(01:33):
Dean, how you feeling today?
I'm doing fine. Thank you somuch for having me here. That is
amazing.
That is amazing. Y'all. She issuch a special woman in my life,
and hopefully tonight, you willbe inspired and encouraged, as I
have been and will continue tobe as well. So get this show

(01:54):
started. Who has been asignificant spiritual influence
and how they impacted yourjourney,
as I was thinking about that, that question, my mind went back
to two people that were in mypast. The first person was my
father. Although there were 13siblings, well, 13 children in

(02:15):
our family, plus a cousin andone of my nephews that my father
raised, he took quality time outwith all 13 of his children plus
the extended family, and taughtus lifelong values. However, in
1977 and 1978 My parents passedaway, respectively in those

(02:40):
years. And another mother,Mother Maxine Robinson and her
husband, came into my life, andthey continued to guide, to pray
with me, to lead and guide me,until I became an independent
adult and began to follow theguidance of the Holy Spirit. And
so those two people have beenvery impactful in my life.

(03:03):
That's amazing. So you mentionedthat they they led you and
covered you in prayer. Can youtalk about how significant that
in particular was, or howimpactful that was for you?
Well, growing up in the early50s, 60s and 70s, it was a
challenging time growing up on acamp, and there were some

(03:25):
dangers, seen and unseendangers, and the prayers that my
father and mother sent, set upeach day covered us until we
were able to come to theknowledge and understanding of
independent life and of God, andthrough their prayers, I am here
today after 71 years. Wow. I'mgrateful for for their impact

(03:50):
upon my life that isamazing. Okay,
now tell us about the moment ortime when God called you to step
into your purpose, and then howdid you respond? Well,
I really did not pinpoint anexact time. However, when I
first after we moved to Belgium,to the city, part of Belle

(04:13):
Glade, I started attending thechurch that I presently attend,
but I did not have that root andground in Jesus Christ like I
have. And so after my parentspassing, I began to wonder back
and forth, and did not reallyhave a purpose and a plan for

(04:34):
life. But after I began to seekthe face of the Lord in July in
1980 then he filled me with theHoly Spirit, and then he pointed
me toward the purpose and planthat he had for my life. And I
have been following that everyever since, and I also have my
my second oldest sister, becausehe planted teaching in my heart.

(05:00):
It she was pursuing that samecareer and professional pathway,
and so he told me to just walkin her footsteps. And she and I
have been we did all everythingtogether, and we and we walked
through the teaching professiontogether, and we supported one

(05:21):
another. Thatis phenomenal. Just to have a
sibling that you just werealready close to, just because
that's your sibling, but in thesame career path that you that
you know, that the Lord sent youon, it just even more
comforting. And, you know,special, absolutely.

(05:42):
Alright. So what is yourfavorite Bible verse of passage
that helps you stay encouragedduring challenging times? And
how does that look in action?
Well, there, it really dependson the situation or circumstance
that I find myself in, but as Iwas reflecting over that,
sometimes I don't sleep atnight. And there is a Bible

(06:02):
verse. I don't know exactly whenI ran across that Bible verse,
But sometime in in the past, andthat is Psalm four, eight, when
I can't sleep at night, I recitethat. That verse, I'm sorry,
that verse, and it helps me tocalm myself down and to get rid
of those anxieties that keep meawake at night, and also Hebrew

(06:25):
13 five that says I would neverleave or forsake you. It doesn't
matter how dark the path may be,what trouble I may find myself
in, what situation I'm in, Iwill always know and understand
that God is always with me tobring me through. It may get
dark, but God is going to bringme through to the other side of

(06:46):
my struggles.
That's so encouraging. That isso encouraging. So the Okay, so
this you said, Psalm, what?
Again, 34 Psalmfour, four and eight, four, and
then Hebrew 13 and five.
Alright,I'm going to make sure that
I leave those in the show notes, guys for everybody that is

(07:10):
looking for. Alright, that'samazing. So how do you navigate
moments of doubt or questioningin your relationship with God?
Whenever I'm troubled in myspirit. God leads me to my
songbook, my hymn book, andsometimes I may sing for two or
three days until my mind issettled. Wow. And there were,

(07:32):
there was a time as the personaltestimony in 1998 I was put on
the extreme list for thepossibility of developing breast
cancer, and I did not actuallydevelop breast cancer in they
diagnosed me in the year 2020,and I was a little bit troubled

(07:57):
about that, but God reminded methat he had been with me from
1998 all the way into that, thatpresent time, and because he was
there with me, then he would bewith me now, and God has lifted
my spirit. And most of the timewhen I, you know, start feeling
a little anxious, I just get mysong book and I start singing

(08:19):
those songs of promises that hehas allowed my father to teach
me many of those songs and somesongs that I just learned to
pick up along the way, and so Ising myself back to Joy and
happiness and encouragement thatis amazing. I don't think I've
ever heard somebody respond toGod with, I mean, to troubles,

(08:42):
to God with song that is souplifting. And it's, you know, I
know the verse that says Godthat happens to praise of His
people. So it's just usheringhis, his literal presence in
your atmosphere. And doesn'tmatter, like you said, doesn't
matter how long it takes, you'regoing to stay there and and in a
sense, make him be with you.

(09:05):
Make him comfort you in thosetimes of trouble. So that's that
is amazing. So for somebody asmyself who didn't grow up in the
church, especially like withhymns, do you have any hymns
that you recommend?
Oh, my goodness, I have so manyhymns

(09:26):
that I know, but keeping in inline with what you just asked
me, the song says, I'm neveralong. I've seen the lightning
flashes. I've heard that fromthe roll. I've seen sin break,
sin breakers dashing, trying tocomfort my soul, but I know that

(09:46):
I I'm never, ever, although hepromised never to leave me
alone, and so those arecomforting words for me. Oh,
wow,that's awesome. Okay, so it.
Kindof transitions perfectly to this
next question. So overall, howwould you say you stay calm when
balancing everythingI do over the years, I learned

(10:08):
how to to speak calm, first ofall, of all, to myself, and then
when I was in the classroomteaching young people, mostly
kindergarten, first, second, third, and then even a couple of
years a pre kindergartenstudents, I learned that if you
get anxious and and begin toaccelerate your voice tone, that

(10:34):
would be the exact same thingthat they would do. And so God
taught me how to speak in acalming voice so that those that
I taught could be calm as well.
And one day, I was asking mydoctor about some of the
situations that we face as asseasoning. I don't call it

(10:58):
aging, but seasoned women, andhe told me that I would not have
the difficulties that many otherwomen have because of my calm
attitude. And so it was justsomething that I developed over
the years. And my father was waslike that. My mother, she would
stand her ground, was calm andsoothing. And I think I

(11:22):
inherited many of his traits.
Okay, I was, I was going to ask,Was there someone in particular
that kind of subconsciously justpushed you in that direction?
So, okay, it was your father.
I emulated him, okay, many ofhis characteristics. Oh, that's
so beautiful. Ihope I can say the same about my
daughter one day and I presentsomeone suitable for her to

(11:49):
absolutelyalright. So can you share an
example of how God turned afailure or set back into
something good in your life?
Let's see many, many years ago,I was in a deep state of
depression, because there were, there was a time in as I as I

(12:12):
said before, I have not alwaysbeen calm. I would allow some
situations that I observed andsome things that went on in my
life that caused me to fall intoa deep state of depression, and
thoughts of retribution andrevenge came to my mind, but God
assured me that he was myAvenger, and so I allowed some

(12:36):
situations to just Go on. Ibecame a doormat in some
situations, and some of myfamily members wanted to defend
me, but I said, No, God is mydefender. And so through many,
many years of prayersupplication before God, God
allowed those situations to workout, and those that caused that

(13:00):
deep depression, and eventuallycame around, and we begin to
have a relationship once again,to the point where our
disagreements and our dislikefor one another subsided, and we
became friends all the way tothe point of their demise. And

(13:22):
so God is faithful to his words.
He is our defender, and heturned that very difficult
situation into a testimony forme.
So during that, during thosetimes, would you just say it was
just your commitment to yourfaith that kept you in line like

(13:43):
that. Or what would you say? Oh,you know, in the tougher times,
I would say it was that theguidance of and my submission to
the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
Because, you know, we we live inthe flesh, and sometimes we
think in the flesh, yes, yes.
But because of the difficultiesthat I was going through, I knew

(14:05):
that if I had followed theflesh, I would have been in deep
trouble. I bowed myself andsurrendered to the guidance of
the Holy Spirit. Went through avery, very difficult time, but
in following the guidance of theHoly Spirit, and knowing that I
was no better than Jesus whenthey crucified Him on the cross

(14:27):
for my sin, and that I submittedmyself to some very horrendous,
horrendous things, but when Ithought about what Jesus went
through for me, then it helpedme to walk through that dark
valley, in those dark tunnel, tunnels of just of duress and
stress and disappointment andall of that into that until I

(14:49):
saw the light at the end of thatdark tunnel.
No, that's encouraging. That wasa beautiful testimony. Just
always looking back towards.
Across and seeing the innocentlamb slain up there. And when
you just said that, that helpsme at times, but plenty times
too. So that's encouraging thatto hear that you you do the

(15:13):
same, and you've been doingthat. So, you know, kind of
comforting to me, like, Okay,I'm on the right path, because
that helps me when I feel likethere's something set back, or
just something's really out ofline. Alright, Lord, you know
you, you experience way worse.
And I know at the end of theday, your word says you you got

(15:36):
me, and I believe in it, and youhaven't failed me yet. So I
continue on so that that'sthat's encouraging. II, thank
you. So before we end today'spodcast, is there anything that
you would like to share with theaudience, any encouraging words
or anything of that nature?
Well, I also wrote down Isaiah, the 26th chapter, verse three,

(16:01):
and it says, Thou, thou wiltkeep him in perfect peace, whose
mind is stayed on thee becausehe trusted in thee. And it is a
battle, especially in thispolitical atmosphere that we are
in, to keep my mind stayed onhim. And there are so many

(16:23):
people that are that are goingthrough some some mental battles
and and some things that aregoing on in their lives and, and
I try to encourage them to keep, you know, to focus their mind,
because as long as you focus onthe things that you're going
through, that peace is going toevade you, and so we have to

(16:44):
battle for keeping our mindstayed on Jesus Christ,
especially in this politicalclimate that we are in today,
because so many people say, youknow, I'm not sure as to what
tomorrow will bring to them whenyou know, as life continues to
move on. But God's word isfaithful to our faithfulness.

(17:09):
And therefore if we keep ourminds and our hearts Stay on
him, he will bring us throughthese challenging times. And so
we encourage everybody to you,do not have a relationship with
Jesus Christ now is the time todo it, because He will never
leave or forsake those whoseminds are stayed on him,

(17:34):
smiling ear to ear right now.
Oh, that was so comforting. Thatis so comforting. Uh, guys like
she said, if you have notreceived him, please reach out
to me. I'll make sure my contactis in the show notes, or and go
to a local church. Or if youhave somebody that God has been
leading to to talk to and call, please do it now. We do not know

(17:57):
what tomorrow may bring. Wedon't know what the next hour
may bring so let's not take lifefor granted and surrender. It is
the most freeing thing that youcan do. It is the most rewarding
thing that you can do, and itwas what you were meant to do.
So I just encourage you tofollow that, that pulling, that

(18:18):
drawing, that pushing right nowin Jesus name, yes, man,
amen. And if anyone would liketo have one of, one of those
books that you mentioned, thenew converts manual, to assist
new believers in their beginningtheir walk with Christ, I do
have some that I can do Nate andalso reflections of the heart

(18:41):
that is amazing. So yes, guys, Iwill make sure there's a link in
some in the show notes today soyou can get your copy. Just hit
me up and we will make thatwork. So we, thank you Miss
Geraldine Russell for stoppingby to give it your all today.
