Angel Marie (00:00):
I wanna talk about something today that is not

(00:02):
talked about too much, especially in the online
entrepreneurial space.
And that topic is God versus thealgorithm.
Yep.
We're diving into it.
We all know what I mean when Isay the algorithm right.
Social media algorithm, howbasically an online platform

(00:23):
works in showing your content topeople, how it works, in what
type of content, seems to workwell over others, and pushing it
out to the right people.
How to grow your following, whatworks on that specific platform.
That is what I am referring to.
By definition, an algorithmmeans a set of rules to follow,

(00:46):
to help you provide a solutionto a problem that is the
algorithm.
So if we're talking about, forexample, Instagram algorithm,
Facebook algorithm, TikTokalgorithm, LinkedIn algorithm,
whatever it is, there arespecific things that you can do
AKA rules to follow in order tomake the platform work in your
favor when it comes to growingyour following, engagement, all

(01:09):
that stuff.
But as entrepreneurs trying tobuild.
Any brand in the online space,we can intentionally become so
obsessed with the algorithmbecause we are just looking to
grow.
We want our brand to be more outthere to people.
We want people to see our stuffand our content and how we wanna

(01:32):
help them with our products andour services and what we talk
about.
We wanna become known.
So because of that and becausethe algorithm working in your
favor leads to growth andtherefore can lead to success in
your business as anentrepreneur.
Because of that, we tend toobsess over that versus
remaining focused on the missionthat God has called us to, no

(01:54):
matter the algorithm, no matterthe follower count, no matter
the engagement that youcurrently have.
And I think God and thealgorithm can almost be in a
competition when they shouldnever be.
You are focused so heavily onwhat works for the algorithm.
Rather than just focusing soheavily on being obedient in

(02:16):
what God is calling you to do inthe online space, on social
media, making an impact, whathe's calling you to do, to talk
about, to say, to plant a seed,to show up as a light, despite
the algorithm, despite livingby.
This tech rule book and insteadleaning into God's guidance.

(02:37):
I am telling you when it comesto God and business, he can be
the center of everything heshould be.
Even when it comes to somethingas simple or normal as social
media algorithm.
We can challenge ourselves asentrepreneurs who do want to
build an online brand, but asentrepreneurs who are also

(03:01):
Christian, also wanting tofollow God, also wanting to make
him the center of everythingthat we do.
We can go about both.
But we need to be mindful of howwe go about that so that we're
not overly obsessing about thenumbers.
We're not overly obsessing aboutour status online and therefore
trying to force the algorithm towork in our favor.
Instead, we're trusting God,we're showing up in what God

(03:24):
wants us to do and what he wantsus to talk about and how he
wants us to plant a seed andmake an impact to people.
And trusting him to work thealgorithm for us based on who he
sends our way.
This is how I see it.
It is a fact that God will giveyou what you can handle.

(03:44):
It literally says in oneCorinthians 10 13, God is
faithful.
He will not let you be testedbeyond your strength.
There's a lot of depths to thatwhen it comes to temptation,
when it comes to going againstGod's will and not being tempted
to do that.
But this also refers to thesimple fact that God gives you

(04:05):
what He knows you can handle.
He will not test you beyond yourcurrent ability, beyond your
current strength.
So even though it feels like youcan't handle something, God is
entrusting you to be able tohandle it because he's never
going to go beyond your abilityto not handle it.
And even if you were to gobeyond your ability to not
handle something, that is whereGod steps in.

(04:25):
Okay, now I want to take this.
And attach it to something likethe social media algorithm.
God will give you what you canhandle.
I believe that that also refersto something as simple or as
markety as your social mediafollowing.
If you have 10 people followingyou.

(04:47):
God is saying that's what youcan handle.
If you have a thousand people,God is saying that's what you
can handle if you have 20,000, amillion.
God is trusting you to handlethose people that are following
you.
Now let me be clear.
I'm speaking in terms of youbeing a follower of Jesus, okay?
When you are a follower ofJesus, you go his way.

(05:09):
You obey God's calling for yourlife.
God's hands can be on absolutelyeverything.
He will show up everywhere.
You will see him in it all.
If you open your eyes and if yousee things from his perspective.
So yes, the algorithm can getyou those 10 people, a hundred
thousand people, a millionpeople, however much it is,

(05:31):
right, based on you putting outgood content on social media, in
relation to your business andtrying to build your brand that
way.
However, when you follow Jesus.
You should not see that followercount as a number, as a
self-centered way of you beingthe spotlight.

(05:52):
People are following you whennow you are the leader and you
are the influence.
Your perspective should changewhere people are following you
because you are intentionallymaking impacts that ultimately
bring glory to God.
And this could mean in the mostbold way when it comes to you
being extremely bold and bluntand to the point.

(06:15):
Of spreading God's word, spreading the gospel through
your industry and what you talkabout.
Or maybe it's more subtle andyou're more so shining the
light, shining thecharacteristics of Jesus in your
industry, even though you maynot be as bold or biblical in
what you talk about or thecontent that you put out there.
I have seen God work throughdifferent kinds of entrepreneurs

(06:38):
in different ways that are bothChrist-centered, their
approaches, their callings, whatthey talk about, how they talk
about it online is justdifferent.
My point is that.
No matter what industry you arein, no matter how you show up in
the online space, when God callsyou to entrepreneurship, he's
calling you to be a leader.

(06:59):
Entrepreneurship is not aboutself.
It can feel a lot like that, especially on social media when
we're growing our following andbuilding our own status.
It's really easy to get caughtup in that, and I found myself
getting caught up in that manytimes.
We have to remember that thefocus in being called to
entrepreneurship is to be aleader to people that need it,

(07:22):
to make an impact to people thatneed it to shine Jesus's light
through us in what he's callingus to do and how he's calling us
to do it.
So if Jesus is entrusting youwith the skill.
With the calling ofentrepreneurship and a part of
entrepreneurship is showing upon social media, then your goal

(07:45):
isn't just about having thealgorithm work for you so that
you can grow your following.
Your goal is yes, to understandhow the algorithm works,
understand these platforms, understand the content to put
out, but ultimately what you aresaying in that content, who is
seeing that content?
And how your brand grows overtime from the similar pieces of

(08:07):
content that you put up.
You are trusting that to God andno matter the speed of growth,
whether how small or how fastyou view that as God trusting
you to handle that specificnumber of people, whether it be
10 or a million.
And when I say handle, I simplymean stewarding it.

(08:27):
Well, you have the strength toshow up for those people.
You have the ability to bepersistent in making a
difference in their lives.
I'm not saying you need to postevery day and become overly
obsessed with social mediabecause God entrusted you with
this following.
That's not what I'm saying.
You need to set boundaries, andyou definitely should never,

(08:49):
ever make social media an idol, which is easy to do when you're
finding yourself scrolling allthe time in your free time.
I am simply saying that if Godtrusted you with 10 people.
On your social media accounts, but you're embarrassed and you
feel insecure that your accountisn't growing, so then you just
stop showing up for those 10people.

(09:10):
You have to ask yourself, am Ireally stewarding those 10
people?
Well, am I really managing well?
The people, even though it'sjust a number on a place like
Instagram, those are actualpeople for the most part, rather
than a few bots in there.
Those are actual people.
You need to ask yourself, isthat good stewardship over those
people?
And let's say you have a millionfollowers.

(09:32):
Okay, well, maybe it gets to betoo much and you just stop
showing up for them.
Or maybe you just find yourselfin this unintentional,
self-centered mindset where it'snow all about you and you don't
really care as much and you'renot really engaging with people.
Maybe you just care more aboutthe status or the money that

(09:53):
you're making from it versus theimpact that your content can
make despite the growth.
From a monetary standpoint or afollower growth standpoint, if
you get to that point, you thenneed to ask yourself, is that
good stewardship?
Am I stewarding those peoplewell in the way that God would
want me to?
At the end of the day, God istrying to use you.

(10:16):
He is trying to work not just inyou and in your life, but
through you and out to otherpeople that need it.
That can change from the seedthat you planted.
So that means.
As entrepreneurs building anonline brand, it's important to
show up.
However, what's even moreimportant is the heart position

(10:38):
behind why you are showing upchange from, oh, well, I'm
showing up because I just wantto grow my social media.
I wanna level up my status.
I wanna become known.
Switch from that to, you know, what I wanna change.
More people's lives.
I wanna make an impact tohowever many people God wants to
trust me to make an impact toright now in the season of my

(11:01):
life.
He knows what you can handle.
And if you are at 10 followersand you want a hundred thousand
and you've been stuck and youdon't know Yes, sure.
Try to figure out how thealgorithm works.
Put out better content, get moreconsistent.
Yes.
Okay.
Understanding that is essentialas an entrepreneur.
What's even more essentialthough?

(11:22):
Is stewarding those people, those 10 people, so well taking
care of them, so well, showingup for them.
Now let me talk about what goodcontent should look like,
especially in today's socialmedia space.
As an entrepreneur who's tryingto build their online brand.
This could be a whole webinar, awhole workshop, an entire

(11:45):
course, and maybe we will havethat at another time.
But right now I wanna talk aboutthe approach and the mentality
that I recommend that you havewhen it comes to putting out
good content that ultimatelymakes good impact because of the
way you put out that content.
I always say marketing, evenwhen it comes to social media,

(12:07):
even when it comes to trying tokeep the algorithm in mind.
Marketing is all about thepsychology of your target
audience.
You need to understand theiremotions, their thoughts, their
interests, the actions theywould take, the actions they
would not take.
What compels them, what doesn't?

(12:28):
What pulls them in, what pushesthem away?
You.
As an entrepreneur can naturallybecome a better marketer,
especially on social media whenyou're trying to build your
online brand by simplyprioritizing, understanding the
psychology of the audience thatyou serve.
Once you understand thepsychology of your audience, you

(12:50):
understand why they show up onsocial media.
It's not just to binge andscroll through stuff.
Even if your audience doesn'tknow it, you know it because you
get the psychology, youunderstand their brain.
Why are they not just showing upon Instagram, but why do they
seem to like this type ofcontent over this type of

(13:12):
content?
You start to understand that, and when you understand why your
specific audience is showing upon Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn,
X, whatever it is, you.
Understand how to better meettheir need, how to better give
them what they want.
And when you do that, you canmake more of an impact because

(13:35):
your audience is more receptiveto the content that you would
put out.
Why?
Again, because you know thatthat type of content, what
you're talking about in thatInstagram reel, that ex post or
TikTok video, whatever it is,you know that that is what your
audience wants to see.
That is what they're gonna be.

(13:56):
Receptive to that is how theylearn best.
That is what they're mostinterested in knowing about in
relation to your industry.
So as you show up on socialmedia to make an impact and to
meet your audience's needs.
You wanna make sure that you aredoing one of the three ees.

(14:18):
And those three E's are educate, encourage, entertain, educate.
Encourage, entertain.
These are what I call the threeapproaches to take with your
social media content.
Whatever you are posting, itshould focus on one of the
three.
It should be educating youraudience.

(14:39):
It should be encouraging youraudience, or it should be
entertaining your audience, allrelating to what God is calling
you to make an impact under theindustry that your
entrepreneurial endeavors arein.
So that's a simple but a very.
Wise approach to take with yoursocial media content?

(15:00):
If you're wondering how, as anentrepreneur, can I make the
algorithm work more for me?
How can I create better content?
How can I grow my online brand?
When it comes from an algorithmperspective, understand the
psychology of your targetaudience and show up with your
content in a way that educates, encourages, or entertains them.

(15:20):
In that way, you're making moreof an impact because your
audience is more receptive inseeing that content, engaging
with that content because youtook the time to understand
their psychology while at thesame time meeting their need
through education,encouragement, or entertainment.
Yes, you can shine your light inthat way.

(15:40):
Yes, you can still plant a seedin that way.
Yes, you can make impact in thatway.
You can get so creative with itin how you're showing up in your
content, through educating,encouraging, or entertaining.
But it's not just about focusingon the algorithm.
Like this whole podcast episodeis about you want to focus on

(16:01):
God working through you andshowing up on social media and
trusting that he will give youwhat you can handle in this
season of your life.
And it's up to you to stewardthose things well.
So how do you do that?
Right, because let's be real,sometimes it's hard.
Sometimes we get insecure.

(16:21):
We struggle with our confidence.
Sometimes we feel confused.
And all of these emotions aswe're trying to pursue
entrepreneurship and grow thebusiness can lead us to falling
off of showing up online, notwanting to produce any content,
not wanting to put in the effortto build because we're so tired,
we're so overwhelmed, we'rebombarded with all of these

(16:43):
feelings.
So I wanna talk about threesimple things that can help you
lean more into the spirit of Godrather than the rules of the
algorithm and when you do.
Naturally, your confidence willbuild, your boldness will build,
and you can see the effects ofthat and how God can put his

(17:05):
hands on.
Yes.
Even your social media accountbased on the influence that he
might wanna give you in thisseason of your life.
First thing that I'll say inregards to that, you have got to
be obedient.
If God is calling you tosomething.
And it's going to take youputting in effort to show up in
that thing, then my friend, youneed to do it.

(17:28):
You need to turn your heart'sposition into obedience.
I truly believe that when you'reso dedicated to obeying God,
whatever is holding you back.
No longer has a hold on youbecause you're so focused on
obeying God that everything elsejust falls away.
The second thing that I'll saythat goes along with that is

(17:50):
that you need to be consistent.
Not only should you obey God bydoing what he's calling you to
do and showing up, but you wannabe consistent in that that is
not a one and done thing.
God wants to see yourconsistency.
He wants to see your ability tokeep going rest when needed.
Absolutely.

(18:10):
And if he's calling you to pivotor to change something up,
absolutely.
But you do want to beconsistent.
And the third thing that I'llsay to add to that is you need
to not care what people thinkabout you.
It's hard to let go of people'sperspective of you and the best

(18:30):
way to finally stop caring somuch about what people think
about you.
Is falling in love with Jesus somuch to the point where you want
to please him and nobody else.
And when you're focused onpleasing God, it brings you
peace and joy to do that to thepoint where you don't care what
other people think about you, even when it comes to the type

(18:53):
of content that you put up.
You don't care the comments thatthey might say, because at the
end of the day, you know thatGod has called you to this.
So those three things, beingobedient, being consistent, and
not caring what people thinkabout you, those three things
help you lean into God's spiritmore when it comes to your

(19:15):
social media content and tryingto build your online brand as an
entrepreneur.
It helps you lean into a spiritso much more to the point where
you find yourself making impacthappily, joyfully, whether it be
to 10 people or a million peoplewillingly making an impact.
And as you're persistent in it.

(19:37):
You just might naturally see Godbringing more people your way,
AKA, them following you becausethey want to see your content.
So many things are simply aboutchanging our perspective.
And I believe that when we leaninto the spirit with our social
media content, rather than beingweighed down by the rules of the
algorithm all the time, growthwill divinely happen.

(20:00):
I do believe that in your ownway, in your own capacity, in
what God entrust you to be ableto handle growth will happen
because of your heart'sposition.
You're no longer obsessed withthe algorithm trying to figure
out how to constantly make itwork for you so that you can
have this big following andbecome well known and have this
crazy status and look good.
Know you're focused on.

(20:21):
Being obedient and consistent inwhat God is calling you to do
and not caring about what peoplethink as you pursue it.
And yes, that includes yoursocial media content that
includes what you say, how yousay it, what you put up, how
consistent you are in showingup, whether it's to 10 people or
a million, whether you get onelike on that post or a thousand

(20:41):
this was exactly my story.
I always struggled with myconfidence on social media.
It might not look like it, butat first I had a full on facade
that made me look like I wasconfident, but really I wasn't,
and I was really struggling withjust clarity and confidence.
It wasn't until I got obedientin what I knew God was calling

(21:04):
me to do, I got consistent and Istopped caring about what other
people thought of me.
It wasn't until then that Ifinally got so persistent in my
content, having fun with it,being bold in it, being
authentic with it, and showingup.
Through those three E's, whetherit was educating, encouraging,

(21:26):
or entertaining.
It wasn't until that point thatmy business started to grow.
I mean that from a financialstandpoint and also from an
impact standpoint.
When you change your heart'sposition, even behind something
like social media, you would beamazed at what God can do with

(21:46):
that in that and through that.
And as you do, it becomes morenatural to show up.
It becomes more fun to show up.
You have more of a will and adrive to show up because it
doesn't feel like a job.
It doesn't feel like marketing.
It doesn't feel like you're justtrying to figure out the
algorithm.
No, it feels like you.
Obeying God and showing up andmaking an impact to the people

(22:09):
that follow you and or willfollow you in the future.
There is a determination behindthat.
There is passion in that, andwhen you're passionate about
something, it can become fun.
It can become something that youactually want to be consistent
in.
And from that, watching howGod's hands could be all over

(22:31):
that in growing your business onhis timing.
I hope you enjoyed today'sepisode, and my prayer is that
it just helps shift your heart'sposition as you pursue your
entrepreneurial journey and leanon social media to help you
build your online brandpresence.
