Speaker 1 (00:00):
Jackson Evan Barnes News Day just, how how was your
first day? Yeah, I mean this was. I mean, it's
been surreal up to this point.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
Meeting Abdul was just talking about it and it's like,
you know, it kind of just hit us for the
first time, you know, being out here, we're in this Jersey,
it's an amazing privilege. So you know, we definitely hold
it in high regard, and you just want to continue
to get better each and every day. In any time
you get to play football, it's the best.
Speaker 3 (00:20):
So Jackson Connor cues us, and why I think the
Giants sort releasing some of the clips of the production
the day done from the draft process and you and
Davell going back and forth on the whiteboard, I think started.
Speaker 1 (00:33):
Going viral a little bit, and like, can you just
take us through that?
Speaker 3 (00:35):
What what it was like being tested in that regard?
Speaker 1 (00:37):
How'd you been testing that regard? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (00:39):
Absolutely, I mean I think a lot of people have seen,
you know, the process a little bit on hard knocks,
but it's intense. Uh, you know, I kind of had
an idea coming into it, you know that I had
to make sure that I was on my p's and
Q's when I walked in.
Speaker 1 (00:49):
So it was super fun.
Speaker 2 (00:51):
I think that at the same time, you know, me
and him were able to just form like an organic relationship,
and you know, they definitely tested me, you know, harder
than any other you know team throughout this process, and
you know, I was just grateful to to to come
here and and to take that challenge.
Speaker 1 (01:05):
On and you know, be around these great coaches.
Speaker 3 (01:07):
What was it that you identified that seemed to go pretty.
Speaker 2 (01:11):
I just a concept and I figured out pretty quick.
And then it was a question that they hadn't you know,
put into my installer, you know, for me to know that,
I just kind of knew it.
Speaker 1 (01:19):
So athletics.
Speaker 4 (01:21):
So just watch Hard Knocks as like as a football fan.
And then did that give you a little clue of
what you'd be in for when you down devil?
Speaker 2 (01:28):
Quite honestly, I didn't watch it all, but I just
saw like clips of it on TikTok, So.
Speaker 1 (01:34):
Yeah, yeah, absolutely, Jack say Jim a series Picks eleven here.
Speaker 5 (01:39):
Uh Cam was up here just a minute ago, just
talking about how smart you seem out there on day one.
How much pride do you take in performing off the
field as well as on the field.
Speaker 1 (01:50):
Yeah, as a quarterback, you know, you're the one that run.
You know, you run the ship when you're out there.
Speaker 2 (01:54):
So you know, if you're if you don't know the
ins and outs of everything, you're not going to have
everybody around you prepared.
Speaker 1 (01:59):
And I think that's super important. It's very important.
Speaker 2 (02:01):
To have that that mindset coming to work each and
every day. And I think that that also raises the
bar for everybody around you. And I think that if
you want to be a great team and you want
to you know, compete at the highest level, that's definitely
how you have to be as a quarterback.
Speaker 5 (02:14):
Ye see, thank you.
Speaker 6 (02:18):
Have you had any chance to speak with Woindson and
or Wilson And if not, what's one of the first
things you want to ask those guys?
Speaker 1 (02:25):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (02:25):
Yeah, they've been great. You know, they were some of
the first people to text me when I got drafted,
and I thought that was just super cool. You know,
those are those are guys that I've looked up to
for such a long time. You know, I've said this before,
Like I remember I was wearing Russ's jersey, uh with
the Seahawks when you want a Super Bowl? So like
I said, these guys have been you know, people who
I've really looked up to, and you.
Speaker 1 (02:46):
Know I hold them in the highest regards.
Speaker 2 (02:48):
So I think for me being in the situation, being
able to be a sponge and you know, soaking all
the information that I can will help elevate me. And
then at the same time, you know, I just want
to compete and make everybody else better in the room
as well than Jack.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
Stay up from the record, Lets meet too.
Speaker 6 (03:02):
Yeah, you're a guy that talking to people who've played
with you. You want to be in every room. You
want to meet the guys. You want to get guys
prepared for you know, whether it's practice or a game.
When you come to rookie Minni camp. I mean, there
are a lot of guys who probably you know won't
be here come Sunday. For you, What was the process
like starting last night of getting your guys that you're
(03:22):
playing with today and tomorrow ready for the opportunity to
look like you know, you're trying to get guys set
up in the seven on sevens, guys who you haven't
played with. What is that like? What's that mindset like
for you? For a guy who always wants to take
care of that.
Speaker 2 (03:35):
Yeah, well, first and foremost, I mean, this is just
an incredible opportunity for anybody who can step on the
field out here at this you know, at the NFL level.
So I think for all of us, we're just super
grateful to be here. It doesn't matter where he got drafted,
where he got picked. You got to come with the
same mind. It's each and every day. And you see
so many guys across the league who have you know,
a ton of success, who maybe weren't even drafted the highest,
but you know they come to work every single day
(03:55):
and they're consistent. And I think the biggest thing coming
out here, Uh, you know, we had you know, a
great group last night. We all got together and made
sure that we went through the script and did a
walk through. So you know, that made coming out here
on the field, you know, the operation a lot smoother
and everybody was a lot more confident, was able to
play a lot faster when we got.
Speaker 3 (04:11):
To the field in the building or you're talking about
like when you got back.
Speaker 2 (04:14):
To Yeah, we just talked on the bus on our
way back, and you know, I think as the quarterback,
you got to make sure that everybody knows what they're doing. So,
you know, I tried to, you know, get as many
guys as I could together on the offensive side of
the ball and go through it and teach everybody, making
sure that.
Speaker 1 (04:27):
We're all on the same page. Ran from then to
meet you for any story behind that necklace. Yeah, actually
here's the story. So my little sister had it. It
was hers.
Speaker 2 (04:41):
It was before our bowl game, and as I was
leaving the house over Christmas a little break before the
bowl game, and just saw it in a room and
I was like, you know what, I kind of like it,
so put it on.
Speaker 1 (04:53):
It's kind of been good luck for me ever since.
Speaker 5 (04:54):
So and then the other thing totally shifting years to
football everybody, So the John Gruden clip, the snapcount, et cetera.
How comfortable are you doing a snapcount?
Speaker 2 (05:04):
And those table said you're gonna have to do one
today versus versus what you did in college with the clapping.
Speaker 1 (05:08):
Yeah, did you guys hear me?
Speaker 5 (05:09):
Good?
Speaker 1 (05:10):
While I was out there. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (05:12):
Now, I feel like it's been super fun. You know,
quite honestly, it's been something that I've always wanted to
do and I've always kind of practiced it, you know,
on my own or you know, kind of just messing
around with buddies and whatnot.
Speaker 1 (05:22):
But you know, I think it's always a little bit
of a transition.
Speaker 2 (05:25):
You know, it really goes for anybody from the college
level to the NFL level. The cadence is different no
matter where you've been at, so you're always gonna have
a little bit of a learning curve. But you know,
something that really excites me, and you know, I think
that you know, you have so many opportunities and advantages
with the cadence and you can do so many different
things that you know, can take advantage of the defense. So, uh,
definitely something I wanted to continue to excel at each
(05:46):
and every day.
Speaker 1 (05:52):
How does your sister feel about it?
Speaker 2 (05:53):
She likes it, She likes now. My little brother ordered
one too, so yeah, we got her another one too.
You got another one. I am the oldest.
Speaker 1 (06:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (06:04):
Jackson and Paul Schwartz from the New York Post, you
mentioned about how quarterback you know, needs to get everybody
involved and you don't know what's going on.
Speaker 8 (06:13):
I mean, how comfortable does a person have to be
to be you know, your first round pick your other
quarterback and started in a SEC school for many years
in their own skin and to be everyone looking at
you and waiting for you and you know the guy, Yeah,
how comfortable.
Speaker 1 (06:27):
Is that for you?
Speaker 2 (06:29):
I just think I'm really confident my preparation every day
and I feel like anytime I step on the field,
like I don't have doubts on my play. And I
think that that comes from taking the time to really
understand the scheme and what I'm doing and what's why
is a play called.
Speaker 1 (06:42):
To execute a certain way? And you know that's something
that I take pride on.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
And then you know, as a quarterback, you know you're
only as good as the guys around you, So you know,
you want to make sure that everybody's on the same
page and everybody has that same preparation aspect of making
sure that everything's down to a t and has.
Speaker 1 (06:58):
Done the right way.
Speaker 2 (06:59):
And our coaches did a great job praying for us,
and I kind of wanted to continue that because you know,
at times you're kind of limited with time, and uh,
you know, everybody kind of has a little question, So
just wanted to answer that and get everybody on the
same page.
Speaker 1 (07:10):
Jackson Steve s post.
Speaker 8 (07:13):
What kind of feedback were you getting from coach table on.
Speaker 4 (07:15):
The field today.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
Yeah, he coaches me up, like every second I'm around him.
He's the guy that will walk in a room say
you know, goodbye and whatnot, and then I'll come back.
Speaker 1 (07:24):
Thirty seconds later because he has an idea.
Speaker 2 (07:26):
So he's constantly, you know, coaching me, and I think
that that's just that's what I want to be around.
Speaker 1 (07:31):
You know, I want to be the coach.
Speaker 2 (07:32):
I want to be coached the hardest, and you know,
I feel like that's gonna help me excel the highest
level and help me reach my potential.
Speaker 1 (07:38):
So there's not another coach I'd rather be playing for.
Speaker 4 (07:41):
It seems like a lot after your last throw that
sounds specific about that read that play, or they're just
more just the entire period after you do that last bat,
like right.
Speaker 3 (07:49):
In your ear.
Speaker 1 (07:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (07:50):
No, he was just kind of you know, asking what
I was seeing, kind of explained it to him and
making sure that we're just on the same page.
Speaker 3 (07:55):
It became very clear some of the clips that have
come out during the drift process that he wanted you
that you were Davil's guy. What does that mean to
you to have a coach that that really really wants
to work with you and sees the potential in you
and is about.
Speaker 2 (08:08):
As investors years you can get. Yeah, I'm blessed to
be here. I'm blessed to be able to, you know,
be coached by him. And I think that we just
kind of collect, you know, personality wise of how we
handle things and kind of just like our competitive nature,
our toughness and our great about how we go about things.
Speaker 1 (08:22):
I think that that just helped us connect.
Speaker 2 (08:23):
And you know, he sees football the same way that
I see it, and you know, we see it as
a physical and tough sport. And you know, I think
that a lot of times you don't really see that
a ton with quarterbacks. And you know, for me, you know,
I I kind of play like a defensive player a
little bit with just you know, the way that I
attack each and every everything I do.
Speaker 1 (08:41):
Jackson Padliner, Daily News. You seem comfortable. Did that happen
very quickly?
Speaker 2 (08:47):
Like after you got drafted or just getting on the
field make you feel more comfortable?
Speaker 1 (08:51):
Like what you know? Can you walk me through how
you got to this point?
Speaker 2 (08:54):
Yeah, Like I said, I'm just I'm confident when I
step you know, in between those lines. I felt prepared
coming into today, and I'm a competitor, and I feel
like if you don't see yourself, you know, playing at
the highest level, you shouldn't even be between those lines
in the first place, especially as the quarterback of how
you're going to lead the guys around you. So you know,
I've come prepared and I'm confident when I step between
(09:15):
those lines.
Speaker 8 (09:17):
When is the last time you did not start?
Speaker 1 (09:19):
You know, when?
Speaker 8 (09:20):
Will you kind of a guy on the bench.
Speaker 1 (09:23):
I haven't you know, really sat before middle.
Speaker 7 (09:26):
School, elementary school, anything, nothing. Okay, well, okay, I wouldn't
know what that feels like. But how are you going
to deal with that?
Speaker 1 (09:39):
You know, I'm just I'm a competitor.
Speaker 2 (09:41):
So I'm gonna come to work at each and every
day and you know, do my best to make everybody
around me better. You know, I understand, you know what
the situation is, you know, but you know, for me
and myself, you know, I care about winning. You know,
there's nothing fun about losing, so uh, it doesn't matter
you know, where you're at on the depth chart, if
you're playing this much or not playing this much. If
you're losing sucks. So you know, for me, I want
(10:04):
to make the team better, and that's my focus.
Speaker 4 (10:06):
Why I was just gonna for about.
Speaker 1 (10:10):
Six Is it permanent? Hy six?
Speaker 2 (10:13):
Yeah, I think it will come to a final decision
here soon. Caught on and say kind of to just
look at the pictures to see if I like myself
and Michael sure.
Speaker 1 (10:24):
Hand spoke to you guys, and when what do you
take from that?
Speaker 4 (10:26):
And what do you think when a guy like that here?
Speaker 2 (10:28):
Yeah, yeah, that's incredible. He's a legend and you see
him on the walls. I've seen him on TV for
you know, a long time. He's bigger in person. So
it's great to have a have a person like that
who's open, who's able to come around the facility a
ton and kind of like Eli. You know, those are
people that you can lean on and ask for advice
because they've done it at the highest level. So that's
(10:50):
kind of my mindset, and I'm excited to continue to
grow my relationship with him,
