(25:43):
I have for myself. So when you don't play to
that standard. It's it's really frustrating. And then you know
you just try to, you know, be consistent and play
to your level.

Speaker 15 (25:52):
You talked about how I talked about how you expect
Russell to go out there and be great, and also
that you haven't.

Speaker 6 (25:58):
You've been starter your entire life, so this could be
it for you for a while. How tough will that
be to sit on the bench and have to watch
somebody else for the first time.

Speaker 13 (26:07):
Yeah, I'm just I'm just shifting my perspective to be
the best teammate that I can be. Russ has completely
earned that role for him, and he's played amazing, He's
played elite, So uh, you know, for me, I'm just
I just want to be the best teammate and I
just want I want this team to win. So you know,
whatever my role is for that to happen, I'm gonna

(26:27):
do that to the best of my ability.

Speaker 1 (26:32):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (26:35):
What was it like watching him play there?

Speaker 7 (26:37):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (26:38):
I was.

Speaker 7 (26:38):
I was so excited.

Speaker 13 (26:40):
You know, in the quarterback room, we we can make
like who we think is gonna be the player of
the game, And I said, you know, I felt like
it was gonna be Tommy CAF said that we can't
pick a guy in the room, but I knew that
he was gonna go out there and ball, and you know,
just the things that I've seen and how much I've
grown from just you know, learning from him. Not only
is he a great teamate, but he you know, one

(27:00):
of my best friends on the team too. So I
was really happy to see him play at the level
that he did, and it really just wasn't any surprise.

Speaker 7 (27:06):
For any of us. Thank you, guys.

Speaker 2 (27:09):
Player press conferences are brought to you by MetLife, the
official insurance company that he or giants. You should have
Tommy de Vido in a moment, but I'll let the
running back in the room talk about the running aspect
of Jackson Dart's Best Stoppers thread there.

Speaker 3 (27:20):
Yeah, you know he's thinking, he's saying that he could
have set up he was trying to split those guys
and he slowed down to try to split two defenders.
In the NFL and college, you might be able to
get away with that. High school you can definitely get
away with it because you're just a better athlete. But
in the end, if the NFL, you have to speed
up to split two defenders and so maybe he can

(27:42):
do that in the future, but he's got to learn
that it's a different process.

Speaker 1 (27:46):
Than what he used to do when he was in
high school, in college.

Speaker 2 (27:48):
Tommy de Vido, who played a great game, he's down
at the podium, was listening.

Speaker 11 (27:51):
You know, the first preseason was two drives. Just about
last one was one drive. So you know, to be
able to have not a set amount of time, you know,
it felt good to be able to go out there
and play football game.

Speaker 9 (28:03):
Are you thinking as you go out there, as you
go through the game at all, like this could be
the last time you're playing in front of these people?
Most teams don't keep four quarterbacks or does not not
even get.

Speaker 7 (28:13):
Enter your mind.

Speaker 11 (28:14):
I think about that in the sense of every time
I go out on the field, you never know which
it's gonna be your last, you know, just having that
roller coaster like I've had in the past with injuries,
playing performance, whatever it is. So anytime I go out there,
I try to put my all out because you never
know what it is gonna be your last.

Speaker 1 (28:29):
Indeed, what was.

Speaker 12 (28:31):
Your reaction with Jackson had to come out of the
game with Jackson didn't slide and had.

Speaker 6 (28:36):
To come out of the game.

Speaker 11 (28:37):
It's working, work in progress, and trying to help him
out a little bit. He seems like the type that's
going to learn from personal experience, so hopefully he will
take that insight from today and get better from there.
But I knew he was okay.

Speaker 6 (28:51):
Did you say anything to him?

Speaker 1 (28:53):
Oh?

Speaker 11 (28:53):
And he came back.

Speaker 1 (28:54):
Yeah.

Speaker 11 (28:54):
I mean I let him know. I treat him like
it's like my little brother, you know, even though like
we're not that far age, like it's not like that,
but you know, just trying to help him go over
the bumps and just talk to me really slide, like, dude,
you don't need to be taking these necessary hit like
this and certain times in the game situations, yes, I
get it be a ball player, but in times like that,

(29:16):
just go down.

Speaker 14 (29:17):
Tommy.

Speaker 6 (29:18):
You've been through a lot of lessons here and really
a short amount of time when that was a long
amount of time three years, And you know what did
you take from this experience in these last couple of
months and going into this weekend.

Speaker 3 (29:30):
You've been here before and you've been.

Speaker 6 (29:32):
Uncertain about what the future might hold. But what's different
now than maybe what's been in the past for you yere.

Speaker 11 (29:39):
Yeah, kind of my similar mindset of you know, be
ready when your number is called. You know, obviously how
a rookie year played out. Never kind of knew how
that was gonna happen. It kind of happened how it did.
Last year, similar kind of thing get thrown in there,
so you gotta be ready to play. And then this
year it's kind of it's a little different cause I'm
going on year three of the offense. You know, like
I know it like the back of my hand. I

(30:00):
can do everything, get to any answer that I've been
taught from the coaches in the past two years, like
with ease. So it's really about just focusing on the defense,
not really worrying about the offense as much. So I
think for me it's just being able to play faster.
I feel like I was seeing it well tonight. Guys
were playing great. Oh, lined did awesome. Really there was
nobody near me really at all, so made everything easy.

(30:22):
But just going out and executing and do what I do.

Speaker 8 (30:24):
You might be in a unique position here in the
coming days where you can have the opportunity to decide
your future a little bit in terms of maybe coming
back here as quarterback born the practice squad or going
to another team where you could be a quarterback three
quarterback too and try to fight your way up.

Speaker 7 (30:39):
What is important to you? Have you thought about that
at all?

Speaker 11 (30:42):
No, not too much. I mean all my focus. Obviously
there's a lot of things like that weighing down as
the time gets closer. But for me, it was really
focusing on this game. Obviously said it last year, Like
any time you go out on the field, no matter
where you are, especially being undrafted, you're performing for all
thirty one other organizations as well, So it's important to
do that, but as well as be where your feet
are right now. This is where I am. So that's

(31:04):
what I'm gonna continue to do each day in day out,
and then I'll let my agent and everything else handle itself.
If that time were to.

Speaker 5 (31:10):
Come, obviously the Talented Quarterback room, if that happened to
be your last game here with the Giants, what does
that mean for you to do what you did?

Speaker 11 (31:19):
You know tonight, it means a lot, Like you said,
just the ovation, you know, like there's stuff from Jersey,
you know, like if I wasn't, if I was in
the stands, I'd be cheering for anybody who's the hometown
kid too, so it was appreciated, you know, just to
go out and EXEQ. Obviously still things clean up, but
like I said, it felt good getting some getting some
time with two whole quarters to be able to go

(31:41):
out and play and just feel the energy, excitement and
love for the game again.

Speaker 9 (31:48):
Good.

Speaker 11 (31:49):
All right, appreciate you guys.

Speaker 2 (31:52):
That's Tommy DeVito with the podium. We're gonna take a
quick time out. We'll come back talk about it and
a whole lot more. Tommy the sage advice that savvy
third year quarterback to little brother Jackson Darty to the
best line. I feel like he's someone that might learn
from experience.

Speaker 1 (32:08):
Personal experience.

Speaker 2 (32:10):
Great line, oh my gosh, which basically tell you that
you can tell him something a million times until he
realizes for himself, he ain't gotta.

Speaker 1 (32:17):
Listen to you. He's hard headed. That's that's what that
That's what that says to me as two.

Speaker 2 (32:21):
Parents having a conversation. Right now, I think I know
exactly what talking about. All right, quick timee out, we'll
be back. Tried to get defeat the Patriots forty two
to ten.

Speaker 4 (32:30):
You are listening to Giants Extra Point on the WFAN
Giants Radio Network.

Speaker 1 (32:35):
This is Tyron Tracy Jr.

Speaker 16 (32:37):
And you're listening to Giants Football on the Fan w
f AN and w f A n FM, New York.

Speaker 1 (32:46):
Notting the Giants organization around the leary. One of their.

Speaker 15 (32:50):
Questions, inception writer is intercepted, tz amos got it down
the right side numbers to the hands, touchdown pick sex
for team Jame Moore.

Speaker 1 (33:05):
And he is swallowing up by it. It looks like
half the team in the end zone too, are right?

Speaker 2 (33:12):
That was to nice play the game, brought to you
locally by four and one performance and capability at every turn.

Speaker 1 (33:18):
Get behind the wheel of a new Ford.

Speaker 2 (33:20):
Truck or SUV board official truck and suv of the
New York Giants, John Schmelk, Tiki Barber back with you
here on Giants Extra Point.

Speaker 1 (33:29):
Giants to beat the Patriots forty two to ten and Tiki. Unfortunately, TJ.

Speaker 2 (33:33):
Moore was one of those Giants defensive backs they that
were trying to fight for a roster spot. Had the
great pick six return for a touchdown. Then, unfortunately, later
in the game, he suffered what looked like a pretty
serious leg injury.

Speaker 1 (33:46):
He got brought out on the cart.

Speaker 2 (33:48):
He got helped onto the cart by the three quarterbacks
that were no longer in the game, Russell Wilson, Jackson
Dark jam As Winston had an air cast on and
usually that indicates that.

Speaker 1 (33:57):
It's a it's a pretty serious thing.

Speaker 3 (33:58):
Yeah, it's some kind of fracture or location or something
of that nature. Pauleddtino totals that he got into an
ambulances too, and so you know that this is a
lot more serious than something that's just going to be
looked at for a day and then decided over the
next couple of days. Dave's addressed it as well in
the post game in his postgame press conference where he
said he just feels bad for him, and I tells

(34:18):
you all you really need to know. But with that notwithstanding,
he had a pretty good game tonight. He made the
plays that he had to make when they were presented
to him, and it just sucks. It's part of the
game's part of the NFL. Guys get hurt, Guys get
done for the season, and you know, for a young
rookie to be lost that early, it kind of I mean,
you feel for him.

Speaker 2 (34:38):
Art Green, He's not a rookie now've been in the
league a couple of years. He had a really nice game,
great stop on a third and five, I think in
about four yards down the field, he stopped him just
short of the first down marker with a great tackle.
He's the guy that I think, along with Nick Jones,
you also played today, we're kind of fighting for that
last quarterback spot.

Speaker 1 (34:56):
I think ar Green did pretty well.

Speaker 3 (34:57):
Yeah, I mean it's a spot where you need depth
because you never know when well. First of all, they
help on special teams. Those are the better athletes on
your team, and so they become special teamers. But when
called into duty, I think they're they're valuable because the
guys that are veteran enough and have enough wherewithal can
step in and you don't miss a beat because of

(35:18):
some of his experience playing in this defense.

Speaker 1 (35:21):
He's also had a pretty good training camp. YEP.

Speaker 3 (35:24):
Early on in the in camp I was here, saw
him one handed interception. So he's he's had you know,
some playing time last year obviously because of all their injuries,
and and this year he's looked good. So you give
him some you give him, you know, maybe a chance
to make this team. But It's a decision that's going
to be hard for Dabs and for Joe Shane because
of all of the skill position players that this team

(35:45):
has on the offensive side of the ball, the last
thing you want to do is short the other side
the defense, and so tough decision. I wouldn't want to
be the GM of this team because they have so
many good players to decide from, and we will hit.

Speaker 1 (35:59):
That in the final SEGM.

Speaker 2 (36:00):
And for sure, very seldomly of the Giants scored forty
two points in recent memory the game against the coach
last year when they put up a forty spot, so
I want to make sure the fans here as many
of those touchdowns as possible. In the first quarter, this
was that Jamis Winston touchdown passed to Jalen Hyatt from
twenty seven yards out when Winston came into the game
after dark out pulled off the field to get check

(36:20):
for concussion protocol.

Speaker 1 (36:21):
Here's the throw.

Speaker 15 (36:22):
Here's Winston fakes a handoff, gonna throw a fade back
right corner for Hyatt, runs under it, touchdown Jalen Hyatt.
Winston comes in for one play and he connects for
a touchdown to Jalen Hyde. For twenty seven yards out.

Speaker 2 (36:39):
And Paul Tatino had a chance to talk to Jalen
Hyatt downstairs in a one on one interview. Hyatt had
that touchdown catch, but he also had a couple of
plays where head coach Brian da Will mention he thought
but had a chance to get caught when he was
referencing Jackson dart six of twelve throwing today.

Speaker 1 (36:57):
So let's listen in to Paulatino with Jayleen.

Speaker 12 (37:00):
Jayden, I guess we should start with the touchdown catch. Uh,
certainly that's the kind of play that the people want
to be expecting from you. How to feel good?

Speaker 16 (37:09):
Yeah, it felt good, damius to a beautiful ball. Uh,
you know, kept the red line. You know, kind of
disappointed in my performance.

Speaker 1 (37:16):
I felt like I.

Speaker 16 (37:17):
Could have made more plays out there.

Speaker 1 (37:18):
So uh, I just got to go back and look at.

Speaker 16 (37:20):
Films, see what I need to correct and uh, you know,
get back at it.

Speaker 12 (37:23):
If you did have the three catches on six targets
and and I guess the DBS had some position and
did try to get their hands on a couple. But
you say you feel disappointed, what did what did you
feel you missed out there?

Speaker 1 (37:34):
And I wasn't. It wasn't the db'st at all.

Speaker 16 (37:37):
I think the first play that dart through.

Speaker 1 (37:42):
Through a beautiful path. Really, both of them its beautiful.

Speaker 16 (37:44):
I gotta come back. I gotta come down with those. So,
like I said, just got to correct some things, you know, uha,
the attack the ball, things that I know I can do,
and uh, I gotta you know, continue to work on that.

Speaker 12 (37:55):
You were able to play in two of the three
preseason games. How well do you feel you've actually managed
just during this past.

Speaker 16 (38:01):
Yeah, you know, I felt, you know, I was banged
up a little bit during training camp, but uh, you know,
I felt like.

Speaker 1 (38:06):
I made, you know, some good plays.

Speaker 5 (38:08):
Uh.

Speaker 16 (38:09):
You know, wish I was out there for all the
preseason games, but uh you know, I went, you know,
deal with some injuries. But it was fun to be
out there, you know, fun to be out there with
the guys, especially you know, after the touchdown, I'm saying,
you know, how many of them, how many players have
supported me throughout this journey, and uh, you know, I'm
just just glad and blessed to be honest, team.

Speaker 12 (38:26):
This offense has been very explosive through this preseason.

Speaker 1 (38:29):
What's the difference.

Speaker 7 (38:31):
Uh, they believe in us.

Speaker 16 (38:33):
You know, you know in that quarterback room is talented
and uh you know their their ball placement on where
they you know, through their passes is uh is beautiful,
and uh, you know we got to make plays for them.
And it starts with today. I felt like I didn't
make enough place for Dart and you know, kind of
disappointed about that.

Speaker 14 (38:51):
I've heard you say before that one of the things
you do is handle adversity.

Speaker 7 (38:54):
Well, is that an example of it.

Speaker 14 (38:56):
You're not happy with the first two when you come
back and you make the touchdown on the I'm the
third one.

Speaker 16 (39:01):
Yeah, for sure, you university is gonna come with it.
You know, I had diversity when I was at Tennessee.

Speaker 1 (39:05):
And I feel like today it was a good example
of that.

Speaker 16 (39:08):
You know, started off a little slow for myself and uh,
you know ended it with a touchdown. But like I said,
I left too many players out there that I know
that if I had it back that I'll definitely come,
you know, come down with.

Speaker 1 (39:19):
And I got to play it better for Dart.

Speaker 16 (39:21):
You know, I was his first time starting, first time
out there, and it was just very disappointed.

Speaker 1 (39:25):
You know what I did today?

Speaker 14 (39:26):
You held up three or four fingers to the crowd
after a touchdown.

Speaker 1 (39:30):
What was that?

Speaker 16 (39:31):
Yeah, it was for you know, it was for uh,
you know one of my brothers, Gage k Zurki, who
he played with.

Speaker 1 (39:38):
Me, uh and he lost his life.

Speaker 16 (39:41):
So you know it's really a tribute to him.

Speaker 1 (39:43):
Sorry to hear. Thank you, Jim, I appreciate you.

Speaker 2 (39:46):
That's jale and Hiatt with Paul Theatino and then Ryan
Dunleevey jumped in there at the end as well. That
was a very self aware, mature interview that jal and
Hyatt just gave it. Frankly, Tiky, I think his diagnosis
of what you need to do better was was pretty
much right on.

Speaker 15 (40:03):
Well.

Speaker 3 (40:03):
I mean, first of all, he I give him credit
for taking responsibility for some of the bad plays. And
I know Paul was trying to make an excuse for him,
but it wasn't the DBS making good plays out there,
it was him missing plays. And he said that, and
he said it multiple times. I mean, disappointed came out
of his mouth three times maybe four times in that

(40:23):
in that in that interview, and when you think about
Jalen High, you think about his days in Tennessee, in
that massive game, almost three hundred yards he had against Alabama.
It was ridiculous, but he was but he was wide open, right,
he was running free in open grass and nobody around him.
In the NFL, if you cannot make contested catches, you

(40:44):
cannot play in this league. And I think that's what
he was taxed with early in this game from those
passes from Jackson Dart. Defensive backs are going to be physical,
the referees are not going to call pass interference every
single time a dB, you know, rubs his show against yours.
So you have to be able to play through contact
and make contested catches, and he just didn't do that.

(41:06):
In fact, the touchdown that he caught from Jameis Winston,
which was a beautiful throw, and he talked about the
redline that was made famous by Aaron Rodgers last year,
he stayed exactly where he needed to be and he
ran away from the defenders who did not make contact
him on him like the other two passes, and obviously
he made the touchdown and paid tribute to his friend

(41:26):
who lost his life tragically. And so I feel like
I feel like that interview was Jalen Hyatt being aware
of his enormous missed opportunity to make the right impression
on this staff.

Speaker 1 (41:39):
And if you have any.

Speaker 3 (41:40):
Doubts about how the team or the head coach feels
about him, all you have to do is listen to Daves'
first answer about Jackson's darts completion percentage. All ten of
those passes should have been caught, right.

Speaker 2 (41:53):
So yeah, and look, I think we've made a big
deal about it because frankly, whenever a wide receiver puts
on fifteen to seventeen eighteen pounds in an offseason, that's
a lot of like to keep your speed and get
that much weight on for a guy that's as slender
as high as it's.

Speaker 1 (42:07):
A big deal. It's impressive.

Speaker 2 (42:08):
And he did that purposefully, I think, understanding that for
him to become the type of wide receiver he wants
to become, he needs to improve his play strength, so
in theory he can handle contact from cornerbacks more and
in theory going from one seventy five to one to
ninety three should help that. But we did see the

(42:29):
first play. I thought he actually did a really nice
job creating some space. He did with some hand fighting,
but then a little bit of contact he lost his balance,
ballhad off his near shoulder. On the next play, the
cornerback came down hit him in the arms a little bit.
He did not have the strength and his upper body
to fight through that contact get his arms up and
get to the ball before it hit his far shoulder.

Speaker 3 (42:50):
Yeah, I think some one of the things you tend
to notice with Jalen Hyatt is that he'll make contact,
he'll initiate it and just get away with that push off,
but then he'll fade away, right, So instead of making
that contact and getting into the ball, attacking the ball,
attacking the ball, he makes that contact and then he'll
fade away so that he gets more separation from the defense,

(43:14):
but from the defender, but you're also taking yourself out
of line where the ball was. And so it's it's
it's practice, it's repetition. It's kind of what Dave said
about Bo Collins last week. It's time on task. And
Jalen Hi has just he's been hurt and unavailable for
too much of his career to have enough experience to
do these things consistently well.

Speaker 1 (43:32):
And it might cost him his roster spot.

Speaker 3 (43:35):
And be perfectly honest with you, Now, there's a lot
of there's a lot that goes into that decision. He
was a third round pick and they moved up in
the third round to pick him.

Speaker 1 (43:43):
His speed is tantalizing.

Speaker 3 (43:45):
He is he is the quintessential take the top off
a defense type of player. And we've seen some of
those big plays in the in the over the years
that he's played in Daniel Jones with that massive touchdown
that he had and week whatever that was seven or
eight a couple of years ago, and so we know
what he can do, but he doesn't do it consistently enough.
And this team is at the point where they need

(44:05):
to and want to have players that can win, and
you get and to be a winning player, you got
to make plays consistently.

Speaker 2 (44:11):
And a veteran that's competing for some of those wide
receiver spots like little Jordan Humphrey, who has been extremely reliable,
has that big body type, catches everything always in the
right place at the right time. I was talking to
Mike Grow about him a couple of days ago, when
the assistant coaches Giants wide receiver coach.

Speaker 1 (44:27):
Might Grow He said, teammate, oh, was he your quarterback there?

Speaker 2 (44:31):
I didn't realize that I was not aware of that,
and he basically said, look, he is, you know, smart, tough, dependable,
and that's the Brian Dable model.

Speaker 1 (44:38):
Right.

Speaker 2 (44:39):
He's always where he's supposed to be. He catches the ball.
He's created a nice little connection with these quarterbacks on
those back shoulder throws on the siline that they like
to throw, and he stands out because he's a different
type of body type than any other wide receiver except
for Zak Pasco is also competing for those spots that
they really have on the roster.

Speaker 3 (44:57):
Yeah, it's interesting because those him and two of the
tight ends Chris Manherds and Greg Dulcicz are all Denver
guys and guys who Sean Payton coveted and obviously Giant
fans will remember Sean Payton well. I remember having that
conversation last season calling one of the Denver Broncos games,
and Sean could not talk effusively enough about little Jordan Hunt.

(45:19):
Really just there just wasn't space, you know, So there
wasn't there wasn't a roster spot for him right or
playing time for him. But that that size and that
execution and that ability to get to the ball and
fight through contact and still make strong catches was what
they loved about him, and I think we've seen a
little bit of that so.

Speaker 1 (45:39):
Far this preseason from him.

Speaker 2 (45:40):

One more break, take a time out. Well, here a
bunch of the other touchdowns we're gonna hear from Greg Dolci.
You scored a couple of those touchdowns, and we'll talk
about some of those final roster spots that Tiki's reference
a few more times as he wrapped things up here

(46:01):
on Giants Extra.

Speaker 4 (46:02):
You're listening to Giants Extra point on the Wfan Giants
Radio Network.

Speaker 15 (46:12):
Third and six and the seven of the Patriotscattaboy goes
in motion, back and forth, Dart a long count, takes
the snap, stands in the pocket, fires over in the middle,
caught touchdown. It's Dulcic, Dart hooking up with Dulcic in
consecutive games, and the Giants strike first three minutes and
one second.

Speaker 1 (46:31):
Ind of the game. To Vido takes the snap.

Speaker 15 (46:33):
He's gonna throw to the right side fires at the
goal line, juggle brought.

Speaker 1 (46:38):
In, caught touchdown. Thomas Fordoni the tight end.

Speaker 15 (46:43):
I want to see if they can punch it in
here on second to goal from the one, Tovito wanders center, turns,
fakes to Miller, boots to the right, got his man,
caught touchdown Dulcich the second touchdown reception.

Speaker 1 (46:57):
Of the game.

Speaker 2 (47:01):
It was a big day for Giants tight ends in
this game. That final Dulca touchdown capping a nine play,
eighty nine yard drive for the score, which was tonight's
score and drive of the game. Brought to you by Citizens,
the official bank of the New York Giants. Citizens is
made ready for Giants fans are Roal Poltatino track down.

Speaker 1 (47:21):
Great dulsag Is flowing locks in the locker room and
talk to them after the game.

Speaker 12 (47:26):
We've been talking about the competition in this tight end
room now for the past month. Obviously, you make some
plays again, Ta I got a touchdown. What is it
like battling with all this high level talent in that room.

Speaker 14 (47:38):
Yeah, we have a lot of talent in the room,
and there's a lot of great guys in the room.
Great coach, it's a lot of fun. We have a
fun time. I think we compliment each other's games very well.
We all work well for this offense. It's a good time. Yeah,
it's fun being a giant tight end.

Speaker 12 (47:52):
How difficult is it to know that there's also a
numbers game involved and over the next week, you know,
the numbers are going to scunch somebody.

Speaker 14 (48:00):
Yeah, that's the nature of this league. But you know,
go out there, try and play as best you can.
You know, Temmy had a great game, so that was
awesome to see. I think, Yeah, we've had a great
camp in the room. You know, a lot to improve
on obviously, but you know, I think it was a
good foundation and yeah, excited to see you know how
things go.

Speaker 12 (48:18):
You've been in this league for a few years. Have
you ever seen a tight endroom that has so much
depth because it looks like all of you guys can play.

Speaker 14 (48:24):
Yeah, it's a special room for sure. Yeah, it's a
special guys in there, and it's a lot of fun.

Speaker 12 (48:28):
So what do you think about is working with this
offense and these quarterbacks in particular, because it seems effortless
and I know it's not that easy to score points
in this league.

Speaker 14 (48:37):
Yeah, these quarterbacks are also talented, and they've all got
such great poise. I said last week, they're all great leaders.
And the grasp that they have of this offense, and
you know how to bring all of us along.

Speaker 7 (48:49):
It's it's awesome.

Speaker 12 (48:50):
Appreciate your time.

Speaker 2 (48:52):
Jehis football is brought to you locally by four and
one performance and capability at every turn. Get behind the
wheel the new Ford truck or SUV Ford Official Truck
and SUV.

Speaker 1 (49:00):
The New York Giants and TIKI.

Speaker 2 (49:02):
That brings us to what is gonna be a very
difficult roster decision for the New York Football Giants here.
And I'll be honest. Throughout camp, I was under the
belief that I thought the Giants would keep four tight ends,
and I think especially given really hard to do that.
Though it is really hard to do that, and especially
and I think both of us right now think that
Turbo Miller's on the team, it's gonna be hard to

(49:23):
keep four running backs and four tight ends. Eventually you're
gonna run to the numbers game. You can't keep four
at each spot. So I don't know what they're gonna
do here. I know Brian Dable loves the three tight
ends that did not play in this game. Daniel Bellinger,
Chris Manhertz, and of course THEO Johnson. I don't know
if Thomas Faedoni and or dol Si You're gonna get
onto the practice squad. Now there's only about thirty or

(49:45):
thirty five claims off waivers each year, so I think
people get a little more afraid of that than maybe
they should.

Speaker 1 (49:51):
But I think both those guys can play in this league, man,
I really do.

Speaker 14 (49:54):
No.

Speaker 3 (49:55):
I think you're right they can. They definitely can. But
you need a blocking tight end. And so Chris manher
you know, we haven't seen him at all in this preseason.
It's valuable to this Giants team. And Daniel Bellinger, even
though the Giants don't regularly use a fullback, he plays
fullback for this team and can do multiple things, and
he has good hands. THEO Johnson had drafted last season.

(50:15):
So those guys are definitely making this team. And so
it almost leaves no room for these guys who have
had some pretty good preseasons.

Speaker 1 (50:22):
And now the question you would ask, if.

Speaker 3 (50:24):
You were being objective, is let's say that that's THEO
Johnson running that seam route. The Adulty catch for a touchdown,
does he make the same play man just probably yes, right.
And so while we're lauding the success of some of
these players, a lot of this is because of the
increased and improved quarterback play that we see that we're

(50:47):
seeing from all of these guys. And I know you heard,
I forget who who was saying, maybe it was Jalen
Hyatt that the targeting all of these quarterbacks are dead accurate.
I mean Jameis Winston and notwithstanding with that interception, is
putting the balls where you needed to be, Tommy DeVito
with these RPOs, you know, putting it in a belly
of the running back, pulling it and throwing darts, you know,

(51:10):
in tight coverts, tight windows to make a lot of
these plays tonight, it's just it's just impressive. And so
you gotta give so much credit to Shay Tierney, the
quarterback coach, and oblie to Mike Kofka and Bron Dables
for instructing these guys to just be aggressive. And the
quarterbacks have in a lot of ways made the success

(51:30):
of these wide receivers and tight ends possible.

Speaker 2 (51:32):

Speaker 1 (51:58):
Are on the bubble.

Speaker 2 (51:59):
What the next three or four days is going to
be like leading up to four o'clock on Tuesday.

Speaker 1 (52:04):
Yeah, it's nerve racking because there's there's nothing really that
you can do.

Speaker 3 (52:08):
There's no there's there's no more games that you can
show out on. There's no more uh you know, examples
that can can can show the coaches that you can
contribute in different ways. You might have one more practice
on Sunday, Yeah, but what does that practice gonna look like?
I know it's not it's not a game, and I
should mention by the way, I would not be surprised
if we get a handful of cuts tomorrow or the
next day for the guys that they're definitely probably not

(52:30):
going to bring back on the practice squad. I would
not be surprised to see some quick ones over the
next couple Yeah. I think there's there's there's a strategy
to this, and you know not to you know, get
into the inner workings of what Joe Shane is looking
to do. But there's a strategy and a timing to
how you go about, uh pairing down your roster and
certain guys you really want to keep, you you really

(52:50):
want to hope that another team after you cut them
doesn't claim them, and and so holding onto those guys
to the last possible minute is likely so that you
release some of these other really good players. Because we've
said this multiple times, the Giants are gonna cut good players,
guys that can play in the NFL and will definitely
be on other teams this season. You're gonna see that happen.

(53:12):
They're gonna get cut and they're gonna get picked up.

Speaker 1 (53:14):
So you do it early.

Speaker 3 (53:16):
I think you're right, your instinct is right on that
on that regard, and I think other teams will as well.
You hope the teams fill the need with somebody else, Right,
and then you can, let's call it quietly, even though
it's not really quiet, but quietly release and resign some
of these young.

Speaker 1 (53:31):
Players they get lost in the cry. Other guys get.

Speaker 3 (53:36):
Release and resign some of these guys that you believe
can be a part of your future, even if they're
not a part of the immediate future.

Speaker 1 (53:42):
All Right, the last thing we'll talk about here.

Speaker 2 (53:44):
It's now officially Friday, So in sixteen days, at one o'clock,
the Giants will be in our nation's capital taking on
the Washington Commanders to kick off the twenty twenty five
NFL season. Give me Tiki Barber's first thoughts of that
regular season game and kind of what you'll be thinking
about over the next two plus weeks as the Giants,

(54:05):
for the first time in a long time, try to
start a season off with a w Yeah, it's.

Speaker 3 (54:10):
You know, we had this conversation, me and Tommy had
this conversation on Evan and Tiki today, and you know,
the last couple of seasons, you kind of got a
sense of what the Giant season was gonna be like
by how they got blitzed in Week one and.

Speaker 1 (54:25):
By halftime of Week one. You already had kind of
a just you just didn't feel good and it felt like,
oh god.

Speaker 3 (54:31):
And so even if they go to the Nation's Capitol,
and even if they go to down to Jerry World
and they lose those games, it's how they lose those games.

Speaker 1 (54:40):
It's gonna matter a lot. It'll be really tough to
not win one of those first two games. But here's
the thing that we also can can take.

Speaker 3 (54:48):
Nobody thought the Commanders, with a rookie quarterback and a
new head coach, Dan Quinn, who was famous for twenty
three three, whatever the heck that that Patriots score.

Speaker 1 (54:57):
Was, was gonna be successful.

Speaker 3 (54:59):
But he he came in with a renewed energy and
a renewed vigor personal development plan, not just for him
and his coaches, but for the players.

Speaker 1 (55:09):
Griffin's offended by the way he said it was twenty eight,
twenty eight, whatever it was.

Speaker 3 (55:14):
I'm not a Patriots fan, so but you know what
I mean, It's just that's what he was remembered for.
And then he comes to Washington and I think, to
a lot of people's surprise, created a winner, and it
feels like a sustainable winner. And so why can't that
be the Giants. One of the things that feels I
think unique about this this iteration of a dab and

(55:37):
chain organized team, is it feels fresh.

Speaker 1 (55:41):
It really doesn't.

Speaker 3 (55:41):
Usually when you're going into your fourth year as a coach,
it feels stale. It's like, oh, here we go again.
This is not going to be any good. We saw
these the lack of production the last couple of years.
How is this going to be any better? But this
year feels fresh for the Giants, and I think maybe.

Speaker 1 (55:59):
It's be of the youth. As we've we've alluded to
is the fourth.

Speaker 3 (56:03):
Youngest team in the NFL this year. It maybe it's
because it's the quarterback room just feels energized. And I
think a lot of it is just the personality of
Brian Abele and so why can't they do what the
Commanders did a year?

Speaker 1 (56:19):
And the personality of Russell Wilson, by the way.

Speaker 3 (56:20):
And the leadership of Russell Wilson, and the levity of
Jameis Winston and the future success that we know is
coming of Jackson Dart those things can drive you. And
I feel like it's not a foregone conclusion. Everybody's talking
about how hard to schedule is with the Commanders, and
then the Cowboys and the Chiefs and then the Chargers,

(56:42):
and then you got the Eagles wrapped in the three
games set there over the next few weeks.

Speaker 1 (56:47):
It just it feels daunting.

Speaker 3 (56:48):
And you hear some of these social media, you know,
experts talking about how they're gonna be gohing seventeen they
can't win a game.

Speaker 1 (56:55):
I don't feel that. I don't.

Speaker 3 (56:56):
I don't feel that at all, And so I think
it'll start positive even if they don't necessarily come out
with a w in the in the Nation's Cap.

Speaker 2 (57:04):
And two holly very important division games. You don't ever
want to start your division zero to two, and you
don't want to be staring at Patrick Mahomes on Sunday
Night Football in Week three trying to avoid oh and
three records, So very important to try to get one
of those first two wins.

Speaker 1 (57:17):
Even though they're on the road.

Speaker 2 (57:19):
You mentioned the Commanders, Dallas Cowboys new head coach, who
knows if Michael Parson's gonna be on the field. Their
defense has a lot of holes in the secondary and
a defensive tackle. So if the Giants play well, they
could very well be in a position the NFL A
couple of any given Sunday, Baby, it's the NFL.

Speaker 1 (57:36):
Any given Sunday, any given year.

Speaker 2 (57:38):
Did you just go out, just go out? And this
was my refrain last year. You just got to go
out and play a better brand of football every week.
And if you play a better brand the football, you're
gonna figure out a way to win something.

Speaker 3 (57:49):
What I do know is going to happen is that
this team is not going to be conservative. This team
is not going to be shake the tech down and
don't don't, don't risk the turnover.

Speaker 1 (57:58):
How many nine routes have we seen in this preseason games?
Screens and bombs?

Speaker 2 (58:03):
Yeah, well, screens, RPOs, bombs, And that's basically been what
the offense has been over the course of this preseason. Tiki,
