Speaker 1 (00:00):
I think he has made such stride.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
He was doing a good job of winning on his
routes and then really finishing through the catch. And that
was something earlier in the year that we really wanted
to focus on with him and make sure that he
was in a position to not only you know, be open,
but when the ball finds him, make him make the play.
Speaker 3 (00:22):
And he's done a really good job about these past
couple of weeks.
Speaker 1 (00:25):
How did he deal with the drops and he was
having some starters.
Speaker 2 (00:28):
With that, Yeah, just kept working, was able to kind
of go and and remember the player that that he is,
the reasons why he's here, and the reasons why he's
been you know, put in these situations. So I think
a lot of times it can it can get tricky,
especially in the climate we're in in terms of you know,
you go on social media and and uh, it's easy
(00:48):
to get lost in that stuff. It's easy to lose
side of who you are and easy to lose sight
of really the type of player you are. And he's
done a really good job of really focusing on his
details and just remember and who he is.
Speaker 1 (01:02):
What does getting dart back do for you?
Speaker 3 (01:05):
Guess?
Speaker 2 (01:06):
Yeah, being able to you know, he's he's cleared, and
then we're gonna make sure we get him ready to go.
And and he's a good player. He's done a lot
of good things. He can extend plays as a little
bit of a different element when he's out there in
terms of his athletic ability and play extension. But yeah,
it's it's it's always good to get our guys back.
Speaker 4 (01:29):
For you, what's it like working with him? I know
how first of all, how much did you work on
your tight ends? But did you really work a lot
with Dart before he came out.
Speaker 3 (01:36):
To see at all? Or I mean I was.
Speaker 2 (01:38):
I was focused on making sure those those titands were
playing well. So other than just the casual conversations, there
wasn't much you know, working with him, I would say,
but being able to get him or good to know
him better and how he sees the game, how he processes,
what he likes things along those lines, it's been really good.
He's a really smart player, really instinctive, sees the field
(01:59):
really well, So it's been it's been cool.
Speaker 4 (02:01):
I was just gonna ask, like, what's it been like
working with him? I don't he isn't clear, but just
being with him in meetings. What's what's it been like
to seeing how he sees the game and learning with
him and working with him.
Speaker 2 (02:09):
Now, yeah, with the with young quarterbacks in particular, you know,
there's a lot of different things that that that different quirks,
if you will, is to as to how they how
they see it, what they like when when they like things.
So again it's like get to know somebody and understanding
kind of what what his go tos are. And and
(02:31):
again he's he's a hell of a player and he's
done a great job of making plays for us, and
we need to keep putting positions to do.
Speaker 5 (02:37):
So how much do you coming off the concussion have
to be in his ear say hey, get down, get
out of bound. So let's try to avoid taking some
of these big hits, you know what.
Speaker 3 (02:47):
I think that's uh.
Speaker 2 (02:50):
A big part of playing quarterback, and especially especially starting quarterbacks,
especially guys that have his mobility. His mindset is really
understanding the value of being available, you know, and you're
never going to take that that mindset away from him,
(03:12):
and that that's the main reason as to you know,
why he is who he is, but being able to
understand when when you need to put the cape on
and you know when it's okay to go ahead and slide.
So uh again, I think that's part of the process
for these younger quarterbacks coming into the league is just
understanding you know, you always have that mindset of you know,
(03:32):
I'm going to do everything I can to to go
get that last yard. Well, you know, a yard with
twelve minutes ago in the first in the first quarter
is a little bit different than you know, a yard
to go with you know, ten seconds of go in
the game. So being able to have some situational awareness
there and understand when when we need him to put
the cape on and you know, when he needs to
(03:53):
protect himself.
Speaker 5 (03:55):
Any familiarity with you going up against the defense that
you were going to see on Monday night.
Speaker 3 (03:59):
A little it.
Speaker 2 (04:01):
You know, spent a couple of years there with Mike
and and you know, a couple of years with them
in Houston and and played against them, call plays against them.
Speaker 3 (04:10):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (04:11):
But yeah, so there's some familiarity with the scheme with
the players. Obviously with Harold and and some of those
guys that he's got, but yeah, they're there.
Speaker 3 (04:20):
There's some familiarity he's past.
Speaker 1 (04:22):
You guys really committed to their run. Uh and even
the box sports aunts man ever to jump out, what
has been behind that? Why has that been such an
emphasis for you guys.
Speaker 2 (04:31):
You know, really leaning on leaning on our offensive line.
They're doing a really good job of keeping us clean
and and making sure that we're able to be efficient
in the run game. And in doing so, it's it's
been able to open up some different opportunities for us
in the past game and really trying to tie all
that together. Uh So, obviously Jamis did a great job
(04:52):
last week and being able to go and and make.
Speaker 3 (04:54):
Some exposive plays there for us, particularly in.
Speaker 2 (04:56):
The play action game, and and our ability to run
the ball effective league and willingness to do so.
Speaker 3 (05:02):
I think it's open up that up.
Speaker 1 (05:03):
You guys pull out the bag of tricks like you did.
What do you think that kind of message tends to
your players.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
That there's a good play that's gonna score points. We're
gonna call it, you know, big thing one a long
time ago is just being able to trust your players,
you know. Uh, I don't think anybody quite Sawid Jamis's
touchdown and up the way that it did. But when
the ball was in the air and saw the matchup.
There was there was no panic from anybody on the sideline.
You know, there's multiple examples. I'm sure you guys remember
(05:33):
during camp at him going and shaking and stiff arming
and doing all that, and everyone had a good laugh
about it. But the way that play finished didn't really
surprise me.
Speaker 3 (05:42):
We've seen it.
Speaker 2 (05:42):
We saw it in Buffalo, we saw it in training camp,
and it's just really our ability to trust our players.
So their ability to go ahead and execute throughout the
week during practice when we call those plays gives you
a lot of confidence to be able to go and
call that in a game and know something good's gonna.
Speaker 3 (05:56):
Happen land on those plays last week?
Speaker 5 (05:59):
Is it sorting during the week, you know, went back
and found they had.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
Yeah, I think collectively, as you know, as you're going
through it, you see opportunities that come up. Hey, this,
Mary's was something we've done. You know, this looks like
something we've done in the past or earlier in the game.
The way they run a certain scheme may lend themselves
to be exposed in a certain situation. So yeah, there's
(06:24):
a lot that goes into it. But those are two
that we liked going into the game and they both
hit for us, you know.
Speaker 1 (06:32):
Calling the places. But so that last sequence they're downe
by the goal line late in regulation. Just taking it
through what you're hearing on the headsets, what your thought
was on just the overall approach there.
Speaker 2 (06:39):
Yeah, obviously you know had the well the first down,
we had the good run to get us to the two.
We ended up calling the action on second down.
Speaker 3 (06:50):
I thought it was good play. I thought we just
missed the throw.
Speaker 2 (06:55):
Third and goal from the two, figuring we have four
downs to go and win it and essentially end the game.
Aiden made a great play jump the count, wasn't it.
Obviously wasn't expecting losing four yards on that and at
that point in time, you know, felt like we still
had a good player to be able to go and
put the dagger in them, and just unfortunately we weren't
able to come.
Speaker 3 (07:15):
Up with the ball.
Speaker 5 (07:16):
You guys seem to have that thought process on third
down a lot, like, you know you're gonna go fourth
on fourth, let's just get yards on third down, run
it and at least give us a chance to give
us maybe both options on fourth down. How much is
that what you guys are thinking behind it and take
us through like what your thought process is.
Speaker 2 (07:36):
Yeah, there's there's always certain things. You know, where you're
at in the field, how the game's going, you know,
how we're playing up front, how the quarterback's playing. You
have non under grab it there you go. So I
think there's a lot that goes into it. And and again,
our ability to effectively run the football, you know, keeps
(07:57):
those opportunities open for us. And you know, one of
the luxuries of having the play caller be the ultimate
decision makers that he knows in his head, Hey, if
I get it to this down and distance, we're going
for it. So it definitely allows a little bit more
freedom there with the second and third down calls, knowing
that I got to get it to this number in
order to go for it. So again, our guy has
(08:18):
done a really good job. I think we're a third
and four that one for eight last week. And the
other thing it does too is it keeps the defense honest.
You know, typically when you get into those third down situations,
you're seeing a bunch of exotic fronts, multiple blitzers, things
along those lines that may not be the most sound
versus a simple run, and so you're giving them something
(08:38):
to think about. Also, as they're putting their third down
package together.
