Speaker 1 (00:00):
Just curious.
Speaker 2 (00:01):
I know it goes back aways, you know, but how
have you seen Jackson as a you know, a young
player kind of show his leadership and manifest that throughout
the entire team and not just the QB room the
offensive huddle, and you know, from that respect.
Speaker 3 (00:22):
Yeah, I think I think I've seen and I know
I've seen Jackson just become more comfortable in that role.
You know, I think he started the season off as
the backup, and that's a different role, that's a different
responsive set of responsibilities. And now being a starter, you know,
number one, focusing on his own job and what he
has to do on a on a daily basis and
a weekly basis, and for to get himself ready to play.
But then also you're in the quarterback position, your quarterback role,
(00:45):
so that leadership is natural. And for him, it's not
about forcing anything. It's just about being himself and leading
the way that he sees it and bring bring guys
along with him. And those are the qualities that we've
seen since since the first day he's gotten here.
Speaker 2 (00:59):
Like you said, the you know, it's it's inherent for
the quarterback position. I mean, the idea you're you're the quarterback,
so that makes it a little bit easier, but for
a younger player to kind of spread from one side
of the ball to the other. I mean, guys on
the defense have been talking about Jackson and how much
his leadership has meant to them. I was just curious,
from your perspective of someone who's been in the league,
(01:20):
has seen a lot of players and a lot of
young players, is there anything that stands out differently as
to why he's been able to do that? From you know, jump.
Speaker 3 (01:29):
Really, yeah, I don't. I don't think there's like an
age requirement for leadership, whether you're a young or older veteran,
or one year or one month or however many. I
just think, like you know, I think that if you
have the leadership qualities, if you have the ability to
number one, lead yourself and then lead others and guys
you know, follow you based on how you operate and
(01:50):
how you carry yourself, then you know, I don't think
there's necessarily like a prerec for that. I mean, Jackson
does a great job because he's just being himself and
he's you know, control what he control. He's doing all
the things that that make him make him great and
he's just being himself. He's not trying to, you know,
be somebody else. He's just as genuine himself. Thanks well,
I appreciate it all.
Speaker 4 (02:12):
Schwartz and Mike, how are you.
Speaker 1 (02:17):
A couple more with Jackson?
Speaker 4 (02:19):
If you don't mind, do you feel you you know,
you have been on in on the ground floor with
him obviously, right, you know you you you know he
came in as a rookie ye wears offensive coordinator. Now
you're his head coach. Do you believe that that the
year one to year two development for a quarterback is
almost always pretty.
Speaker 3 (02:39):
Dramatic in terms of.
Speaker 4 (02:43):
Just being a better player?
Speaker 5 (02:44):
You know, you know all the rookie stuff, you know
all that rookie stuff, and then you come in your
next year, your second training camp, and you know, do
you feel you were a quarterback as well, that you're
just going to be better?
Speaker 4 (02:56):
Almost always?
Speaker 3 (02:58):
Yeah, I think I think the growth of think when
you learn, you learn so much faster from year one
to year two. You know, you have that full season
you're in, you're in an NFL style, you kind of
know how things operate. You've built somewhat of a framework
over routine and how you want to prepare yourself, whether
it's your body, your mind getting ready for you know,
OTAs you now have, you know now have a little
(03:19):
bit longer off season. It's not like you know, right
from your college season to a bowl game to you know,
prepping for the Combine, prepping for pro days. Then you
get drafted and you turning right into a rookie camp
and right o, Ta's it's kind of like a never
ending cycle, that rookie season. Then on top of that,
it's a long season, right, It's more games than you
ever played in your career, in your life, so that
(03:40):
that ends up being a long year. So now you
have time after this season to go through kind of
refine the things that that you want to how you
want to operate in the off season. And now you
have some time to kind of look back and really
and really dissect yourself and and really can make some
more steps to improvement.
Speaker 5 (03:58):
Do you have any doubt that he is a legitimate
NFL franchise quarterback?
Speaker 3 (04:03):
I don't have any doubts about that.
Speaker 4 (04:05):
And how anxious are you? How much have you enjoyed
working hit with him? And how anxious are you to continue?
Like I said, you were in on the ground floor
with this to continue this moving forward with him.
Speaker 3 (04:17):
Specifically, Yeah, Jackson's Jackson's been a pleasure to coach. He's
been awesome, learning every single day, absorbing as much information
you can, and then also, you know, put his own
fingerprint things, putting his own you know, personality on it.
And that's I think what's most important is you see
the growth, and you see a player that's continuing to
learn from the good the bad, and to continue to
(04:39):
take step forward and continue to step up and rise
to the occasion when things aren't great and take ownership
and take accountability and hold other guys accountable. You know,
those leadership qualities you're seeing from Jackson, and as a player,
he's going to continue to grow and get better. And
you know, I'm proud to be working with them and
happy for him, and you know, I'm excited to continue
(04:59):
to do that this week.
Speaker 1 (05:00):
Thanks mikempretience, Tom Rock.
Speaker 6 (05:05):
Mike, first of all, you know, you guys kept talking
last night about, you know, enjoying the plane ride home.
How how was the plane ride?
Speaker 4 (05:14):
It was good?
Speaker 3 (05:15):
It was it was it was a good plane ride.
It was smooth. You know, we got back in a
few hours there, and I think the guys enjoyed it.
You can hear the guys talking about the game and
the plays people were making. It was it was a
cool It was a cool atmosphere.
Speaker 6 (05:27):
How nice was it to just have that little bit
of a vibe on that plane? You guys, you guys,
the other two wins obviously weren't on the road, so
so to do that and to be able to.
Speaker 3 (05:37):
Fly home with that, yeah, yeah, it was great. You
know you kind of walked around the plane, you just
you felt the energy.
Speaker 7 (05:42):
It was.
Speaker 8 (05:42):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (05:43):
And and for all three phases that to play the
way they did that was just you know, it was
great for everyone to kind of be involved in that.
Speaker 6 (05:50):
Uh. And then I wanted to ask you just to
stay on the rookies, Marcus and d A just just
what you see from an undevelopment and and what these
what these reps mean probably from Marcus or you know
going forward with with Andrew out.
Speaker 3 (06:03):
Yeah, there's there's no substitute for the game reps. And
so you know, watching these guys play and play at
at a high level, and then yeah, there's certainly things
that we can continue to improve on, and we'll do
that this week. We'll have a great emphasis for him
and their individual periods and practice periods. But yeah, these
are young players that are that are growing and maturing
and and having really you know, significant snaps, and these
(06:24):
guys are doing a good job with it.
Speaker 6 (06:25):
What'd you see when you watched Marcus on film.
Speaker 3 (06:27):
Particularly, Yeah, Marcus has done done a great job. He's
you know, he's he's holding his own on the edge.
He's doing a nice job in the run game. Like
I said, there's plenty of things we can all improve on,
and you know, Marcus is no different there. But he's
doing a nice job. He's growing, he's learning just like
any young player, but he's competing, he's finishing all the
qualities and all the things that we're asking him to do,
(06:47):
he's doing them. Well.
Speaker 1 (06:49):
Appreciate it, Thank you, Thank you, Ryan's levee, Hey, Mike,
carry you, Hey run.
Speaker 7 (07:02):
Abdul had another nine pressure game yesterday. It is I mean,
is it as simple as he had a click moment
when he started you know, I don't know after the discipline,
when he started taking things maybe a little more seriously,
Is it as simple as that was a click moment?
And now we're seeing the real player, or is it
(07:23):
more complicated than that because his last whatever it is,
four or five games have been off the charts.
Speaker 3 (07:27):
Yeah, I'm just really I'm just really proud of Abdul
for how he's approached it. He's taken it upon himself
to continue to get better, and he's putting in the
work and there's you know, there's no substitute for hard work,
and and and the duel is continuing to do that,
getting in early, doing all the things in the meeting room,
and then on the field you're seeing it show up.
So it's a testament to him and the things that
he's done, not on I mean just not not only
(07:50):
on the field, but off the field as well. He's
taking great accountability in that and I'm very proud of
him for that. He's he's in a really nice job.
Speaker 7 (07:58):
As good as he was in training camp. Do you
think there's any part of like maybe he thought it
was going to be easier than it really was when
the season started because he was so good in training camp.
Speaker 3 (08:08):
Yeah, I don't think. I don't think that's the case.
I just think you see a guy who's who's learning
and growing as a young player. I'm sure he's in
his stride right now and is feeling good about what
he has to do. I think Charlie is doing a
really good job of putting in positions to be successful
moving around not only on the perimeter, but in the core,
complimenting him with Burns inside as well. And then on
(08:29):
top of that, he does have a couple other pieces
on that defensive line that are, you know, getting a
little bit of attention in Dexter and Burns. So he's
getting some from from one on one opportunities and he's
taking advantage of it. And when teams look to double Abdul,
that's when Burns in deck step up. So I think,
you know, if you're seeing it, just seeing a well
run room up front, they're doing a nice job of
(08:50):
getting pressures in general in the back end being doing
a good job being sticky. Charlie's mixing up the coverages
in the back end to allow these guys opportunity to
rush passer.
Speaker 7 (09:01):
And then one more on Deontay. I know the big
play was on special teams and not on corner, but
there's been outside calls Mike for two years. Like Giant
should move on from him, Giant should bench him how
obviously you've only been in charge a few weeks, but
the stick how hard is it to stick with.
Speaker 1 (09:20):
A player through those kind of times?
Speaker 7 (09:22):
And did you feel like that was kind of a
reward for him and for you guys for sticking with
sticking with him during tough times.
Speaker 3 (09:29):
Listen, all hats off to Deontay for stepping up for us.
You know when flot one down, he just stepped up
and rose to the occasion. Yeah, you're gonna have plays
where you're competing, and I know it was kind of
a loose play. The guy kind of like got lost
in the back part of the end zone. You know,
really good play by them right there at the end
of the game there. But yeah, he's a guy that
stepped up for us in multiple roles. You know, we
(09:50):
asked him to be in a kick returner and really
doesn't have you know, a ton of experience doing that
at this level and and just just absorbed it, loved
it and continued to grow and get better. And we
know he had some explosive ability. He has the speed
and the vision and uh and Goby has done a
really nice job with him, developing him and giving him
an opportunity and you know, yesterday it was just I
(10:10):
think a culmination of a lot of hard work back
there working with him and Goby and Cam, you know,
really working through the fundamentals of it, and and you know,
super happy for him that he had an opportunity there
to score a big one for us, and that was
much needed to me. He was right there to kind
of put it away and seal the deal for us,
and and Deonta did a nice job.
Speaker 6 (10:28):
Man.
Speaker 3 (10:28):
I'm really happy for him.
Speaker 1 (10:31):
Thanks, Mike, Thank you. We'll take two more. Jordan ran on, Hey, Mike,
good morning, Jordan.
Speaker 4 (10:38):
He doing.
Speaker 8 (10:40):
I might how how much is the concern level on
Javon Holland that maybe is that anything long term day
he's gonna have to worry about.
Speaker 3 (10:47):
I'm not I'm not one hundred percent sure right now.
We haven't met with the docs, so we'll meet with
them shortly, so we'll have we'll have an idea on
what that looks like for this week. But I don't
have I don't have the full the full story it.
Speaker 8 (11:00):
Yeah, I was just talking long term.
Speaker 3 (11:02):
Like, oh oh yeah, I don't really like like past
this week.
Speaker 8 (11:07):
It has something really bad or serious, like right away, it's.
Speaker 3 (11:10):
Not yeah, you wouldn't. I think we would know, we
we would know if it was really really bad. But
again I don't I don't have like, I don't want to.
I don't want to speak without knowing exactly.
Speaker 8 (11:18):
And then how do you approach week eighteens? Sometimes, you know,
teams take different approaches. You're obviously probably already starting up
on Dallas. How do you prepare for them? And do
you expect then, you know, are you just preparing as
if dak Krestof's going to play and play the whole game?
Speaker 4 (11:33):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (11:34):
Yeah, we're preparing for everybody, uh to have their their
full their full roster play. We'll keep our same, our
same routine that we have been in terms of our
installation process, knowing that the game was that you know,
we're kind of waiting to hear back when the game
was gonna be whether Saturday or Sunday. So now it's
Sunday at once, So now our plans are kind of
in place with our installation, So we're kind of just
(11:54):
in our normal routine in terms of the work week.
Speaker 8 (11:57):
And then for you guys, I'm talking personnel, do you
you just expect to Hey, you know, we're already playing
enough young guys, A lot of young guys are quarterbacks,
are rookie, right or left tackles a rookie. You just
continue to play it as you have the past few weeks.
Speaker 3 (12:10):
Yeah, that's the plan. That's the plan right now
