Speaker 1 (00:00):
Karen, how you doing good? How you doing hey?
Speaker 2 (00:04):
And you have said that you feel like you're playing
the best football of your career individually. How much would
it mean to you just personally, you know, to make
the Pro Bowl, to get to get an honor like that,
you know, when it's all said.
Speaker 1 (00:18):
And done, it would be cool.
Speaker 3 (00:19):
You know if you kind of look at my career
and the trajectory I've had. I got drafted the Baltimore
I got traded New England after my third year, well
during my third year there in the preseason, but if
you look before that, I got cut because I'm the
pea squad, then got elevated, started a game and then
was on the active russe of the rest of the season.
Then in New England, I was inactive that entire twenty
(00:42):
nineteen season or a good majority of it.
Speaker 1 (00:44):
And then the twenty twenty season was a COVID season
and I.
Speaker 3 (00:48):
Played and then didn't play when an Ir came back,
was a starter, but got benched and then you know,
started the last couple of games. I left tackle, and
then the year after that signed in Miami and like
June right before training camp, and then got cut midway
through training camp because I just wasn't a fit there
with the regiment.
Speaker 1 (01:07):
They had there.
Speaker 3 (01:07):
And then you know, I go to Jacksonville for two days.
Flying to Jacksonville, I'm with the O line coach at
like eleven twelve in the morning, wake up, fly to
Dallas for the preseason game, get back to Jacksonville, get cut.
Then literally within minutes of getting cut, fly to Las Vegas.
(01:28):
Signed with their active roster with John Ruden, and I'm
there for three seasons. You know, that first season I
was there in twenty one, started a couple of games,
but then got benched because they just had guys that
they wanted to play over me, which is how the
NFL works, And then resigned there for a minimum contract
and ended up starting to right tackle, having to rotate
(01:50):
the first couple of games because they want to see
if I was.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
The right tackle.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
And then the next year resigning there again and starving
to rotate with guys, and then finally again to start
the rest of the season, and then here and you know,
finally being able to you know, be the guy. But
then last year having who's a left tackle because of injuries,
and then you know, now we're in the twenty twenty
five season where I'm able to stay at one position
for the entire season. So, you know, there's been a
(02:15):
lot of ups and downs throughout my entire career, but
you know, it just goes to show that if you
just put your head down and you work, and you
believe in yourself throughout everything you're going through, then you
know you can accomplish whatever you want accomplish in this profession.
Speaker 1 (02:28):
And the only person who can stuck you is you.
Thank you, Paul Schwarz. Thank Jermaine. How are you good?
You doing good? Good? Is there a.
Speaker 4 (02:41):
Balancing act in your mind? You have four games to
go and you don't have a contract for next year.
Is that Is it just as easy as say I'm
just concerned about this next.
Speaker 5 (02:51):
Game, or you know, would you say that you are
concerned in some way, shape or form about what comes
next for you and where are you're going to be
those kinds of things.
Speaker 3 (03:01):
No, Because I've been on one year contracts ever since
my second year in the league, So you know, every
year for me, it's kind of been a proven deal
or a situation where I don't have anything guarantee for
the next season, Like this was my first long term
contract I signed or you know, multiple year contract I
signed since my rookie year. So, like I said, I've
been on one year contracts ever since twenty what twenty eighteen,
(03:26):
So you know, for me, it's kind of same old,
same old. But it's cool because you know, I'm playing
my best ball right now. I'm confident, I feel great
out there. I'm having a lot of fun, and I
think that's why my play has been the way it is.
And I don't really worry about the future. I just
worry about the president and what I'm going through. And
you know, I got four more games to just show
this team that I'm part of I can be part
(03:46):
of the future, and just show the US the league
that I believe I'm the best right tackle in the league.
So you know, it's just it's been a fun season
for me and the offensive line as a whole, and
I'm just looking forth to the last four games.
Speaker 1 (03:56):
Is you said that prove to this team and the league?
What's the price already there? This team or the league
always starts with the team you run.
Speaker 3 (04:03):
You know, I can't control whatever people think about me,
but you know, as long as in this building they
think highly of me in the way I go out
there and I play and prepare and do everything I
can help this team win.
Speaker 1 (04:12):
That's what matters most of me. Do you have any.
Speaker 4 (04:14):
Sense on what they think about you and moving forward
those kind of things.
Speaker 3 (04:18):
I mean, I'm still starting, so you know, obviously, if
they believe that you're a starter, they think highly of
you in this profession. And I know that because I
haven't always been to start in my career, so you know,
in order to be a starter, that means they trust you.
And you know, I feel like I've done my job
at the high level this year along with at so
you know, I believe they think highly of me, and
you know my online coach does, and to me, that's
(04:39):
all that matters.
Speaker 1 (04:41):
Yeah, do you think highly of them? You're two and eleven,
you know what I mean? And it's signing into the
team that has been losing the last two years.
Speaker 3 (04:48):
No, I mean, that's why I came here because I
want to be a part of the change. And you know,
like I said last year, it was last year. But
then if you really the fifty games this year, and
you know, obviously we're two and eleven, but a majority
of those games we're winning or you know, we were
dominating the line of scrimmage. And for me, that's all
I can control is how I do my job and
how we do our job as a collective offensive line.
(05:09):
And like I said, if you look at what I've
done and what at has done GV. Schmidt running, you know,
as offensive line, we've been one of the best in
the league. So you know, we can't really control the
wins and losses, or we can control is the way
we play on a weekly basis.
Speaker 1 (05:23):
And you know, I think that's been at a high level. Thanks,
I appreciate it. Thank you. Hey, how you doing good.
Speaker 4 (05:34):
You know you detailed your personal journey in the league
pretty well at the beginning.
Speaker 1 (05:38):
Yeah, just in terms of you.
Speaker 4 (05:40):
Know, out of any players that I've spoken to, you've
been very in tune, you know, since I met you,
in terms of the personal versus the collective and the
idea of you know, I guess part of it is
being an offensive lineman. You have to think about yourself personally,
but you're always thinking of the collective. How do you
how do you balance.
Speaker 6 (05:57):
That year to year, even even game to game.
Speaker 4 (06:00):
The idea of you want to focus on your individual
but you also don't want to lose sight of what's
going on in the bigger picture and how does that
balance kind of work into your success or maybe what
you're not succeeding at.
Speaker 3 (06:15):
As a team, I'd say you have to be able
to not think about the future in a sense, especially
playing offensive line, because it's such a high pressure position
being out there on an island at tackle. With that,
if you think about things that you can't control, then
you're going to go out there and just lose the battle,
you know, Like this year, we've had a lot of
great matchups out there me and at hud Bo, and
(06:37):
for the most part, we've won those. But for me
as an individual, it's just been about on a weekly basis,
how can I be the best me? How can I
be the best version of myself? And how can I
help this team win and put this team in a
winning position. And that's just by going out there and
locking people up and doing my job. And at the
end of the season, you know, I'll be where I
want to be individually because of what I've been doing
(06:58):
during the year. But you know, I've been in this
position multiple times now where you don't know what's gonna
happen next season, and you know your playing the film
you put out there that can determine that, and sometimes
I let it get to me, and you know, certain
matchups I didn't perform how I needed to perform because
I was thinking about the future. This year has been
(07:19):
cool because I don't think about that at all, and
obviously you know this four games left is coming up,
but I don't really think about that now, and I'm
also not worried about it because I'm having a lot
of fun this year.
Speaker 1 (07:27):
But I'm also.
Speaker 3 (07:28):
Doing what any to do out there where when that comes,
it will handle itself because of what I've been doing
and you know what I've been able to accomplish the season.
Speaker 2 (07:39):
Gotcha last one?
Speaker 6 (07:42):
Brian Dunleavy, Heyjrmain, Thanks for doing this.
Speaker 5 (07:51):
Of course, I don't know if players probably don't need
a reminder of it, but it kind of is a
reminder when it When you guys played the Commanders the
first time, it was like, oh, it's a measuring stick
for the Giants against the NFC Championship.
Speaker 6 (08:05):
Game runner up last year, and now here they are
in a very similar position to you. If it's kind
of this game kind of service as a reminder for
people that the NFL is a year to the year league.
Just because you're good one year doesn't mean you're gonna
be good the next year, and vice versas. Just because
you guys are having a tough year doesn't mean another
tough years coming next year.
Speaker 3 (08:25):
No, one hundred percent. I mean, I think you see
that throughout the league. Rather the Short Lions, they made
the NCY Championship a couple years ago and Dan Quinn,
I mean dan Quinn, Dan Campbell after that season said
there's may been the only chance and they haven't been
back since. You know, Joe Burrow made the Super Bowl
a couple of years ago, and you know, people do, oh,
he's gonna make this a seasonal thing, and he hasn't back.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
He hasn't been back since.
Speaker 3 (08:44):
You know, team with the Chiefs, they're six and seven
and you know they were in their dynasty que unquote.
So you know, it's really hard to win in this
league on a yearly basis. It's really hard to be
the team that everyone is looking towards as a standard,
Like there's no standard in the NFL. There's teams that
winners seems to lose and every year every week is
a new challenge and you have to be ready to
(09:05):
meet that challenge head on. And you know, obviously losing sucks.
You don't go out there to lose games. You go
out there to win. And you know, every team's lost
games this year. There's no perfect team in the NFL,
and they won't be a perfect team the NFL. It's
hard to go seventeen and oho, you know, winning Super Bowl.
We're not winning the game. I'm without losing the game.
So I think every week you just have to look
(09:26):
yourself in the mirror and like, what can we do better?
What can we accomplish this game? And how can we
put ourselves in a better situation moving forward? And you know,
these lasts four weeks we're going to try to accomplish that.
Go out there when these games and not worry about
the future, just worry about the present and put ourselves
in the best situation moving forward.
Speaker 6 (09:42):
As the closeness of this year's games been easier, it
been harder to swallow for you, or easier than last year.
Like last year didn't feel like you guys were knocking
on the door quite as much as two and eleven.
This year had any different than two and eleven last year,
And if so, is it harder or easier to swallow?
Speaker 1 (10:00):
Not two and eleven sucks, Periits yeah, two eleven sucks period.
I mean, there's no.
Speaker 3 (10:05):
I mean, it's I'm not gonna look at this record
and be like, yeah, we're two eleven.
Speaker 1 (10:08):
Now we're two eleven lust year, but it's different. No,
it's not different. It's the same. We're two and eleven.
Speaker 3 (10:12):
Like you did things last year that got you to
two eleven, we did things this year that goes to
two and eleven. And you know, I can say that
our play is different. You know, we're in close games,
but we didn't finish those games. And so you know,
I'm another type of cherry pick things, and you know,
we look at the positive thing. I'm a positive guy
by nature. But at the same time, too, we're two
in eleven still, so you know, obviously there's a lot
(10:33):
of things for us to improve and as a team
and you know, me individually, but there's no cherry picking
at the record, like you know, I feel like that's
kind of like losing mentality to being like, oh yeah,
let's look at this and look at that. Now we're
two and eleven, Like we fight every single game. It's
every every single game. This team puts their effort forward,
and you know, efforts not a question. You know what
they'll want is not a question. It's just about us
(10:54):
as a team just being better. And like I said,
these lost four games are huge for us because we
win these next four games to put us from a
great position going forward and put this franchise in a
great position going forward.
