Speaker 1 (00:00):
Just I mean, I'm sure everyone has a ton of questions.
What what?

Speaker 2 (00:03):
How did you.

Speaker 3 (00:04):
Balance the the thought of, you know what, maybe is
change of scenery is good for me versus I want to.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Come back to the giants.

Speaker 4 (00:14):
Yeah, I mean, I think that's kind of what fregency
is all about. It gives you a chance to sit
back and reflect and be able to look at, you know,
what other opportunities you have out there and look at
other teams as well as evaluate the team and the
organization that you're already a part of that I've been
a part of for some time. But you know, I
obviously do this process. I ended up, you know, here

(00:34):
a giant. You know, I'm happy, happy to still be
a giant.

Speaker 3 (00:37):
Did you ever waver with that that, you know what,
somebody else looks pretty good out there?

Speaker 4 (00:42):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (00:42):
Of course.

Speaker 4 (00:43):
Like I said, I mean, I think free agency, that's
what it's about. You know, you have other teams that
you know, show interest, and you look at those situations
and you know, you try to weigh the two things.
And you know, obviously, after I got done waiting them all,
you know, I decided to remain a giant.

Speaker 5 (00:56):
Thank you, Dan Duggan, Hey, theres and you know, you
can't repeat as a good guy winners, So hopefully that doesn't.

Speaker 2 (01:04):
Change your opinion.

Speaker 4 (01:04):
Yeah, but not good to have you back.

Speaker 5 (01:08):
I'm just curious. Obviously you're coming back to the team
without a number one quarterback right now and sign obviously
with that knowledge, what did they tell you at that
time about their plan?

Speaker 4 (01:17):
Yeah, I mean obviously in fur agency, you know that's
it's pretty important first ever, is to know who's going
to be throwing the ball. So you know, me, Dave's
and Joe had those discussions, and you know, I believe
in the vision that they have and the planet they have,
and that they're going to get somebody in here that
is going to be able to spin in and be
able to lead us in the right direction.

Speaker 5 (01:36):
And now that you are, you know back, are you
going to be doing any recruiting? I mean, obviously I
know that you know, Russell Wilson be visiting. What would
your pitch be to a quarterback? And then how are
you going to be involved in that process?

Speaker 4 (01:46):
I would love to if they want to be a
part of it, whoever it might be, you know, I'd
love to be a part of that process. Obviously, I'm
all about getting any any good football players here, but
I'm certainly about getting good football is payer here that
throw me the ball. So you know, whatever I can
do to to help that in issue, you know, I'll
be a part of. And honestly I would just you know,
I'll just tell him. Look, we got a lot of
young talented players, specifically pass catchers. I think we're a

(02:09):
very quarterback friendly unit, you know, And I think for
for a veteran quarterback or for a young quarterback, either way,
you'd be coming into a good situation, full of good players.
And we got two great tackles, so you're safe. Our
left tackles one of the best in the league, our
right tackles one of the best right tackles in the league.
You're safe. You got weapons, you know. I think any
quarterback should to look at this situation as you know,

(02:31):
the sky's limit, right, Thanks going back, appreciate.

Speaker 5 (02:35):
It, Hot Leonard Hey Sligh, what would it?

Speaker 1 (02:40):
What do you think makes Russell Wilson a good quarterback?

Speaker 2 (02:45):
And you know what would be the advantages of playing
with him as a wide receiver?

Speaker 4 (02:49):
Yeah, well sofishly, I think he's been career noted as
having a great deep ball, so I love that, of course,
But other than that, you know, he's somebody who want
in this league. He's played well in this league for
a long time, played well last year for the Steelers,
so you know, clearly he still got gas in the tank.
And if he's who we were to bring whoever we

(03:10):
are to bring in here, you know we'll embrace him
and do our best rally around him.

Speaker 6 (03:14):
Are you following the the minute to minute of these
quarterback decisions like everybody else's.

Speaker 2 (03:20):
Are you seeing the pictures on the beach and help stuff?

Speaker 6 (03:23):
Is that?

Speaker 2 (03:24):
Is it something that's on your phone like minute a
minute here?

Speaker 4 (03:26):
Yeah, I mean I don't have no occasions on, but
I mean he kind of can't get on Twitter or
Instagram without seeing the updates. So you know, I see him,
and you know I follow him. But you know, at
the end of the day, like I said, I don't
make the decision for who, you know, who becomes the guy,
but I do to make a decision of being able
to support the guy and play the best of my
ability for the guy when whoever he is gets here.

Speaker 3 (03:44):
I said, we're gonna look into changing the good guy rules.

Speaker 4 (03:48):
Hey, it's the first time for everything. You know, hey,
why not?

Speaker 7 (03:51):
You know, why not?

Speaker 3 (03:54):
I'm just curious when when the news came out that
you were resigning. I mean, I'll speak for myself, would
shock not not that it was a bad thing. I
think it was a positive thing for you throughout this process?
How did you ride the wave of emotions, the idea
of I'm going to be back, I'm not going to
be back. I know it's natural for free agency before,

(04:15):
but were you surprised at all that the reaction from
people who knew you and around the league was, Man,
I can't believe Slaton's resigning with the Giants.

Speaker 4 (04:25):
Yeah, I mean I figured it would be that way,
you know, if I did decide to come back here,
And I understand why people would be surprised. But you know,
at the end of the day, you know, I've enjoyed
my six years here as a Giant. I've enjoyed my
teammates here, I enjoyed working with the people in this building.
So you know, obviously we haven't won as many games

(04:46):
I would have liked and all that type of thing,
but you know, I believe that we are capable of
winning more games in the future, and honestly, other other
than that, I really couldn't tell you much bad about
my experience of a Giant. So really, if we just
you know, when we get this thing going in the
right direction, we start winning. I really couldn't tell you
a bad thing about this place. So, you know, I

(05:06):
understand how from a football perspective and all of that,
people could get there. But like I said, you know,
I evaluated the other situations that were out there, and
from both the football and a life perspective, you know,
I felt like remaining a Giant was still, you know,
the best option for me.

Speaker 3 (05:19):
You find yourself as a pitchman. I know you made
a pitch before you know about the quarterback, and why
would guys come here? You know, there was this feeling
going at the free agency of looking at the bigger picture,
and you know, all guys around the league see the
Giants as a last resort. Why why shouldn't this be
viewed as a last resort Because you're a guy who
lived through the bad times that were supposed to chase

(05:42):
guys away, yet you welcomed coming back.

Speaker 4 (05:45):
Yeah, I think because you know, when you're when you're
a part of an organization like the Giants storied, that's established.
You know, your your ceiling for your career is so
high here. You know, like this this off season, we
signed you know, pauls Nadibo, Javon Holland, you know, two
big time you know, defensive back signings. And just if

(06:07):
you're if you're a guy like that, if you think
about it, you know, he came from the Saints, he
came from the Dolphins. They're both really good football players.
But you know, relatively you know, underrated in the league.
Like you know, they're better football players what people probably
give them credit for. But if they come out here
this year and they have a great year for the Giants,
they become top five names in their position, you know,
And that's just kind of that's just kind of the
reality of playing for the Giants and having this you guys,

(06:29):
media behind you and having all that behind you. And
I think anytime you can't understate that, you know, because
that helps add longevity to your career. It helps add
you know, money to your pocket, where that be in
marketing or whatever. So I think the Giants is always
going to be an attractive place to come and also
it's a great football place, you know, there's people in
this building that love football, that care about football. Obviously,
mister Marra owns the Team's got football in his blood

(06:51):
in DNA. And at the end of the day, if you're
a football player, you want to be around football people.

Speaker 3 (06:55):
Thanks said, sure, we'll take four more.

Speaker 2 (06:58):
Patty Trina, Hey, Darius, welcome back.

Speaker 4 (07:02):
Thank you, nice to be back.

Speaker 2 (07:04):
Nice to have you back. Darious. You said before that,
you know, when you rested up the quarterback situation and
that being unsettled, how much of your decision weighed in
your familiarity with the offense, your belief in the offense,
and what this offense can eventually be.

Speaker 4 (07:20):
A lot, you know, I think it's kind of like
when people say, you know the devil you know versus
the one you don't you know. And I feel like,
you know, we have a good offense here. Like I said,
we have a lot of talent around around me, you know,
in the receiving room. My running backs are really talented.
And I think up front, we've gotten a lot better
up front. And like I said, right now, you know,
obviously we're trying to fill that quarterback hole. But I

(07:44):
think when you just look at it, you know, we
have a lot of potential, and obviously potential doesn't win
you any games, but it certainly helps. You know, there's
there's other times where where your potential is low, you know,
or your roster's not as good, So you know, I think,
you know, those things may make it attracted to be
And then you know.

Speaker 2 (08:01):
Last year, of course was your first year with Elite
coming in. Can you just talk about the potential growth
of this receiver group of league yourself, Wandell Jalen and
you know just what, you guys haven't hit the ceiling yet. Yeah,
what do you see as being like the next logical
step for you guys as far as your growth goes.

Speaker 4 (08:22):
Honestly, I think becoming one of the better, you know,
one of the better receiver units in the league. You know,
I think I think we definitely have the ability to
be in that echelon and considered, you know, one of
the best receiving units in the NFL. And obviously, you know,
you got to have somebody, you know, get it to
you to get there. But you know, I think that's
that's something that I don't take for granted. You know,

(08:43):
I love the guys in the room on Dale Jalen Malik,
even some of the other guys we had on mirror,
you know, some of the DFA guys. We had a
lot of young guys, a lot of a lot of
just good people to be around, Bryce Ford Wheaton. So
you know, I'm excited to be back in room with
those guys and I had a lot of fun with
them last year and looking forward to the years to
come with them.

Speaker 2 (09:00):
Thanksious, of course, Brian dunleyby.

Speaker 1 (09:11):
Hey Darius, thanks.

Speaker 2 (09:12):
For doing this.

Speaker 4 (09:13):
Yeah, of course.

Speaker 2 (09:14):
Have you had a.

Speaker 1 (09:15):
Chance to look at when once you were signed. One
of the first things I did was look at like
the Giants record book and like, if you're really going
to be here another three years, that we're got to
start talking about legacy. You could actually be like second
to a Moni tumor in Giants' receiving yards with three
of your you know, standard seasons. Have you thought about
that at all? Did you think of at all about

(09:36):
you know, where you could be as far as the
Giants all timer.

Speaker 4 (09:40):
Yeah, honestly, I hadn't thought of it, but somebody sent
it to me and it almost didn't even read right
in my head. I was like, dang, I didn't think
I didn't realized you know, it's actually, you know, something
that was that attainable. You know, I felt like Amni
Tumor's numbers was like way over there and feel it,
you know, Pennsylvania or something. But uh, you know, I
mean it's definitely some then you know that'd be cool.

(10:01):
You know, I think anybody wants to end their career
and feel like they left an impact on wherever they
played for and and have a you know, a positive
memory of them wherever they played. So obviously, you know,
for my my next three years, you know, I'm gonna
do my best to play my best and lead fans
with a positive memory of Darius Slaton in their mind.

Speaker 1 (10:17):
And then you answered Aaron, you answered Russell Wilson. So
I'll ask Aaron Rodgers, what about the thought of playing
with you know, maybe the best quarterback this side of
Tom Brady in this generation.

Speaker 4 (10:28):
Yeah, I mean I personally, you know, I think Aaron
Rodgers is probably the greatest quarterback to ever just pure
thrower of the ball to ever play football. You know,
So I have a ton of respect for him, and
you know, I know whatever, Obviously, everybody loves to in
this league, you know, once you get a little older,
they all it happens to everybody and they're like, oh,
he doesn't got anymore or whatever. But you know, I
think Aaron Rodgers has shown that he can still spin it.

(10:49):
And you know, obviously, like I said, I think we
have all the tools to make a quarterback like him
or any veteran or rookie successful. So you know, obviously
if we get them, you know, I would love to
play with. It's not very often is league you get
a chance to play with a Hall of Fame all
time quarterback. I had the pleasure of playing with one
my rookie year, and you know, I think being able
to play with two in a in a career is

(11:10):
definitely definitely not a blessing that I you know, under
could understate.

Speaker 2 (11:16):
Thanks Darius Evan Barnes.

Speaker 7 (11:21):
Here's how's it going, man?

Speaker 4 (11:23):
Good? Are you good?

Speaker 2 (11:24):
Good? Just about the contract?

Speaker 7 (11:26):
Obviously you know pass issues, you know the issues as
far as you know, the pay cut and you not
playing in workouts I believe last year. Just what does
that security mean for you to have that security to
know that you can just focus on ball and that's
something that's not going to be a concern for you, going.

Speaker 4 (11:42):
Forward means a lot, seeing how I spent six years
not on this side of the coin, you know, so, uh,
you know, it definitely means a lot. You know, honestly,
the first thing comes to mind when I think about
the family. No, I have an organization. You know, my
mom runs, and you know a couple other people that
run and they help, and they touched so many lives,

(12:04):
you know, over this over the past four to five years.
And you know, obviously, you know, the more money I make,
the more money we have to give. So you know,
on my head, you know, we just doubled our ability
to to reach people and touch people. And you know,
I think anybody in my situation or anybody even if
you just just made it to leap for the first time,
you know, I think it's important that once you get

(12:25):
the ability to reach out and help, you should help
and you should do your best to the best very
ability to support people that need your support. So, you know, obviously,
as far as the money aspect goes, you know, that's
the that's kind of the biggest thing. Obviously, you know,
I want to I want to live with a nice
quality of life, and I've done playing football, But uh,
you know, that's that's definitely something that's really important to me.

Speaker 2 (12:47):
Thanks last one, Tom Rock Darius.

Speaker 6 (12:52):
Well, we all know the numbers from last year, the rankings,
the offensive the offensive production and and and everything that
needed to get better.

Speaker 2 (13:00):
This is a team that brought that.

Speaker 6 (13:01):
It's brought back most of its offensive coaching staff in
the same positions. You're gonna have ten of eleven returning
starters probably. I know there's still time is free agency
here in the draft to company you know, it's just
that it's just that one quarterback. What made you look
at last year and say we are a quarterback away

(13:21):
from being successful.

Speaker 4 (13:24):
I think I think the fact that we still we
still played some competitive games, you know, and we were
still closing some games. In this league, you know, you're
you're typically you know, you're typically a player, a player
two or three away. You know, even even if a
score maybe might end up being a three score game,
you're typically a player two or three away from it
being a close game or from you being a win.

(13:45):
And a lot of times, you know, oftentimes there's too
much blame place on a quarterback, and sometimes there's too
much credit place on a quarterback. But at the end
of the day, they do touch the ball the most.
So you know, if you find yourself in the situations
as a team, you the belief is that you know,
if you get somebody back there and they they make
the right decisions, you know on a consistent basis that
you know the wins will come. So yeah, m m
