Speaker (00:00):
Wanna talk about selling as a Christian, a common

(00:02):
fear, a thought hesitation thatsome of us as Christians have,
or sometimes subconsciouslywe're thinking or wondering, am
I charging too much?
Is this even right when it comesto being a creative, an
entrepreneur?
Ambitious towards what God iscalling you to do in business.
Obviously a part of that istaking your beautiful God-given

(00:24):
creative ideas and putting itout there into the world.
Yes, sometimes not for profit,100% strictly for impact, but
other times it is for bothimpact and profit, and I found
that a lot of the people that Iwork with, or even just within
my own self or just in randomconversations, when you are
Christian and when you lead withGod in everything that you do.

(00:47):
Sometimes selling your ideas inthe online world or directly to
people.
Sometimes you find yourselfquestioning, is this godly?
Should I even do this?
Or, you're selling it and you'renot really charging as much as
you should for what it is thatyou are selling.
So I just wanna have an honestconversation to talk about that
on another episode of the GodEmpowered Entrepreneur Podcast,

(01:13):
in hopes that this episodebrightens your perspective.
Allows you to feel moreconfident to charge what your
offers are worth, while at thesame time keeping your selling
strategy, your sales approach,God centered.
So when I first built my lifeand business coaching programs,
I was charging around$500 for anentire three month coaching

(01:36):
experience with me, which maybeyou're listening to this and
you're new to the business worldand you're like, oh, 500.
That would be nice to have.
That sounds great.
But just to paint the picture,one-on-one coaching programs
range anywhere between 3000 to10,000 and up on average.
But at the time, not only was Iafraid to up my prices because I

(01:59):
was new in the space.
But I also didn't feel rightdoing it as a Christian.
I didn't feel right givingadvice, guiding people, helping
people, mentoring people, andcharging them for it.
Because I had this thought of,well, wouldn't Jesus do it for
free?
Wouldn't Jesus do it for impactand not the money?
So if that's what Jesus does, then shouldn't I do that same
thing?
And then there was just so muchguilt to the point where for a

(02:22):
while I wouldn't raise my pricesand I thought that I was leading
with a God-centered heart.
As an entrepreneur by doingthat.
Here's the thing, was I leadingwith a God-centered heart?
100%, but I was missing a wholenother part of it that could
have allowed me to still leadwith the God-centered heart.
Still lead with impact first andforemost.
But also still being able tofinancially sustain to profit

(02:46):
based off of what God wascalling me to do as a business
owner.
So let me first try toreposition your mind a bit on
the concept of making money as aChristian.
Making money by spreading thegospel or planting a seed or
shining a light based off whatGod is calling you to do with
that creative project, with thatbook, with your business, and

(03:09):
you being able to profit fromthat.
And of course, we always gottago back to the ultimate roadmap,
which is the Bible.
So I saw this post on TikTok,actually this Bible verse on
TikTok, and I was trying to findthe creator that initially gave
me this idea to talk about it intoday's podcast episode.
I cannot remember where I foundit from, but I want to be honest

(03:29):
in saying that I saw it onTikTok first.
I looked at that Bible verse, itsparked something in me.
And now I want to bring thatverse to you and spend the rest
of our time in this episodetalking about it.
Alright, so just tune in for mefor a second.
I'm gonna read and then we'regonna talk about it.
Part of what First Corinthiansnine, starting at verse 10 says,
yes, this was written for us.

(03:52):
Because whoever plows andthrushes should be able to do so
in the hope of sharing in theharvest, if we have sewn
spiritual seed among you.
Is it too much if we reap amaterial harvest from you?
And then in verse 14, it says, the Lord has commanded that
those who preach the gospelshould receive their living from

(04:13):
the gospel.
I would recommend that you readthat entire chapter because I am
still reading it.
I'm still absorbing it,understanding it more fully.
There's a lot in this chapterthat you're gonna be able to
relate to when it comes to not.
Charging what you might be worthin what God is calling you to
do.
At the same time, it gives us afresh perspective to break any.

(04:36):
Norm, anything that you've beentaught in regards to charging
for your offers for yourservices as a Christian?
And I wanna go back to that lastverse.
The Lord has commanded thatthose who preach the gospel
should receive their living fromthe gospel.
There are so many ways that wepreach the gospel based on what
God calls us to do in ourspecific industries and niches.

(04:57):
And yes, preaching the gospelcould be flat out actually
preaching the Bible, actuallypreaching the word of God
actually preaching the NewTestament.
But.
Preaching the gospel can alsomean planting a seed and
aligning it to the industry andniche that you're in so that
your audience receives that seedplanted.
Your audience can see that lightshining bright within you, and

(05:18):
sometimes that one little thingcan be all that God needs to
turn that person's heart moreclosely to him.
If you specifically have aChristian business where you are
pulling in biblical principlesand talking very boldly about
it.
Inside of your creativity, ormaybe you're doing it in more of
a subtle way, it is okay to makea living from that.

(05:40):
Here's where we need to becareful.
We cannot pursue what God iscalling us to do as
entrepreneurs with first andforemost the goal of making
money.
That is where it gets dangerousbecause if you're leading in
making money, then money issitting on the throne of your
heart where God should be.
But when you lead with impact, when you lead with the mission

(06:00):
that God is calling you to makein this world, then money will
follow.
He will bless that when you obeywhat he's calling you to do and
spread the gospel in the waythat he's calling you to spread
it through your business, through your book, whether it's
super bold or more subtle, depending on the audience that
God is calling you to serve, Godwill bless that.
You also want to think about thefact that you're not just.

(06:21):
Helping to transform peoplethrough your business, your
project, book, whatever it is,you are also offering a service.
You are also giving your time, you're giving your energy,
you're giving yourself towardssomeone else in a hands-on very
specific way.
So when you do that, you canmake what you're selling be in

(06:44):
more alignment with how Godwould want you to go about it,
so that even if you're chargingmore, or even if you're finally
charging for the first time, you're doing it in a way.
That isn't just fair for you andyour audience, but also creates
this really beautiful balancebetween leading with impact and
being able to profit from thatas well.

(07:07):
Is in God's calling for youright now based off of the
business that you want to buildor scale.
So how can we get a little bitmore comfortable with that?
How can we make our selling moreGod-centered?
The first thing that I would sayis you have to stop viewing it
as the sale.
You have to view it as thesolution.
You're not selling an offer.

(07:27):
You're selling a solution.
This is the biggest mindsetshift for me when it came to
launching programs and products.
And if I felt guilty about it, Ihad to first pause and ask
myself, one, am I leading withimpact?
Two, apart from these offersthat I'm selling, am I being
generous with any profit thatwould come from it?
And three, is this an ultimatesolution?

(07:49):
Hands-on.
That someone needs right now.
These things help position mymind to saying I'm not selling
an offer.
I'm selling a solution that Ifeel called to give someone
based off of what I know, basedoff of the experience that God
has brought me through, basedoff of the expertise that God
has allowed me to build overtime.
So that I can help someone else.

(08:09):
Another big part of that ismaking sure that you're
delivering on that solution, especially if it's a lot of
money for your services or foryour products.
Make sure that you're meetingthe expectations of whoever is
purchasing them.
God calls us to be goodstewards.
And we have to question if we'rebeing a good steward, if we're
not doing what we promise wewould do in the solution that

(08:29):
we're selling to the audience weserve.
Show up for them, steward themreally well.
Be present, be there.
Be different from the industrynorms.
For example, there's a lot ofcoaches in the online space that
will sell you on a course, andyou just have to take it.
And yeah, you get maybe a littlecommunity to help you with the
productivity of you finishingthe course, but when it comes to

(08:52):
the actual coach that youtrusted in yourself, the one who
created that product or thatservice, they're very hands off.
You don't really see them in thecommunity that often.
You don't really get to talkwith them one-on-one or ask them
questions because, well, youbought their course.
And now that their launch isover, they kind of take a step
back and let their team handlethe organization of whoever

(09:15):
purchased.
I'm not saying that this isnecessarily bad, and I'm not
trying to point fingers.
I'm just saying that if you knowyour audience wants you, they
want you to be more present, they want you to show up, they
want more of that access to you, then it is okay to give them
that, to steward them.
Well, in my programs, I likeworking with smaller groups of

(09:35):
people.
Because that means I can givethem more one-on-one attention.
It means that if they DM me, Iwill respond.
It means that if they submitcertain things and want
feedback, I will give thatfeedback.
Think about that in your sense.
What does it look like forwhatever it is that you're
selling, to not just be sellingan offer, but to be selling a
solution, and at the same time, delivering on that solution over

(09:56):
exceeding their expectations, being different, standing out,
being present for the peoplethat God.
Has called you to serve everysingle person that purchases
what you are selling.
That's a blessing.
Whether it's one person, whetherit's thousand people, and yes, I
do mean a blessing financially, but I more so mean a blessing in

(10:17):
the people that are trusting youenough to want to invest their
money and time in what you'vecreated.
What a blessing, what a giftthat you have this beautiful
opportunity to lead those peoplewell to take care of them.
Now, my second point in this.
Don't be afraid to meet peoplewhere they are at when it comes

(10:37):
to selling your stuff.
And let's say someone really.
Wants it, but they can't affordit.
Why deny them?
Because you charged what you'reworth.
And for anyone who can't affordthat, well bye.
Is that what God would call youto do?
Don't be afraid to financiallybe able to work out something
that works better for thatperson's financial situation.

(11:00):
You're more receptive to doingthat when you lead with impact,
not money.
So if you're ever curious.
Of if or when you're leadingwith money, think to yourself,
am I denying people because theycan't afford something and if
so, how can I change that?
One of the best ways to changethat, especially if this is more
of a one-on-one service, is tohave a conversation about
meeting them more where they'reat, what can they do, what

(11:21):
budget do they have?
Can you pitch a differentmonthly, more flexible option so
that they can.
Be a part of this program or bea part of your service, or be a
part of this cohort, whatever itis that you're selling.
I have done this countlesstimes.
I've had students pay in fullfor my programs and I've also
had students who flat out toldme, I can't afford this, but I
really wanna do it.

(11:42):
And instead of me saying, okay, well maybe next time, no.
Okay, well how about we do this?
Can this work for you?
A lot of us know what it's liketo financially struggle.
The Bible tells us to share ineach other's burdens.
Share in the burdens of youraudience.
Try to meet someone where theyare at, even if it means
lowering your prices for them abit.

(12:02):
And if you're like lowering myprices, well that's gonna mean I
profit less.
No, that's the world's way ofthinking.
But when you think God's way,you lowering your price just to
meet someone where they are atso that they can work with you,
shows that you have a generousheart.
It shows that you are leadingwith impact.
And if your heart's position istruly there, God sees that he

(12:23):
will bless that he will takecare of you.
Final point, I recommend having.
Both a high ticket offer and alow ticket offer.
In other words, because, like Imentioned, to try to get into
the perspective of not sellingan offer, but rather selling a
solution, have a high ticketsolution and a low ticket
solution.
When I say a high ticketsolution, I'm talking about a

(12:44):
product, an offer, a servicethat is a thousand dollars or
more.
It's more pricey, but it's morehands-on.
It's more features involved.
It's more of a higher valuesolution.
When I say a low ticketsolution, I generally mean a
hundred dollars or less thinkeBooks or a community or a

(13:06):
one-off coaching call for 30minutes versus a high ticket
solution like I mentionedpreviously, are things like
coaching programs or courses orcohorts.
Maybe it's a bundle of differentthings that you have or that you
built, or that you offer thatyou wanna sell as a pack.
When you have a variety likethat, you are allowing people
the chance to work with you, tolearn from you, to be guided by

(13:29):
you, no matter the financialsituation that they're in.
If they can afford your highticket solution, great.
They'll opt into that.
If they can't afford your highticket solution, well great.
You can either meet them wherethey are at.
By having a one-on-oneconversation and maybe offering
a partial scholarship or adiscount so that they can be in
your high ticket solution or.
You also have the option of alow ticket solution where they

(13:53):
can still learn from you, theycan still feel guided by you.
On top of that, you don't justwanna lead with your high and
low ticket solutions that you'reselling.
Business is about showing up forfree.
First, free content on socialmedia.
That's helpful, educational,encouraging free content that's
like that on YouTube, or apodcast free advice in

(14:13):
one-on-one conversations youshowing up for free in those
ways is you serving first.
It's you building trust first.
It's you helping first withoutexpecting a financial return on
that time that you're investingto create those free pieces of
content.
And when you get into the habitof doing that, then you can sell
your high and low ticketsolutions.

(14:35):
A business like that has amixture of free.
Cheaper and higher tiered.
Beautiful mixture of generosity, impact, and profit.
Let me just wrap up this shortepisode by sharing, it is okay
to charge more.
It is okay to charge what you'reworth.
However, be careful in ensuringthat what you're charging and as

(14:59):
you're selling that you arekeeping it God-centered.
You're leading with impact.
You're meeting people where theyare at.
You are showing up for themregardless.
You're not just in it for themoney.
You're in it because this iswhat God called you to do and he
wants you through your business, through that creative project.
He wants to use you as a vesselto shine his light through you

(15:20):
to others, to plant a seedthrough you to others, to
transform people through you, toothers.
Give God that space to do that,to take lead in doing that in
your business.
As you go about selling, I hopeyou enjoyed this episode, my
