Speaker 1 (00:00):
Balance Jackson when aggressiveness and competitiveness with being safe like.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
Icons like yeah, I mean, first of all, just in
the fumbled, never been taken out of the game for
getting there knocked out of me, so that was the first.
But I mean I quite honestly felt like I could
split them when I you know, saw the open field.
So honestly, like in that situation, I didn't feel like
(00:30):
I was in too much of a threat to get
a big hit on me. But you know, I think
that quite honestly, like just situations based like if you're
gonna take a big hit, then yeah, you slide. But
I didn't feel like I was in a situation where
I was gonna take a really big hit, So I
felt like I could, you know, kind of extend the
play and maybe make something out of it. Just should
have held onto the ball. Did you do that they
(00:50):
took you out of the game. You wanted to finish
the draft? Yeah, that I don't know. I mean I
told him, I was like, I mean, you would feel
uncomfortable if you got the air knocked out of you too,
Like I'm I'm fine, I just I'm trying to get
my breath. So that was all there was obviously they
have like they're a little different in college, I guess,
but yeah, he did from behind right. The hit was
(01:14):
from behind right. Well, there's two guys. It was the
dB in front of me, and I think it was
the linebacker who kind of came from the side. The
moment you were going into.
Speaker 3 (01:22):
The medical time when kind of has gone viral of
you kind of making this motion where you just like,
hurry up, you want to.
Speaker 2 (01:27):
Get back out there. Yeah, I mean, like I said,
I didn't understand why I got took off the field,
so I was just, you know, I wanted to get
back out there and finish the drive. So I just
you know, area was kind of just like walking over.
I'm like, let's let's go. I want to get back
out there. So, you know, shout out to Jamis for
you know, throwing a touchdown and finishing that that last
strive that I was in.
Speaker 3 (01:48):
He making any jokes with you about kind of stealing
one of the way happened in practice a few weeks.
Speaker 2 (01:54):
Ago, No, I mean, we're just we're a team. So
uh anytime you put points on the board and thought
it was good for Jail to get that as well,
So I was just happy to put put points up
in that situation. You would you have liked would you
like to slide in that situation?
Speaker 3 (02:10):
Get you where you're just like, Hey, I'm gonna try
to get issue yours.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
When I can. Yeah, I think it's just like situation based.
Like I said, I feel like I could have made
a bigger play on it, and I thought I could
split them, And I feel like, if you know, I
just break a tackle then I'm gone. So but yeah,
I mean there's situations where you know things are super congesting,
you're gonna take a big shot, then obviously you want
to get down. But I felt like it was the
open field and I could have made a play.
Speaker 3 (02:33):
What does it say about this quarterback room that you're
off the field for one play and Jamis can float
it into the amazone for a touchdown.
Speaker 2 (02:41):
Yeah, we're all really good players. I think that everybody's
kind of seen that throughout practices, throughout camp, Like we
all operate at high levels and guys are just continuing
to get better each and every day. It's a really
fun room to be a part of because it's super
competitive that way, and we have an amazing relationship between
all of us, but it's it's definitely fine, and we're
all each other's biggest fans when we're out there on
(03:03):
the field.
Speaker 3 (03:03):
That also mean you have a smaller margin of era
when you do get an opportunity to play.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
M I mean, you gotta go out there and compete,
and you got to you know, make your plays when
when you're called and you'reut there on the field, and
we expect that everybody to make those plays. So I
don't think we really look at it that way. Jackson.
You're you're accustomed to starting obviously, Yeah, you did this
feel normal to you to start a game? Yeah? Absolutely,
you know I've never been you know, in my career, uh,
(03:30):
you know, coming off the bench, So just felt normal
to go out there and to play right off the bat.
Speaker 1 (03:34):
Jackson, the off season's over now, training camps over, pre
season's over. If you needed to play after everything you've
done this off season, do you feel you're ready?
Speaker 2 (03:44):
I feel like whenever my number is called that I'm
gonna go out there and I'm gonna play my game.
I'm gonna ball, And that's just my mindset anytime I
touched the field. Obviously, you know, Russ is the starter.
And he's gonna do amazing. He's had such a great
camp and has played an elite level. So you know,
my job is just be the best teammate and you know,
be ready to you whenever it is. But you know,
(04:05):
I'm excited for us and what he's going to do
this year.
Speaker 3 (04:08):
Games mentioned that, you know, other than just starting, he
liked to add a little other things to to routine,
including going out there for a coin toss, and he
mentioned how that was so different for your routine. What
was that like, adding to the preparation of the game
and kind of figuring out.
Speaker 2 (04:23):
How is this done?
Speaker 3 (04:23):
You know, the new elements of an NFL game.
Speaker 2 (04:26):
Yeah, I haven't been out for a contoss since high
school because you know, ole miss we always wanted the
ball first, so I had to get my arm armed
up and get ready to go. So I have other
guys go and do it for me. So when he
was like go do it, I was like should? I
can't even remember what to do. But it was a
good experience, especially for men Abdul. After three games, what
(04:48):
do you think you've learned the most so far? Just
from his experience and from growing a sup quarterbacks? So far,
I think I've learned a lot about like preparation going
into get especially at this level. I've just felt more
and more comfortable each week, and I think that, you know,
attributes to just the time that I've put into, you know,
(05:10):
trying to learn the system to the best of my abilities.
I've also learned that every guy out there on the
field is an elite player at what they do, so
you know, you can't you can't let one mistake lead
to another one, and little things in your game will
get exposed. So I think that, you know, through my
(05:31):
time in camp, I've been able to, you know, grow
and learn from a lot of those things, and then
when I come out on the field and able to
you know, correlate that to the game of just things
that I've learned. So, you know, I think the biggest
thing is just preparation and routine.
Speaker 1 (05:44):
Jackson, was there a specific moment, whether it was training, camp,
gaming as the Bills, anything like that where I know
you're a very confident player, but where something happened when
you're like, this is the NFL, I got this, I
could do this. I got it, like it would be
confirmed and reaffirmed in your mind, like you.
Speaker 2 (05:59):
Can do that. I think I've just always had that
thought in my head. Yeah, I've said this, like, when
I step on the field, I expect to play at
a high level and to be honest, like, you know,
I have the confidence. I feel like I'm gonna be
the best player on the field every time I touch
on it. So I think I just, you know, I
(06:20):
kind of just expect to play good. Like that's just
the standard that I have for myself. So when you
don't play to that standard, it's it's really frustrating. And
then you know, you just try to, you know, be
consistent and play to your level.
Speaker 3 (06:33):
You talked about how we talked about how you expect
Russell to go out there and be great, and also
that you haven't.
Speaker 2 (06:39):
You've been a starter your entire life, so this could
be it for you for a while. How tough will
that be to sit on the bench and I have
to watch somebody else for the first time. Yeah, I'm
just I'm just shifting my perspective to be the best
teammate that I can be. Russ has completely earned that
role for him, and he's played amazing, He's played elite,
So uh, you know, for me, I'm just I just
(07:01):
want to be the best teammate and I just want
I want this team to win. So you know, whatever
my role is for that to happen, I'm gonna do
that to the best of my ability. Close to tell you know,
his future here is obviously yeah a little.
Speaker 3 (07:15):
What was it like watching him play there?
Speaker 2 (07:18):
Yeah, I was. I was so excited. You know, in
the quarterback room, we can make like who he think
is gonna be the player of the game, and I said, no,
I felt like it was gonna be. Tommy caf said
that we can't pick a guy in the room, but
I knew that he was going to go out there
and ball, and you know, just the things that I've
seen and how much I've grown from just you know,
learning from him. Uh, not only is he a great teammate,
(07:40):
but he's you know, one of my best friends on
the team too. So I was really happy to see
him play at the level that he did, and it
really just wasn't any surprise for any of us.
