Speaker 1 (00:01):
Give me clarity yet about Jackson darts availability and do
you expected him to be available to practice Wednesday and
play next next weekend.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
And still in the protocol.

Speaker 3 (00:10):
So I'm just gonna, you know, see that through talk
with the medical and when they give us the thumbs up,
then we'll take the next action.

Speaker 4 (00:18):
What did you think overall looking at the film of
how James played?

Speaker 3 (00:22):
I thought I felt the same way I felt like
he did after the game, you know, I thought he
I thought he did a nice job. Obviously had a
couple of turnovers there at the end, but his aggressive mentality,
he handled the huddle, He was great on the sideline
with the adjustments. You know, he had great command, great urgency,
he was really decisive. So I had a lot of
a lot of praise for Jamis.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
Thank you, Patty China.

Speaker 4 (00:45):
Good morning, Mike.

Speaker 5 (00:46):
How are you, Mike sticking with Jackson Darth for a moment?
There's obviously a need, I guess, to kind of teach
him to be a little less reckless, if you will,
when he runs. How do you do that? Do you
set parameters regarding you know, what to do in certain
situations on certain down, certain yardageer? How do you get
that message across to him without compromising his you know, fearlessness.

Speaker 3 (01:11):
I think that's I think that's the fine line. You
think you hit on it right there. And I think Jackson,
you know, going through the whole draft process with them
and understand what kind of player is. He's an aggressive
player and that's what we love about him. But obviously,
you know, you want to show them some examples that
he can learn from. I think he's going through that now.
I think he'll he'll continue to grow to grow from
those things. But at the end of the day, you know,

(01:34):
he is he is a competitor and that's why we
love this guy. And and I think he'll he'll continue
to learn and grow. But you don't want to put
a player like that in the box. Obviously, you want
to give him some showing the examples that he can
improve on.

Speaker 2 (01:46):
And I think he'll take that to the bank.

Speaker 5 (01:48):
But how hard is that, Mike, Because you know you
can show him examples, but no two examples.

Speaker 6 (01:52):
Are over the same.

Speaker 3 (01:54):
Absolutely, Absolutely, the game is very fluid, it's very different,
So you know, every every single play is kind of
a game of it in its own and so each
example that he goes through and more experience that he gets,
he'll continue to learn from that.

Speaker 6 (02:08):
Thank you, Thanks Palm Rock.

Speaker 4 (02:12):
Mike, I think we forgot to ask you last night
about Paulson.

Speaker 7 (02:15):
What happened with him pregame and and is you know
how big of a setback was was his knee injury?

Speaker 3 (02:22):
Yeah, he went through, he went through the pregame routine
and you know, I was talking with the doctors about
it and just didn't feel didn't feel good enough for it,
and so the doctors you know, recommended that that they
didn't go. So again, I got full trust in those
guys in their opinions on the player. Obviously, player of
health is super important to me. So I want to
make sure a debo is right, a rock and rolling,

(02:43):
that he's healthy and then when he's out there he
can go, you know, go after it.

Speaker 7 (02:46):
Is this kind of a setback that maybe puts him
back a couple of weeks now or are you gonna
try try to get him out there.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
Again next week? Yeah, I'm not sure severity of it.

Speaker 3 (02:57):
Well, we'll talk again and have a meeting with with
the Metal and see where it's at and kind of what,
you know, what the decision was and what happened there,
But you know, I got full trust in those guys,
and I know I know Debo's you know, he's itching
to get out.

Speaker 4 (03:09):
And then where did you see when you watched the
film of your defense?

Speaker 7 (03:12):
Obviously this was sort of the first game that you
got to do that as as the interim head coach.

Speaker 4 (03:18):
What what did you see there?

Speaker 6 (03:19):
And how do you fix it?

Speaker 4 (03:21):
How do you get those guys to be able to
close out these games?

Speaker 3 (03:24):
Yeah, I think the guys played aggressive, They played their
tails off for all sixty minutes. You know, we had
some opportunities, some one on ones, whether it's on the
defensive line, whether it's in the back end, or it
was in the second level with the linebacker group. And
so that's going to be our focus this week is
getting to having those opportunities and finish them. We got
some drill work that we already talked through and that
will emphasize this week. But you know, that's really what

(03:46):
it comes down to on the defensive side is we
got our one on one opportunities, let's go nail them.
And I got full confident that our guys will go
and do that. But I think for from a coaching staff.
On the coaching side, we can continue to be creative
with how we're we're working those drills in practice and
put them in more situations to do that.

Speaker 8 (04:02):
Thanks, Thanks all sorts, Hey, Mikey, Paul, Mike A couple
of things.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
I'm just getting back to Jackson for second, has the
warnings and the videos and showing him examples of maybe
where he can be more protective of himself. Is that
been ramped up since you've taken over or is that
something that has been going on from day one.

Speaker 3 (04:28):
I just think I think you know you're playing a
game of football. You're playing an aggressive game to begin with.
That's a violent game. I think Jackson's aggressiveness. I don't
want him. The last thing I want him out there
is playing timid or afraid of getting injured. You want
him to go play as hard as he possibly can. Now,
there's gonna be opportunities for him to go ahead and

(04:48):
get down, and I trust that he's gonna make the
smart choice. There's gonna be opportunities where he's got to
go get a first down, and I trust that he's
going to go make the right choice. And so again,
with a player like this, you know, you don't want to.
You don't want to put him in a box, and
you don't want to, you know, put a bunch of
parameters on him. You wanted to go play free, play confidently,
and play the game that he's been playing his entire life.

(05:10):
And so, of course we want all our guys to
be healthy. We want Jackson to be healthy. You want
will all those guys to be healthy. So, you know,
I think from the quarterback position, there will be some opportunities.
And he did and he did in his last game
in Chicago. He slid it two or three times and
did a nice job in the open field. And you know,
so I'm not I'm not necessarily like going to go

(05:31):
over the top with it. I think he's a smart
player and he understands it and he gets it. But
when he gets his opportunities, we're gonna ask him to
go cut it loose and play ball and go ball
out there for us.

Speaker 6 (05:40):
Oh, well, just want more.

Speaker 4 (05:41):
I want to ask him about that. As far as
I mean, you've been with Jackson since the start.

Speaker 9 (05:46):
Here, you know, you're you're on the offensive side obviously,
So is this something that you have been speaking with
him about, like to my original question, is there anything
new with you taking over as the head coach that
will try to mitigate some of this or is this
stuff that has been going on from day one?

Speaker 3 (06:06):
You know, from well, our our personal conversations in the
in the in the quarterback room. It involves all the quarterbacks.
You know, Jackson's a part of those conversations. And you know,
how we're going to play the game, how we're gonna
play the game on the pruter, how we're gonna play
the run game of the past game, our screen game,
like all those things kind of factor into it. So, yeah,
we have a ton of conversations about how we're going

(06:27):
to play that game, and so I think I wouldn't
say there's anything in terms of like our process in
the quarterback room, Like we're gonna stay very consistent and
continue to prepare as best we can for each game.

Speaker 2 (06:38):
Thank you.

Speaker 8 (06:39):
Thanks Jordan ran On, Hey Mike Starm, Jordan, I wonder
what you what you saw when you went back and
you looked at the game ending interception are basically to
play with Jalen Hyatt and what did what did you see?

Speaker 2 (06:58):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (06:58):
It was you know, it was a a flag round
right there. You know, I think there was a little
bit of a little bit of miscommunication there.

Speaker 2 (07:05):
You know, I know.

Speaker 3 (07:06):
Jalen's feeling, you know, feeling hurt after the game just
about the result of that. And you know, you never
want to see the game end like that for us.
But our guys battled, man, our guys battle. I thought
Jamis played aggressive. I thought Jalen had some nice plays
in terms of stepping up and making a couple of catches.
You know, our guys battle all the way through. So
I was proud of them for that, just didn't get
the end result. But little community miscommunication that we got

(07:29):
to get cleaned up there, and you know, we'll be
better for it moving forward.

Speaker 4 (07:33):
What do you say to Jalen and how do you
move forward with that now?

Speaker 3 (07:37):
Yeah, And it's it's never just one play. It's never
just one person, you know, It's it's a team game.
It's all of us coming together, all of us making
those adjustments, and then when we get those opportunities, we
got to go make them right right there, right right
in front of us. We gotta go, we gotta go
nail it. So but it's not about one person and
it's not about one play. For us, it's about our
whole whole group. There's a lot of plays throughout throughout

(07:58):
an NFL game, and there's plenty of things that we
could have done better, myself included, and so I'm a
part of it with those guys, and you know, I'm
gonna work my tail off to get it cleaned up
and fixed and then go attack this week of practice.

Speaker 4 (08:11):
And you also, you ran the ball a lot on
first down yesterday. I think it was sixteen or nineteen
times in like the first three quarters. What was the
thinking behind.

Speaker 3 (08:19):
That for you guys, I'd say there was a little
bit of you know, how we're going to play the
game and you know, have a little bit of clock awareness.
But also I thought I thought there was some factors
of the win that were a little bit a part
of that. But I was just trying to stay on
track on first second down as much as we can
and you know, give us some favorable second downs to
get you know, in third downs as well, depending on

(08:40):
how aggressive we were going to be on fourth out.
That was just kind of our thought process throughout the week,
and then you know, our guys were executing on it,
so we kind of hung with it. But we had
a couple of alternative plans if things didn't go the
way we were anticipating.

Speaker 2 (08:55):
Thank you, we'll.

Speaker 6 (08:56):
Take four more Bryanton, maybe.

Speaker 2 (09:02):
Dunleavy counts us too.

Speaker 7 (09:11):
Rian, we can't.

Speaker 6 (09:12):
Really hear you. We'll go to Dan and then come
back to Ryan.

Speaker 2 (09:19):
Okay, Mike.

Speaker 10 (09:24):
Like head coaching specific questions, why do you receive the
opening kickoff?

Speaker 3 (09:30):
Yeah, that was you know, we were talking with our
game management crew, Kate and Tie and go be special teams.
So all that kind of played into it. Just where
we wanted to be in the fourth quarter. No one
was going to be a four quarter game and give
ourselves an opportunity with the kind of the wind in
fair role position. So it was a little bit of
just the game management side of it, and uh certainly
obviously had trust in the offense too, so kind of

(09:52):
killed two burget one stone.

Speaker 10 (09:54):
And obviously was your first day wielding the red flag.
Can you take you through the two decisions, the one
that you did challenge and then the one d one.

Speaker 2 (10:00):
That you didn't.

Speaker 3 (10:01):
Yeah, the first one, you know, we trusted the guys
up up upstairs on it, and I think you know
the guy did Jacobs up stepping down the bounds, but
was one that we thought was a little bit short
of the sticks, so we wanted to take take a
shot at it. Didn't get it even even looking today, look,
it was really close. Another replay showed there's kind of
like two angles, one right down the sideline where you

(10:23):
you know, you can kind of see a little bit
of green, but then the one from kind of the
side view, it looks like he's out, so you know
that you know, just being aggressive with it, and you know,
we knew he stepped out of the second time, so
it just kind of gave us another another another look
at it. But you know, I'm not hesitant to pull
the flag if our guys see something and they're confident
about it. They were, I mean, they they jump right

(10:44):
out and they challenged this one. Gave ourselves a chance
possibly for a second or a third and two on
the mind side of the field where we can potentially
get the ball back and then.

Speaker 4 (10:53):
Not throwing it on the one dale one near the
sideline on there.

Speaker 3 (10:56):
Yeah, that one was kind of a product of when
their tight end when they when they ruled it incomplete
on the tight end on the on the on their
tight ends catch, fumble? Was it a fumble? It was incomplete?
That ruling kind of kind of swayed in terms of
how what we were going to do on the one

(11:16):
to Wandell. So once we kind of figured out that's
how they were going to rule it was a catch
or incompletion, then the one to Wandell, we just we said, okay,
that's in the same world. Didn't feel like it was
a strong catch, so we didn't throw the flag on.

Speaker 4 (11:32):
Sorry, thank you. Asked a question, but like, wasn't one
deal's before that play and.

Speaker 2 (11:38):
I thought it was.

Speaker 3 (11:39):
I might, I might have the two plays mixed up
in my head, but we were looking at it upstairs
and our guys felt really confident that it wasn't a catch.
I mean, I always trust me. I was asking them
about it. I saw the replay too, but those two,
you know, just the conference we had up there, we
just didn't pull a trigger on it.

Speaker 6 (11:56):
Gotcha.

Speaker 2 (11:56):
Thanks Evan Barnes.

Speaker 11 (12:00):
And like, hey, just to kind of follow up on
the run game question, just giving out, well, you guys
did run the ball. I know you just said kind
of why you guys did do it? How much do
you think that success you had you know, great, every
matchup is different, but how much can that success maybe
take some of the burden off of Jackson's where it's like, Okay,
if you want to run, you can have those decisions,

(12:21):
but doing how well you ran, you can lean more on,
say Tracy and Motor to kind of, you know, take
some of the pressure off him to say, hey, instead,
if you're running, these guys can run. So how much
does the success yesterday effect maybe how do you use
Jackson going forward?

Speaker 3 (12:37):
I'd say each each game is going to be a
little bit different how we build the game plan out
and what we think we can take advantage of. But
I think the way the way that our guys are
really playing it in terms of our offensive lines running well,
our running backs are running well, our receivers are blocking
force with authority. I think they did a nice job
this past weekend. So each week will be a little

(12:57):
bit different and we'll just kind of evaluate it as
we get into Detroit.

Speaker 2 (13:01):
Thanks thanks our stable.

Speaker 4 (13:06):
Hey Mike, good morning. Along those lines, everything you say,
you know, the.

Speaker 12 (13:11):
Receivers are blocking well, the offensive line is playing well.
You know, you're getting good quarterback play, running backs are
playing well.

Speaker 4 (13:19):
You've been here a while now, you know what it's like.

Speaker 12 (13:22):
I mean, you guys have been chasing that kind of
performance offensively for years. From your perspective now as an interim.

Speaker 13 (13:30):
Head coach, is it is it one of those things
where you go into every week and it's like, Okay,
well we've now got all of this going well, and
now there's the frustration of the complimentary football from the
flip side is not working. How do you, in your
own mind going into a given week, you know, deal
with that, deal with the idea of Okay, we've got

(13:51):
this going, but now we've got to get this going,
and it's just.

Speaker 12 (13:54):
Never seems to be matching up on game.

Speaker 3 (13:57):
Day for you guys. It's a team it's a team game.
And so I think what I what I've liked what
our players have done is they've stepped up and we
continue to continue to fight, continue to battle, and we're
going to continue to do that in practice, right, We're
going to continue to put our guys in competitive situations
to where we can finish those those things at the
end of the game. And so when when we're structuring practice,

(14:19):
how do I how do I put those guys in
more situations where maybe it's a more two minute drill.
Maybe it's you know, some some competitive drills. Maybe it's
some drill work that we can do with each unit
that puts them in those situations where they've got to
make a contested catch or a contested pass deflection. So
it's the drill work. It's emphasizing it, and I think
and I know when our guys are putting those situations,

(14:41):
they'll make the play when it comes to their way again.

Speaker 4 (14:44):
And just one more just the idea.

Speaker 12 (14:46):
Like I said, I mean, you've heard questions constantly about
the offensive line, the offensive line, the offensive line. That
performance yet again yesterday maybe doesn't stand out a because
of the result, but overall, it's kind of what we've
expected from this group at this point. Is there any
satisfaction or something to build off of knowing that you're

(15:07):
getting this constant performance seemingly every week from those five
guys up front.

Speaker 3 (15:12):
There's a lot to build off of and really across
the board, across the whole team. And that's what I'm
really excited about. Our coaches, you know, talking with them
this morning about how our guys played. There's a lot
to build off of, and so we're going to surely
show those examples. We're gonna show the examples where we
can make improvement, and then as a coaching staff, attack
those in the practice tactose in the meeting room and

(15:33):
give them the examples and the information and the tools
they need to go out and succeed.

Speaker 6 (15:39):
Thanks love f one, Brian that Mamie.

Speaker 4 (15:46):
Second attacked Mike, you got me?

Speaker 2 (15:48):
Gotcha?

Speaker 4 (15:49):
All right? I apologies. I guess this counts as four
because I have two for you.

Speaker 14 (15:55):
We didn't ask you last week and obviously you put
it Evan E and I R on Saturday, so we
haven't asked you that.

Speaker 4 (16:00):
How did Evan Neil.

Speaker 14 (16:01):
Get hurt without playing in a game and what and
what went into putting him on IR?

Speaker 2 (16:07):
So yeah, Evan, Evan got hurt doing a workout.

Speaker 3 (16:13):
So then then the docs, you know, the docks, made
the decision to to do the move that I are okay.

Speaker 4 (16:20):
And then yesterday we asked you about your staff. You
said you were evaluating everything.

Speaker 14 (16:24):
So this week, do you anticipate any changes to anybody's
role or position or status quo?

Speaker 2 (16:31):
I would say status quo.

Speaker 3 (16:32):
I anticipate any As a matter of fact, We're going
to go and attack this week. I'm excited. I'm excited
for this week of prep. The coaches are excited about it.
We just watched We just watched the tape with some
good fresh ideas, So you know, this would be a
couple of good work days here and we get the
players in tomorrow. We'll set that plan in motion.

Speaker 4 (16:50):
Oh that's a good last one, Mike. Why did you
make the change to Monday Tuesday players off day?

Speaker 3 (16:55):
I think I think that I think it's the coaches
a little bit of front end time in terms of
getting prepped, then they see them tomorrow. It kind of
takes the emotion out of the out of the out
of the out of the game, allows guys to kind
of evaluate it and see it with clear eyes, and
allows the coaches to do the same. And then it
gives us an opportunity to flip the page and move
on to the next opponent. So just a little bit different,

(17:17):
different routine, different schedule that I've had in the past.

Speaker 2 (17:20):
So I just thought it was a good fit.
