Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome back, Thank you, good to be back. Did you
always know you were going to sign back?

Speaker 2 (00:05):
Well, you were waiting for.

Speaker 1 (00:07):
August last year.

Speaker 3 (00:08):
Yeah, I was hoping to come back. I was glad
that conversations started sooner than last year. So it worked
out and happy to be here.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
How do you look at this offensive line when it
could be the same five guys right from last year,
that's got to be a better starting point.

Speaker 3 (00:27):
It's always important to have continuity. I think we've talked
about that a lot, and we kind of saw the
effects of not having that after Andrew got hurt last year.
So to start the off season with everybody you know
where they're going to be, hopefully that's important.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
Great.

Speaker 4 (00:45):
I know it's early, and I know you're not in pants,
but what are some of your early impressions of the
young talent they brought in? Marcus where Jake is and.

Speaker 3 (00:52):
You're two and self point, Yes, specifically the offensive line,
we are deep, so there's a lot of depth. There's
a lot of talent. Marcus looks like he can be
a good player. Jake showed a lot of promise last year.
Hoping to build on that in year too. That's kind
of what you want to see out of your younger
players is to take that step forward after being in
the system for a year and having the same coaches

(01:14):
and all that.

Speaker 1 (01:14):
So it's it's important for those guys too. You got
a lot of new voices leaving the offense. Quarterback, Yes, yeah,
you what have you learned about those guys so far?

Speaker 3 (01:24):
I mean Russ He's been there, done that, been in
the league a long time, competed at a high level,
ten Pro Bowl, Super Bowl, Bend A two, a lot
of experience, and he's just been really good voice to
have in the offensive room. As far as the little
things where it's like we'll watch a clip, he'll go
back like, hey, look at this over here, make sure

(01:44):
we watch this, and just like no stone goes unturned
with him. And that's very important. I think a lot
of guys this time of year trying to be like,
all right, it's OTA's it's May, but that's not his
mindset and that's going to trickle down to our offense.

Speaker 2 (01:57):
And that's important for san Addie Jackson.

Speaker 3 (02:04):
And yeah, there's a lot of personalities in that room.
They're all different, not that one's better than the other,
but you know, Russ is definitely very detailed. Jamish great
like locker room guy, Tommy's Tommy, and then we're learning
about Jackson, you know, seeing what he's all about. But
they all bring something kind of unique and.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
Special to the room.

Speaker 3 (02:26):
So it's gonna be exciting to watch them kind of
progress throughout the offseason and training camp experience.

Speaker 4 (02:32):
I know Edd and Neil played guard in college. He
hasn't played it in the pros. In terms of the transition,
what is the biggest I think adjustment, if you will,
he has to make in switching from tackle to inside.

Speaker 3 (02:45):
So I've never played tackle in the NFL, so I
can't I can't speak to what how hard that position is.
But I played Garden it played center, and I just
know that inside things happen faster. The guys are bigger,
and there's a lot of moving parts. So if if
a defensive static, it's easy.

Speaker 1 (03:01):
To play guard. But they're not static.

Speaker 3 (03:02):
They're very dynamic, and that's probably one of the challenges
that goes kind of under the radar is how fast
things can happen and how many things you need to
be able to process in a short period of time.
So whereas tackles I think Sean o'harris said, you know,
they're kind of on the right side or left side
of the highway, and.

Speaker 1 (03:21):
They're kind of worried about what's going on over there.

Speaker 3 (03:23):
When you're in the middle, there's a lot more you
have to kind of take in a short period of time,
and it's not easy. There's not a lot of you know,
starting guards in the NFL for a reason.

Speaker 1 (03:33):
So is it, though a.

Speaker 4 (03:34):
Benefit that you're in a quote unquote phone inside? Does
that help?

Speaker 3 (03:39):
I don't think so, honestly, with the ability that you
see that these defensive linemen these days, they're not these
big fat slugs anymore. They're very athletic, dynamic. You look
at the young guy that we drafted in the third round.
He's a big dude, but he's very athletic. And then
you look at you know, decks inside. That is not
someone I would say that is I'd want in a

(03:59):
foam So.

Speaker 1 (04:02):
Just me personally.

Speaker 3 (04:04):
So there's definitely, yeah, they're closer to you, but that
doesn't mean that it's easier to block them.

Speaker 2 (04:09):
How is that dynamic ade? I mean he's competing for
a spot. Yeah, who are competing to hold on to
a spot. You know it could be the same spot.

Speaker 3 (04:18):
Yeah, we're all I mean, we're all competing. There's nothing
set in stone. This is may so you got to
earn it every day. And that's the reason I think
that I've been able to stick around the league for
fourteen years because I don't think that I've earned anything
or anything should be handed to me. And I'm sure
Evan feels the same way. I'm sure Jake feels the
same way. There's a lot of guys in our room
in the reality of the situation, and we'll have nine

(04:38):
or ten at the end of the season or in
a training camp, So you just want to be in
that nine or ten.

Speaker 1 (04:43):
How valuable are these reps for you? And you've been
in the league a long time, obviously.

Speaker 2 (04:48):
You didn't get easy.

Speaker 3 (04:50):
Yeah, I mean time on task is very important in
the NFL, working with guys talking about continuity earlier, being
in the same system and just kind of growing every
year and working on detail. Else you're not starting from
square one with somebody trying to figure out.

Speaker 1 (05:04):
Okay, what do I do here?

Speaker 3 (05:05):
So if you're new to the system, it's more difficult
and you got a lot more learning to do and
the way I view it as kind of like a
college course where it's maybe like your first year in
the system, it's like one on one or one hundred.
Now hopefully you're in the four hundreds, five hundreds where
you're really kind of getting to the nitty gritty of
how to find a little bit of an.

Speaker 1 (05:22):
Edge and be successful. What have you learn about John
Michael Schmidz. I love playing next to John.

Speaker 3 (05:28):
He's a really really smart center and I think he's
taken steps every year and hopefully this year, you know,
year three, you want to take another step. So you
want to be the guy, and I think he is
the guy, and we'll just you know, keep going.

Speaker 2 (05:43):
You what a guy like you, who is you know,
signed a one year contract.

Speaker 1 (05:48):
You're coming back.

Speaker 2 (05:48):
You've got you know that thirty five, the fact that
you can please you know, just tell anyone woing the Giants, Well,
I played every snap place to hear you know, I
think this four games, I didn't this and how much
is that?

Speaker 1 (06:01):
Just and your take?

Speaker 2 (06:03):
Just put that down in your resonating and they say, Okay,
I guess he's.

Speaker 1 (06:05):
Not too old.

Speaker 3 (06:07):
Yeah, I think age is just a number. It's such
a cliche, but it's true, and anybody can get hurt
and anybody can stay healthy. So I've been able to
stay healthy just in how I prepare and approach the game.
And a lot of it is luck to I don't
it's take that for granted, but.

Speaker 1 (06:26):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (06:27):
I've played every snap a couple of seasons in my career,
and that's just I guess a credit to how I
prepare myself for the season, and I guess my durability
in getting hit and all that.

Speaker 2 (06:39):
I mean, he's as at a badge of honor. I mean,
if you missed seven snaps, that you know any better
than that.

Speaker 3 (06:48):
Yeah, I mean, I don't know. My job is to play,
so I'm trying to play. I don't know that I
get a badge for that, and I can look back
on that. I guess what I'm done and say, yeah,
that's pretty cool. But I got to be out there,
and I want.

Speaker 1 (06:59):
To be out there.

Speaker 2 (07:00):
Any thoughts on the Nicks.

Speaker 1 (07:02):
Yeah, hopefully NIX and seven. Now we were saying NIX
and six, but NIX and seven, you're going you get
to go or no.

Speaker 3 (07:08):
I went to Game one, so that was, you know, shocking,
But hopefully figure it out.

Speaker 1 (07:15):
I'm excited you weren't. I didn't see one celebrity.

Speaker 3 (07:18):
Yeah no, I was bought my own tickets, took the train,
and many of the people you know.

Speaker 1 (07:24):
All right, thanks guys,
