Let’s be real...choosing God’s plan doesn’t always feel peaceful at first. It often feels like loss. Confusion. Resistance. Especially when your plan made more sense, looked more profitable, or came with a clear timeline.

In this episode, I’m sharing the real behind-the-scenes of what happens when you lay your own agenda down and follow God’s direction, especially in your business.

From the wrestling to the release, I’m walking you through what it’s like to surrender control, obey God when it doesn’t make sense, and still lead with vision and strategy.

Inside, we talk all about:

  • What to do when God’s instructions feel risky
  • How to discern His voice from yours
  • Why peace isn’t always present at first (but it will come)
  • The hard but rewarding things to expect when you go God's way instead of your own

This episode is a lifeline for the purpose-driven entrepreneur who’s tired of striving, but scared to fully surrender. If you’re in a season where you’re asking God, “Are You sure this is the way?”...then this is for you.

Angel Marie (00:00):
There has been so many moments in my life where I
was challenged to go God's way.
Versus my own way, where I waschallenged to do something, say
something, react somehow in away that was aligned with what
God wanted me to do, say orreact, versus how my natural

(00:22):
human self would've done, saidor reacted.
So many moments that havechallenged me, that have tested
me, and at the end of the day, they have ultimately made my
life so much more successfulthan I could have ever imagined.
Successful internally andfeeling sustainable peace.

(00:45):
Feeling content, but alsosuccessful externally and
watching the doors that Godwould open because I chose to go
his way.
Now all of this sounds good anddandy, but let's be real.
It is hard.
It is hard to choose to go God'sway versus your own.

(01:07):
Why?
Because your ideas, yourdesires, your way, your
approach, your direction isspeaking very loudly in your
mind.
You are living in this world, feeling all the emotions that
come with it.
Your thoughts are incrediblyloud.
Your circumstances are crashingdown on you, so you naturally

(01:31):
will think that your way isbest, your way in getting out of
it your way in navigating yourway through it, your way to
overcome you think.
Naturally that your way is bestand it's hard to instead
remember, to think and to actlike we believe that God's way
is better.

(01:52):
Why?
Well, sometimes God's voice maynot feel as loud as our
thoughts.
God's direction for us might goagainst our own desires.
God's path that he's calling usto might challenge us to be a
different kind of person than weare today.

(02:12):
So because of that, it's hardfor us to even fathom the idea
of going God's way when we mightnot hear it as clearly, when
we're uncertain, when there'sthings that are unknown.
So many questions and doubts andconsiderations that we have when
thinking about God's way versusour own.
Now this can apply to anythingin our lives.

(02:36):
There are so many differentaspects and concepts within our
lives that God is challenging usto go his way.
To act his way versus our veryown way.
But in this episode, I wannaspeak of this in terms of your
business, in terms of yourentrepreneurial dreams.
That is a huge reality shift.

(02:56):
From working in a nine to fiveor working at a job to deciding
that you are going to startsomething of your own, you're
going to build that thing, writethat thing, create that thing,
launch that thing, because youbelieve in putting your creative
gifts out there into the worldand setting it up for impact and
income.
However.

(03:17):
Entrepreneurship.
God's way is not just about you.
In fact, it's not about yoursuccess, your money you
achieving.
You having financial freedom, can it be a part of that?
Absolutely.
But ultimately,entrepreneurship, God's way is
you trusting God to move in andthrough you in order to reach

(03:41):
people through the business thatHe is calling you to build that
business, that idea, that book, that project, whatever it is, is
supposed to influence someone, amultitude of people.
Whether it be a few or many in away that God needs it to, and
he's using you to do it, he'sgifting you with the
entrepreneurial task to do it,to put it out there so that

(04:04):
other people can be greatlyaffected by it.
But.
Whatever you're building as anentrepreneur or you're wanting
to build as an entrepreneur, that thing is your baby.
You are putting so much work andeffort and tears and getting
task after task after task donethis nonstop level of trying,

(04:28):
going, figuring it out, and whenyou are putting in that much
time and energy into something, especially when you're
passionate about it.
That is your baby.
You know, the beginning and endsof that entire thing.
That entire strategy.
That entire system, you know, the depths of the hard work that

(04:48):
is going into this.
And when something is our baby,we tend to clinging really tight
to it.
We tend to get controlling.
We tend to get incrediblyprotective because we don't
wanna lose it.
We don't want it to fail.
We don't want it to.
Have a different result thanwhat we are working so hard for.
And because of that, asentrepreneurs, it is a habit to

(05:13):
choose to go our own way in whatwe think is best to protect our
baby, to control our baby, toensure that our baby does not
fail.
But my friend, I'm here to tellyou, when God gives you an idea,
when he gives you anentrepreneurial heart, a part of
him gifting you with thisability is allowing God to unc

(05:35):
unclench your tight fists aroundyour baby and to trust him with
it.
Allowing God to hold it,allowing God to steer it,
allowing God to have his handson it, even if it's different
than what you thought.
This is what I mean when I saychoosing to go God's way in

(05:58):
business versus your own.
Now, that's a very broad topic,right?
Because that could mean a lot ofthings.
It could be choosing to go God'sway in what exactly it is he
might be calling you to start,or how he's calling you to start
it, or the path to take to evenscale the thing.
The opportunities to say yes to,the opportunities to say no, to

(06:21):
what to let go of, what to stopdoing, where your focus needs to
be.
There are so many specificsunder the realm of choosing for
God.
To have his way in your businessand the gift that he put in you
to put out there into the world.
Understanding what that specificthing is that is between you and

(06:43):
him.
And I want you to lean into thisepisode as a way to gain
clarity, to understand what Godcould be challenging you to go
his way in rather than choosingyour own way.
Maybe you already know what thatis.
And if so, hold tight to that aswe finish out this episode.
But if you don't know what thatis, listen to this episode.

(07:04):
Have an open mind, and I praythat God will reveal what that
is to you as you continue tolisten.
Now, here's the thing.
God's way versus your own way inyour business, in your dreams,
in your ambitions, sometimes thelines get blurry.
Sometimes we question what wewant.

(07:24):
Could that be what God alsowants for us or could it not be?
And when I say the lines getblurry, sometimes it is in
alignment.
What you want is in alignmentwith what God wants for you.
But many times it's not manytimes.
Our way in God's way looksdifferent and you have the free

(07:47):
will to choose which routeyou're going to go so how can
you know for sure?
What is God's way in yourbusiness?
Especially if you're in a seasonof feeling confused, you're
looking for clarity.
You're just not sure where Godis calling you to go or how he's
calling you to do it.
The first thing that I wanna sayto help you with that is to ask
yourself, is this aligned withscripture?

(08:09):
Because if anything that you'redoing or thinking about in
regards to your business andwhether you should go your way
or God's way, or trying tofigure out which is which first
question you need to ask is.
Is this aligned with scripturebased off of Christlikeness,
based off of Jesus's principlesfor our lives?
Based off of God's guidance ofhow he wants us to live our

(08:34):
lives, manage our money, put ineffort, be generous, be kind.
Based off of scripture, is it inalignment with what the Bible
says?
Because if it is not, and if youhave to question it, then you
gotta bring that to God and youhave to ultimately use the Bible
as you guide your initial guidewhen it comes to, is this right?

(08:59):
And leaning on stories of faith.
There are so many stories in theBible where people were
challenged with their faith.
They were challenged to trustGod in something.
They were disheartened.
They didn't know what was next.
They were literally walking intothe unknown read stories pertain
it to your life as a way toreflect on if this is how God

(09:22):
spoke to that person in theBible, if this is what God
produced for that person in theBible, then what could he be
telling me right now in theseason of my life?
I will give you a really commonexample of what I mean by this.
I have a lot of people that cometo me and they say, I wanna
leave my nine to five.
I want to be a full-timeentrepreneur.
I hate my job.

(09:43):
I just want to get out of there.
Now your way might be quitting.
Two weeks notice, you can'tstand it.
You quit and then you go off onyour own to start your own
business.
But if we read the Bible, thereis this concept of stewardship
that God teaches us, stewardingour time, stewarding our current

(10:05):
season of life.
Also stewarding your wisdom, being wise, making a plan when
it comes to you quitting andstarting your own.
Business.
This is just a quick example ofwhat I mean by leaning on
biblical principles.
Now, this is where you're alsogonna have to lean into the next
thing that I'll say, which isconstant prayer.

(10:28):
Constant prayer.
Because in that example.
God teaches us, shows us thenecessity of being a good
steward of being in the waitingseason, of trusting him, of
being wise, right?
However, there are also momentswhere God calls people
biblically to take leaps offaith that honestly just don't
really make much sense.

(10:49):
Sometimes God will do that.
Sometimes God will want you toup and take action right then
and there as a quick act offaith.
However, that is a conversationbetween you and him and the best
way to gain clarity on if thatis what God wants for you, if
that is his way for you.
Whether it be leaving a job, apivot you wanna make in your
current business, something youwanna start doing in your

(11:10):
business, or stop doing in yourbusiness, whatever it is, lean
on biblical principles and leanon constant prayer.
I would also say the next thingto look out for, to decipher
between God's Way and Your Waywith God's way doors.
Just start to open.
Do you need to put in faith?
Yes.

(11:30):
Do you need to put in effort?
Absolutely.
But as you do doors justnaturally open and the rest of
the doors meaning the pathways, you should not go down close
when things naturally happen.
That is a clear sign thatwithout you even forcing it,
That.
God's hands are all over itbecause you didn't have to force

(11:53):
anything.
You didn't have to overly stressout about anything.
You put in effort.
You put in faith, you trust God.
Doors are opening.
That is how you know that that'sGod's way because he's taking
care of you and he's tellingyou, Hey, you're on the right
path now when you know you're onthe wrong path, or maybe you
need to look back to God inorder to pivot, in order to get

(12:15):
back on the right path.
This is where you're bumpinginto moments or feelings as if
you are forcing things tohappen.
You're controlling way too much.
You're trying to push, andthere's so much pressure in
order for that thing to gothrough or to happen, and
therefore it just feels forced.
When something feels forced andyou're trying to.
Pull with all your strength adoor open that is divinely

(12:38):
locked, you are going to getexhausted.
You are going to get burnt out.
You are going to feel drained, and you're going to start
feeling empty.
That is a clear sign that thatis not for you.
Something else is.
And you will find what that is,what that open door is for you

(12:59):
when you just pivot and turn toGod instead choosing to go his
way even when you don't see thefull picture yet.
Now here's what I want to talkabout next.
There are things.
That people don't really tellyou things that are unexpected
when it comes to God's wayversus your own, because it's
one thing to say, well, God'sway versus your own way is going

(13:21):
to be better.
Absolutely.
Because he's God and he knowsyou best and he wants you to
become who he needs you to be.
So he's gonna do what needs tobe done and put you on the path
that you need to be on in orderto get there.
Right?
We also know that choosing to goGod's way is ultimately tough.
It's a hard choice to make, but.
I want to get deeper by talkingabout things you might not know

(13:44):
to expect when choosing to goGod's way.
And I wanna talk about thosethings in order to prime your
mind, in order to create spacein your mind as you choose to go
God's way.
Because I want you to go God'sway.
God wants you to go his way.
You get to decide if you'reactually going to do it.
And I think what makes ushesitate is one, not knowing if

(14:07):
it's even God's way.
And that's why I talked aboutthe first pointers that I
mentioned but two, being afraidof what that means.
What does that look like?
If we go God's way and not ourown, if we let go of control, if
we allow God to put his hands onit in the way that he would want
to, what does that look like?

(14:27):
And that's a scary feelingbecause it's unknown and it
could be different than what youactually desire.
So I just want to talk aboutthose things to open up your
mind.
To set expectations.
'cause like I said, I've beenthrough this many times, and to
also give you encouragement thatdespite these things to expect,
that might feel hard in goingGod's way.

(14:50):
I promise you it is the bestway, and I'll talk more about
that towards the end.
First thing to be aware of.
When you choose to go God's wayand not your own, you are going
to feel like you are dying toyourself.
And when I say dying, I meanthat literally, emotionally,

(15:11):
mentally, physically, it's goingto feel like you are dying to
your own self.
The reason why is because.
Going God's way means goingagainst what you would normally
decide to do, so it feelscontradicting to your own self.
A part of you at first feelslike you're betraying your own

(15:31):
self at first, but as you goGod's way and you believe, and
you trust that his way is bestfor you, you start to realize.
That you didn't portrayyourself, you simply were loyal
to your spirit, the spirit that.
God gave you that exists withinyou.

(15:53):
You were loyal to that becauseyou know that because God
created you and he put a spiritin you.
You have the ability for yourGod-given spirit to surpass any
fleshly thoughts or desires.
So in the flesh, in your humanflesh, it's going to feel like
you are contradicting your ownself.
You're portraying your own self.

(16:15):
It's unlike you.
It doesn't feel normal.
The reason why is because you'redying to yourself so that you
can live more for God.
You're loyal to your God-givenspirit by choosing to live more
for God and going his way.
I have had moments where goingGod's way for me was so painful.

(16:36):
And this is in every regard, both in business and also just
in life.
In conversations, I waschallenged to go God's way to
hold my tongue in order to notbe so quick to anger as I
prepare for marriage, challengedin what God says about marriage
and a healthy husband and wife, which was painful for me, to be

(17:00):
honest with you.
It was painful for me at firstbecause I know nothing but
independence.
In business.
I remember when God asked me tostart up YouTube and a podcast,
and I felt like I didn't havetime.
I felt like I was so tired.
There was a part of me that atfirst was stressed and
frustrated with it.

(17:21):
It was painful because I wasdoing something that didn't feel
natural to me.
It wasn't natural to me at firstto show up consistently on
YouTube, and now it is because Ichose to go God's way and what
he was asking me to do.
These are all just randomexamples, and I want you to
think about examples in your ownpersonal life and business.

(17:43):
Whatever it is, there is goingto be a season, moments where
you are dying to yourself andit's not gonna feel good.
I'm gonna be real with you.
It's not gonna be a goodfeeling, but it's a necessary
one because you're choosing tolive for Christ.
Instead, you're choosing to goGod's way instead and as you do,

(18:04):
you become stronger as you do.
You find that your natural selfbecomes so much more aligned
with your spirit self, withGod's way for you that you just
change for the better, what youused to want.
The route you used to want to goon, the results you used to
desire, they change and theyshift.

(18:25):
Or your heart's position changesand shifts behind it.
That just naturally starts toalign with Gods.
But first, in order to get tothat, you're going to feel like
you are dying to yourself.
The next thing that I'll say inregards to what to be aware of
when choosing to go God's wayand not your own, it's not gonna
make sense to people.

(18:45):
A lot of times, God's way doesnot make sense to the everyday
human ear.
It doesn't make sense.
They don't understand it.
They don't get the logic behindit.
And the reason why it doesn'tmake sense is because it's not
supposed to god's way, oftentimes means a leap of
faith, whether it's small orwhether it's big.

(19:07):
By definition, faith meansbelieving in what you cannot
see.
The everyday human ear strugglesin believing in something they
cannot see with their own eyes, right?
So if someone can't seesomething with their own eyes,
their human brain logicallycannot make sense of it.
So if you are telling someoneabout God's way for your

(19:27):
business and you feel like Godis telling you to start this,
you feel like God is telling youto do this or to go that way,
and you know that spirituallythat he's calling you to, A lot
of times it's not going to makesense to people because you're
speaking the language of faith, and I've learned that the faith
journey, believing in what wecan't see in regards to your

(19:49):
specific.
Calling your specific businessIs something that is private
between you and God because itonly makes sense between you and
him because you two are the onlyones having these conversations.
It's you and God, you hearingfrom your spiritual ear what he
is telling you to do.
You knowing that leaning into itand feeling that it is a a and b

(20:09):
conversation.
So when C tries to come in.
AKA Other people that you'retrying to talk about this too,
it's hard for them to be in thata and b conversation because
it's a conversation of faith.
It's a divine conversation, sopeople aren't gonna understand
it.
They're not gonna make sense ofit.
Do not expect them to fullyunderstand it, and when you

(20:30):
expect people to not fullyunderstand it.
You aren't so quick to getoffended.
You aren't so quick to getinsecure in why people aren't
getting you.
Why people aren't believing inyou.
No.
Instead, your confidence in whatyou are hearing, your confidence
in God's way for your businessand the route he's calling you

(20:50):
to go on.
That's enough.
You don't need people'saffirmations.
You don't need people tovalidate that the path that
you're talking about is reallywhat God is saying.
Now, let me be clear.
Having godly people in yourcorner to help steer and guide
you when your direction maybegets a little misty, where you

(21:14):
start to not see things start toget blurred.
That's good.
It's good to seek wisdom fromgodly people that can help you
either get on the right path orsustain the current path that
you're on.
However, you wanna make surethat if you know that God is
calling you to start somethingor to stop something, you're
tuning into that and you'reobeying that because obeying God

(21:36):
is much more important thanobeying man every single time.
About three years ago, I left myfull-time job.
Now my story with this is I hada great full-time job.
I loved my team.
I loved the work that I did, andI will never forget the moment
where I had this supernaturalspiritual covering over me

(22:00):
randomly one day.
And it was so intense that I hadto go into the other room and
just sit there on the floorwithin that feeling.
And while I was there, I heardGod tell me in six months, I
need you to leave this job.
And.
Until that point, I need you toplan.
I need you to put a plan inaction to prepare you

(22:22):
financially and mentally toleave in six months.
It was such an overwhelmingfeeling.
There was a part of me that wasso excited because I've always
had an entrepreneurial heart andI felt joyful that this was my
time.
That God was affirming that inme, but I was terrified because

(22:42):
I loved my job.
I liked my team.
I had amazing benefits.
I was paid really well, and Iwas terrified to lose all of
that.
It got to the point where when Iwould tell people this plan.
I would say, I'm leaving my jobin six months.
I'm putting together this plan.
God is calling me to this.
When I would say that somepeople would celebrate me and

(23:05):
they would say, oh, that'sgreat.
I'm proud of you.
I know you can do it.
Other people would look at meand be like, why don't you have
an amazing job?
Don't you get paid six figures?
Don't you have incrediblebenefits?
Why in the world would you leavethat behind?
I got asked that a few times.
I was challenged with thatquestion because it didn't make

(23:27):
sense to them.
This was a a and b conversationbetween me and God and what he
was calling me to do, actionsthat he was asking me to take
that would lead me into theunknown.
That did not make sense to theeveryday human ear.
But if that's what God wascalling me to do, then it was
important for me to obey thatrather than feeding so much into

(23:49):
people's opinions.
And it was really hard.
I remember when I put in mynotice.
I remember when I told mymanager that I was leaving, I
bawled my eyes out.
I was sad it was really hard, but I knew that it was right.
And I think that's also a partof what can help you confirm if

(24:09):
it's God telling you or if it'sGod's way.
It is because there's asupernatural peace.
There's a supernatural feelingof, no, this is right, even
though I'm scared, even thoughthis doesn't make sense, even
though I'm so confused.
There's something about thisthat just feels right, and
there's this underlying piecethat comes with that.
The last thing that I'll say.

(24:30):
And what to be aware of when youchoose to go God's way versus
your own.
You will be mentally and orfinancially tested.
Big time.
Big time.
God is going to use theopportunity in you choosing to
go his way.
He's going to use that to growyou enough in order to see him

(24:53):
as your provider.
A lot of times we don't see Godas our provider.
Not our initial provider.
When we think of provider, wethink of people who provide,
people who provide money andfood, a place to live.
And we think about the initialhuman to human conversations or

(25:13):
things that take place in orderfor that providing to happen in
our lives.
For example, your job providesfor you by paying you every
other week your clients providefor you by investing in your
services.
Programs or your products.
Someone is selling their houseand you work with a realtor to
get that house that feels likethey are providing for you in

(25:36):
order to give you that house.,when you go to the grocery
store.
The grocery store provides foryou by already having a wide
variety of foods that you havethe freedom to choose from.
This is what I mean when I sayour initial thought on who
provides for us is more of thathuman to human conversation or
things that happen to beprovided for, but God will

(25:58):
challenge you to change yourmind, switch your perspective to
see that he is your first, yourforemost, and your only
provider.
So you will be testedfinancially.
When you look at other people orjobs or clients or students to
provide for you financially togive you money, God's gonna

(26:21):
challenge you.
And he's gonna say, Hey, are yougoing to look to me as your
provider?
If you have no clients rightnow, if you were to lose your
job right now and you are scaredabout where your money's gonna
come from next, are you going totrust me enough to be your
provider?
I will take care of you.
He will challenge you with that.
That's what going God's waylooks like.
He will also challenge youmentally to provide for you

(26:44):
mentally, to give you a way outof your mental roadblocks, a way
out of your insecurity, a wayout of your doubts, a way out of
your procrastination.
Will you trust that God canprovide solutions to that.
And again, when we think of ourinitial provider in the mental

(27:05):
sense, we think about therapy, that one-on-one human connection
where a therapist is providingmental health services.
For us, meditation, meditationis providing us with peace.
So that our brains can calmdown.
These things are good.
I'm not saying don't do thesethings.
My point is that God willchallenge you to change your

(27:27):
perspective, to view him as yourfirst and foremost provider.
Why?
Because when you learn to seeGod as your provider in all
things, that strengthens therelationship.
It prepares you for the nextlevel that God is calling you
to.
It grows your confidence to beable to handle what door God

(27:48):
wants to open for you in thefuture.
God knows your future.
He knows what's gonna happen.
He knows what's gonna takeplace, and in order for you to
be able to carry that futurewell, he needs to train you now.
And a big part of that trainingis trusting that he is your
provider.
You cannot seek your providingin man, in humans, in yourself,

(28:14):
in opportunity.
You need to seek your providingfrom God.
And it will challenge you.
I have had moments where I wasbroke in my business.
I was terrified of where in theworld my money was gonna come
from next.
So scared One time it got to thepoint where I was like, you know
what?
Maybe this is my time to go backinto the corporate world.

(28:37):
And I started applying to jobsagain, but I knew that that was
me choosing to go my own way andnot God's way.
Why?
Because I wasn't hearing backfrom jobs at all.
Doors were closed.
Now I waited.
I did this for a few months justto see what doors could open.
I tried and I tried and I triedthat.
The doors were locked.

(28:57):
The doors were locked.
But over those few months when Iwas so scared about money and
being broke, God provided for mehis way in my business, clients
came in, people were buying myprograms rams.
from my effort and faith.
God produced that outcome heprovided.

(29:18):
And that showed me that inentrepreneurship, those were the
doors that he was choosing toopen in the nine to five.
Those were the doors he waschoosing to close.
That is just my testimony.
Other people have differenttestimonies.
Sometimes God will close thedoors to entrepreneurship right
now in the season of your life, and he will open up the door to
a nine to five job.
Why you never know what God isdoing.

(29:39):
Maybe he wants to continueshaping your skill sets before
you're ready to be a full-timeentrepreneur or creative.
You never know what God istrying to do.
The whole point is trusting himwith it.
Let me wrap up by saying, goingGod's way is the best decision
you will ever make in your life.
Is it hard?
Absolutely.

(29:59):
Are you going to feel the painsof dying to yourself?
Absolutely.
Are you gonna feel like itdoesn't make sense?
Yes.
Are you going to be mentally andfinancially tested?
Yes.
But I promise you going throughthose challenges will make you
the best person that you couldever become because saying yes

(30:20):
to God means that you're sayingyes to all that he has in store
for you, all that he wants togift to you, all that he wants
to shape you into becoming allthe ways he wants to use your
amazing self to impact otherpeople.
And as God is doing all of that, there's also this divine joy in

(30:40):
life where depression andinsecurity and emptiness and
feeling lost are harder to comeby these days because you went
God's way.
It is the best feeling.
It is the best blessing, thebest surprises when you do
choose to go his way versus yourown.
