Speaker 1 (00:00):
For you just kind of first of all, how was
your bye week? You got to get away and relax
a little bit.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Yeah, that was great, went down the Sunday South Florida,
just took some time off, chilled, chill, kicked it with
the friend, with some friends, family, So it was a
good time.
Speaker 1 (00:14):
Awesome for you. I guess these last four weeks, I
guess how do you as a as a veteran just
kind of approach, you know, last four weeks. Obviously you
guys want to end up we stream, but how does
that lending change with the approach kind of with the
reset or is still the same vocals on this week,
take care of business, try to you know, trying to
tie a little bit.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
Yeah, I think you just re emphasized you know, uh
being want to know in the week, you know that's
starting off with recovery on you know today, yesterday, you know,
getting back right from the from the bye week, Wednesday, Thursday,
locking in on those days, Friday, details some things up. Saturday,
you know you should be just all mental preppinging. I
want to go one and on on Sunday. So I
think it's just you know, it stays, uh the same
(00:54):
as like in terms of what just like a one
of the mentality. You know, week by week, we can't
control anything to happen in the past anymore, so you
just focus on the week ahead of us and and
try to go one and o on a.
Speaker 1 (01:07):
On a different count that I know burns Brian Burgus,
not in your position, but just being around him as
a team mate.
Speaker 3 (01:13):
Just what do you see from.
Speaker 1 (01:14):
Him that makes him one such a good leader and
too makes him so great on the field, just from
what you've seen on that back end.
Speaker 4 (01:21):
Yeah, I think he just does the things that take
no talent.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
He does those things well, you know, the effort to
the ball, the you know, handling his process through weekend
and week out, you know, handling recovery and making sure
that he's on the job. Yeah, I think he just
handles the simple things very well and that allows him
to have a clear mind when he's out there playing.
And when you have a clear mind on the field,
you just reacting and you play your best. So I
think that's that what that's what gives him the advantage
(01:47):
a he you.
Speaker 1 (01:48):
Brian don leaby.
Speaker 5 (01:53):
H Javon, thanks for doing this no problem. When you
signed here, you talked about like coming here being part
of a winning culture. And I think that's every free
agent when they go to a new place, like they're
one of the things. Their way in besides the contract
is like where can I go and you know win?
It's the first time you have a say and where
you can go and win? So how much has this
(02:15):
come as a surprise to you to be where you are?
And how certain are you you guys can get this fixed.
Speaker 4 (02:22):
I'm very certain though, we can get this fixed.
Speaker 2 (02:24):
I mean, I feel like every year, you know, you
go through you know, different swings of adversity and you
have to fight those with you know, other forms of distractions.
But I think this year, you know, regardless of how
our record is, I feel like we've been in a
lot of games and you know, down to the wire,
and I'm confident that, you know, in these last four games,
we're gonna be able to you know, exemplify that we
(02:45):
can you know, we can win those games more close
and towards the end of the towards the end of
the fourth quarter, and you know, leading into next year
and and and just focusing on us being you know,
our best in those in those dire situations. I'm very
confident and and I think still to this day that
we have that.
Speaker 4 (03:02):
Ability to go out there and win.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
I just think that, uh, you know, the cards didn't
fall our way, and that just you know, what happens.
It's any given Sunday. So yeah, I'm not discouraging anything
like that. I mean when I said when I first
got here, and you know, I'm gonna continue to stand
by that, do you.
Speaker 5 (03:17):
It's interesting what you said about being in the games,
like is a loss a loss, Javon or when you know,
when you go home at the end of the season
or even last week on your bide week, when you
have perspective, is there more encouragement in the fact that
you're in a lot of games?
Speaker 3 (03:32):
Or is a loss?
Speaker 4 (03:33):
Or is to an eleven? Two and eleven?
Speaker 2 (03:35):
I mean two and eleven is still tough. But when
you watch the games, and especially playing in the games,
there has been moments where I'm like, man, we're right there,
you know what I mean, Like this one or two
plays that kind of you know, give the other team
the advantage to go and get the dub. And those
are lessons that we can learn from and that we're
you know, continuing to learn from uh, but I I yeah,
(03:56):
a loss is a loss, you know, through and through
two and eleven is two and eleven. We do have
to win those games, but we are learning a lot
from them, and it's you know, encouraging knowing that we're
in the game and we can we can play with
you know, whatever team that we go against. We just
have to figure out how to continue to put it
together throughout the whole course.
Speaker 4 (04:11):
Of the game. Thanks about no problem all Schwartz. Hey Javon,
how are you? How are you doing good? Now? You're
doing good? Good.
Speaker 6 (04:26):
I'm wondering.
Speaker 4 (04:27):
You're a guy.
Speaker 6 (04:28):
You know some of your teammates are probably going to
be in your position that you were in last year,
you know, four years with the team to draft you,
and then you move on into the open market and
you signed with a new team. Can you just think
back on that a little bit? Was this a tough time,
you know thinking about that last year? Am I going
to be here? Am I going to be back? And
if any of your teammates who might be in that
(04:50):
situation asked you about, you know, what might be coming
for them down the road?
Speaker 2 (04:54):
Are you talking about right now? Like with four games
left and I'm thinking about it last year.
Speaker 6 (04:58):
No, No, I'm not sure, not thinking of now. I'm
showing you know, last year at this time, you were
closing out, you know, you were you were getting ready
to end one chapter and begin another chapter, which you've
started with the Giants. Some other guys in your locker
room are probably going to be doing the same thing.
Is that a difficult thing for an athlete to think about?
And maybe you have some suggestions or recommendation to some
(05:21):
of your teammates about what they might be headed into.
Speaker 4 (05:24):
Uh, I don't.
Speaker 2 (05:26):
Last year, when I was in this point right now
during the season with four games left, there was no
thought of me going to another team. That was just
the thought of me finishing out the season. And I
feel like there's no one on this team that has
that thought process. I'm thinking about next year where they're
going to be at. Everybody's focused on where their feed are.
So when the offseason comes, I have all the advice
that they need, But right now, I don't got no
advice for them because I don't think anybody was going
(05:46):
to ask for that advice for real.
Speaker 6 (05:48):
And that that's a discipline that you believe athletes have.
Speaker 4 (05:51):
I mean you know.
Speaker 6 (05:52):
I mean, I always try to put myself in a
situation of somebody, even though I'm certainly not a player
like you are, and think, well, I don't know what
I'm going to be next year, and sometimes that just
goes into your head even though you don't want it to.
You're saying that you feel that discipline is such that
you're thinking about this week, and the play players mostly
don't think about it.
Speaker 3 (06:10):
I wonder where I'm gonna be next year.
Speaker 1 (06:12):
They're too disciplined for that, you think.
Speaker 4 (06:15):
Yep, that was a very disciplined final answer, Thank you, Yep,
that's the point. We'll take one more are Stapleton?
Speaker 1 (06:28):
What's up?
Speaker 3 (06:28):
Jefon? How you doing?
Speaker 4 (06:29):
Hey?
Speaker 3 (06:32):
Why do wins matter when you're two and eleven? Why
does it matter to you guys to go out there
on Sunday and win? I know it's about doing a job.
I know you're a professional, but what is it about
winning a game? What does that mean to you and
to this team?
Speaker 2 (06:47):
I just hate losing. I'm a competitor, so winning is
what I want to do. I don't want to lose.
I don't care if it's for anything. I played this
game for fun. I happen to get compensated for it,
which is great for me and my family. But I
play the game for fun and I want to win
because winning is fun. So that's what winning means to me.
Speaker 4 (07:06):
Are you good?
Speaker 3 (07:09):
Do you think that?
Speaker 4 (07:10):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (07:10):
That gets lost sometimes when all the focuses I mean, look,
everybody wants to win championships and win divisions and you know,
win a lot of games in this league. But when
you get to a point there's only a small group
of people who are actually still playing for that this
late in the season. Does it get lost some time?
Do you have to remind yourself of why you play
(07:31):
the game as a team collectively? Maybe not necessarily you
as an individual.
Speaker 4 (07:36):
That's a good question. I don't.
Speaker 2 (07:37):
I don't necessarily think you know, you have to remind people,
you know, why why we play the game and whatnot.
I think the people who end up winning championships they
realize that looking at the championship game is not where
your focus needs to be because you have to win
the next game in order to get to the championship.
So if you just focus on the next game and like,
(07:59):
then that's like the only way that you can step
forward and move forward. Throughout the postseason later in the
season December football. Yeah, if that answers your question, I
really don't. Like, I really don't, because, like, if you
focus on electroninga win championship, obviously that's the overall goal, right,
but like, you can't get to the championship if you
don't win the next game run in front of you,
and if you overlook the front the next game in
front of you, then that's how you know, teams take
(08:19):
advantage of you, or you know, there's been plenty of
times when a team has a bad record and then
a really good team plays them, and then the bad team,
the bad record or the bad team so quote unquote
beats the good team and it's.
Speaker 4 (08:29):
Like all these guys were overlooked, YadA, YadA, YadA.
Speaker 2 (08:31):
But a lot of the time that's not the case,
like teams are just focused on winning the next game,
regardless of their record.
Speaker 4 (08:36):
So gotcha cool?
Speaker 3 (08:37):
Yeah, thanks, appreciate.
Speaker 2 (08:39):
It, No problem, man, We'll take one more quick one
from dun't leaby go ahead, Ryan.
Speaker 7 (08:45):
Jevon, I was just wondering the last time you guys
played Washington, the outside build up was like huge measuring
test for the Giants against the you know, NFC Championship
Game participation participants.
Speaker 5 (08:59):
Is this a reminder year for everybody that it's such
a year to year league. Is it even a reminder
for players that it's such a team's bats can flip.
Speaker 4 (09:07):
From one year to the next.
Speaker 2 (09:10):
Not not really, No, I mean it's it's you know,
it's the next game, so it's important. But I don't
think that's you know, the outside build up is kind
of what I was focused on in your in your question,
and I feel like like I don't really care what
the outside build up is.
Speaker 5 (09:23):
It's Washington's fate of going from like NFC Championship game
to I don't know, I think they're three and ten
or whatever. So like it's just shows you, like how
much things can change from one year.
Speaker 4 (09:36):
To the next. Yeah, yeah, absolutely absolutely.
Speaker 2 (09:38):
I mean, you know, their quarterback went down, they had
some some things going on. Saying with us, you know,
our quarterback had gone down a little bit, we got
some guys banged up, So like it's literally it happens
like every year. You never know when it's going to happen,
or you just kind of got to take the crookeds
with the strakes
