Speaker 1 (00:00):
When you walk in here on day one, What do
you want your teammates to know about you? Whether it's
a player, a person, or just a total package. What
do you want people to say about you?

Speaker 2 (00:10):
I just wanted to get to know me, man. I
just want them to to say, like, yoh, he's a
cool guy. I'm here just like everybody else. All I
want to do is, you know, writ a playbook, dive
deeper into the family and uh and become a unit,
become become a part of that that Giants legacy.

Speaker 3 (00:25):
So uh yeah, nothing too crazy.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
It's day one, so I'm keeping it, keeping it cool, man,
Just saying what's up to everybody?

Speaker 3 (00:31):
And you know, putting the face to a name.

Speaker 1 (00:34):
But it's it has to be a little different, right,
I Mean it's the first new team that you're joining
in the league, so you you knew everybody that you
were with in Miami. I mean, once you established your impression,
people knew who you were. You know, they knew the
type of player you were. Is it any different coming
to a new team like this, where you know you
want you know, people have watched you for years, so

(00:54):
they already have opinions of who you are as a
player and a person.

Speaker 4 (00:59):
You know.

Speaker 2 (00:59):
I mean it might be it might be for them,
it might be for them, but for me, it's the
same as meeting somebody for the first time. You know,
whether they're impression of me is something and and I'm
different than what they thought, or their impression of me
is exactly who I am. They're gonna get to know me,
and I'm gonna meet them the same way as I
meet any other strangers, just with a handshaking and saying
what's up, thanks, no problem.

Speaker 5 (01:22):
I'man Barnes, Hey, Javan, how's it going?

Speaker 3 (01:26):
You know, I can't complain. Man, A little sore right now,
but I'm feeling good. Hey, first day of practice. I
get work. Else, I get it.

Speaker 5 (01:32):
Man. Just curious, what were some of your conversations now
that you've you know, signed and obviously got to talk
to them guys, What are some of those early conversations
being just kind of get to know some of these
guys and nip gigging to know you. How have those conversations.

Speaker 4 (01:44):
Gone so far?

Speaker 3 (01:45):
They've gone They've gone great.

Speaker 2 (01:47):
All Really, it's just like regular introductions, like it's not
something special. Was just getting to know the guys who's
in the room, you know, telling them who I am
and in my background and why I'm here, and uh yeah,
telling them that I'm here, you know, be a great teammate,
support them, trying to help help win games. That's uh,
you know, that's that's the goal here is to win,
and I'm here to you know, I'm here to help.

Speaker 6 (02:09):
And and just kind of being around some of the
guys who already established here, Like what maybe I don't
know if anything's maybe surprised or anything, but just kind
of what is it like just seeing and being around
them versus maybe just talking them over the phone or
video charter.

Speaker 5 (02:21):
What's it like being around them?

Speaker 6 (02:23):
It's that first day.

Speaker 5 (02:24):
Is it just kind of like clicking or is it
just kind of like all right, let's get.

Speaker 3 (02:27):
To work, let's go. Yeah, I mean it's clicking. Everybody cool.
Everybody's cool here, bro, Like, everybody's just like a good time.

Speaker 2 (02:34):
Everybody's chill. Like it's it's day one, you know, it's
not like we're doing anything crazy. It's you know, workout
introductions and everybody's just here. It's a new year, fresh start,
and uh, everybody's ready to get to work and excited
to be a part of this, no problem turning.

Speaker 3 (02:54):
Hey, what's going on, Jamon? What's up? I'm curious.

Speaker 7 (02:58):
I know it's early, really really really early, right, but
I'm curious, what's your first impression coming into this of
the defense schematically of what they run here and kind
of how you fit into that.

Speaker 3 (03:09):
It's the first day, Bro, I have literally no idea.

Speaker 8 (03:12):
I mean, like even before, like forget the first day,
but like when you signed here, Like what what's your
kind of what do you envision?

Speaker 9 (03:19):
Like?

Speaker 7 (03:19):
What did they tell you about, Hey, you're gonna you're.

Speaker 8 (03:22):
Gonna fit in here.

Speaker 2 (03:24):
We're gonna fit in like my my attributes of you know,
being a long rangey safety that can come down and
cover men and man like you know, the things that
the general public knows absolutely, But in terms of the specifics,
like we we haven't even you know, we haven't even
gotten to that point yet. Today it was just about
checking hands, saying how you doing? And me and everybody
you know what what? I'm sure that you guys will
know before me when when we have you know, the

(03:46):
specifics on what's going down?

Speaker 3 (03:48):
What's going down?

Speaker 2 (03:48):
That's a question for coaches, bro, That's that's not a
question for me right now. But I mean, yeah, we
just you know, we just it was just introductions today.

Speaker 8 (03:55):
I was just curious about what you kind of wanted
and like what you kind of wanted when you entered
free agency, right, like, like in regards to a role
and what you can kind of thrive in. So that
that's kind of what I was getting at there.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
Okay, Yeah, yeah, you know, I think, uh, I think
I've been in a lot of different systems in my career,
and it's not necessarily that I like one more than
the other. It's just about you know, the flow of
the team, the personnel who we have, uh, that kind
of fits around how I want to be able to
help and where we need help at. So I wouldn't

(04:29):
say that I'm looking for one specific role or one
specific position, but more so finding my place where I can.

Speaker 3 (04:34):
Help the most.

Speaker 4 (04:39):
Carol, how's it gone?

Speaker 3 (04:41):
How are you good?

Speaker 4 (04:43):
We were just speaking with Russ and he was talking
about joking with you in the locker room about how
you kind of punched out balls back in the day.
Guess what your relationship with him is like and just
getting to kind of be here with him.

Speaker 3 (04:54):
No, it's it's actually it's really cool.

Speaker 2 (04:56):
My mom's a big Seahawks fan, and so growing up
in the Bay Area, obviously my I played for the Niners,
so like the rivalry Crabtree and you know, Richard Sherman
and you would go to the sorry crap anyway, So
over the years, just watching Russ like his whole career
from you know, Wisconsin or Nebraska, Wisconsin from his career
and then going into the league and him just playing

(05:16):
and me being like me being a fan of him
and the teams that he's on, and then like all
the way up to the point where we're playing him
last year and kind of the similar similar story with
Tom Brady, like run past him and I was kind
of like, Hey, what's up Russell Wilson, Like I can't
say it, Like I was just like not saying his name,
just Russ. I was like, what's up Russell Wilson because
that's like how I've seen him. But you know, from
that point on to like now we've we've developed, you know,

(05:39):
just like an acquaintance relationship.

Speaker 3 (05:40):
I see him in the locker room.

Speaker 2 (05:42):
He knows my face, which is cool, and I know
his face obviously, Uh, say what's up?

Speaker 3 (05:46):
And you know, ready to get this thing started.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
But yeah, it was cool facing him last year and
like going against a quarterback that's been in the league,
has seen defenses and you know, be able to give
him some trouble and yeah, just have a competitive time.

Speaker 3 (05:58):
Thanks, no problem. Sorry, hey John, how you doing good
on man?

Speaker 9 (06:04):
Good good? Along those lines, I know that the Russ
and Jamis both got up, you know, Coach Gable asked
them to get up and kind of tell their stories
and their journeys. Did you learn anything? I mean, you know,
both those guys who have been in the league. Did
you learn anything from listening to them? Though I didn't
know that about them something.

Speaker 2 (06:19):
Like that, Uh, I mean it was pretty brief, but
you know, just the basics of like the family and whatnot.
Obviously I didn't know specifics because I haven't been in
the room with them, but you could tell their personalities
just in the demeanor and how they spoke to the team.

Speaker 3 (06:31):
And especially especially Jamis.

Speaker 2 (06:33):
Like Jamis is obviously as everybody has seen as a character,
and so now being like in the locker room with
him and seeing him he's just a great dude, like
a great player, but an even better person, and so
it was. It was cool to just you know, see
their their charisma and speaking in front of the team.

Speaker 9 (06:49):
Is is it different when you know, as you're still
a young player, when when you have these older quarterbacks
get up this, they just carry themselves different.

Speaker 3 (06:56):
These veteran guys.

Speaker 2 (06:57):
I think, Yeah, I think I'm glad you said veteran god,
because I don't think it's quarterbacks. I think it's veterans
in general that just have like a calm presence, you know,
in the midst of new things and and changes, just.

Speaker 3 (07:07):
Because they've been around the block.

Speaker 2 (07:08):
They've known these things that they understand how to you know,
how to go about these things, and they have a
process to do so, so as somebody who was creeping
into that range of older player.

Speaker 3 (07:18):
Not to say I'm old at all because I'm only
twenty five, but I do.

Speaker 2 (07:22):
I do like to say, a man, you know, I'm
getting old, man just a little bit. Just your five
is not that long, but it's kind of long. It's
cool to see their process and try to like, you know,
mimicking some of the things that they have so that
I'm also feeling comfortable and can like you know, acclimate
to the environment as quickly as they do.

Speaker 3 (07:39):
Thank you.

Speaker 9 (07:39):
You're not creeping into anything, by the way.

Speaker 2 (07:43):
Now, yeah, running into people at full speed does age
your body a little bit, but I'll be alright, that's different.

Speaker 3 (07:48):
Thanks, no problem, Love fun.

Speaker 9 (07:50):
Brian.

Speaker 3 (07:52):
Aji Von, thanks for doing us.

Speaker 8 (07:56):
It's draft week.

Speaker 7 (07:57):
If memory serves, there was a lot of talk that
you were gonna be a first round pick.

Speaker 9 (08:02):
How did that?

Speaker 7 (08:03):
How did not going on day one kind of light
a fire for you going into your career.

Speaker 3 (08:09):
I was supposed to be a first round pick. Remember
hearing that. I'm want to be honest with that.

Speaker 9 (08:14):
Did Joe Shane?

Speaker 7 (08:15):
Did Joe Shane tell us like last week that the
Bills were gonna pick.

Speaker 3 (08:18):
You in the first round? That's news to me, Manu.

Speaker 2 (08:21):
So, I mean I I would love to have like
a motivating answer for you.

Speaker 3 (08:26):
That's just like, Wow, this guy is lighting the fire
under his ass.

Speaker 2 (08:28):
And he can go. But unfortunately I didn't know. I
didn't think I was going first round. I thought I
was going to like second round or something like that.

Speaker 3 (08:34):
I kind of had a feeling. So my agents were
just like, yo, think second day.

Speaker 2 (08:38):
If you go first day, that would be dope, but
pretty much second day, So I was like, all right, cool,
So I think I went around where I should have gone. Obviously,
there was like some speculation just because of like twenty
twenty I didn't play, but we've seen how that just
that didn't even matter. So yeah, there wasn't no like
I was supposed to go first round under that it
would have been cool, but nah, second round
