Let’s talk about something that doesn’t get brought up enough...What if the idol in your life isn’t money, status, or success...but YOU? In this episode, we go deep into the hidden idol that many ambitious people don’t realize they have: the belief that you are the solution. That it’s all on your shoulders. That if you just do more, fix more, or control more in your life and business...you’ll finally be okay.

But here's the truth: when you put yourself in the position only God is meant to hold, it leads to burnout, anxiety, and emotional exhaustion.

That's why in this episode, I’m breaking down:
✔️ what self-idolization actually looks like (it’s not always prideful or obvious)
✔️ how believing you are the answer can quietly take God's place
✔️ the three areas this shows up most: your relationship with money, people, and old habits
✔️ and how to release that pressure and let God lead again

This conversation is honest, freeing, and full of truth. Because God never asked you to be your own savior...He just asked for your surrender. If you’ve been feeling the pressure to figure it all out or carry everyone’s weight…this one’s for you.

(00:00):
let's talk about idols.

(00:01):
We know we're not supposed tohave them.
We shall not idolize anythingbut God himself.
We shall not serve any other Godbut God himself.
And that includes not justidolizing famous people or
idolizing other gods from otherreligions.
This also means idolizing thingsin your day-to-day life that you

(00:23):
might not even realize, likeidolizing money.
Or idolizing perfectionism, uh,idolizing other people that you
see who have this status thatyou desire.
Idolizing your phone.
Even idolizing your businessidea, your dreams.
That can also be an idol.

(00:44):
Anything that you are worshipingor that you are spending way too
much time on to the point whereit takes precedence over God
himself, that my friend is anidol that can pop up
intentionally or unintentionallyin our day-to-day lives.
But there is one other idol thatI think we miss something that

(01:04):
we don't realize we're idolizingbecause it feels so normal,
something that we don't see asbad because we live in this
world and it feels likesomething that we should do
because there's other peoplethat are doing it and we have to
care about what we got going on.
That hidden idol that I wannatalk about today is idolizing
yourself.

(01:26):
Now.
Listen, I am not talking aboutthe natural things that are
probably coming to your mindright now.
Things like you're selfish, soyou idolize yourself, or you are
greedy, which means you idolizeyourself, or you care so much
about your status in this world, which means there's a part of
you that idolizes yourself.
Yes, those two.

(01:46):
But I wanna focus on somethingthat's even more deeply hidden
that a lot of us don't realize, that my friend is idolizing
yourself by believing that youare the solution to your
problem.
now let me be very clear becauseI know what you might be
thinking.
A lot of the problems we face, yes, we have the control to fix.

(02:09):
We have the ability to be a partof resolving whatever that
problem is, and it's just amatter of us trusting God or us
getting out of the funk thatwe're in so that we can pursue
the solution to that problem.
That's not what I'm talkingabout here, so let me just
clarify and make it clear asday.

(02:29):
You can be a part of thesolution to fixing your
problems.
To fixing your issues to fixingyour mental health, to fixing
your perfectionism, to fixingyour business that seems to be
stuck, or your creativity whereyou don't know what's next.
You can be a part of thatsolution just by you simply

(02:50):
getting up and taking action.
That's not what I'm talkingabout though.
When I say you idolize yourself, when you start seeing yourself
as a solution, what I am talkingabout.
Is when you take God out of theequation of that solution, you
just see yourself in thatequation.

(03:10):
You just see the factors in yourlife or the things that you can
control as part of the equation, and you unintentionally
completely take God out of it.
And when God is out of it.
He is no longer in the solution, which means he's no longer in
the destination.
He's no longer in the process.

(03:31):
He's no longer in the progress.
He, my friend, is no longerapart of your life in the way
that you think he is becauseyou've chosen to set that
distance by deciding that he isnot in the equation of your
solution.
Just sit with that for a minute.
Okay?
Because you might be like, dang, that just hit me hard.

(03:52):
But you also might be like, Idon't know what this girl is
talking about.
Angel.
I believe that God is a part ofthe equation of my solution.
I believe that.
Okay.
Okay.
Hear me out.
If you struggle with controlissues, then you are
unintentionally taking God outof the equation of producing the
solution.
If you are a natural fixer.

(04:14):
You just want to fix everythingand you're so proactive fixing
things in your life around yourlife, in your business, in other
people.
You just want to fix things tothe point where you're maybe a
little too obsessed with fixingthings.
You, my friend, areunintentionally taking God out
of the equation.
In producing the solution.
If you don't like conflict, don't like hardship.

(04:37):
I mean, who does?
So I'm really speaking to all ofus.
If you don't like these thingsand you find yourself in an
unhealthy space.
Of allowing whatever thatconflict or hardship is to bring
you so low to the point wherethings feel dark, things feel
lonely, things feel depressed, and you're just kind of
accepting that as reality.

(04:58):
You're just kind of sitting inthere.
No faith, no trust, no action toget out of it.
Then you, my friend, haveunintentionally taken God out of
the equation in producing thesolution.
These are very real realitiesthat a lot of us find each other
in either right now in the pastor maybe a specific moment is

(05:20):
popping up for you right nowwhere you're like, dang.
Yeah, I took God outta theequation and I didn't mean to do
that.
I wanna say this to you myfriend.
You are not the solution.
God is the solution.
He has always been the ultimatesolution.
He is always there as theultimate solution, but you have

(05:41):
to decide to take yourself offof the pedestal of being the
solution to everything in yourlife, everything in your
business, everything around you,and allowing God to take lead
again.
Allow him to sit in the driver'sseat, allow him to become the
throne of your life.
That is the type of perceptionI'm talking about.

(06:02):
When you see God, you believeGod, you trust in God as your
ultimate solution, not yourself.
Now.
Let me also be clear on thatbecause that doesn't mean you
don't have a part to play in it,okay?
I am not talking about God is asolution, and you just sit back
and chill and do nothing.
Do I believe that there aremoments of silence, of

(06:22):
stillness, of you waiting onGod?
Yes, but that is between you andhim.
This is not an excuse for you tobe lazy, all right?
I'm gonna be straight up withyou.
I'm not telling you to see Godas a solution so that you can
just sit back and be lazy andnot do what God is calling you
to do.
Because you know what you wouldthen be doing at that point.
Idolizing, laziness,unintentionally.

(06:42):
Yep.
You would be doing that.
You still have a part to play.
I always say in these podcastepisodes and just in my content
in general, that.
Life is a partnership with God.
That includes your business, that includes your book, that
includes your creative project, that includes what God is
calling you to do.
It is a partnership with God.
He calls you to put in faith, hecalls you to put in effort.

(07:07):
And being able to do thatconsistently, God's part is the
outcome.
What is produced by that?
The fruits that come out ofthat, that is up to God's
discretion.
So you still have a part to playin it, but let God be the
solution.
As a whole.
The reason why I am talkingabout this this week is because

(07:28):
I was checked on this, okay?
This was a few weeks ago.
I was extremely exhausted.
I was starting to reach burnout, and anytime I start to reach
burnout, it is an extramotivation for me.
To fix it, to make sure that I'mnot reaching that because it's
something that I live bywholeheartedly.

(07:49):
I don't believe in burningyourself out.
I do not believe that that issustainable and that is
something that I talk about alot in my content.
But I was reaching burnout and Iwas reminded, okay, I gotta pull
back'cause this isn't it, i'mstarting to get overwhelmed.
I'm feeling extremely exhausted.
There's so much going on, and Istarted to reflect on all that
was going on in my business, inmy relationships, the world, in

(08:13):
my life, in my mind, and I feltthis overwhelming peace where
this phrase came to my mind thatsaid.
I am so tired because I'm tryingto be the solution to all the
things that are going on in mylife right now.
Why am I trying to be thesolution to everything?

(08:33):
I don't need to be the solutionto everything.
I don't need to be the solutionwhen it comes to fixing every
problem or everything that feelswrong or everything that feels
off.
I don't need to be in theforefront on a pedestal playing
the hero.
I don't need to do that.
I want you to ask yourself.

(08:53):
Have you been playing the herolately?
And I'm not talking about in away where you feel good about
it.
You feel steady with it.
You feel peaceful with it.
That's different.
I'm talking about the type ofhero where you're tired, you're
playing the hero, you're doingall the things you're trying to
fix, all the things.
You're trying to control, allthe things.
You are the hero, my friend.
It is not your.

(09:15):
Responsibility to be the herobecause when you are the hero,
you are looking at yourself asthe solution to things.
Let God be the solution to thosethings instead.
There are three areas that cameto mind for me as I was
preparing for this podcast, episode Three areas where I feel
like as general human beings.

(09:37):
We struggle in these specificthree areas in playing the hero
in trying to be the solution andunintentionally completely
taking God outta the equation.
So let's talk about that.
The first area money.
I had a feeling you knew thatwas coming because it was
probably in your mind while youwere listening to this episode.
If money is a problem for you,if money is a struggle, if money

(09:58):
is stressing you out, I want youto think about.
How much you are doing right nowthat is trying to control your
financial situation in a waywhere God is out of the
equation.
You're not necessarily thinkingabout God when it comes to your
finances.
You're not partnering with theHoly Spirit when it comes to
your finances, and I'm nottalking about just praying over

(10:19):
your finances.
That's great.
If you're sending a prayer up toJesus about your finances and
believing him for that, great.
But you know what?
I want to encourage you to fightharder.
Partner with the Holy Spirit.
What do I mean by that?
Start studying what the Biblehas to say about money.
What does it say about growingyour money, about stewarding

(10:41):
your money, about tithing andbeing generous with your money?
Managing your money?
What does it say about money sothat you can partner with the
Holy Spirit in that way?
In doing money God's way.
When you do that, you're puttingin faith and effort.
But not seeing yourself as asolution because God has that

(11:02):
position.
God is a solution.
You know that he is a solutionto your money problems.
He can provide financially morethan you could ever think or
imagine.
Your job, faith and effort.
Doing money God's way, partnering with the Holy Spirit,
God's way.
You need to fight for that.
Don't just send up a littleprayer.

(11:22):
That's great.
I'm talking about fight for it.
Be consistent in it.
Stop stressing yourself out, trying to be the solution to
your money problems, to yourmoney growth, to your money
management.
If it is causing you so muchstress and overwhelm.
I need you to ask yourself.
Have I unintentionally taken Godout of the equation when it
comes to finding the solution tomy money problems?

(11:45):
Because if you have, that'sokay.
I've been there before too.
But now that you're aware, youcan put God back in that
equation where he should betaking precedence because he's
the ultimate solution to whatyou're facing right now.
Second area relationships.
Your relationship with yourhusband, your relationship with

(12:06):
your boyfriend, your fiance, butalso not just romantically.
I'm talking about relationshipswith your family members, your
friends, your work, yourcolleagues, people in your
network.
Any relationship where you feellike.
You are trying to overly fix, overly control, overly maneuver
certain things so that you canmake it your way or make it look

(12:27):
okay so that you feel good andthis over here is good and oh my
goodness, this is a problem.
So it has to be fixed.
If that is you, when it comes toone or some of the relationships
in your life.
Then my friend, you gotta putGod back in that equation.
He is the solution.
Relationships have to do withpeople, right?

(12:48):
We need to understand ourposition when it comes to.
How we interact, how we show upfor how we communicate with
people.
What does God say about that?
I always think about the fruitsof the spirit in this regard.
We are meant, we are taught, weshould be learning to be loving,
to be patient, to be peaceful,to be generous, to be kind, to

(13:12):
have self-control.
To have goodness, to havefaithfulness, and to have
gentleness.
Nine fruits of the spirit.
When you think about how youshow up in relationships, these
fruits of the spirit should becoming out of you and shown in
those relationships, especiallybecause people can irk us, okay?

(13:33):
People can get on our nerves, people can make us angry.
A lot of times we have a hardtime understanding how someone
is the way that they are or whythey did that, or why they act
that way and you just don'tunderstand them and you gotta
fix it because it's a problem.
We get so caught up in thatrather than remembering that
that's not our job.
It's not our job to sit thereand condemn people, whether it's

(13:55):
your husband, your boyfriend, your fiance, family, friends,
coworker, whatever it is, it isnot your job to condemn them
based off of their actions.
Kindly nudge in the rightdirection.
Yes, condemning harsh judgment.
No.
Again, we have to understand ourposition.
Let God be the solution for thatperson.

(14:16):
Only God can fix somebody.
Only God can produce realeverlasting healing in someone's
life.
Only God can do that.
You have to let him.
You do your beautiful job.
Of showing up with the fruits ofthe spirit in that relationship,
being gentle, being kind, havingself-control, being peaceful,

(14:38):
all of those nine fruits of thespirit that I mentioned earlier.
You do a beautiful job at that.
Let God handle everything else.
I am gonna give you an example.
I have been practicing this somuch when it comes to arguments.
Arguments with my fiance, arguments with, uh, my family
member.
I've said this before onepisodes because I, I'm just

(15:00):
honest with y'all, I strugglewith emotional management
because I'm so sensitive.
A lot of the arguments that takeplace.
I respond to them with myemotions and a lot of times that
can come out, uh, in offense, inanger, things like that, and
something that I have just beenso at peace about.
Is to stop fighting in thisargument with my emotions and

(15:23):
start fighting in this argumentby showing up with the fruits of
the spirit, being kind, beinggentle, having self-control with
my tongue and what I say, beingat peace and reflecting that
light in conversations that arestarting to get into a heated
argument.
I started practicing thatbecause that is what God wants
us to do.
Because when I start acting outin emotions and when I start

(15:45):
finger pointing, and when Istart blaming and when I start
pointing out wrongdoings in anunhealthy manner, I am trying to
be the solution by trying to getthem to see their issues.
I'm the solution because I'mtelling you what you need to do
in order for this to be fixed.
So therefore I'm the solution.
No, God is.
God will work on that person.
God will fix that person.

(16:05):
God will heal like never beforeif you just let'em, if you stop
trying to control it.
I'm not saying don't voice yourthoughts or feelings.
Those are valid.
It's okay to voice those at thesame time.
You have to be careful becauseare you voicing them in a way
that takes precedence over Godhimself and what his word says?

(16:26):
Are you voicing them in a waywhere you are pointing out
what's wrong with that personrather than reflecting on
yourself and where you could dobetter?
The Bible literally tells usthat there are times when our
emotions can be extremelymisleading because they're
fleeting.
A lot of times they're in theheat of the moment.
This is where self-control comesinto play.

(16:46):
Learning to let God get controlback of that family member of
that coworker of your romanticrelationship.
Let God work through thatperson.
You focus on your position, andlet me also say this when I say
relationships, let's also talkabout the relationship to
yourself and going back to thefruits of the spirit.

(17:06):
Are you kind to yourself?
Are you gentle to yourself orare you harsh to your own self?
Are you really hard?
On you and what you're not doingand who you're not, and saying
all these negative things aboutyourself because when you're
doing that, you are not shiningthe fruits of the spirit within
you.
I think this is especiallydifficult for entrepreneurs and

(17:29):
creatives because we havedreams, we have ambitions, and
we just wanna chase after thesethings.
But we question.
We get frustrated when we can'tget past our procrastination.
When we are facing fear, when wedon't have clarity, we just get
so frustrated, and that cancause us to say all this
negative things about us, to thepoint where now we're stuck in
insecurity.

(17:50):
Now we're stuck in doubt.
Now we think so badly aboutourselves.
That confidence feels so faraway.
Let God be the solution byremembering what he says about
you developing the fruits of thespirit.
You are beautifully andwonderfully made.
He has plans to prosper you, notto harm you.
Plans to give you hope and afuture.

(18:10):
He has chosen every single hairon your head.
He knew you before you were evenin your mother's womb.
You are a conqueror.
You.
You are a princess and Prince ofGod, our king Christ, our king.
You have authority when youallow Christ to live in you and
work through you, which meansthat anything that sets itself

(18:31):
up against God, including yourthoughts, you have the power to
hold it captive and to make itobedient to Christ.
These are all things that are inthe Bible, which means that it's
truth, my friend.
We just have to believe it.
Have to believe it.
Last area that I'll talk aboutwhere we tend to take God outta
the equation when it comes tothe solution.

(18:51):
Old habits.
Oh, let's talk about this one.
It is really hard.
To break off old habitsextremely hard if you have
broken off old habits before, Iapplaud you for that because I
know that was not easy, butmaybe there's still some old
habits that you're trying tobreak off and you're just having

(19:12):
a really difficult time.
I, I am believing that one ofthe reasons why we just can't
seem to break off that old habitis because we have
unintentionally taken God out ofthe equation.
We're trying to control it.
We're trying to be the solutionfor that habit ending because it
does take our effort, right?
It takes a lot of mental effort,a lot of physical effort, a lot

(19:33):
of spiritual effort, emotionaleffort, whatever it is to break
off that old habit.
So because it takes our effort,we feel like we are the
solution.
To this problem being no more.
But what does it look like tocontinue that effort while no
longer seeing yourself as asolution, but allowing God to
work in and through you enough, strengthening you enough to the

(19:54):
point where he is a solutionthat that old habit finally
breaks off of you.
This is something that you haveto individually think about
because habits is a very broadterm.
Everyone has a different habitor habits that they are
struggling with letting go offor good.
I want you to think about whatthose habits might be for you,

(20:16):
and I want you to ask yourself.
How can I continue putting ineffort in breaking this off, but
making sure that God is back onthe pedestal in this problem,
that God is taking lead inhelping me break this off, that
God is the solution to thisbeing no more.
How can I specifically do thatwith this specific habit?

(20:39):
I want you to sit with that andthink about that.
What can you do more of or evenless of That simply involves God
more.
He is in the equation now morethan ever.
Reflect on that.
Oh, I know we talked about somedeep stuff today as you know on
these episodes, we like to talkabout the real stuff that we go

(21:01):
through as creatives, asentrepreneurs, as people who
feel called to somethingspecific.
You hear so much and you see somuch about.
How to go about things andstrategy and success, and that's
great.
We will talk about thatsometimes on these episodes.
But what I really want to talkabout in addition to that is the

(21:22):
real hardship, the mentalwarfare, the spiritual battles,
the emotional struggles, becausethey are real.
And if you don't know how tofight the right fight with God
by your side to get through it,then it's gonna be extremely
difficult to sustain the callingthat God is calling you to.
It's gonna be a constant.
Uphill battle.
When you're aware of thesethings and you take action in

(21:45):
resolving these things God'sway, then success, my friend.
Can be your reality.
And I'm not just talking aboutmoney.
I'm not just talking aboutfinancial success.
I'm talking about mentalsuccess.
This mental freedom, spiritualfreedom, emotional freedom.

(22:05):
You can get there.
You can get there.
Thanks for tuning into thisweek's episode.
I pray that it encourages youtoday and into the rest of this
week.
And hey, if there is someonethat you think needs to hear
this episode, feel free to shareit their way.
I would love for this to be anencouraging note for them, a

(22:27):
beautiful, uplifting reminderfor them this very week.
I'll see you next week, myfriend.
